Crime / Senior Lawyer Shot Dead After Ransom Delivery To Kidnappers In Kogi by binoosmart(m): 2:19pm On Mar 13
The tragic death of Barr Eli Ugwu, a senior lawyer from Enugu State, has plunged the community of Nsukka into profound sorrow. Reports indicate that Ugwu was fatally shot in Kogi State shortly after delivering ransom to kidnappers who had abducted his cousin, marking a harrowing turn of events that has sparked controversies.

Initial accounts suggested that Ugwu fell victim to the kidnappers’ brutality after fulfilling their demands. However, emerging reports have cast doubt on this narrative. According to sources, including a Facebook post by Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, it’s now believed that Ugwu and his cousin were shot by policemen as they emerged from the bush following the release of the kidnapped relative.

The shifting circumstances surrounding Ugwu’s death have left the community reeling with shock and uncertainty. While some maintain that he was targeted by the kidnappers, others assert that law enforcement officers were responsible for the tragic outcome. A senior lawyer, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Ugwu was shot by the police after successfully delivering the ransom, leaving his cousin injured but alive.

Ugwu’s untimely demise has deeply affected the legal community, where he was a respected member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nsukka branch. His sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity, highlighting the dangers faced by practitioners in their line of duty.

Politics / Political Foot Soldier Believes Kogi Workers Should Be Grateful For 80% Salary by binoosmart(m): 3:25pm On Mar 02
In Kogi State, there’s a troubling belief among some political figures that the hardworking state employees don’t deserve their full salaries. Recently, a person called Eja Nla, also known as Hajj Ciroma, shared on Facebook that paying workers only 80% of their salary should be enough, saying “When you show appreciation, they do more. May Ododo succeed.”

This attitude is unfair, especially considering the tough times in Kogi State. Many people are struggling, and every bit of their salary matters. It’s shocking to think that after all the hardships during the previous governor’s time, anyone would suggest that workers should be grateful for less than what they’re owed.

While regular folks are just trying to get by, some politicians are living in luxury, building big houses and driving fancy cars. This huge gap between the rich and the rest of us shows how broken things are.

We, the people of Nigeria, especially those in Kogi State, need to stand up and demand better treatment. The government should make it a priority to pay workers what they’re owed, without question.

Thinking that paying only part of someone’s salary is a favor shows how messed up things have become. We need to hold our leaders accountable, not just now, but for the wrongs of the past too. The authorities should investigate and punish anyone who’s cheated the people of Kogi State.

Let’s not accept crumbs when we deserve the whole loaf. It’s time to unite and demand fairness, respect, and justice for every worker in Kogi State. Only together can we make things right and build a brighter future for our state and our country.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine War: Germany Says ‘not Possible’ To Do Without Russian Gas by binoosmart(m): 8:28pm On Apr 04, 2022
On Monday, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner stated that the European Union (EU) will “not be able” to function without Russian gas supplies.

The politician made this statement as the EU prepares to impose further sanctions against Russia in the aftermath of the events in Bucharest.

The question is whether the latest set of sanctions will have an impact on Russian gas, oil, and coal exports.

“Right now, it is not possible to cut off gas supplies. We need some time, so we need to differentiate between oil, coal, and gas right now, “Linder said upon arrival at the EU finance ministers’ meeting held in Luxembourg.

The German minister also stated that the suspension of Russian oil and coal imports would be more detrimental to European countries than to Moscow.

Germany is particularly reliant on Russian gas, and the minister emphasised that his country wants to be less reliant on Russian energy supplies in the near future.

According to Georgia On Line, “Germany gets 55 percent of its natural gas from Russia, 35 percent of its crude oil from Russia, and 45 percent of its coal from Russia.”

When asked if the current wave of sanctions being prepared by Brussels will include limits on Russian oil imports, Economic Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis of the European Commission (EC) responded, “nothing is off the table.”

On Wednesday or Thursday, this fresh bundle of measures could be accepted.

Career / 4.4 Million America Citizens Quit Their Jobs As The Great Resignation Continues by binoosmart(m): 5:09pm On Mar 30, 2022
Employers in the United States has reported 11.3 million job openings, according to a report released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labour Statistics.

