Sports / Should Perpetua Nkwocha Retire From The Super Falcons? by bishoprccg(m): 10:21pm On Nov 01, 2010
I just finished watching the sup falcons demolish the malians and one player that impressed me was pepertua nkwocha. she was a constant torn in the flesh of the malians, but unfortunately she has dropped a hint that this is going to be her last AWC Tournament. i still believe she has more to offer the team, what do you think?

Nigeria is a country blessed with lots of talented footballers.
Unfortunately, when these players have served their fatherland, they are quickly forgotten and allowed to rot away in strange lands.

Politics / The Police And Unresolved Murder Cases In Nigeria by bishoprccg(m): 5:10pm On Aug 19, 2010
The list of murder and assassinated victims in Nigeria seems to be swelling on a daily basis with the police seeming lost.
I wonder weather its a case of conspiracy or outright lousiness.
Check the list:

dele gwa
dipo dina
bola ige
moshood abiola
Engineer Funso Williams
Dr. Ayo Daramola
Kehinde Fasubaa
Chukwuma Ogbueli
Odunayo Olagbaju,
Pa Alfred Rewane
Chiefs Dikibo
Harry Marshal
Suliat Adedeji
Kudirat Abiola
Tunde Oladepo
Omololu Falobi
Godwin Agbroko
Abayomi Ogundeji
Bayo Ohu
Edo Sule Ugbagwu

As can be seen, the list include journalist, politician, civil servant and business me.
The annoying part of the whole saga, is that the police have stopped investigating some of these cases and it is as good as dead and buried.
This is a sharp departure from what is obtainable in other countries, where they value the lifes of their citizens.
In Nigeria, the life of the citizen is not worth a penny.
Only God will judge the killers of these victims
shame on the police

Sports / Nigerian Coaches And Corruption by bishoprccg(m): 11:31pm On Jul 26, 2010
It has been alleged and confirmed that Nigeria Football coaches have formed the habits of collecting bribe from players before including them in age group teams like U-17, U-20 and U-23.
The issue has even crept into football teams, where coaches demand bribe before players can be featured in matches, espercially if the club is involved in continental matches.
It is even alleged that these coaches have middle men/errand boys who arrange these deals on their behalf, for fear of been exposed.
We are talking of amounts ranging fromN100,000 to N500,000 depending on what is at stake.
When the cabal was reigning in the then Super Eagles in the early 90's, there was serious allegations that majority of the players dropped prior to USA 94 refused to part with bribe.
With these type of mind set, what do you think is the fate of the average Nigerian coach?
Can they be trusted for higher responsibilities?
Are you are footballer who has been made to go through these harrowing experience?
Do you know of anyone who has been denied an opportunity to utilize his/her potential due to non compliance of giving bribe?
Why not share it and lets join hands to eradicate Nigerian football of these bad eggs.

Sports / Nff Appoints Samson Siasia As New Super Eagles! by bishoprccg(m): 11:43am On Jul 24, 2010
Samson Siasia has been provisionally appointed as the new Super Eagles coach after Lars Lagerback failed to pen down a new deal with the Nigeria Football Federarion.
NFF president- Aminu Maigari was quoted extensively by Nigeria local media as saying that the Swede had turned down the offer of a new deal and former striker Samson Siasia had been offered the job.
This brings to an end continous media speculation as to who will lead the re-branded Super Eagles during the African Nations Cup qualifiers billed to commence in September.
Samson Siasia who is presently with Heartland of Owerri, is expected to sign a formal contract next week, before been presented to the media.

Sports / The Falconets On The Verge Of History by bishoprccg(m): 9:45am On Jul 23, 2010
The U-20 Female national team of Nigeria- The Falconets will on Sunday aim to re-write history book and carve their name in gold as they tackle the U-20 Female national team from USA in Augsburg, Germany.

This encounter have been described in most media as explosive, as the Americans won the trophy in 2008.
If the Nigeria team beat the USA, they will become the first African team to reach the Semi-final of the U-20 Womens World Cup.

They would also become the first team to stop the Americans from reaching the semi finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the competition started in Canada eight years ago.
The Falconets have the potential to do just that, all they need is self-belief.

