This will only ever remain an artists impression.

The only way Nigeria can be seen as anything else other than a corrupt bucket of filth is through the eyes of a graphic artist and the use of Photoshop undecided undecided undecided

Why would the average Nigerian be proud of a tower block where only the rich, corrupt fat cats could ever dream of living?

How about spending the money on homes and hospitals for the poor?

I know it's difficult for you, but try and hide your ignorance, especially if you haven't visited the site.

These are examples of the developments happening all around Naijia, not what all of them look like. If you visit the site, you will notice they have a news section where there are plenty of articles for you, and many others who want to read about the many low income housing estates popping up everywhere, for those who need housing.

Visit the Nigerian Development & Infrastructural News thread to read about the subject you're talking about.

I'm not the creator of this site, but I do contribute, and the Nigerian section needs more Nigerians to put in our information, photos, etc, So if you're interested JOIN!

Kobojunkie:
Does development really have to be about SKYSCRAPERS??
No, not at all. If you visit the website, you will see that they have dedicated sections for infrastructure, smaller scale projects, the economy, and many more sections for information.

This site is also a good place to have a good debate, without someone calling you names, or going off topic. Here's an example of a great debate taking place right now on the site:

The development of Nigeria is a very interesting subject, and there is a place where it is constantly updated, but this place needs our help. This site called SkyscraperCity has much information about the development of Nigeria, along with plans for metropolises, and infrastructure that many Nigerians don't know is taking place. Visit the site, and join if you're interested in this subject, or have photos, information, or anything to add. Thanks.

Example of the information found on the site:

Residential Building | Ikoyi, Lagos | Propsed

Jabi Lakefront Development | Abuja | Approved

Please, the site needs many more Nigerians (especially ones who live in Naija) to contribute, and learn more about the development of our great nation. There is much more information here: cool

PoliticsRe: Why Can't Nigeria's Oil Revenue Be Paid Out To Citizens? by blackspade(m): 11:20pm On Oct 30, 2008
Nigeria should leave O.P.E.C. in my opinion. They're attempting to make the price of crude skyrocket by cutting production, but as the economy slows, the price won't go up, because demand slows. Nigeria should expand on how much crude we produce a year, because the price of crude isn't going to reach $147 a barrel for a long time, especially with countries like Iraq, Brazil, and Russia increasing their output, while we're in O.P.E.C. cutting down our production, thinking prices will go up. undecided

I say they increase production to at least 5,000,000bpd, because the price of crude isn't going to increase any time soon, we might as well make a greater profit while producing more.
Foreign AffairsRe: War Again In Congo? by blackspade(m): 7:27pm On Oct 30, 2008
I pray for Africa every night, Congo in particular. That country is so disturbed by rebel factions (influenced by tribal tension), and everyone is fighting over their slice of the pie. The government is trying their best, but it seems like outside forces (ie. Rwanda, Uganda) seem to think they have the right to meddle in Congolese affairs, while at the same time sending their troops in to steal their natural resources. angry

Foreign AffairsRe: Overweight South Africa! by blackspade(m): 7:08am On Oct 30, 2008
South Africa does have a developing problem with obesity. I think with the large expansion of cheap fast food throughout the country, the government needs to step in, and take measures on what type of products they use in the foods, like they do here in California (ie. ban trans fatty oils).

how many driving lanes are there?

driving on the free way scare the smoke out of me grin
Thanks. wink

On the freeways here, the number of lanes varies from 10 (5 in each direction) up to 16 (8 in each direction) shocked

Here, the freeways can be kind of intimidating (especially with all the bad drivers), but once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

TravelRe: Why Ma Naija People Prefer Staying Abroad: by blackspade(m): 7:17pm On Oct 28, 2008
I love Naija, and still return home twice a year, but the main reason I traveled to America was for a good education, but the quality of life, economic opportunity, safety, and diversity here are reasons why I stay (and have little complaints).

As I said before, I love Naija, and it's my home, but my opinion is that abroad, I have many more options available to me in order to become successful. I intend on returning back to Naija to help my country further develop, but at the same time my family wants me to stay, and apply for citizenship so I can bring them here. undecided

Bottom line is, there's many opportunities outside of Nigeria that can be taken advantage of, that Nigeria just can't offer right now.

CultureRe: Why Aren't There Any Successful Black Nations In The World? by blackspade(m): 9:32pm On Oct 26, 2008
romeo:
Bostwana's population is so tiny, 1.6 million. (diamond)

Cape Verde's population is less than half a million.(

Equitorial Guinea's population is 616,459

Gabon's population is 1,485,832.

these are tiny states
That's not a credible reason to undermine their success. Going by your logic, I guess we can then say Sweden, Norway, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Israel aren't successful, because their populations aren't as big as you'd like them to be? I think not.

The reason why Botswana, and Cape Verde are so successful is because the people in charge know where to put the money. Botswana has a large Diamond industry, and their leaders use that Diamond money to rebuild the country, and help the people, and that's why their H.D.I. (Human Development Index) is so high.

The reason Cape Verde is so successful is also because their leaders are also responsible for maintaining the well being of the country. Another reason why Cape Verde is so successful, and is still growing, is because of it's booming tourism industry, and how the leaders are aggressively promoting the country in Europe, and other areas. Many people predict Cape Verde becoming the next Canary Islands, so watch out for them.

Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon are largely successful because of their vast oil reserves, and Gabon also has a growing eco-tourism industry.

E.G. doesn't have the best leader (because he's a military dictator), and he allows still a large portion of his people to go hungry, but things are improving in that country with a massive national reconstruction effort occuring, with many people being moved from slums into adequate housing, amongst other services.

Gabon's leaders are adequate, but could be better. As I said before, they have large oil reserves (which is in large part why they're so successful), but they are slowly starting to become leaders in tourism. Gabon also has a high H.D.I., and they also have a growing Agricultural industry, with government trying to reach self sufficiency by growing their own crops.

South Africa is also successful, but I didn't mention it in the first place because I thought the obvious needn't have to be said. In about 5 years, I'd add Angola to that list, because the sheer pace of their development is just amazing.
