• Welfare officer decries act, counsels parents


The Oyo State Principal Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Adebayo Salami, has decried the rate at which some callous mothers abandon babies on the streets. This is even as some women, cry daily, visiting both spiritual and herbal homes, in search of solution to their barenness, but to no avail.


Salami came down hard on such mothers when four rescued babies were handed over to him recently, by some good Samaritans.


The recovered babies included a day old, who was found at the entrance of a Motherless Babies Home in Yemetu area of Ibadan, and 12 days old baby boy, found near the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan. Others were, a day old baby abandoned at Idi-Ape and one month old baby found on the premises of the Oyo –West Local Government Area in Oyo metropolis.


[size=16pt]He disclosed that some of the babies were found in the bush, but not after some parts of their bodies had been eaten up by ants.[/size]



He advised women with unwanted pregnancies to seek advice from the social welfare department instead of delivering such babies, only to abandon them in the bush.


Salami also advised members of the public to always bring abandoned babies to their office after recovery. He commended those who rescued abandoned babies and brought them to the social welfare department, adding that the agency was not tired of taking care of b dumped babies.


The officer, however, advised parents to always educate their children, especially, the female ones, on the dangers of unwanted pregnancies. For instance, he stressed the need for parents to teach their children sex education, as according to him, it would help to check unwanted pregnancies.


Meanwhile, Salami has appealed to the police to always give the Social Welfare unit information regarding abandoned babies.

1) My parents are late. lost my mum 1970 and my dad yr2000.

UPDATE, , she called me yesterday night at weds 22nd by 9pm that she is sick and at my office, whereas i was at a frnds house helping him fill online visa application form for united state, he, his wife and son. So i tld her am not aaround and may not come back until morning. She asked where am I, and I tld her am somewhere doing a job for some1. Apparently she wld knw who dt my frnd is st i will be in his home dt late cos ive been going there to assist him and do some jobs for him. She sent me a text tht she said she is sick and i didnt shw any care, I replied dt she supposed to tell her mum not me since she is not ready to do my will.

I just want to let you know you have absolutely no problems besides a breakdown of communication and the inability to work together even after 7 years.

Since i parted ways with the only guy i've ever loved for almost 2 years now,i've not been able to fall in love with someone else,i just can't seem to stop loving him eventhough we don't see or talk,i tried dating months after the split but it didn't go well as i feel nothing for the person and end up calling the person my ex's name on many occassions.i've been okay being single but i realize i wanna get married and i ain't getting younger,i want to fall in love again but i just can't cos whenever i think of it all i see is my ex's face and memories of time shared with him,i really want to love again but i don't know how to get him outta my system.please am hoping to get helpful tips from you,i know some people will say get and stay busy,believe me i've been busy,am not even thinking of getting back with him and am not holding on to the past either,it just happens that he occupied my heart and doesn't want to leave even when i force him.what could be the reason for this?and how do i evict him 4rm my heart? thanks y'all.

Not really. It is not about growing old either . There are women older than Ita Giwa who look a million times better than she does. Regardless of how you try to move the goal-post , your posts indicate that you want us to accept that Ita Giwa is desirable. I disagree with that because I think we are always creating our own warped standards in Nigeria without a recourse to best standards/practices. Doing that can only engender mediocrity.

I am against mediocrity or anything that puts Africa and Africans in the comfort zone when we can do much better.We should be as good as anyone else. Our women are beautiful like others but their uninformed diet, poorer beauty regime and inadequate fitness drive will leave them looking older,more unfit and less attractive than they should in the end.

Better for us to call it as we see it so that young Nigerian women develop good discipline and health habits when young that will see them looking far better than Ita Giwa does at 64 rather than let them feel comfortable with flab with the way we glorify a fatty as a looker. Iman , Stacy Dash, Halle Berry, Naomi Cambell or any other attractive "oldie" could all easily look fat and unattractive without serious and consistent effort sometimes driven by societal challenges and awareness.
