DavidDylan:
1. Do you still believe in democracy?
Yes, I absolutely believe in democracy, but I also believe in equality. I understand 'the people have spoken', but the proposition itself is seriously flawed, and conflicts with the fundamental rights of the California state constitution.

DavidDylan:
2. Should the term "marriage" be ammended to cover gay couples or expunged completely?
You act as if same-sex marriage is going to automatically void traditional marriage.

To answer your question, I think the term marriage should coordinate with the fundamental rights of human beings in the state of California. If more research had actually went into this proposition, and more red flags were arisen, this would have never been presented on a statewide ballot, especially when there are those who insist on misleading the public.

Someone should create a 'randland' for all these disenfranchised South Africans who feel the need to frequent this forum, only to bash Nigeria and Nigerians. Mpele, Angelheart, etc. . . . . here's a link that will show you how to create your own forum.

DavidDylan:
the problem is a lot of us who glibly "support" gay marriage can't see beyond our noses. Gay couples already have the priviledges and rights they seek - it is not against the law to be gay, it is not against the law to have a partnership with someone of the same sex, it is against the law to discriminate against someone on the basis of sexual orientation . . .

So what else do they want?

I'll tell you - the immediate repeal of the DOMA act of 1996 and the legalisation of the term "marriage" to include gay couples.

It is but one small step, 20 years ago gay folks werent fighting for any rights. 20 years from now those who wish to marry their cats or 5 wives or remain as swing couples will begin  their own "civil rights" campaign.
I think you're starting to get a bit paranoid with that nonsense.

In case you didn't know, gay marriage was legal here for over a year, but with the passing of prop 8, it has now ended. During this time, I haven't noticed anyone taking 'larger steps' or anything having to do with that. This sudden resistance from gays and lesbians just now started with the passage of prop 8.

Again, I see nothing wrong with them wanting to marry --- it's not my position to judge or decide what others should want to do.

I strongly recommend Canada. Mexico is experiencing an extreme spike in crime right now, and you don't want to be there.
Foreign AffairsRe: Proposition 8: Civil Rights Issue? by blackspade(m): 1:31am On Nov 15, 2008
What gays choose to do whether it be marry, adopt, or whatever ----- that does not effect me in one bit. Why should I and others keep them from having the privileges the rest of us get to take advantage of?

I'm very interested in this, in part because I'm about to declare my major in civil engineering next spring. Who can I directly contact to send in my proposal, and what does this project consist of? Major reconstruction of Lagos, or a whole new city?

PoliticsRe: Child Witches Of Nigeria by blackspade(m): 12:50am On Nov 15, 2008
This is horrible. I read about this type of stuff in American Literature, but the last time this happened in America was in the 17th century! Hopefully this is more evidence why education is badly needed in a society, especially amongst these so-called 'preachers' who decide to call innocent children witches.

But, this is not unique to Nigeria. If one were to actually do some research before typing (Angelheart), you would see these types of stories played out in Angola, Kenya, Mocambique, Cameroon, DR Congo, and other countries that have large populations of people practicing indigenous religions.
PoliticsRe: Baby Farms At Enugu State: People Are Wicked by blackspade(m): 12:38am On Nov 15, 2008
This is sickening. If any more of these 'factories' are remaining (which I'm sure of), I hope they are all raided, and everyone who is involved is disciplined severely. These type of things need to be 'stomped out' quickly before they gain momentum, and start becoming widespread. We don't want this becoming the next bad thing Naija is known for.
Foreign AffairsRe: Proposition 8: Civil Rights Issue? by blackspade(m): 12:30am On Nov 15, 2008
Civil Rights issues shouldn't have been brought to voters in the first place. This issue should have went directly to the California State Legislature instead, because even the governor can see the civil rights violations in this.

If the civil rights act was instead put on a national ballot, do you think it would have been passed (in the 1960s)?

Screen all South Africans coming to Nigeria, and make sure to confiscate all their alcoholic beverages at the border.

Funky Boy:
Can I ask why? Australia is one of the safest, most modern  and cleanest countries on earth (apart from the awful snakes, of course)
I know this may sound a bit ignorant, but from the many articles I've read, along with the experiences people of color have been through in Australia, it gives me the notion that racism is prevalent in Australian society. The government seems like they support open discrimination when it comes to immigration (refugees to be exact), when they blatantly discriminated against African refugees awaiting relocation, because of a few bad apples in Brisbane. They decided to decrease the number of African refugees from 70% to 30%, favoring Asian and European refugees no longer in conflict zones.

To sum it up bluntly, I don't really like Australia, but it looks nice. Thanks.

I have relatives in London that live in Tottenham, Peckham, and Woolwich, and I spent a few weeks in Tottenham just this February. Tottenham has too many housing estates for my comfort, but it wasn't a bad experience. The reasons I really like London is because of the vast arrays of architecture it has, and the ethnic diversity the city has. It's a gem.
