N5000 cannot empower anybody. To many poor families, N5000 cannot provide a pot of soup that will last up to 5 days. I see the program as a direct bribery of the electorate. Provision of necessary facilities such as constant electricity, water supply, good roads, schools and hospitals that are well equipped with necessary machines and medicines will have a far reaching and long lasting effect on the common man and indeed everybody. Individuals should be empowered to create their own wealth by making use of the enabling environment provided by government. It's better to teach people how to fish than to give them a little piece of fish once in a while. For me, this is money that goes down the drain. And the program is designed to make the people poorer and more dependable on government handouts. If government can first use the money it is currently wasting on this program to provide the enabling environment as I have elaborated above, then N5000 given to the poorest people in the society to support their setting up of small scale businesses would ensure that these people could have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families and even have some hope of some sort of success, progress and independence. |
Old boy, this one tire me oooo!!!! |
In Ubang, a farming community in southern Nigeria, men and women say they speak different languages. They view this unique difference as "a blessing from God", but as more young people leave for greener pastures and the English language becomes more popular, there are concerns it won't survive, reports the BBC's Yemisi Adegoke. Dressed in a brightly coloured traditional outfit, a red chief's cap and holding a staff, Chief Oliver Ibang calls over his two young children, eager to demonstrate the different languages. He holds up a yam and asks his daughter what it is called. "It's 'irui'," she says, without hesitating. But in Ubang's "male language" the word for yam, one of Nigeria's staple foods, is "itong". And there are many other examples, such as the word for clothing, which is "nki" for men and "ariga" for women. It is not clear exactly what proportion of words are different in the two languages and there is no pattern, such as whether the words are commonly used, related or linked to traditional roles for men or women. "It's almost like two different lexicons," says anthropologist Chi Chi Undie, who has studied the community. "There are a lot of words that men and women share in common, then there are others which are totally different depending on your sex. They don't sound alike, they don't have the same letters, they are completely different words." 'Sign of maturity' She says the differences are far greater than, for example, British and American versions of English. However, both men and women are able to understand each other perfectly - or as well as anywhere else in the world. This might be partly because boys grow up speaking the female language, as they spend most of their childhoods with their mothers and other women, as Chief Ibang explains. By the age of 10, boys are expected to speak the "male language", he says. "There is a stage the male will reach and he discovers he is not using his rightful language. Nobody will tell him he should change to the male language." "When he starts speaking the men language, you know the maturity is coming into him." If a child does not switch to the correct language by a certain age, they are considered "abnormal", he says. Ubang people are immensely proud of their language difference and see it as a sign of their uniqueness. But there are different theories about how it happened. Most of the community offer a Biblical explanation. Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-africa-45262081 |
I really like this woman a lot. |
Canada isn't such a buoyant country and is not worth dying for. What a shame. |
Anything at all to get Buhari out of Aso Rock is welcome. He has wasted 3 years of his regime blaming people for his failure, while unleashing the worst bloodshed ever seen in all Nigeria's democratic governments. |
Many workers are being owed salaries ranging up to several months, retirees are not paid, some are paid as little as N1000 per month and they have to travel several kilometers to get their N1000. Please make una go borrow some sense. This government is a joke. |
Almost 1 million pounds to buy a car? That's stupidity and madness combined. Buying a car is not a very clever investment, so it's good to apply some wisdom, no matter how rich one might be. There are many other things that could give you more value for money and there are a lot of people around you that are in need of help. |
Really, he needs prayers and deliverance. |
Is Sowore actually campaigning to be president in 2019? I thought the position is zoned to the north. Or does he just want to make some noise and waste his money? |
Obiano is a lot different from Okorohausa. |
Eshiettk:Maybe I can help when I complete my hotel. That's if you have the desired skills and experience. |
This could be the first ever castle hotel in the city, built and walled entirely with stones. Pretty coool !!!!!! |
Did you notice that the car has 17 inch alloy rims? Pretty cooool !!!! |
Did you notice that the car still has its original seats and upholstery without any blemish? Pretty cooooool !!!!! |
Did you notice that the car has a car refrigerator and is fully air conditioned? Pretty cooooool!!!!!! |
Atiku might be promising restructuring and resource control, but when he is voted in as president, he might come up with his northern agenda and implement restructuring and resource control in such a way as to favour the north. Remember that restructuring means different thing to different people/tribe. Every northerner has a northern agenda. |
Boko Haram is just a scam created to siphon Nigeria's money. |
JesusSonOfGod:And I wonder about this common utterance made by many Christians all over against other people ''HOLY GHOST FIRE''. Is it Godly or Christlike? |
Poor Drowning Party |
You can't compare her with our presidents, dem no get problem. No Boko Haram, no Fulani herdsmen, no MEND, no IPOB, no SARS wahala, no opposition party wahala, no thief thief of government money, in short the list too plenty. That is why she can afford to have plenty time to paint house. Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, MEND, IPOB, SARS wahala, opposition party wahala, thief thief of government money. All of them were created by our Nigerian leaders, not the common man. |
Buhari promised N1 = $1 just to grab power. |
I don't really mind if they go about kidnapping all our polithiefchians. |
Beware, this could be a terrorist or fundamentalist airline. I will continue my favourite foreign airlines until further notice. |
Boko Haram, nothing do you. Carry go. |
meobizy:You are right. |
uboma: |
ciouxox:You have to look at the finished product. I have never seen anyone showing his/her building plan to the public. What is shown is the building itself. |
uboma:I don't intend to upload my building plan/design for any reason. However, there are a total of 40 rooms out of which 30 are for lodging. And all the 40 rooms need to be furnished fully. This is apart from the two rooms in front of the hotel, used as the security house and generator(s) house. There are 3 rooms at the back of the main building, which will be used by some of the workers. |
DOUBLEWAHALA:It's unfortunate that Nigerians have not started to appreciate classic cars. Overseas, such cars cost far more than the big, brand new ones. Personally, I prefer being different and standing out of the crowd. Make no mistake about it, a lot of money is needed to keep such a car in the fantastic shape it has and I am quite happy to spend money that way. On the contrary, this car could prolong my life. This is because even owners of G - Wagon pack their cars and salute me. People gather to have a look at the car and that makes me to feel exceedingly proud. It's better seen with the eyes than just in pictures. Awesome!!!!!! |
Baawaa:My house is a castle and the walls are built with stones; that's the way I like it. My hotel walls are also built with stones. With that, I don't have to bother about painting and repainting my house. Besides, they look exotic, exquisite and quite different.
