Na wa o. In a country where medical officers have not even come to grasp with what exactly EVD is all about. These are people that are still rejecting patients from entering their hospitals because they have headache because of fear of EVD LoL. What then are we going to say about teachers who have little or no knowledge of how to contain this disease? When we talk about schools, let us cast our mind on those schools that have up to 3 or more schools in one compound. Have we thought about the population in such schools? Moreover, when the younger children start hugging, playing, sharing food or drinks, sticking their fingers everywhere and any where to return same fingers in their mouths, would there be a teacher assigned to each child to monitor what they are doing? Or maybe each parent should leave whatever they are doing to manage their wards during school hours. And yes, if you as an adult attend rallies, parties or such with or without your kids, you do same at your own peril. If par adventure you contract the disease in such places, you knew exactly what you are doing. So why would a parent who has been suffering to keep his child safe, put that same child in harms way by allowing such child to mingle with a child whose parents were irresponsible enough to contract ebola knowingly. As for those in tertiary institutions, if a student cannot keep clean or keep to simple instructions about how to avoid ebola, then they have no business being in such schools in the first place. And the day politicians start speaking the truth, then I will stop taking all they say with a pinch of salt. |
SiriusBlack, so heart warming to know that you are safe. You are all in our prayers. |
I hope Chukwu and his masters know exactly what they are doing. This is a country where people are still dying from ebola in PH, they are still confirming more cases and someone who is supposed to be quarantined, is still at large. I pity most of the public schools. These people should not politicise this problem. |
So e get people weh be boy boy for Nigeria, who are meant to 'change' things in the country? So when everything come better, people will waka from wherever they thought el dorado existed before, to come claim space for Naija. I laff in chinko. That una waiting tinz go tey well well. ![]() |
Another scam is to embellish whatever nonsense they have to say with the name of God. For many Nigerians, they will believe anything you say, so long as you attach God or Allah to whatever you want to tell them.SMH ![]() I saw this picture on NL sometime ago. What of the Governors that share rams with state funds(apparently) for ramadan. God is watching you all in 7D A sort of war of attrition unfolded at the weekend among politicians and public office holders in Zamfara state over the modalities for the sharing of Sallah rams and grains procured by the State government ahead of the Sallah festivities. Reports reaching the Nigerian Tribune indicated that Governor Abdulaziz Yari had approved the procurement of a number of rams and grains ahead of the Eid-il-fitri celebrations. It was gathered that the items were meant to be distributed among stakeholders in all the local government and wards in the state. Sources close to the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, however, indicated that the sharing formula of the items further widened the growing gulf among politicians in the state. It was gathered that the crisis over distribution of Sallah rams unfolded, when the Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area confronted Commissioners and Special Advisers over the distribution of rams in his local government.http://www.tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/11941-sallah-rams-grains-cause-ripples-in-zamfara/11941-sallah-rams-grains-cause-ripples-in-zamfara

Edo State Government has reversed the planned competency test for teachers in the state and recalled the 936 teachers whose names were deleted from the payroll over certificate discrepancies and age falsification. Government also announced the immediate extension of the relativity to teachers in the state public schools. Making the announcements Thursday, Governor Adams Oshiomhole during a meeting with the Nigeria Union of Teachers [NUT] and the Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC] said “On assumption of office, it was very clear to me and my colleagues that our future is defined by the level of investment in education and the quality of the basic education we provide for our children and that is why we have devoted resources to the rebuilding of our Primary Schools, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools. Just saw the American Doctor who survived the ebola making a press conference on Sky news. The two of them flown in from Liberia were treated with the experimental drug. They have now been discharged and are well. In all of this he was just appealing that the people of Liberia and west Africa who are suffering from this disease be remembered too. The days of the ebola scourge is numbered. Soon that drug or an alternative will flood west Africa. Let us be vigilant though. With God, we shall overcome. |
EXCLUSIVE: Patrick Sawyer deceived us, ECOWAS to travel to Nigeria — Liberian Minister Nicholas Ibekwe - 6 days ago Featured News, News Patrick Sawyer, the late Liberian-American, who brought the deadly Ebola virus to Nigeria, deceived and manipulated the Liberian government and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, to enable him travel to Nigeria, an official, who admitted approving Mr. Sawyer’s travel, has said. Sebastian Muah, who until recently was the Liberian Deputy Minister of Finance for Fiscal Affairs, said in an email to PREMIUM TIMES that the late Mr. Sawyer deceived the Liberian government into believing that he was “Ebola Free’. Mr. Muah was responding to this newspaper’s exclusive report on Tuesday indicating that he, on behalf of the Liberian government, cleared Mr. Sawyer to head to Nigeria even when the administration knew he was under observation for Ebola. In his response, the former minister said Mr. Sawyer told his ministry that he had no contact with his younger sister who died of the disease on July 8 and that he had voluntarily subjected himself for testing which showed he was free of Ebola. Mr. Muah said even to secure employment as a Liberian Government official, a position that qualified him for the trip, Mr. Sawyer