"Acid rain" is a popular term referring to the deposition of wet (rain, snow, sleet, fog and cloudwater, dew) and dry (acidifying particles and gases) acidic components. A more accurate term is “acid deposition”. Distilled water, once carbon dioxide is removed, has a neutral pH of 7. Liquids with a pH less than 7 are acidic, and those with a pH greater than 7 are bases. “Clean” or unpolluted rain has a slightly acidic pH of about 5.2, because carbon dioxide and water in the air react together to form carbonic acid, a weak acid (pH 5.6 in distilled water), but unpolluted rain also contains other chemicals.[1] H2O (l) + CO2 (g) → H2CO3 (aq) Carbonic acid then can ionize in water forming low concentrations of hydronium and carbonate ions: 2 H2O (l) + H2CO3 (aq) CO32− (aq) + 2 H3O+ (aq) Acid deposition as an environmental issue would include additional acids to H2CO3. Potential problem areas in the future Places like much of Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand), Western South Africa (the country), Southern India and Sri Lanka and even West Africa (countries like Ghana, Togo and Nigeria) could all be prone to acidic rainfall in the future. Dear ex, I loved you truly, never cheated and gave you freedom such as i have but you misused it.I had unconditional love for you to the extent i personally forgave you your future sins against me yet you were ungrateful. In my own little way made sure you had the best of things but to say 'thanks' is no issue with you. We ended it on a platter of lets be just friends but you wanted more selfishly. My only regret is that i missed out on a lot of other beautifully intelligent ladies thinking you were all in all. Now, you want back cos i don hammer big-time. shame on you! yours unsincerely biozy |

Anambra Poll: Soludo Loses Again December 16, 2009 14:50 (13 minutes ago), 63 views By FELIX NNAMDI/Abuja For the second time in less than two weeks, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, has asked the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo, to stop parading himself as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 6 February, 2010 governorship election in Anambra State. Delivering ruling this morning, the Appeal Court ruled that Prof. Soludo was not validly nominated by the party and therefore quashed his nomination. Justice Mary Odili of the appelate court had on Friday, 4 December granted a preliminary injunction ordering Soludo to stop parading himself as the PDP governorship candidate for the Anambra election. The injunction was sought by three PDP governorship aspirants, Mr. Valentine Ozoigbo, Nkoli Imo and Ferdinand Okoye who felt embittered by the way and manner Soludo emerged as the PDP governorship candidate. They asked the court to quash the election of Soludo on grounds that his nomination did not follow the provisions of the party. Justice Danlami Senchi of the Abuja High Court had earlier ruled in favour of Soludo when the three governorship aspirants approached the court to nullify the election of the PDP flagbearer. They went to the appeal court and sought an interim injunction to restrain Soludo from parading himself as the candidate of the PDP. The appeal granted them an interim injunction and this made Soludo and the PDP to approach the Supreme Court to quash the ruling of the appellate court. The apex court declined this and referred the matter back to the appeal court which fixed ruling for today. The Supreme Court is expected to give its ruling on Soludo’s candidacy tomorrow. |