“We continue to have an unusual amount of churn in the job market,” said Erica Groshen, an economist at Cornell University and a former head of the Bureau of Labour Statistics. “We were all just holding our breaths during the worst parts of the pandemic, but now that’s changing.”

The latest report builds on months of economic momentum, with U.S. employers adding a record 7 million jobs over the past year. The economy created 678,000 positions in February alone, sending the unemployment rate to a pandemic low of 3.8 percent, Labour Department data shows.

That strong reading — which added to the Federal Reserve’s resolve to begin increasing interest rates this month — also has given new leverage to workers as they look for more-favourable working conditions and higher pay.

“The labor market is still raring to go, with strong employer demand and increased worker mobility,” said Daniel Zhao, a senior economist at the job review site Glassdoor. “We’re still seeing very strong job openings and quits, as well as layoffs at record lows.”

Americans who switched jobs saw a typical raise of 6.6 percent in the past year, while those who stayed saw their pay go up 5.4 percent, according to a widely watched measure of wage growth from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Both numbers, reported as three-month averages, are at or near the highest rates since the late 1990s.

But inflation has eroded many of those wage gains and contributed to growing unease about the economy. A growing portion of Americans — 21 percent — cite rising prices as the country’s top problem, up from about 10 percent in February, according to a new Gallup poll.

The poll also suggests concerns about costs are overriding positive news on unemployment. A 75 percent majority says the economy is getting worse, up from 70 percent in February. “Unemployment” ranks at the bottom of a list of national concerns, with 32 percent saying they worry “a great deal” about it, but 59 percent are highly worried about inflation, and 58 percent are worried about the economy in general.

Those concerns probably are contributing to increased job-hopping among Americans who are seeking to take advantage of the tight labor market.

Jeff Gabbard quit his IT job in Indianapolis in February, thinking it would take about three months to find a new position. It took less than two weeks.

His job search was a far cry from earlier in the pandemic, when Gabbard was unemployed for over a year. This time around, he says, there were many more openings that offered perks such as the option to work from home.

“Being able to work remotely really opened things up for me, because, all of a sudden, I wasn’t just limited to Indianapolis,” said Gabbard, 57. “I could take a job anywhere.”

Interest in remote positions has been rising steadily among job seekers as they look for ways to improve their working conditions, according to Zhao of Glassdoor.

“We are starting to see more companies offering remote and hybrid options as they recognize they need to be more flexible to actually compete for talent,” he said. “Workers are using this to take advantage of newfound leverage to negotiate conditions that are beneficial for them.”

Joshua Waight quit his job at a 99 cent store in Sonora, Calif., in February, to stay home with his 8-month-old son. He’d spent the previous year making minimum wage on the early-morning stocking shift but grew frustrated by the limited hours. With his wife starting a new job at a nearby casino, it seemed like a good time to leave the workforce.

“I felt like my career wasn’t going anywhere, and I wanted to be home for my son,” the 34-year-old said. “Working through the pandemic was difficult.”

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Says Will Meet Russia As Putin Puts Nuclear Defences On Alert by binoosmart(m): 5:36pm On Feb 27, 2022
Ukraine said Sunday it had agreed to talks with Russia after four days of conflict, as Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his defence chiefs to put nuclear “deterrence forces” on alert.

The conflict has already killed dozens of civilians, forced hundreds of thousands to flee and turned Moscow into a global pariah.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s office said a Ukrainian delegation would meet the Russian one at the border with Belarus, which has allowed Russian troops passage to attack Ukraine.

The meeting is set to take place near Chernobyl — the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

“The politicians agreed that the Ukrainian delegation would meet the Russian one without preconditions,” Zelenskiy’s office said in a statement after the president spoke to his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.

Ukrainian forces earlier said they had fought off a Russian incursion into Ukraine’s second biggest city, Kharkiv, on day four of Russia’s invasion.

As Western countries lined up to send arms into Ukraine and impose ever more stringent sanctions, Putin ordered his defense chiefs to put the country’s nuclear “deterrence forces” on high alert.