lied that he had quit his employment as Public Health Manager of ArcelorMittal, an iron ore mining company in the country. The former minister said Mr. Sawyer told the same lies to ECOWAS, and at a point, sidestepped the Liberian Minister of Finance, dealing directly with ECOWAS on matters concerning the trip. On the whole, Mr. Muah blamed the slip that enabled Mr. Sawyer to travel to Nigeria on a “broken system of communication” within the Liberian bureaucracy. Nigeria was free of Ebola until July 20 when Mr. Sawyer arrived. He became terribly ill on his flight and was rushed to the First Consultant Hospital Obalende, Lagos, where he died on July 24. Nigeria’s Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said on Monday that although the Liberian government has apologized for the incidence, it was pertinent to note that Nigeria was free of Ebola Virus until its importation by the Liberian-American. Mr. Sawyer’s action, he said, has placed unnecessary stress on Nigeria’s health system. An apparently angry President Goodluck Jonathan also described Mr. Sawyer’s action as “madness”. Since the Liberian’s death in a Lagos hospital, three other persons who had contact with him have died of the virus. At least seven others have also tested positive to the infection and have been quarantined at a Lagos hospital. President Goodluck Jonathan has since declared a national emergency on the disease while the federal health ministry in conjunction with health ministries in the 36 states are working to prevent the spread of the virus, which has killed over 1,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Read Mr. Muah’s explanation in full below: “Sawyer’s travel was made possible not by the GoL (Government of Liberia). My office has a review and approval process for ECOWAS related travel. Sawyer, if you must know, was asked not to report to work even at the Ministry of Finance. “The fact of the matter, this many of us now know, is when you’re tested for Ebola right after contact, your test will come back negative. Being a non-medical officer, and seeing his emails from the time he was still supposedly employed by Mittal as their Public Health Manager (which he was still employed until his death deceiving us that he was no longer in their employ), he said he’d was in NO direct contact and that he had submitted himself for testing, but anyone can claim they’re “Ebola Free” if tested right after contact (something his email claimed he had NOT made with his sister [Direct contact with fluids]). “Further, the fact that he requested e-tickets and I was NOT copied on those communications says that he did not want me informed. But I have a process of approval and believed that any such travel would meet that approval process; hence my assertion as to making the approval. “But apparently, people were self-contracting on an “honour” system of quarantining themselves. Because I did not get a watch list to know who were to be quarantined or not. But shifting blame is NOT a part of who I am, I believe institutions should be the basis of functionality and not individuals. “The system of approval for Travel was NOT followed and for the record, Sawyer’s trip was not approved by the system I had in place and hence did NOT meet my approval. My folks indicated to me that no request was made through the system. “He travelled because he did NOT inform the ECOWAS commission who purchased his plane tickets and paid per diem for his travel; and because we did not have this ticket information to actually alert relevant authorities to stop such. “Upon checking his government emails I was able to uncover that he was communicating differently and directly with ECOWAS Commission (both using his Yahoo and gov.lr) and got an e-ticket from the Commission’s travel Unit. He did NOT even inform the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, who was traveling with him about his situation. His email to folks at ECOWAS only said he had lost his sister. “Further to that, he WAS in the employ of Mittal, this was information I was NOT made aware. When there is a broken system of communication and silo institutional structure, someone intending to deceive can get away with such. “The ticket below shows who actually paid for Mr. Sawyer’s travel to Nigeria. No senior management at MoF saw Sawyer from the inception of his letter until his demise. Key here is when there is no strong integration around institutional communication, people can dupe the system. “In this case Sawyer for no reason whatsoever I can imagine decided that he was going to travel while sick. A fundamental challenge with the fight that we have to make against this Disease. Ebola is a disease that can thrive on deceit, self-denial, pride, envy, non-patriotic behaviour.” Below is the ticket with which Mr. Sawyer would have travelled to Calabar. For those who are saying not to blame Mr. Sawyer for this, do ask yourselves if Mr. Sawyer or his government knew or suspected that he had this disease. If it got to Nigeria inadvertently, it is a differently matter. When you blame the Nigerian doctor/government for not being ready for this, look also at the other side of the coin. And we should all remember that if this is not contained now, a disaster is going to happen. Nigeria is not completely out of the woods yet. |
R.I.P Doctor. My heart goes to all staff of First Consultant, who have lost some of their colleagues unnecessarily because of Mr. Sawyer. I mean, these people were only trying to help. It is so so sad. May God give the families of these fallen heroes the fortitude to bear their losses. And for everyone one out there, please be careful. Be hygiene conscious and may God let this pass over soon. |
SiriusBlack, you and the other brave soldiers are in our prayers. keep safe. One day you will tell the story that you have been disallowed to tell us now. Godspeed! Really sad, this thread actually made me respect more, the soldiers that are out there fighting those beasts. |
emma2002: @ Biggyd2Lol, we all have to be careful. It will pass. And to sound a note of warning to those who like visiting the daughters of the night and people who jump from one partner to another to hump, beware of this disease. ![]() |
