Celebrities › Re: From Being A Top Nigerian Banker To A Painter In USA! JAPA Will Humble You!! by BigDawsNet: 9:37am On Dec 05, 2022 |
Moh247: Well the reason for his career switch might not be because of lack of job opportunities or his skill set in development..
Apart from UK , Canada with Sponsored work Visa due to shortage in IT sector and maybe Italy with Digital Normad Visa... US Japparians in the IT sector usually need time to fully integrate into the very competitive US IT sector and this is why most Japparians to US make do with other Jobs till they can fit in to the US IT Labour market
Apart from the lecturer in question, I have another friend who got his master's degree in US, hasn't get an IT job, but works as a bouncer You are very right... some of us here in the States settled for blue collar jobs for years before we could be able to fully switch into IT... tho it's not like IT positions are competitive here... but the reason is that a new arrival may hav to consider other means of survival for the time being.... no IT company will hire you without a proper Work visa... so you gaz to work on your residency first before even thinking of applying for jobs... Only the people that arrived on work permit resume work immediately... I was a students and it took a while before I got a proper placement because I require a sponsorship and its not that simple to issue out.... So I guess if this people work on dia adjustments of status first... den option for IT jobs will be surplus... I remember I used to apply for jobs before Ieft Nigeria... i used to get almost every mail wanting me to resume or come for physical interview ... but when they discover I need a sponsorship... everything just become slow..... So that's just the reasons |
Celebrities › Re: From Being A Top Nigerian Banker To A Painter In USA! JAPA Will Humble You!! by BigDawsNet: 8:34am On Dec 05, 2022 |
Moh247: Ok, that's true. To be able to code isn't the same as full software development
Apart from class tutorials, I am not sure I have seen him develop a project from scratch..
But however during my final year project requiring me to develop an examination portal he was fully supporting me in all stages and we basically developed it together using HTML, PhP and JavaScript Those once are basic programming projects... No top IT will hire you to build HTML php simple project... you need to be able to design a to level software to get a job with this companies... So as a lecturer it's pretty normal to know the basis... But the said lecturer can still go for more training if he hav the time... 6months or less can really change his career |
Celebrities › Re: From Being A Top Nigerian Banker To A Painter In USA! JAPA Will Humble You!! by BigDawsNet: 8:21am On Dec 05, 2022 |
Moh247: He is good at Java, and C++ ... I mean he can write codes on plan paper and if you type it into an editor and compile it he would run without error
I would have simply shown his Facebook page but that's violating his privacy
Anyways anyone who attended LeadCity University around 2008-2012 would know Mr Solomon of Computer science department how good he is in programming and how he has since relocated to US with his family Not saying you are capping bro But sometimes, you may be able to write and understand code but you don't even know how to build a proper software... Majority of my computer science lecture back in Undergraduate days can write and understand codes... but they hav never successfully built one major software for a company before.... all they do is to maintain the school database or build small small students record system for some secondary schools... So I guess his not a developer... maybe his just a tutor It's a different thing. |

He proudly post his work place on Facebook Are you sure he can write and understand programming?.. One of my IT mentor boss arrived here and started earning around 150k/yr with this same programming skills he developed from nigeria.. all he takes for him to do was go for another 6month course... now his a chairman... |

dipset01: Thanks Boss, I really appreciate everyone ones advice and also yours
I speak to my younger bro all the time and I know how things are, my brother isnt doing badly over, as a matter of fact he is also part of what is making me considering moving. He takes home 150k usd per annum which when I look at things is not bad. But I know it wasnt easy for him at first. Before he landed his current job which is in Engineering, he did alot of not so nice jobs (menial jobs), at some point I even used to counsel him to take professional courses and certifications. At a point as he no see work for engineering field he was considering going back to school to do medicine or IT, God Almighty gave him breakthrough. Now he is a citizen. But I know things were kinda of challenging when he first finished his masters.
One will continue to pray and seek God's direction. Absolutely bro... Settling can be challenging to be honest... we have couple of Nigeria trained Doc , Engineer, IT Expert that had to go through rough road just to get back on the right track in d new country... It's not gonna be straightforward things... as you may face Canada experience issue when looking for job... So just hope for the best and I know God will help you guys when you land |

dipset01: Guys is migrating to canada worth it? God is faithful I am currently 34years working in as an IT professional in a FCMG organization, currently earn 1.1m monthly this is excluding the perks, my wife who is currently 28 years also earns about 700k monthly. We both have siblings in Canada and both have UK masters degree. I know if my wife applies for PR and does well in IETLS we have a high chance of being invited. We have started the WES process and will soon sit for IELTS. I never use to believe in the whole Japa thing, infact I get irritated when I see people traveling out, until this year when dollar became over 800 to a Naira, also my colleague at work was recently kidnapped and killed recently. Coupled with the epileptic power supply and frustration naija gives you in so many way(traffic in lagos, passport processing fustration etc). The whole thing is kinda of tiring.
I know every land has its own challenges, like the cold, racism, Job hunting and the starting again whahala, but to be candor is it worth it.
My younger brother is telling me to come over that there are more chances in Canada.
What do you guys think, is Canada really worth it? Hm My little advice... Don’t get informstion only from agencies in Nigeria/Canada that want you to pay them for advice and help making your application to immigrate. Talk to others (Siblings) who have moved to Canada. Ask them about their experiences... Make sure you have a calm call with your siblings and let them be honest with you about the settling, and living in Canada... I based in the States and work in IT and I can tell you.. i will advice anyone with IT skills to move abroad.. but it comes with lot of merits and demerits.. You need to ask yourself why you need to move? More money or because others are moving... Have a discussion with this people and make your decision.. Remember you may hav to start allover when you arrive... Generally you both have really good income to hav a very lovely standard of living... think about ur options and pls pray about it before u start |