Putin accused Western countries of taking “unfriendly” steps against his country.

Ukraine has reported 198 civilian deaths, including three children, since the invasion began.

The UN has put the civilian toll at 64.

“The past night in Ukraine was brutal,”

Zelenskiy said.
“They fight against everyone. They fight against all living things — against kindergartens, against residential buildings and even against ambulances.”

Several European countries meanwhile banned Russian airlines from their airspace on Sunday and many pledged arms for Ukraine but made it clear that they will not intervene militarily.

In his traditional Sunday message to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis called for weapons to “fall silent” in the country and for the opening of humanitarian corridors.

A day after Berlin said it would send anti-tank weapons and Stinger missiles to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the world was in a “new era” and warned of further sanctions.

‘Will drive you crazy’

Machine gun fire and explosions were heard in Kharkiv earlier on Sunday and AFP later saw the wreckage of a Russian armoured vehicle smouldering and several others abandoned.

“Kharkiv is fully under our control,” the head of the regional administration, Oleg Sinegubov, said on Telegram, adding that the army was expelling Russian forces during a “clean-up” operation.

Moscow also claimed it was “entirely” besieging the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson and the city of Berdyansk in the southeast.

Both are located close the Crimea peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Ukrainian officials also said that a gas pipeline in eastern Kharkiv and an oil depot near the capital Kyiv were targeted by Russian forces overnight.

Ukraine said it was fighting off Russian forces in several other points and that 4,300 Russian troops had been killed.

None of the claims could be independently verified.

In Kyiv, many residents spent another night in shelters or cellars as Ukrainian forces said they were fighting off Russian “sabotage groups,” but Sunday was relatively calm compared to previous days.

The city is under a blanket curfew until Monday morning though some residents ventured out regardless.

Out for a walk in a park, 41-year-old Flora Stepanova said staying at home watching the news all the time “will drive you crazy.”

On Saturday, Russia ordered its forces to advance further into Ukraine “from all directions” but soldiers have encountered fierce resistance from Ukrainian troops

Western sources said the intensity of the resistance seems to have surprised Moscow.

Ukraine’s army said it held the line against an assault on Kyiv, but was using the curfew to fight Russian “sabotage groups” that had infiltrated the city.

On Sunday, Ukraine’s general staff urged any foreigners to come to Ukraine “and fight side-by-side with Ukrainians against Russian war criminals.”

‘I was trembling’

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) says more than 368,000 people have fled to neighbouring countries, while more than 160,000 are estimated to be displaced within Ukraine.

Pope Francis called for the “urgent” opening of humanitarian corridors for Ukraine to allow even more to leave.

AFP saw stationary queues of cars stretching for dozens of kilometres on the roads to Ukraine’s border crossings with Poland.

“Attacks were everywhere,” said Diana, 37, who fled the Ukrainian capital. “My mother is still in Kyiv.”

Poland, Germany and Austria have said Ukrainians can ride for free on their trains until further notice.

In Romania, which also neighbours Ukraine, Olga, 36, was among hundreds to have crossed the Danube river with her three young children to safety.

“My husband came with us as far as the border, before returning to Kyiv to fight,” she said.

Crippling bank sanctions
Responding to the invasion, the West said it would remove some Russian banks from the SWIFT bank messaging system, and froze Central Bank assets — hitting some of Russia’s global trade.

A senior U.S. official said the measures would turn Russia into a “pariah,” adding that a task force would hunt down Russian oligarchs’ assets.

The conflict has rattled particularly former Soviet satellite countries in Eastern Europe who fear their post Cold War democratic gains could be threatened by Russian aggression.

The NATO alliance has said it will, for the first time, deploy part of its rapid response force to the region to reassure eastern allies.

There have also been sanctions and boycotts in the cultural and sporting spheres as well as international travel, with several countries banning Russian airlines from their airspace.

In the latest punishment for Putin, a keen judoka, the International Judo Federation said he has been suspended as its honorary president.

The Kremlin has so far brushed off sanctions, including those targeting Putin personally, as a sign of Western impotence.