1. Buying and eating peeled and cut up fruits by roadside sellers. Remember that some of them actually wash themselves 'down there' at certain times of the day. You won't be there to supervise how they wash their hands (if they do) before handling those fruits. . 2. Buying 'cooked and fried' stuffs from roadside traders. Those things are sometimes allowed to get cold, with these traders and their customers talking over their wares, without face masks. Well let us remember that some people have flying saliva and we won't want to think about where it my land. . Many parents who give their kids N20 to buy food from mama put, instead of cooking for them, should take note.3. Drinking roadside cold tea from those sellers with funny looking pots or exposed foods and drinks. At this time, let us eat our properly cooked home meals in our houses. Think about it, it will encourage family bonding ![]() 4. Using roadside malam for pedicure! I still don't understand why people do this, Ebola or no Ebola! ![]() 5. Sharing stuffy air inside crowded enclosed places like bus. Let us stop overcrowded standing in buses and breathing into each others faces. . 6. Avoid use of public toilets. If you have too, disinfect properly before use. And yes, carry disinfectants with you, if you can ![]() 7. Schools should not resume unless this thing is contained. We all know how children love to share everything among themselves. There is no love in sharing when it comes to ebola o. Dem too plenty a beg, make others talk. |
Way to go! In a country where many revere their religious leaders more than God, the religious authorities should all start to educate their followers on this disease, to minimise the spread to the barest minimum. |
Whether or not this is indeed an ebola case, if nothing is done, it will continue spreading, sadly. Countries outside Africa are not even safe. Countries have man made borders whose securities are broken by people always. If not why the complaint of illegal immigrants by many countries. The whole world is in this together, if nothing is done fast. ![]() |
Posted the comment below on another thread. Thank you Op for this thread. Let us start helping ourselves NOW!!! Please Lagos State should stop BRT and other buses elsewhere from overcrowding their buses. Many of these buses still carry people with many standing at very close proximity to each other! shocked. Some days back I was at a bank which was so overcrowded and the ACs were not working! |
Please Lagos State should stop BRT and other buses elsewhere from overcrowding their buses. Many of these buses still carry people with many standing at very close proximity to each other! We could start wearing hand gloves and face masks. i have noticed that some people have already started doing that. .They are relatively cheap. And we must change or upgrade our hygiene practices. Wash your hands always (as many times as possible) with water and soap especially before your leave or enter your house. Take your bath too. The prices of sanitizers have skyrocketed but like a Doctor said, adding bleach to water to wash your hands is as good or better. You could also buy methylated spirit instead of sanitizers. Companies and organizations are advised to provide hand washing materials for visitors to use before entering their establishments. They are advised to use deposable hand towels instead of cloth towels. Make a conscious effort to avoid rubbing your hand over your face, to avoid introducing an virus into your mouth or eyes. It is difficult, but try until you get there. Avoid crowded places if you can. Let's minimize the parties etc, unless absolutely necessary. And yes, we all know by now, handshaking and hugging is a serious no no, Lol ![]() LET US HELP OURSELVES, EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT EBOLA, MANY DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS A KILLER DISEASE. LET EVERYONE BE AWARE and TAKE PREVENTIVE MEASURES. God helping us, this will pass. NL, please add more info about how to protect ourselves if you of any? Moaning everyday about this this will lead us no where, at least until there is a cure. My 1Kobo. |
It is time we start discussing how to minimize the spread of this virus. Since there is no cure for it yet, what do we do to help ourselves? Awareness is the key now. |
How do you make sure that the hands are clean always? Do you follow a crawling child anywhere he/she goes? Do you know how many thumb sucking children land in the hospital just because they picked unnecessary infections? We are not even talking of deformed teeth. I think people should at least try something that won't be harmful to the child ie bitterleaf. If the child still doesn't stop, the adult would have the comfort that they made effort to help. Nobody wants a child who sucks until they are in secondary school(and some of them do) |
Small pikins, una do well. See as dem dey wash their smelly pata for village square. Silly boys-men. Just hope that they know what they are doing. It might just be too late when they realise their mistake. Indeed, common sense is not common. I beg make I face my own wahala jare. |
HABRUZZY: plsMaybe you should show them what you've done already and they could help you from where you got stuck. Hoping the gurus will help from there though .@ topic, great and beautiful work you guys are doing! |
OP, God bless you guys. Reading this thread just made me think about all who have been made widows/widowers, fatherless/motherless by some senseless wimp called boko harm. Breadwinners cut short in their prime! We may get agitated when we think the army is not doing enough. With this thread we can confirm that there are men and women who are genuinely keeping awake for other civilians to sleep. We know that there are bad eggs though and this is always expected. But we shall overcome this menace. To the fallen soldiers, sleep on, and the living we wish Godspeed. For the soldiers who unnecessarily harass and beat up civilians on the street of Lagos and elsewhere, Shame On You! Take a cue from the gallant soldiers who through all the odds are still making us proud. |
Even statue show respect.

So, DON'T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA... > . Argentines fans weeping seriously. |
Yes!!! |
Let there be a winner during the extra time, I beg. It's so disheartening for players to play for 120mins only for a winner to be determined by players standing one on one in front of the goalkeeper to score goals! . It just looks like the players wasted their effort in playing in the first place. |
Goal keeper has to do what he has to do,especially with this porous defence. |
