Personally, I see nothing wrong in the lock down, since a drive from Ikoyi to the airport would have given the President the opportunity to actually see the streets himself and get a feel for what is going on at ground level.

So it is ok to be locked down in one's car for endless hours because the President wants use the road for 15 mins.   Can you imagine the chaos  - Closing the entire stretch of the road from Eko hotel all the way to the airport. One of main routes of the entire Lagos state.  where the bleep was BRF when this id iot was in town causing untold hardship.  

And the Information Minister thanked GEJ for bringing facebook to Nigeria.  What a bunch of losers.

Agreed, it isn't nice to cause inconvenience without reason, especially if it causes loss of money, business etc to the populace. However, if GEJ wishes to see things for himself, there is no choice but to drive.

The unnecessarily dangerous political situation and our infrastructural backwardness in Nigeria are to blame. If Nigeria was developed, there would be no reason why GEJ couldn't have gone by train instead, for example; he would have been able to see things for himself and roads wouldn't have needed to be closed down.

Beaf is one resilant son of gun in his defense of GEJ but unfortunately he reminds me of the one time Iraqi information minster (Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf) who kept boasting that the Invading American and allied forces would be defeated by the Iraqi army.

In a country where we dont fight wars - what do expect the armies should be doing - atleast they would be able form another lane of extortion from motorists but one thing GEJ doesnt understand it is not the nature of military persons to be used as police officers - that is why you have Military police - it is does not work. An army man is trainned for wars and so on. Please someone tell me where the army is trained to quell riots, Investigate crime or aware of civil laws esp not in Nigeria.
