PoliticsRe: PDP Disowns Dokpesi, Says Apology To Nigerians His Personal Opinion by billyG(m): 8:04pm On Nov 12, 2015
iwaeda:
The National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, said the apology credited to the party’s National Conference Committee Chairman, Raymond Dokpesi, remained his personal opinion.
Mr. Metuh made this remark when he spoke with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said Mr. Dokpesi’s statement did not in any way represent the official position of the PDP, as he was not a member of the party’s National Executive Committee.
Mr. Metuh said Mr. Dokpesi could only speak in his personal capacity adding that his opinion remains personal and did not represent that of the party.
On PDP’s choice of former President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate in the 2015 presidential race, Mr. Metuh said the decision was approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
He added that the decision was also approved by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), and the party’s National Caucus.
“In addition, the Constitution of the party allows a sitting president the chance to exercise his personal right to run for a second term if he so desires.’’
On whether the party regretted its action, Metuh said, “how can you regret a decision taken when everyone was there, the NWC, NEC and the national caucus?
“What are we talking about? Everybody was conscious of the decision; nobody was coerced into supporting the position.”
He, however, said it was not the time for buck-passing or blame-game but time to collectively reposition the party.
“We are repositioning our party. What we should do is to join hands to reposition PDP based on Sen. Ike Ekweremadu’s report to reclaim the party’s lost glory. This is what is expected of us all at this time,’’ Mr. Metuh said.
Mr. Dokpesi had on Tuesday, on behalf of the PDP, apologised for mistakes the party made during its 16 years rule in the country.
Mr. Dokpesi admitted that the party might not have met all the expectations of Nigerians while it was in power, saying “on behalf of PDP, I tender our apologies.”
Mr. Dokpesi admitted that the party deviated from the dream of its founding fathers, adding that members operated without recourse to the rule of law.
He added that the party, in 2010 and 2011, made the first fundamental mistake for not allowing the North to complete its term.
He noted that special recommendations were made to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan to complete it.

Obviously like most Nigerians, you're lost on the motive behind the currency restrictions.

In fact I too was until I read this article and it made some sense which is the only meaningful thing about the post.

As said in the article, the restrictions were to safeguard the economy fro further dwindling. It was to reduce what Nigerians spend our reserve on. To curb the spending pending the time they get their economic team online and working.

It is obvious Nigeria is not earning much from crude sales again which is not the fault of the present administration. So it is only logical that our expenses be controlled too.

I have never for once doubted the Ability of this government even if I didn't understood the motive behind currency restriction then.
Just imagine our thiefing politicians & their kids who cannot even produce a bicycle tyre will be using our hard earn Fx reserves to buy Bugatti, lamborghini,Rollsroyce, bullet proof G-wagon,Ferari,private jets haba!

This just about summarised the article.

The duara dullard is aka Baba Go-Slow.

He's slowness in thinking, and acting exacerbate the situation, now he has to do catch up.

However one thing the Forbes article failed to mention is the much touted talk of diversifying the economy. One would have thought that attention and effort would be given to the agricultural ministry in the form of an energetic and dynamic minister like the last occupant of that very strategic ministry. But what do we have? A 68 old career politician - Audu Ogbeh! undecided

Frankly speaking, I don't think this government has anything to offer economy wise. It is instinctively anti-market and does nopt take any cues from market signals.

The foreign exchange controls are already having devastating effects on the manufacturing and commercial sectors. This has led to a motre than 10% disparity between the official and parallel market. It should never be more than 3% or you encourage round tripping as its happening now.

Banning 40 products from the forex market was an extremely amateurish attempt to preserve foreign exchange.

The best way of managing forex is by liberalizing and deregulating the forex market.

If the demand for imports is quite strong, your currency loses value and makes imports more expensive and less affordable.

As your currency weakens,it makes your exports more competitive encouraging exporters to sell more and earn foreign exchange. It counterbalances

Buhari won't last more than a term. These businessmen are not smiling. In 2019, they will come to settle scores.

