How do I get my parents to change? I just finished my nysc and things have not been easy for me. My parents are very very controlling and honestly I don't even know who I am anymore. I am always trying to be who they want me to be but deep down it's not who I am.

My parents force me to wear big clothes. I can't even wear trousers in my fathers house. It must be skirt and not any skirt, it must be long to reach my ankle. When I was an undergraduate, I use to wear anything I liked in school and I was free but getting home, I feel like I'm living in bondage.

Now what brought me here is that I want to start living with a friend because where she stays is central and lot of jobs around there but my parents have blatantly refused me living with her. How do I convince them to let me? And also how do I convince them to let me dress the way I want mind u I'm very decent but I just like trousers because it fits me a lot. I'm not moving there because of unnecessary freedom but because it is very central. Staying in this house has been depressing since I finished service. I am 23 yrs old

It takes wisdom for you to understand the older generation.

You should never EVER go to your parents with what you want to do.... THEY WILL NEVER ACCEPT BECAUSE TO THEM WHAT WE CALL FREEDOM IS REBELLION OR SIN OR WORLDLY.

HERE IS WHAT TO DO:

1) get a job(even if you have to "create" it)... yes, to your parents you are still a child until you get a job... if you can, get a job in another state... so they would have no choice than to let you go.

2) start a business... yes, you need to consider having your own cash so that they can respect you because you can now take care of yourself. MONEY IS A VOICE... a LOUD ONE.

3) OBEY EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU..... as long as you have a solid plan to leave the house in 3-6 months... BECOME THE EXACT IMAGE OF ALL THEIR VALUES.... it will help you in future because you will leave the house with a BLESSING.

4) Remember, you will be a parent one day and what your children will call FREEDOM will be lower than your own current standards... so be careful how you treat your parents cos KARMA is not friendly.

5) Let your friend come and visit you and while she is in your house, let her ask your parents BIBLE QUESTIONS OR PARENTAL GUIDANCE QUESTIONS. It will change your parents' perception about her... SEE, you are under their roof... you just have to be loyal and stop thinking your way is the right way always... cut them some slack. By the time your friend visits twice or thrice... they will allow you go to her place next time.


Things should be done with simple tact and wisdom. Your parents love you but are from a previous OLDSCHOOL generation... soon you will marry and be OLD SCHOOL and the next generation may appear queer to you... you need to understand that, so you don't repeat the stiffness of your parents.

In February this, I bought this bus from an uncle at a price that was most favourable to me, because he needed some money so badly and also the driver that collected it on hire purchase always had one or two stories to give him. He himself actually bought it as foreign used in one of these ember months last year. All necessary documents on the bus were collected too.

Fast forward, after buying it from him in February, I also gave it on hire purchase and same problem he had with his own driver continued with me. The bus is in a very good condition with almost no problem apart from back light and little body work, to the extent that any one that sees it in the area always beg me not to sell it. They also add that I should not give it to any driver again, but be driving it myself. I never knew how to drive before, but I have used it to learn how to drive in the last one week. In my work, it is one week on, one week off. With this work arrangement at my work, people have advised that I should be using it to work in the week am at home.

This bus is a hotcake now in Lagos, cos its price has gone up since total restriction was restricted (ranging between 900k and 1.1m). The lowest price interested buyers have been coming to buy it 650k due to its good condition.

Doing transport with it, I don't think I can do that. So people, what decision do u think I can take on it that is the best. Pls I await ur advice o.

I'm writing this piece with due permission because both parties involved are on nairaland. My friend & his wife had a small issue that made them to keep malice for more than a week. Then last Friday he went to work & she sent him a text message that read "I am going with our son, whenever you are calm & settled, come for us, the key is under the footmat in front of the door" to his greatest surprise he came back home later in the evening & didn't meet her. He didn't call her, next day Saturday no communication whatsoever from them, Sunday which was yesterday same & today too no communication. Everyone adviced him not call her since he didn't send her out of the house neither has he ever maltreated her. Maybe she's trying to show him that whatever happens she has a place to go. I think her mother is suppose to ask her why she came home or better still contact the husband to know why her daughter came back but nobody from her family contacted him. He has packed all her things together in the house so that anytime she wants to come & pack, its fine by him & if she comes back its still fine by him. What is your advice or take on this? They really live each other that they can die for each other but right now I don't know what the devil is doing.