Business / Be Ready For That Opportunity! by bishoprccg(m): 11:53am On Jul 22, 2010
The secret of success is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.
There would always be opportunities that will come, but the question we must honestly ask ourselves, is this: “Are we ready for that golden opportunity”?
Some opportunity may come in form of challenges, and we all know that many folks shy away from challenges.
Some individual may have just one opportunity to turn their destiny around.
How then can we utilize opportunities that come our way?

Be prepared for Opportunities
Some individuals are presented with opportunities on a platter of gold, but they cannot discern it.
I once had an uncle who worked in an oil Firm for close to eight years.
While he was there, he was earning more than a thousand dollars monthly ($1000) as salary.
Unfortunately for him, he was not prepared for the opportunity he had.
In 2008, he fell a victim to downsizing of the oil firm, and became jobless.
He neither had a building of his own, nor did he have any form of investment to fall on.
He was not prepared for what had hit him, because he failed to tap into the opportunity he had.

Use that opportunity
To succeed in life, you must not only see an opportunity, but use it.
Opportunities can be compared to a door key.
As long as we do not use the key to open any door, the key will remain useless.

There was this young actress who went to visit an uncle in the office for some personal issues.
While there, she had a chance encounter with a movie director, who jokingly asked her if she would be interested in a role in his upcoming movie.
She had a flair for acting and did not hesitate to give an answer.
She was invited to auditioning and became the lead character in the movie.
That single opportunity transformed her life and career!
She not only saw an opportunity, but used it fully to her advantage.
Wait patiently for that opportunity
Patience is a virtue which so many individual are not prepared to cultivate. So many are hasty to attain stardom, and ultimately miss the opportunity to become what God have destined them to become.
Emmanuel Amuneke, the most celebrated Nigerian soccer player, possessed this virtue in abundance.
At the 1994 African Nations Cup held in the beautiful country of Tunisia, he never got to play any of the group matches.
The Nigerian Coach- Clemens Westerhof knew what he was doing, and Emmanuel Amuneke was not in haste to jump into the field. He waited patiently for the opportunity to shine.
At last the opportunity came in the final against a young Chipolopolo of Zambia, and Emmanuel Amuneke was introduced into the game as a joker.
He ended up scoring the two clinical goals that clinched gold for Nigeria. His patience had finally paid off and the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) named him the African Footballer for the year 1994.
He patiently waited another two years and once again emerged the hero of the Nigerian soccer team to Atlanta Olympics game, when he scored the winning goal in Nigeria 2-1 victory over Argentina in the final. He came in as a substitute with few minutes left in the match and his exploits earned him fame and fortune world wide.
You see, you never know when the door of opportunity is going to open wide. For some, the big break can come early in life and for others later on. But for all of those who become successful, there is one key similarity: They were ready. And for every one of those who were ready to wait for their time, the golden opportunity eventually came.
So, the principle for us is: Be patient!

Never let that opportunity to slip away
There are thousands of individuals who patiently wait for the opportunity of a lifetime to shine, and when the big break come their way, they throw it away with their own hands!
The Nigeria National Football team the Super Eagles went to the 2002 World Cup in Korea Japan and performed badly in their first two matches, losing 1-0 to Argentina, and 2-1 to Sweden.
Nigeria had a certain Ike Shorunmu in goal for the first two matches, and when the third and final match against England came calling, the then Super Eagles coach- Chief Adegboye Onigbinde decided to make a string of changes, and on came Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama who was the only home based player in the team
He made a world class save off a well taken shot from Paul Scholes of England to cap a brilliant outing.
The match eventually ended 0-0, and Vincent Enyeama cemented his place as Nigeria’s Number one choice goal keeper.
He never allowed that single opportunity to shine at the world stage slip throw through his fingers. He grabbed it with both hands.
In concluding, it must be noted that some may have just one opportunity in a lifetime; others may have three opportunities while some may have up to ten opportunities to shine.
We must not allow any opportunity to go underutilized, because it may be the only opportunity we may ever be presented with.
Be prepared, be patient and never allow that opportunity slip away!