Putin has said Russia’s actions are justified because it is defending Moscow-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

In an address to parishioners on Sunday, Russia’s Orthodox Patriarch Kirill voiced his support, calling Moscow’s opponents “evil forces.”

The rebels have been fighting Ukrainian government forces for eight years in a conflict that has killed more than 14,000 people.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Launches Website For Russians To Find Killed Soldiers by binoosmart(m): 2:59pm On Feb 27, 2022
Ukrainian authorities on Sunday launched a Website for Russians to Find Killed Soldiers who have been killed or captured fighting in Moscow’s invasion of the pro-Western country.

The site contains pictures of the documents and corpses of Russian soldiers Ukraine said had been killed since President Vladimir Putin launched the attack.

It also has videos of soldiers Ukraine says it has captured.

“I am talking to you in Russian because this site was created for you,” Viktor Andrusiv, an adviser to the Interior Minister, said in a video posted on the site.

“I know that many Russians are worried about how and where their children, sons, husbands are and what is happening to them — so we decided to put this online so that each of you could search for your loved one who Putin sent to fight in Ukraine.”

Andrusiv said that over the past three days Ukrainian forces had captured almost 200 Russian soldiers and more than 3,000 Russian troops had died.

“We have documents, photos and videos of all of these people,” Andrusiv said.

The name of the site references the well-known term Gruz-200 (Cargo-200) that was used by Soviet military for corpses being flown back from the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Russia’s defence ministry has so far given no details of any military losses in Ukraine since launching a multi-pronged attack Putin called a “special operation” to protect two separatist regions.

The head of the North Caucasus region of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, on Saturday became the first official to report the death of a Russian soldier in Ukraine.

He posted a tribute on his official Instagram page, paying homage to an officer he said had been killed during the “special operation to defend Donbas.”

The Kremlin has launched a major propaganda campaign to control coverage of the war in Ukraine and has ordered media to use only Russia’s official versions of events.

Moscow has long been accused of covering up losses suffered by its forces as they backed pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine and fought in Syria.

Lev Shlosberg, a prominent liberal politician, has suggested Russia’s military was using mobile crematoriums to destroy evidence of those killed in Ukraine.

“There is no war. No dead. No tombs. People will just be no more. Forever,” he wrote on his blog.

Islam for Muslims / Friday Sermon] Zamfara Killings And The Question Of Self-defense In Islam by binoosmart(m): 7:22am On Jan 14, 2022
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation. May the salutations of Allah, His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet, his family, his companions and his true and sincere followers until the Last Day – then to proceed:

Dear brothers and sisters! As reported, an estimated over 200 people were killed and 10,000 displaced in attacks by armed bandits in the northwestern Nigerian state of Zamfara following military air raids on their hideouts last week.

More than 10,000 people were displaced when their homes were razed by the armed bandits while scores are still missing.

The military conducted air attacks on Monday on targets in the Gusami forest and west Tsamre village in Zamfara, killing more than 100 armed bandits including two of their leaders.

More than 300 gunmen on motorcycles stormed eight villages in the Anka local area in Zamfara on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically, killing at least 30 people.

The Attackers also rampaged through 10 villages in Anka and Bukkuyum districts on Wednesday through Thursday, firing at residents and looting and burning homes.

The latest attacks on innocent people by the armed bandits is an act of desperation by mass murderers, now under relentless pressure from the Nigeria's military forces.

Northwest Nigeria has seen a sharp rise in mass abductions and other violent crimes since late 2020 as the government struggles to maintain law and order.

Last year, armed bandits made international headlines with a series of high-profile attacks on schools and colleges where they kidnapped hundreds of pupils. Most were released but some of those students are still being held.

Bodies were still being recovered in Zamfara and some appeared to have been mutilated or burned beyond recognition.

Nigeria’s armed forces said last week they killed 537 armed bandits and other criminal elements in the region and arrested 374 others since May last year, while 452 kidnapped civilians were rescued.

Bandits loyal to notorious gang leader Bello Turji suffered heavy losses last month in ground-and-air raids on their forest-based camps.