PoliticsRe: Fresh Crisis In Senate As APC Senators Vow To Stop Ekweremadu From Presiding by billyG(m): 1:00pm On Nov 12, 2015
erunz:
Some All Progressives Congress (APC) senators yesterday staged a walkout from the chamber in protest of the ascension of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to the platform to preside over the plenary in the absence of Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki had gone to the Presidential Villa to attend the swearing in of new ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari and consequently asked Ekweremadu to preside over the plenary.

However, the arrival of Ekweremadu into the chamber to preside over the session, irritated some APC senators who said they would not sit and watch a member of the minority Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) preside over the APC majority-controlled chamber.

They accused Saraki of handing over the Senate to Ekweremadu who preside over the plenary for the first time since June 9 when himself and Saraki were elected as the presiding officers of the Senate.

The aggrieved senators who walked out of the chamber vowed not to attend any plenary session presided over by Ekweremadu. The development quickly got to
Saraki in the Villa and consequently, he hastened down to take over from Ekweremadu, a situation that never occurred when Ekweremadu was Senator David Mark’s deputy.

In the days of Mark as senate president, he never returned to the chamber to take over from Ekweremadu even when he returned to the Senate before the end of plenary. Instead, Mark would go straight to his office to enable Ekweremadu preside all through. But Saraki was compelled to return to the chamber to take over the plenary to avoid brewing crisis.

APC senators who walked out on Wednesday included the Chief Whip, Senators Sola Adeyeye, Abu Ibrahim, Oluremi Tinubu, Suleiman Kunkuyi, among others. Notwithstanding, the plenary continued as many other APC senators, including the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, his deputy, Bala Ibn Na’Allah; Kabiru Gaya , Binta Masi Garba, Shehu Sani among others remained in the chamber while Ekweremadu presided.

After the plenary, Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), issued a statement, vowing that APC senators would reject any further attempt to allow a member of the minority party preside over their sittings.

The statement read: “In equal stance, we notice with grave sadness, the handover of the hallowed chamber of the Senate today (yesterday) to the opposition party, the PDP, by the Senate President to Ike Ekweremadu as the PDP helmsman to preside over the majority membership of the APC-led chamber.

“It is a very sad development that must be denounced by all well meaning APC members and leaders alike. With this, to show our protest as APC senators of the eight Senate, we wish to announce that we shall seize (sic) to attend any seating (sic) presided over by the PDP in an APC majority chamber of the eight Senate.”
Another APC senator who did not want to be named, told journalists that his colleagues would resist the next attempt by Ekweremadu to preside over the plenary by massively boycotting the session.

The bad blood generated by the development prompted Saraki to call the senators into a closed-door session after the plenary. The session lasted for one and half hour.

However, the Senate in an official reaction to the development last night, dismissed the allegation of conspiracy to hand over the Senate to PDP.

A statement by Senate’s spokesman, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, described the alleged conspiracy as nothing but the figment of imagination of those who made the claim.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the allegation, saying the Senate remained committed “to providing robust legislative actions to support the change agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari government, adding: the “Bi-partisan stand of the Senate has not and will not be an impediment.”

But a PDP senator, Sam Anyanwu (Imo East), dismissed the action of APC senators as a mere waste of time, saying there is nothing the APC senators can do to stop Ekweremadu from presiding whenever Saraki is not around.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has fined Guinness Nigeria Plc, N1bn for violating laid down rules.

Punch Newspapers reports that NAFDAC accused Guinness of allegedly revalidating expired products without authorisation and supervision, and exposing its raw materials to rodents.

An excerpt of the letter from NAFDAC, which was obtained from Punch, reads “In view of the above, you are further required to take the following actions: disclosure of all your warehouses in the country and submission of inventory level of the stock thereof; submit a written voluntary consent of forfeiture for destruction of the expired and revalidated raw materials discovered in your warehouse; and submit a notarised undertaking to comply with all the guidelines, rules, regulations and enactments of the agency, and to refrain from any future violations.”
