Apple has been awarded patent technology for an iPhone that self-heals and self-cleans itself. Filed with the US Patent and Trademark office back in July 2014, the Automated Maintenance of an Electronic Device patent describes a

dead pixels.

It can also run other diagnostics while you sleep, like testing the camera, as well as checking on the handset's components to make sure your phone is able to connect to
the internet properly, make calls and send texts.

And while the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are water-resistant for up to an hour if immersed in water, Apple's patent also describes a way of getting water out of speakers if your
handset does take a dunk by accident.

The tech would wait until you take your iPhone somewhere loud, like a concert, and then play out a special tone that would help to clear water in the speakers.

Of course, there's no guarantee any of this will end up in future iPhones (it's too late for the iPhone 7), and
it's not the first self-healing tech Apple has patented.

The folks in Dubai seem to love their tennis courts. In 2005, the world's highest tennis court was built atop the 1,000-foot-tall Burj al Arab Hotel . And now, the city may venture beneath the sea with the world's first underwater tennis court.

Earlier this year, Polish architect Krystztof Kotala, Founder of 8+8 Concept Studio, proposed to build an underwater complex situated offshore in the Persian Gulf, between the Burj al Arab and the Palm Jumeirah islands in the United Arab Emirates. The proposed structure will house seven courts, each with rooftop coral reef designed to build an illusion of a natural atoll.

While the innovative idea drew much interest from potential spectators, it also raised many technical concerns for engineers and developers. Sara Fray, Director of Engineering and Technical Services at the Institution of Structural Engineers in London, reportedly pointed out that the transparent ceiling would
require a continuous pane of glass measuring at least 108 feet-wide and weigh "possibly a hundred tons" to accommodate the court and spectators.

Games on Facebook would still use Flash, it

Daniel Baulig, a front-end developer at
Facebook, said the switch to HTML5 had
helped the firm speed up the development
of its video-handling system. HTML is the basic computer language underpinning the web.

In addition, he said, the HTML5 video
player worked much better with
accessibility tools such as screen readers

well.

Mr Baulig said it introduced the HTML5
player a while ago for a small number of
Facebook members who kept their web

at once with HTML5 because testing

Troubled Japanese conglomerate Toshiba
has said it will report a record 550bn yen
($4.5bn) annual loss and cut 6,800 jobs as
it carries out a restructuring.

The company, whose activities range from
laptops to TVs to nuclear energy, is shedding the jobs in its consumer electronics division.

News of the predicted losses sent shares in
Toshiba down by nearly 10%.

The restructuring comes after Toshiba admitted earlier this year that it had overstated profits for six years.

The scandal led to the resignation of Toshiba's president and vice-president.

As part of its restructuring, Toshiba will sell
its TV and washing machine manufacturing plant in Indonesia to Hong Kong-based TV maker Skyworth for about 3bn yen. It is also looking for investors for its healthcare business.

The 6,800 job cuts will go in its Lifestyle
division, essentially its consumer electronics business, andToshiba said the cuts would be made by March 2016.

A number of jobs will be lost by offering
early retirement to those employed in
Japan.

Toshiba, which was founded in 1875 and
launched the world's first mass-market
laptop in 1985, currently employs almost
200,000 people.

Its shares have lost about 40% of its value
since news of the profit overstatement
began to emerge in April.

Some of Toshiba's problems go back to the
tsunami which hit Japan in 2011.

This struck the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear
power plant, which it operates and is decommissioning with Hitachi and other
companies.

Toshiba has not yet fully calculated the
impact of the nuclear disaster on its books.

What this sounds like is that the screen will roll around the top - which could either mean an alternative to the side curves of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, or one that goes all the way over the top to create a whole new screen.

Article continues below Banana Phone Either way it will be a significant departure from last year's LG G Flex 2 if it comes to pass, as that phone had a slight flex in the screen and chassis.

Unlike the more famous Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, which curves the left and right of the screen at the sides, LG's G Flex 2 curves in the in the centre of the device so that the whole phone is a very gentle crescent shape.

PhoneArena earlier reported that we aren't
expecting a new G Flex next year - suggesting that this new leak could be LG's new curved display form-factor.

It's unlikely LG will confirm or deny anything this side of Christmas now (the company wants you to buy its current phones, after all), but here's hoping we learn more at CES 2016 in January.
