Thanks Ragdollz. As an undergraduate in Nigeria, I even had girls (from wealthy families) who promised me some their father's wealth including at least a building and a car but I did not accept their offers. I obeyed my parents who insisted that I must marry a girl from my LGA.

I need to know how much it would cost to build a 20-bedroom guest house or hotel with all modern facilities excluding swimming pool. The location should be somewhere in the east preferably Owerri or Umuahia.
PoliticsRe: Yes, Jonathan Has Finally Contested And Won An Election by bigdoo: 4:39pm On Jan 14, 2011
It is wrong to say that GEJ has no political experience. He has been in politics for so long enough as to make him aware of the nature of politics in Nigeria. And besides you must reckon that he is quite educated. So he could catch up with developments much faster than the lots of IBB, Atiku, OBJ and Buhari to mention but a few. You can say that he does not have the experience of rigging elections like other past presidents of Nigeria. Or you can say that he does not have the experience of stealing our oil money like other past presidents dead and alive. The man has proved himself and is yet to even prove himself more in future when it is all said and done.

Business To BusinessRe: Need A Biz Idea:to Generate 300k A Month From A 5m Investment. by bigdoo: 7:22pm On Jan 12, 2011
I don't know if car hire will be different from other transport businesses I have tried in the past.  I had some luxurious buses and 26ton tipper in the past.  My greatest problem was that of getting trust-worthy, honest, reliable and responsible drivers, managers and conductors.  Another problem had to do with the bad condition of Nigerian roads, which led to frequent breakdowns.  I believe that tipper business is better if you can hire it out to a company.  However since the owner is not usually around the sites where the trucks work, there are possibilities of drivers to collude with your managers to defraud the owner of the business.

For example, I had an agreement with an indigene of the place where my tipper was working as I could not negotiate directly with the company.  Only the indigenes could influence the registration of any vehicle working on the site.  The indigene told me that the company was paying N37,000.00 per day and my truck will work for 6 days every week, from Monday to Saturday.  So we signed an agreement based on the details he gave me.  I then returned to London and left everything in the hands of my manager, driver and conductor.  I later learnt from a driver of another company's truck, working on the site that the tippers on the site worked 7 days every week and that the company was paying N45,000.00 for trucks of the same size and capacity with my own truck.  Luxurious bus business had even greater problems because of the problem with monitoring them where-ever they operate. In my own case my managers and drivers colluded and used my buses to carry contraband goods, which gave them N100,000.00 per trip while they only accounted about N80,000.00 to N90,000.00 per trip.  And I was left with all the repairs and maintenance costs.

I am very grateful for all your suggestions and advice. If I relocate to Nigeria, I intend to do that alone. I am not going with my children or my wife. I intend to go there and start a new life. As for my children, they have all been brain-washed by my wife and she has turned them against me. I have been making lots of investments in Nigeria because that is where I was born and brought up before coming to UK. I just need to do a couple of things to provide me with my daily bread in Nigeria and I will be done with UK. However I would still need to visit UK for business, medical treatment and to see my children.
PoliticsVote To Split Sudan Starts, When Will Nigeria Do The Same? by bigdoo(op): 4:37pm On Jan 10, 2011
Sudan starts voting to split the country into two between the north (mainly moslems) and south (mainly Christians). The set up is just like what we have in Nigeria. It is obvious that where-ever there are moslems and Christians, the moslems will never feel happy and comfortable. Hence there are always violence, killings, corruption etc. Nigeria needs to vote on splitting the country into two, the south for the Christians and the north for the moslems just as Gadaffi had said. I think that the big shots in Nigeria don't want that to happen because of the present oil wealth of the country, which they are looting with wreckless abandon. Splitting the country into two will benefit the common man but will not benefit the big shots mainly those from the north. This accounts for the reason why the north always want to be at the helm of political positions in the country and would want to rule the country indefinitely. They always cause trouble whenever they find someone from the south particularly the south-east or south-south, the Ibo speaking areas is in power. I think that we should vote to split the country into two to stop all the senseless killings, bombings and intimidation by the north. Moslems and Christians don't usually mix.

Nairaland GeneralBeware Of 419 Pastors In Nigeria by bigdoo(op): 2:02pm On Jan 06, 2011
I recall with uttermost dismay some very disappointing experiences I had with some men who parade themselves as church pastors in Nigeria. One of such encounters was with a pastor of Watchman church in my home town. The incident relates to a portion of land I bought from this pastor. It happened that this pastor’s piece of land is located next to my house and I felt that if I could buy the land from him, I could expand the size of the land in my compound. So I approached him and asked him if he was going to sell the land to me. At first he was hesitant and told me to give him some time to think about it.