Angered by this, and perhaps by the fact that they were facing certain death, [they] decided to move to other locations and in the course of this they seem to be conducting these dangerous attacks.

Nigeria designated armed bandits as terrorist groups, allowing for tougher sanctions under the terrorism prevention act for suspected shooters, their informants, and supporters such as those caught supplying them with fuel and food.

Separately, gunmen on Sunday released 30 Nigerian students who spent nearly seven months in captivity.

The students of Federal Government College in Kebbi, northwest Nigeria, were abducted on June 17 when gunmen stormed their school in Birnin-Yauri.

Officials did not provide the exact number of those missing but residents had said there were more than 70.

Respected servants of Allah! Protecting oneself and one’s honour, mind, wealth and religion is a well-established basic principle in Islam. These are the five essentials which are well known to Muslims. A person has to defend himself; it is not permissible for him to consume that which will harm him, and it is not permissible for him to allow anyone to harm or kill him. If a person or a vicious animal etc attacks him, he has to defend himself, or his family or his property, and if he is killed he is counted as a shahid (martyr), and the killer will be in Hell.

If the harm that will result from this aggression is little and he gives up defending himself for the sake of Allah, then undoubtedly Allah will compensate him for that, so long as this does not cause any increase in the wrongdoing against him or anyone else.

Dear brothers and sisters! The act of killing a person and ending his/her life is the task of the judiciary.

No one can kill a person or end one’s life claiming that he/she deserves death, judging by his/her own criteria and opinion. If she/he does, she/he becomes a murderer and deserves the punishment for that murder. She/he is treated as a murderer both in the world and in the Hereafter. She/he undertakes the sins of the person she/he killed and compensates for it by going through severe punishment.

However, there are some obligatory situations, in which resisting becomes lawful due to obligation and killer can be freed from punishment. Let me list some of those exceptional situations:

1. If one takes action to kill another and the other person cannot escape though he has tried every possible way and eventually has to kill the aggressor; neither retribution nor blood money is necessary.

This is because the murdered person took the first action to kill the other and there was no other option which could dissuade him from killing; and here the obligation of self-defense emerged. However, if it was possible to send the aggressor away by shouting and calling people around for help and the person killed the aggressor without trying this option, it is not self-defense but murder.

2. If an armed conflict occurred while someone was fighting a man who entered his shop, his house or a store where he kept his possessions with the purpose of burglary and the owner killed the burglar who wanted to steal his possessions, it is called the right to defend one’s property. The owner of the property who killed the burglar is not considered a murderer; he is regarded to have made a lawful defense of property. It requires neither retribution nor blood money. The burglar shed his blood for nothing.

3. If a person resists someone who tends to rape his/her honour in his/her house or somewhere else and kills the aggressor while trying to protect his/her honour, it does not require retribution or blood money as defending one’s honour is a lawful defense. This is because she/he had no other choice than killing the aggressor in order to defend his/her honour.

It is an indisputable right of everyone to defend their life, property and honour. If one kills the aggressor while defending those, she/he is not murderer and if she/he is killed by the aggressor, she/he is considered a martyr.

My Dear people! In Islam, if someone is attacked, then he should defend himself, but he should avoid hitting the face (according to some scholars) as much as possible because of the Hadith which was narrated by Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him and in which he related that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

“If one of you were to hit, he should avoid hitting the face.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Another narration reads:

“If one of you were to fight his brother, he should avoid hitting the face.” [Muslim]

Some scholars said that this prohibition applies even to repelling an aggressor. Imam Al-Iraqi in clarifying its meaning in Tarh At-Tathrib, said:

“The meaning is that if fighting occurs between two parties, even when repelling an aggressor and the like, he should avoid hitting his face.”

Imam An-Nawawi, when interpreting Sharh Muslim, said:

“This is an explicit statement about the prohibition of hitting the face, because the face is delicate and carries all beauty; its parts are gentle and precious, and the face includes most of the senses. Hitting the face may cause defect to the senses or impair them, and it may even cause deformity to it. Deformity in the face is a significant matter because it is visible and cannot be concealed. When the face is hit, it is hardly spared from suffering deformity.”

