One of my students asked me a thought-provoking question that left me speechless and transfixed with confusion. Please, what would be an apt response to his question? Help me out! Here is the question. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lm_IMVl8uM |
owobokiri:Well said, but I don't think China is afraid of sanctions or any other punitive measures taken against it. As for technology transfer, China has stolen all the technology it needs from the west. The only technology they have not stolen is chip design and production but they are making giant strides in this regard. I think no nation can sanction China at this point and make it change its ways. Only the US can sanction China and cause a little problem here and there, but nothing damaging to China's economy. Hauwei is an example of how damaging US sanctions can be for a Chinese company but China's economy remains unaffected thus far. And China has retaliated against American sanctions too. The fact that a lot of American companies like Apple, Tesla, Microsoft, etc rely on this Chinese market would give China leverage if the trade war worsens with America. China is also the biggest source of revenue for Hollywood. China doesn't want to mend fences with the West. It needs the friction to whip up nationalistic sentiment which would, in turn, benefit the communist party. Most Chinese people wouldn't support the communist party if they didn't feel the west was hellbent on impeding China's development. The communist party wants this narrative to continue. |
Werey! He was among those who brought Buhari to power, now he wants us to cry to God for solution. Werey! |
owobokiri:China and India seem to be pushing india firmly into the hands of the USA, I'm not sure it will be long-lasting. I think it will be long-lasting. China has unwavering support for India's arch enemy, Pakistan. As long as this support continues, China and India will never see eye to eye. I believe that in the future, Russia is going to be an ally of the West. I think Vladimir Putin is the glue holding the Russia-China relationship. The opposition is gaining traction. The guy that was poisoned and recently jailed ( I can't remember his name) would cause serious problems for Putin if a free and fair election is held. Putin would go someday and a democrat would take over and pivot the country to the West. I don't see this happening in China though. The damage done to the India-China relationship is irreparable. India has banned almost all Chinese apps. They recently excluded Hauwei from 5G trials. The revival of the Quad is prove that India is not firmly in the camp of the West. |
owobokiri:China is not Russia's solid ally even though they have similar voting pattern at the UN and support each other diplomatically. Russia supplies arms to India, China's foe. Russia would have suspended all arms trade with India if it was as close to China and they make people believe. |
How did this post degenerate into tribal bashing? Judging from the views this video is getting, it's obvious that a lot of people aren't watching it, but they are here commenting and throwing shades. |
Revolva:Who is the idiot that is filming? So he couldn't drop the phone and intervene? Thank God she fought back. The mopol is very stupid. |

ifynicky:The injustice is glaring. Even a blind man can see it. Buhari has been unfair to the Southeast, but don't think that we are having it easy in the North. Last month, well-armed terrorists attacked a predominantly Christian community in Gombe state and wreaked havoc. Scores were killed and all the houses in the community were touched. Every major Christain community in Gombe has a Muslim king. The only Christian king died recently and our fanatical governor tried to appoint a Muslim. It caused sectarian crisis and the police were sent to restore order. The matter is still in court. Christians are being butchered in Southern Kaduna and the govt isn't doing anything about it. I am trying to make you understand that we aren't having it easy in the North. Muslims aren't even left out of the madness going on. They are attacked and butchered by bandits and terrorists. Buhari has to go for the nation to heal. He only cares about Fulani people and their cows and he makes no pretense about it. Nigeria has never been this divided. Buhari is bad luck. There can be no peace where injustice thrives, but we have to give it a shot. I don't know what else to say. I recently read an article where it was stated that influential Muslims advised Buhari through the chief of staff to appoint an Igbo man as COS after the death of the previous one, but he ignored them. A lot of northerners, Christians and Muslims, are sick of Buhari's nepotism and lopsided appointments, but what else can we do? |
davinchecodes:And the annoying thing is that the soldiers deployed in the South-East are needed in the North. Bandits and terrorist are having a field day in the North. They are killing us like flies, but the government isn't doing anything to tackle the situation. Criminals in the North have become law unto themselves. It's a sad situation. |
As we commemorate the fallen Biafran soldiers on this day, let me narrate a story my father told me. My father was enlisted in the army during the Biafran war and he fought for the federal government alongside recruits who were Tivs, Idomas, Ijaws, Urhobos, Itshekiris, Bini, etc. When my father told me this, I didn't want to say he was lying, but I told him he was being economical with the truth, but he said lots of things that convinced me and I knew he was honest about his experiences during the war. Atrocities were committed and they were sickening. You have to watch this video to understand the full gist. Please, do subscribe to my channel, like and share this video. I want to know your thoughts about what my father said. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcRQgSYOzwU |
After killing five students the bastards still got paid. Ogun will kill them for me. Jesus will destroy them for me. |
Casper21:It's "write-up", the word is hyphenated. No, I won't get paid, but I am glad I educated you. Who is the ode? The one who doesn't know that the world is a global village and things are changing pretty fast, or the one who is knowledgeable about the world? |