Later on after some months I got a message through somebody that he had agreed to sell the piece of land to me. I also learnt that he said that I should pay the agreed amount of money to his cousin, who also is a pastor of Watchman church. So when I returned from UK on a Tuesday, I did not waste time to see his cousin at his shop and requested that I made the payment to him. But this cousin of his refused to collect the money but instead told me that he wanted to collect the payment at my house on a Saturday of that week. Then came the expected payday, which was a Saturday. The man came to my house late in the evening around 7.00pm. First he started to preach to me about his church and was trying to convince me to become a member of their church. Then I told him that I had no reason to leave my church for his own church. He told me that his uncle who was the owner of the land had a problem with his children following allegations that his uncle had killed their mother and quickly married his salesgirl and as a result of the incident had taken refuge at his new wife’s place.

He handed me the payment receipt already prepared and signed by his uncle, the owner of the land. So I paid him the agreed amount of money and we signed the payment receipt. He signed as a witness for his uncle while a nephew of mine signed as my witness. The next day on Sunday he came to my house around 10.00am and told me that armed robbers came to his house that night I paid him and took the money, which I had paid to him about 15 hours ago. His uncle who sold the land to me has sent me several messages alleging that my payment had not reached him. I later sent my lawyer to him and he still insisted that if I want peace to reign I must make further payment to him. I also sent his own sister to him who confirmed that he said I should make additional payment of N100, 000.00 (One hundred thousand naira). However since he was on exile, I have fenced the area and adjoined the land to my compound.

Another incident was with a pastor and owner of Pillars church in Lagos. This man was recommended to me by someone I know in London. I was told that he has all the connections for business and government appointments because he is well connected to past and present presidents and governors in Nigeria. He was introduced to me as Pastor Ade. I had several telephone discussions with him from London. He promised to get me a political appointment with the present government of GEJ. He said that ministerial appointment would be difficult but he could certainly be able to get me a job as SSA (senior special adviser). He then asked me to send him some money to travel to Abuja and make the necessary connections. He also asked for my CV, which I sent to him via email. I also sent him over N100, 000.00 about N102, 000.00. I am not very sure of the exact amount but I know that it cost me £450.00, which includes the money I sent him and the commission for the transfer of the money. After a week or so I called him and he said that he had returned from Abuja but was unsuccessful as every position had been taken up. However he insisted that he would be able to get me a suitable appointment with either Lagos state government or Ondo state government as he is very well connected to the governors of those states. He said that on the strength of my CV, which he described as very impressive, he would not have any difficulty in getting me an appointment as Senior Special Adviser. He also said that I should start with such lower appointments and then later I would aspire for higher appointments, which I accepted.

However he asked me to send him more money to facilitate his meeting the governors of Lagos state and Ondo state on my behalf. Then I told him that I would be returning to Nigeria in two weeks and would like to be part of meeting the governors and also to answer any questions I could be asked regarding my ability to hold such political position. I assured him that money would not be any problem provided I know that I was dealing with right people. He promised to take me to the governors as soon as I returned to Nigeria. When I returned to Nigeria, I called him immediately and told him that I was in Lagos and he promised to see me the following day. He asked for the address of the place I was staying in Lagos and I sent it to him via text message. I spent over three weeks in Lagos but he never showed up to see me as he promised. I called him at least twice every week and gave me excuses such as going for a crusade or night vigil or fasting etc. He gave me his address at MEIRAN ALAGBADO, LAGOS STATE but I did not want to pay him unsolicited visit because he did not invite me to his house and I had already come to a conclusion that the pastor could be up to more evil things so I decided to stay clear of him but instead wanted him to prove himself as a man of God by keeping to his promise, but he never did.

This very pastor had already told me how he had been instrumental to rigging most elections in the past and working for past presidents and governors as a tout and getting them into office. I was also informed that this pastor was formerly a motor park tout before his so called connection with politics. He boasts of having at least five houses in Lagos alone, each worth more than N250 million, which makes him a billionaire. He also boasts of having 5 different 4x4 Jeeps all with private numbers. He also told me of landing a contract worth N400 million with one state government. So my fellow Nairalanders, better look well and think twice before dealing with people who call themselves pastors in Nigeria. Most of them are simply wolves in lamb’s apparel only waiting for the next victim to devour.
Nairaland GeneralI Regret Bringing My Wife To Uk by bigdoo(op): 1:53pm On Jan 06, 2011
You are not alone in your plight. I lived for four and half years with my wife in Nigeria before coming to UK. We came for no other reason than for the fact that we could not have children back in Nigeria. It happened that just after five months of our marriage, I took her to UK for a holiday and she became pregnant. However as soon as we arrived back to Nigeria she lost the pregnancy. After waiting for four years and doing all the necessary tests, which confirmed that there was no serious problem with any of us, still my wife could not conceive. So I decided that God must have shown me the sign that I should have my children in UK and not Nigeria. When I had my leave, which was for 6 weeks, I decided to take my wife to UK again for holidays and also to see if she could get pregnant again as before. And to our greatest surprise it happened again just after three weeks of our stay in UK without having to see a doctor for any treatment. So I decided that UK is my promised land and we should remain there.