Defending oneself against an aggressor should be done with the least severe method before the more severe; so if the aggressor is not repelled except by hitting his face, then there is no harm in doing so in this case, because if he is not repelled except by killing him, then he is killed, so it is with greater reason that if he is not repelled except by hitting his face, then he should be hit in his face, since killing is more serious than hitting the face. The Fiqh Encyclopedia reads:

“The aggressor is repelled with the less severe method first, so if it is possible to repel him by speaking to him or by calling people for help, then it is forbidden to hit him; or if it is possible to repel him by hitting him with the hand, then it is forbidden to use a whip; and if it is possible to repel him with a whip, then it is forbidden to use a stick; and if it is possible to repel him by cutting one of his body parts, then it is forbidden to kill him...”

The Fiqh Encyclopedia also reads:

“It is also a condition that repelling should be done in a gradual way; what can be repelled with words should not be repelled by hitting, and what can be repelled by hitting should not be repelled by killing…”

Dear servants of Allah! In Islam, self-defense is not just permitted; it's encouraged. Muslims are encouraged to train and become stronger. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said in a Hadith that a strong believer is more beloved to Allah Almighty than a weak believer.

During the Khilafah of Umar Ibn al-Khattab (RA), he used to encourage the Muslims to train and he severely condemned obesity (as a result of overeating).

You have read the Hadith but you need to understand it. Yes, in Islam, Muslims are not supposed to hit people in the face. This is in normal scenarios. For example, you're sparring with someone, and you're punching each other in the face. This is not permissible. Another example: You go in for professional boxing, and punch people in the face and get punched in the face. Not permissible. You are causing harm to others and being dealt harm yourself, and it's uncalled for. The situation is not hostile. You are not being attacked.

If you are being attacked, on the other hand, then you can punch wherever you need to. The situation calls for it. If you can put down the assailant without punching in the face, well and good. But if you can't, then just do what you need to do.

So it is like this: in normal, non-hostile situations, avoid punching people in the face. This is the reason boxing is not allowed in Islam as a sport. In a hostile situation, it's different.

The Qur'anic verses on this are very clear. Allah Almighty repeats, "do not aggress", multiple times. Only if attacked, is one permitted to fight back. If the other party refrains from aggression and offers one peace, we are told to stop fighting. Allah Almighty says:

"You may fight in the cause of Allah against those who attack you, but do not aggress. Allah does not love the aggressors." [Qur'an, 2:190]

And He, the Most High says:

"You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder. Do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque, unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers." [Qur'an, 2:191]

"If they refrain, then Allah is Forgiver, Most Merciful." [Qur'an, 2:192]

"You may also fight them to eliminate oppression, and to worship Allah freely. If they refrain, you shall not aggress; aggression is permitted only against the aggressors." [Qur'an, 2:193]

All fighting is regulated by the basic rule in Qur'an, 60:8-9. Fighting is allowed strictly in self-defense, while aggression and oppression are strongly condemned throughout the Qur'an. Allah Almighty says:

"O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by Allah, and do not aggress; Allah dislikes the aggressors." [Qur'an, 5:87]

"If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in Allah. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." [Qur'an, 8:61]

" ... if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then Allah gives you no excuse to fight them." [Qur'an, 4:90]

The Qur'an also reminds the believers that they should not be provoked by past animosity into committing acts of aggression (Qur'an, 5:2). Additionally, Allah Almighty insists that believers must be absolutely sure before striking in the cause of Allah (Qur'an, 4:94). Anyone who offers one peace, cannot be attacked.

"O you who believe, if you strike in the cause of Allah, you shall be absolutely sure. Do not say to one who offers you peace, "You are not a believer," seeking the spoils of this world. For Allah possesses infinite spoils. Remember that you used to be like them, and Allah blessed you. Therefore, you shall be absolutely sure (before you strike). Allah is fully Cognisant of everything you do." [Qur'an, 4:94]

Therefore Islam is a religion that allowed a person to protect himself and his family against any form of attacks.

We call the Nigeria's Governments at all levels, Federal, states and local governments, to assist the people to acquire weapons in order to help the security agents and to defend themselves, and if anyone die in the course of protecting himself, he die a martyr.