Casper21:Ignorance is expensive. Asia is the biggest market for English teachers. In a few years from now, it is estimated that the people who speak fluent English in China will exceed the population of the United States. The craze for English in Asian countries is not something I can make you understand. Just do a google search. Asian countries like Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc have English as a compulsory subject in their schools. And to teach English in these countries, one needs to have a degree and a TEFL certification. Thousands of Africans, including Nigerians, are teaching English in Asian countries. Do you even know that some universities in China and non-English speaking countries like China, Poland, Ukraine, Poland, Japan, Hungary, etc offer degree courses that students are taught entirely in English? What does this tell you about the importance of other advanced countries but in the English language? Do you know that companies in non-English speaking countries are adopting English as their official language? Japanese cosmetics giant, Shiseido, has adopted English as an in-house language. The company said internal documents will be written and meetings will be conducted in English for its roughly 2,500 employees in Japan. Japanese, e-commerce giant Rakuten, introduced an English-only policy in 2010. Japanese carmaker, Honda, made English its official language in 2020. I am not making this up. These are information you can verify. Google "Teaching English in Asian countries" and you'll be amazed. Parents in Asian countries believe that their kid's proficiency in English will give them an edge in life. That's why English centers are springing up in so many Asian countries. Your comment shows that you know next-to-nothing about how rapidly the world is changing. Check out the "English Proficiency Index" on google and you'll see that citizens of non-English speaking countries like Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Singapore, etc speak better English than Nigerians where English is a de facto language. Your post reeks of ignorance. Educate yourself about the world. |
Tohsynetita1:I beg to differ. When I was in secondary school, my classmates and I would mock our teacher whenever she tried to teach us oral English. We didn't do it in her presence though. We said English is not our mother's tongue. My interest in oral English started after secondary. When I watched the news, the famous newscaster, Cyril Stober, and Mrs Kehinde (the host of Sunday newsline)would pronounce words differently than I did. I started regretting not taking oral English seriously in secondary school. Nollywood actors and actresses like Pete Edochie, Ramsey Noah, Bimbo Akintola, Genevieve Nnaji, Bob Manuel, Joke Silva, Olu Jacobs, etc made me appreciate the need to pronounce English words correctly. These actors don't sound like white people, but they pronounce English words correctly. We just didn't pay attention in class, but I'm sure that most of us were taught oral English. We weren't just taught to pass. We were actually taught to use it, but we felt it was needless. |
ItooWorWor:If you studied oral English in school, you should be able to pronounce English words correctly. Nigerian newscasters and some Nollywood actors and actresses pronounce English words correctly. They didn't fall from the sky. They are Nigerians. There are American missionaries in Jos. They didn't just learn how to speak Hausa and other local languages, they learnt how to pronounce the words correctly. Learning how to pronounce a word like a native speaker doesn't mean adopting the speaker's accent. Frand Edoho of Who Wants to be a Millionaire pronounces English words correctly. Does he sound like a white man? You can pronounce English words correctly without sounding like a white person. |
In some states, beer is only sold in the army or police barrack because of sharia. In such states, where does she want them to relocate beer parlors to? The government house? |
YungMillionaire:English is our lingua franca and a global language. I have cousins working in the UK and the US because of their competence in English. Chimamanda Adichie, Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, etc are renowned because of their works in English. They could have written their novels in Yoruba or Igbo, but they chose English. Do you know why? I bet your dumbass doesn't know why. Artists from anglophone countries are more famous than their counterparts from francophone, lusophone, or Arab countries. Do you know why? Do you know why Nollywood is now the world's second-largest film industry? It's because of English. Black people from the Caribbean are learning about African culture from Nollywood movies. Black people in the diaspora made Nollywood popular. And it's all because they understood English. I am from Gombe state and my tribe is cham. We are not more than 200k in my community. If I make a video about my language, who would want to learn it? Go and tell the government to stop using English. Go and tell pastors to stop preaching in English. The fact that you chose to criticize my video using English shows how dumb you are. I won't let you make me feel I don't love my culture or language. Cow! |
In English, orthography, and pronunciation are not always the same. A word can be spelt in one way but pronounced in a completely different way. Such words are said to be non-phonetic. Some of you are going to find it hard to believe that you have been pronouncing certain words wrongly all your life, but it's ok. English is not your first language, so it's not entirely your fault, but the Nigerian educational system makes provision for the teaching of Oral English in elementary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, so what's your excuse for not knowing what you should know? Some of you are going to disagree with my pronunciations, and it's ok, but make sure you carry out your research. Ask an authority in Oral English to guide you. This problem isn't just peculiar to Nigerians but other Africans. ESL students also face the same problem, so this video will serve as a guide to not just Nigerians, but anyone who wants to improve their articulation of English words. If after watching this video, you are sure that these are words you can already pronounce correctly, it means you have a native-like command of English. Congratulations! Please, SUBSCRIBE to my channel, like this video, drop a comment. I'd also love to learn from you guys. And please, share this video. It might be helpful to others. China is making great strides and its leaders don't pray. I am not saying it's wrong to pray, but even the Bible says faith without work is dead. You can't pray your problems away when you should be implementing the right policies and tackling problems head on. Please, check out DARIOSITY on Youtube and sub. |