During our stay in Nigeria before living for UK, I earned more than ten times my wife. My wife’s salary could not pay for the flat we lived in let alone running other family expenses. She did not have a good job but I had a great job that catered for both of us. In fact I could work for an entire year without having to withdraw any money from my salary as I got more than twice my salary coming in every month by way of allowances for out of station assignments. I drove a good car and lived in a comfortable flat. I provided everything my wife wanted and even did not buy much for myself. I looked after my wife as if she was a queen. I was the person who fought for my entire family to become citizens in UK; she did not contribute anything towards that. I went through every immigration hurdle until we all got our residency and then citizenship. But all of that is music to my wife’s ears now. This is a woman who came to me with rags and I transformed her within the first one year of our marriage. I bought all her wears and shoes from UK and really did not bother much about myself. She has been the cause of every quarrel and misunderstanding we have ever had since our marriage. Even when I asked her often to tell me one occasion that I had offended her, she had not been able to mention one singe occasion when I ever started any trouble.

The real problem started after my wife completed her training as a nurse and started earning some big money mainly from overtime work and working during unsociable hours. We had always kept our money together and ran our accounts as joint accounts. My wife decided to run her own personal account where all her salary is paid into. She then decides how much out of her salary she pays into our joint account. She stopped listening to whatever I say but instead listened to her colleagues at work and friends. When I confronted her about her change in attitude, she told me that “the character a woman shows when she was coming into a marriage is not what she shows afterwards”. She has turned all our children against me and dictates to the children whatever she likes even when I am opposed to her directives. However our children are grown up with some of them already in universities.

On one occasion I went to Nigeria and reported her bad behaviours to her mother and before I returned back to UK she went and reported me to the police. I asked her why she reported me to police and she said that she consulted her brothers in Nigeria and they advised her to report me to police before I returned to UK fearing there could be violence when I returned to UK. I went to the police in UK with my wife and asked the police to show me the statement my wife made against me. But the police said that for confidentiality purposes, they were not allowed to tell me about my wife’s report against me. So I decided to make my own report there against her there and then. Nowadays we hardly talk to each other and I am making every effort to re-establish myself in Nigeria and only visit UK when necessary. Our women do not know how to repay us for our kindness and goodness towards them. Instead they see us as ladder to climb to greater heights.

BusinessRe: Who Is Who In Nigeria: The Full List Of The Top 50 Richest Nigerian Billionaires by bigdoo: 6:38pm On Jan 04, 2011
It appears that the surest way to become a billionaire in Nigeria is through politics as the list featured most of our former presidents and politicians. What a shame for Nigeria. Compare that to what obtains in United Kingdom and USA. Most of their past presidents and prime ministers are just ordinary men. No wonder we are killing each other because of political power.

CareerRe: edit by bigdoo: 11:38am On Jan 04, 2011
As a certified systems engineer (MCSE) and CCNA, I will tell you that computing is very interesting.  I never knew anything about computing during my undergraduate studies in Nigeria.  But I felt and knew the importance of learning computing when I did my postgraduate studies in UK.  I had to rely on other people to type my assignments and even mt thesis.  I felt very much intimidated by the computer.  I therefore felt that it was a big challenge for me to learn IT.  First I started with some basics such as word processing, excel and access and went on to do PC maintenance and support.  Then I did a bit of Visual Basic programming.  I was more than amazed at the rate I enjoyed all these courses and how fast I passed all the exams.  Having got the necessary background and confidence, I then decided to go professional and take on the more difficult exams.  I had to make a choice between doing programming or networking.  After due consideration, I decided to take on networking as I felt that programming would require my looking at the monitor for several hours every day.  Then I considered that my sight is not very good and sitting on the computer and looking at the monitor several hour every day could worsen my sight problem.  So I decided to go for networking.  I combined my training for MCSE with my lecturership job in London.  I was able to complete the course and all my exams within six months.  I then went on to do Cisco (CCNA) and later qualified as Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT). I also passed ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence).