Religion / I Am A Success Not A Failure by bishoprccg(m): 6:53pm On Jul 21, 2010
Lots of folks always see failure in all they do. The reverse should be the case as believers. We must have a success mentality, and uproot every seed of failure. Never believe what others may say about that venture you are about to go into. Hold firmly to God’s unchanging word, which contains the promises of success.

There are countless stories of great individuals who had failed on numerous occasions, but they never allowed failure, which can be interpreted as a temporary set back, to stop them from achieving their set goal and destiny in life.
One of the greatest scientists that ever lived: Michael Faraday was asked a question about the secret of his success in life.
He said: “I have failed several times in my attempt to discover the theory behind Electromagnetic induction, but each failed attempt took me closer to the answer I was looking for”

In the pursuit of life, we may fail once, twice or thrice depending on how determined we are, but we are not failure, as long as we pick up the pieces and start all over again.
Michael Eisner made a funny remark about failure: "Failing is good as long as it doesn't become a habit".
We should develop that success mentality and see failure as a stepping stone to our success.
Daily we must wake up and confess boldly without fear: “I am a success not a failure”

Sports / The Falconets Are Good For Gold by bishoprccg(m): 7:17pm On Jul 20, 2010
Is there anything wrong in been a woman?
Why do the boys get $3000 per win and the girls get $500 for a win?
Why can't the NFF motivate the girls the same way they are motivating the boys?
These questions came to my mind when i read how the Falconets were given $500 for their win against Japan in the ongoing U-20 Women's World Cup.
They have done what the Super Eagles could not do- Win a match in a World Cup!
Its fair that they be adequately rewarded for their excellent performance.
The desire, passion and commitment of the girls can take them up to the finals like some pundits are predicting.
They are even good for Gold!
This is wishing the girls all the best of luck

Sports / New Super Eagles: Total Overhaul Or Partial Overhaul? by bishoprccg(m): 3:58pm On Jul 11, 2010
With the recent changes in the NFF and the disbandment of the Super Eagles, the question on every bodies lips, is: Should the team be totally overhauled or partially overhauled?
As regard totally overhauling the team, some football analyst suggest that it may have some demerit because some of the players in the present team are still relevant.
Relevant player: Osaze Odemwegie, Vincent Enyeama, Chinedu Ogbuke, Dele Adeleye, Luqman Haruna, Brown Ideye, Kalu Uche.
As for the rest players, better replacement can be found for them.
The issue of overhauling the team must be completed before the African Cup of Nations in 2012.

Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Colombia Friendly (1 - 1) by bishoprccg(m): 10:42pm On May 29, 2010
Playing the match behind close doors or not is not the issue.
The question we should be asking ourself is this: Do we know our 23 man squad yet?
Is the colombia match going to bring about the selection of the 23 man list?
Do we have defenders who can stop messi, higuan, milito, tevez, angel, ?
Do we have attackers who can score goals at ease?
Are we still depending on tired Kanu, lathegic Aiyegbeni, Misfiring Martins and Calamity Yobo to inspire us to victory come June 12?
The answer is a tough one.
Only Lagerback and his crew can answer that.
Wish the team the best of luck anyway.

Sports / Spain Are Overwhelming Favorite To Lift Fifa World Cup Trophy by bishoprccg(m): 11:55pm On May 20, 2010
The Spanish National team popularly called-La Furia Roja are a very tactically disciplined side with a solid technical crew led by Coach Vicente Del Bosque. Though they have never won the FIFA World Cup is hot favorite to lift the 18 Carat Gold trophy for the first time on Africa soil.
Spain has plenty of stars like Fernando Torres, David Villa, David Silva, Cesc Fabregas and one wonders what line up they may field in South Africa come the World Cup.
Whatever way you look at it, they remain No1 as far as FIFA ranking is concerned and they can repeat that dominance when hostilities begin on June 11th.
Italy, England, Germany and Brazil are also potential candidate, but my heart goes to Spain

Sports / 7 Players To Be Dropped From Super Eagles Squad by bishoprccg(m): 11:49am On May 14, 2010
A close look at the list released by Lars Lagerback shows a mix of youth and talent.

Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israel), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda, Israel), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petah Tikva, Israel), and Bassey Akpan (Bayelsa United, Nigeria)

Defenders: Taye Taiwo (Olympique Marseille, France), Elderson Echiejile (Rennes, France), Chidi Odiah (CSKA Moscow, Russia), Onyekachi Apam (OG Nice, France), Joseph Yobo (Everton, England), Daniel Shittu (Bolton Wanderers, England), Ayodele Adeleye (Sparta Rotterdam, Netherlands), Rabiu Afolabi (SV Salzburg, Austria) and Terna Suswan (Lobi Stars, Nigeria)

Midfielders/Forwards: Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Victor Anichebe (Everton, England), Chinedu Obasi (TSG Hoffenheim, Germany), Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka (Portsmouth, England), Obafemi Martins (Wolfsburg, Germany), Brown Ideye (FC Sochaux, France), Peter Utaka (Odense Boldklub, Denmark), Ikechukwu Uche (Real Zaragoza, Spain), Obinna Nsofor (Malaga, Spain), Kalu Uche (Almeria, Spain), Dickson Etuhu (Fulham, England), Mikel Obi (Chelsea, England), Sani Kaita (Alaniya, Russia), Haruna Lukman (AS Monaco, France), Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine), Osaze Odemwingie (Lokomotiv Moscow, Russia)

Unfortunately, only 23 players will go to the World Cup.
Which of these 30 players will be dropped?
A big question you will say, but below are the 7 players likely to be dropped:

1. Bassey Akpan(Bayelsa United) He stands no chance due to his lack of experience compared to the other three more accomplished Goalkeepers.

2. Brown Ideye(FC Sochaux, France)- He lack the experience to feature in at the big stage. He goal rate is also not convincing.

3.John Utaka- Lack of playing time at portsmouth has taken a toll on the once enterprising forward. Injuries has not also helped his course.

4. Rabiu Afolabi

5.Sani Kaita- Just too clumsy in defensive midfield

6. Danny Shittu- May have played his heart out at Angola 2010, but he has not played for Wolves all season.

7. Haruna Lukman- Stand no chance against the more accomplished midfielders. Could not hold his own at the U-20 World Cup and easily fades away during the big occasion

Last minute changes may occur and its up to the coach to make the final list.
June 1st is the D-day when the list will be unveiled

Foreign Affairs / Breaking News: Gordon Brown Loses In British Election by bishoprccg(m): 9:17am On May 07, 2010
British prime minister- Gordon Brown has lost out in the British election even as the poll closed yesterday.
It is a paradigm shift in British politics, as the Labour party has lost its mandate to power.
Conservative Party leader David Cameron said it was "clear that the Labour government has lost its mandate to govern this country," as exit-poll predictions put his party on course to win more seats than it had for 80 years.
Exit polls suggest the Conservatives are on pace to win 305 seats -- though this would be 21 short of a majority in the 650-seat House of Commons.
It is not clear yet, what Gordon Brown next move will be.

I wish to state here, that the list is not official.
It is my personal compilation based on the present situation on ground.
Lagerback may likely. I use the word likely, because there may be three or four changes.
He may likely use a bulk of the nations cup squad to prosecute the WC.
As for the home based players, i believe they may not be given a chance, unless the NFF insist that
one of them should be selected.
Again the question we must ask ourself, is : Are the home based players better than the foreign based?
Again, the list of 23 players is not officially out.
Suggestions as to who does not deserve to be in the final 23, and who deserve to be there are welcome
thanks

The Home Eagles triumphed over their Stallions of Burkina Faso Counterpart in the highly entertaining Semi final of the W.A.F.U Cup played at the M.K.O Abiola stadium today.
After normal regulation time, the game was still tied at 0-0 and it had to go to extra time.
Nigeria had her lucky break with 6 minutes into the 2nd half of the extra time when the only goal of the match was scored.
The same Burkinabe were disgraced 4-0 by the black stars of Ghana in a group match some days ago.
With this result, Nigeria has qualified for the Final billed for this week Sunday.
Congratulations to Dan Amokachi and his gallant boys.
I hope Lagerback can find one or two players from this squad.