Islam has justified fighting those who fight you, or aggress against your honour, or seek to disrupt and divide you in religion, or repel you from your homes, or block the path of the Islamic mission (da’awah) and violate your right to spread Islam through proof, argument and clarification or kill your missionaries.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raaji'uun! Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raaji'uun!! Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raaji'uun!!!

Dear brothers and sisters! It is with sadness that I announce the death of our dear Shaykh, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ibrahim Bamba from the city of Kano, in Nigeria, who passed away on Friday 7th of January 2022. Shaykh was born in 1940, which means he was 82 years old.

He was originally from Ghana but settle in Nigeria after graduating with a BA from the Islamic University of Madinah. He taught at the Bayero University Kano (BUK), where he also attained his Phd. He would deliver classes and sermons at the university's Mosque since 1991. After that, he resigned from the university to focus on Da'awah and teaching in the traditional way. He inaugurated the Darul Hadith.

The Shaykh (rahimahullah) had a passion for Hadiths and their chains to the extend that he was nicknamed "قال حدثنا - Qala Haddathana" (ie It was narrated to us by ...) which, for those who know is the trademark of the people of Hadith.

The last class he delivered was the 100th sitting on the book Sharhus-Sunnah of Imam Al-Baghawi (whoever knows this book can easily make the connection with the nickname).

Subhanallah, during that last sitting, the Shaykh said:

"In Shaa Allah, next week we are going to take a break." (And you can hear the students telling him that is the 100th sitting).

He was a thorn on the necks of the enemies of truth. In 1986, he became well know for a debate he had with a deviant who came to Nigeria from Sudan, claiming that the Northen Nigeria authorities, it's people and scholars where kuffars (disbelievers), and the people had to accept Islam again, fight their government or make Hijrah to another land.

Shaykh Ahmad leaves 3 wifes, around 30 children and a countless amount of students.

His funeral prayer was attended by a very large number of people from different places, from them, the likes of Shaykh Dr. Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemu, also a Phd graduate from the Islamic University of Madinah, expert in Hadith and Tafsir, a mountain in and off himself حفظه الله.

Imam Al-Hasan reported that: Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him said:

“The death of a scholar is a great loss that cannot be replaced for as long as the day and night alternate.” [Shu’ab al-Iman, 1590]

May Allah have mercy on those who passed away from our scholars, from wherever they may be. And may Allah preserve those who are alive and allow us to benefit from them, from wherever they may be. Ameen.

All praises and thanks are due to Allah alone, Lord of the worlds. May the peace, blessings and salutations of Allah be upon our noble Messenger, Muhammad, and upon his family, his Companions and his true and sincere followers.

Murtadha Muhammad Gusau is the Chief Imam of Nagazi-Uvete Jumu’ah and the late Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Okene’s Mosques, Okene, Kogi State, Nigeria.

This Jumu’ah Khutbah (Friday sermon) was prepared for delivery today, Friday, Jumadah Al-Thani 11th, 1443 A.H. (January 14, 2022).

Politics / The Discrepancy In Reno’s Passport Stamps, By Natasha Akpoti by binoosmart(m): 6:45pm On Oct 14, 2021
Dear Reno Omokri,

I couldn’t help but laugh hard at your post which reeks of selective dementia, deceit and misogynistic prejudice.

You published your passport page with “selected” immigration stamps as “receipt” to alibi your absence at the State Banquet organized in honor of President Uhuru Kenyatta where I affirm that you Reno, made flirtatious advances which I turned down.

Let’s analyze your “receipts” as evidence.

Immigration officers can chip in expertise.

Facts to Note:

1. Nigerian immigration stamps Seen on Departure (SOD) when you leave the country, and

2. Nigeria immigration stamps Seen on Arrival (SOA) when you return to the country.

3. The green stamp has an arrow or plane either pointing into the stamp or outward to depict outbound or inbound passage.

Now, a critical look at your stamps and basing them on your acclaimed narration of “having traveled to the USA on the 28th of April 2014 and RETURNED to Nigeria on the 23rd June 2014; shows great inconsistency.