On the other hand I cannot stand the sight of blood and generally dislike working in a hospital environment.  Hence studying medice is completely out of the way for me.  All I can say is that no profession is harder than the other.  It all depends on a person's choice and inclination.

PoliticsNigerian Women Living In London Don’t Care About Nigeria by bigdoo(op): 12:34pm On Jun 06, 2010
I have observed with uttermost dismay that most Nigerian women living in London (UK) do not care or give a damn about Nigeria. They have become so westernised and comfortable with the western system that gives them undue privileges over their husbands and the last thing they would want to hear is any good news about Nigeria.

Very recently I met a Nigerian woman in London and started talking about the demise of our late president Yaradua. To my consternation, this woman had no idea about what I was saying. She was unaware of the death of the president. What is worse is that this woman did not even know that Nigeria has a new president known as Goodluck Jonathan. I was very furious when she made her ignorance even more obvious as she asked me the most stupid question. She asked “So it’s Yaradua’s wife who is the new president?” I asked her the question “Who is Yaradua’s wife?” and she answered me “I don’t even know”.

Yet in another recent discussion with another Nigerian woman in London, I talked about Goodluck Jonathan as the president of Nigeria. This woman appeared even more ignorant than the first woman I spoke about earlier. She asked me the question “Is Obasanjo not the president of Nigeria still?” In fact I have many instances about the uncaring and nonchalant attitude of Nigerian women living in London and probably living elsewhere in the Diaspora.

Contrary to these women’s hatred about any good development in Nigeria is their great interest in disseminating every evil development in Nigeria amongst their network across the world via text messages and email. Most of these women have formed themselves into a network and share amongst themselves every bad development in Nigeria such as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, power blackout, road accidents, corruption etc. These women are more interested in such negative news about Nigeria and have closed their ears to any good development in Nigeria because these women dread returning to settle in Nigeria due to the maltreatment, abuse and disrespect they have shown to their husbands who in most cases brought them overseas.

The most worrying issue with this trend and development is the fact that most of these Nigerian women in Diaspora tend to portray Nigeria as an uninhabitable place to their children. They only tell their children about all the bad things that happen in Nigeria such as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, power blackout, road accidents and thereby making these children to develop very poor impression about Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: List Of Nigerians That Can Turn Things Around For The Better by bigdoo: 11:45am On Jun 06, 2010
Let's not waste any more time looking for a Nigerian that can turn things around. Nigeria has already been blessed with such a person. His name is Goodluck Jonathan. For once Nigerians have started having a feeling of hope for a better life. and better Nigeria. We have never experienced such feelings in Nigeria with all the past regimes. If Jonathan Goodluck can actualise this feeling into reality within the very short time he has to perform, then he is undeniably the God-sent redeemer of Nigeria and should be given the chance to lead us till 2019.
PoliticsRe: Ohakim(ochikanwata) Ruling Like A Kid) Is The Most Dubious Governor In Nigeria by bigdoo: 12:05am On Jun 06, 2010
Ohakim has no personality, no class and lacks a good command of English language and public speech. I am really ashamed of him. That's what you get with a rigged or flawed election. He should be nobody in Imo state. He is not even a right material for a councillor. He is a real disgrace to the people of Imo state and should never be elected for a second term. He has no vision and plans for Imo state and his regime has set Imo state backwards by several years.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Looted More Than Abacha! by bigdoo: 11:55pm On Jun 05, 2010
OBJ, IBB and Abacha all looted the government treasury and they must be probed. The same applies to all past political office holders in Nigeria. If we can recover all the money that past politicians looted, Nigeria would be the richest country in the world.
PoliticsRe: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by bigdoo: 3:20pm On Jun 04, 2010
This is a welcome development. It is necessary but not sufficient, however it is a good starting point. I feel that with the amount of money generated from the oil and gas sectors alone, Nigeria can afford to pay unemployment benefit of N50,000.00 per month for our unemployed graduates and the minimum wage in Nigeria should be N100,000.00 per month for workers on grade level 01. That is my vision of Nigeria under an able, honest, transparent and almost corruption-free system with politicians salaries and allowances reduced by 90%. The money should be redistributed to every Nigerian and not shared by a few people who are privileged to be in government positions or people who are connected to people in authority. Also over-inflation of contracts should be checked and punished by life imprisonment. We need to wake up as a nation and compare ourselves and our standard of living with what obtains in other oil rich countries. We are simply nowhere near for any meaningful comparison.

I don't know why Ojukwu was not considered for the job of INEC chairman.