Reno, the Nigerian Immigration stamp of the 23rd June 2014 has SOD and stamped you OUT of Nigeria; not into as you claim.

Whereas, the green stamp to the top right reading 23rd July 2014 has SOA and stamped you into Nigeria.

What does this mean:

That you Reno were in Nigeria during Kenyatta’s visit, attended the Banquet and traveled on the 23rd of June which is a month and two weeks AFTER the event; and returned to the country on 23rd July 2014.

However, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t have entered the USA on the 28th April 2014; but it could have a short day or two trip and returned to Nigeria before the 4th May in time to attend the Banquet.

As at this point dear Reno, you are yet to prove your date of return from your 28 April 2014 USA travel. This probably because Nigerians will figure your lie and know that you were in Nigeria at the questioned moment.

You see, time doesn’t move backwards, hence, you couldn’t have been stamped leaving Nigeria on the 23rd June 2014 and arriving the USA 28th April 2014. Impossible.

This proves my dear Reno that you lied in your publications about your absence; just like how you lied about not making a pass at me at the State Banquet.

For all it’s worth, Nigerians aren’t as gullible as you think. You have over the years been an expert in the fabrication of lies and manipulation of truth which honestly stands tall in depicting the despicable nature of your character.

I rest my case and l leave the good public to decipher the irregularities contained within your stamps.

Yours Truly,

Natasha H. Akpoti

Crime / Hotel Manager And 3 Others Murdered In Kogi State By Vigilante Group by binoosmart(m): 4:30pm On Jul 24, 2021
Trigger happy men of the vigilante group in Adavi local government area of Kogi State have gunned down two young clubbers over ban on night club activities.

Sources told Ebira Reporters that the vigilante men in a show of force raided Hollywood Hotel on Friday night where a night club was reportedly ongoing, and a clash with the clubbers escalated into shooting three youths including the hotel manager whose names have not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Two of the clubbers reportedly died while one escaped by the whiskers and receiving treatment in the hospital. The ugly incident has thrown Ogaminana, headquarter of the local government in confusion as there are reports of threats of revenge by the bereaved families.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Local Government, Joseph Salami in a statement said “the Vigilante Group were on their usual night patrol and working according to the laid down rules by the Local Government Authority on the ban of nightclub activities within her domain.

“The clash led to the loss of two(2) lives, an officer of the Vigilante Group sustaining an injury, and their vehicle was destroyed.” Salami in the statement also advised the bereaved families and youths not to take laws into their hands.

The Council Boss prayed for the departed souls, comforted the families of the deceased for the loss of their children, and advised every parent and youth not to take the law into their hands. He urged every parent to caution their children not to take the law into their hands.

“First, we had placed a ban on nightclub activities but as it is expected of us, we will take a critical look at the issue, investigate the genesis of it, and make sure whoever is involved is brought to book.

“As we all know, nobody is above the law, therefore, no stone shall be left unturned in the course of our investigation. There’s no cause for alarm,” he added.

Religion / Is Eating Of Pig Meat (pork) Prohibited In Christianity? by binoosmart(m): 4:49pm On Jul 11, 2021
I asked my C.R.S teacher this question, back in 2011, when I was still in secondary school and he could not give me a meaningful answer, all he could say was that, pig is a meat created by God to be useful to human being, and purposely for our consumption.
So, it's not a sin if we consume pork.

I have seen my Muslim friends always distancing their selves from eating pork, dog etc.

So in my quest to know what I can eat and I can't eat as a Christian I came across a Muslim that said it was written in the bible that we are forbidden from eating pig meat among other meats.

He made reference to Leviticus Chapter 11, from start to finish where I learnt a lot on the kind of meat we can eat and cannot eat.

Pig was mentioned in this book specifically verse 7 - 8 (see quote below)

Verse 7. The pig has evenly split hooves but does not chew the cud, so it is unclean.

Verse 8. You may not eat the meat of these animals or even touch their carcasses. They are ceremonially unclean for you.

Please, my brothers and sisters in Christ, Help Me Out Here...

Thanks in Advance.
