Politics › ‘No Work No Pay’ Kogi Govt. Tells Striking Doctors by Blue3k2(op): 6:25pm On May 05, 2017 |
The Kogi Government on Friday, threatened to terminate the appointment of any of its staff, under its health sector, that participates in the ongoing indefinite strike by doctors in the state.
Mrs Kehinde Lawal, the State’s acting Head of Service, made the threat in a circular she signed in Lokoja on Friday.
According to her, the state government will also adopt the policy of ‘no work no pay’ for any doctor on strike.
Lawal further said government was doing its best to make sure that all the salary arrears of cleared officers, by the screening committee, would be paid within the shortest time possible.
“It is equally noteworthy for every union to realise that the best way to resolve any issue is through peaceful dialogue and not strike action.
“In view of the foregoing, any staff of Kogi State Government that decides to go on strike is hereby notified that such person will have his/her job at stake.
“The policy of ‘No Work No Pay’ will be adopted for any worker that embarks on strike action,” she said.
The state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has directed its members to embark on indefinite strike, claiming that the state government failed to pay salaries of its members, among other demands.
Barely 48 hours into the strike, health activities have been grounded in most state government-owned hospitals across the state.
A visit to the state Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, showed that the ever busy hospital had few or no patients.
One of the patients, Mrs Jumai Usman, disclosed that no doctor was on ground to attend to her, adding that the development had forced many patients to patronise private hospitals.
She urged the state government and the NMA to dialogue and reach mutual agreement, to save the lives of patients, especially the poor who could not afford the high cost of bills at the private hospitals. Kano decided to set up grazing reserves.
Ekiti decided to bann grazing a certain times.
Benue banned open grazing and cattle drives.
Akwa Ibom only decided to start ranch so it's unknown if the will follow Ekiti lead. |

This is very important issue the administration decided to tackle. Maritime piracy spiked in 2016. Alot of kidnappings. I noticed the administration made a few steps to manage secruity and border situation. It's not alot of helicopters but we got to start somewhere. He disclosed that the government is working on the Single Window Project, a one-stop shop for cargo clearance, adding that it will reduce cargo clearance by almost fifty percent. This would be helpful clearing items in Nigeria seems to be a headache for these importers. Then on top the other port are reducing taxes. It's good they are trying to get act together on this front. It takes 20 days to clear a container in Nigeria, it takes only seven and three days in Togo and Benin Republic respectively. 20 days doing what. That's painfully long I see why the other ports have an east time taking business. |

THE Federal Government, yesterday, disclosed a maritime security strategy to combat sea piracy and other criminal activities on the nation’s coastal and territorial waters. The accompanying cost of the implementation is put at N186 million.
Speaking at the one day conference on fast-tracking Port Reforms, Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, said the government decided to move against these criminal elements so as to attract more cargo traffic and investors to the sector.
For the implementation of the strategy Amaechi said that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the acquisition of three aircraft, three helicopters, 12 fast moving vessels and 20 amphibious vehicles for that purpose. He said, “Turning our ports to world class port will not happen now, it will take time but we must start from somewhere,” adding that since inception of the current administration, the goal of government in the reformation of the maritime sector is providing enabling environment for the modernization and expansion of existing infrastructure.
He disclosed that the government is working on the Single Window Project, a one-stop shop for cargo clearance, adding that it will reduce cargo clearance by almost fifty percent. At the one day conference which was organised by The Nation Newspapers, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, (NSC) Mr. Hassan Bello, however, stated that the nation’s ports still remain the costliest in the West and Central Africa sub-region. Bello who was represented by Cajetan Agu, a Director in the NSC, also said that while it takes 20 days to clear a container in Nigeria, it takes only seven and three days in Togo and Benin Republic respectively. Politics › We Need Manufacturing Plants, Not Finished Products, Adeosun Tells Japan by Blue3k2(op): 1:47am On May 05, 2017 |
By Emmanuel Elebeke
ABUJA—Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has urged Japanese Trade and Investment Mission to invest in Nigeria by setting up manufacturing plants, instead of shipping-in finished products.
The Minister stated this in Abuja yesterday, while discussing with a Japanese Public and Private Joint Mission in efforts to promote trade and investment in Nigeria.
Adeosun told the big Japanese companies that the country is ready to continue to do business with the rest of the world.
The Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs led the 32 private sector and government organisations to the Ministry of Finance for the engagement.
She said Nigeria would welcome Japanese investors in banking, insurance, manufacturing and other sectors.
“We will assist you to do well. Many companies came into Nigeria and are doing very well and there is nothing to stop Japanese firms from doing very well,’’ she said.
Adeosun said government was vigorously working to improve the country’s business environment by investing in transportation infrastructure and had made doing business in Nigeria easier.
She said: “Specific reforms by removing lots of impediments, fiscal incentives to facilitate your coming into Nigeria to invest and drive your businesses, are being put in place.’’
Adeosun noted that Africa’s biggest economy was now out of recession and would grow again, adding that the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP, articulated by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was designed to stabilize the economy and propel it to growth.
The Minister told the Trade and Investment Mission that the Plan envisaged stabilising the macroeconomic environment, boosting agricultural production for food security, ensuring energy sufficiency, improving transportation infrastructure and driving industrialization through manufacturing.
She stated that there were opportunities for the Japanese private sector investors, especially through Public Private Partnerships, PPP, in the development of transportation infrastructure, hydropower and ports
Adeosun expressed appreciation to the Japanese government for supporting and executing many projects through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the Mission, the Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Shunsuke Takei, said they were on a Mission to Nigeria as part of efforts by the Japanese government to actualize the US$30 billion Public and Private investment pledge made in August 2016 during the sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Nairobi, Kenya, which was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that given the size of the Nigerian population and market as well as its economic recovery and potential for growth, Japanese investors were desirous of investing in Nigeria, but noted challenges in the areas of security, legal and power environments. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/need-manufacturing-plants-not-finished-products-adeosun-tells-japan/

No solutions at all. That's why certain person had to cry to mods. Driving cattle means trekking FYI. That's why I listed usin other means to transport transporting cattle. Blue3k: The solutions is simple
1. let this be a state issue if certain states want to buy and donate land for herdsmen.
2. Start your own ranch.
3. Stop driving cattle and use trucks to transport. If you want to be old school use trains.
4. Federal government can give loans to these people to buy land. Through bank of Agriculture with generous terms.

QuotaSystem: The fact that you are unable to distinguish religion from culture explains the source of that tripe above. I share the northern culture, yet I have nothing to do with the predominant religion in the North. The fact that underage marriage is permitted in Islam does not mean it is permitted in Hausa-Fulani culture. How then can you call term a culture sick because some of its members adhere to a religion that permits such? The daftness of your statement must now be fully clear to you. When the laws enable the act the culture is sick. When they allow the laws to enable criminal behavior. It's one thing to have crime it's another thing to make crime legal. Again I only talked about enablers of kidnapping and paedophilia. I'm guessing your one because your the only one offended. I saI'd the culture sick when I heard about aunties in south molesting boys in thread buy mostly south west. It should never be normal to hurt children with no recourse. QuotaSystem: [s]Furthermore, your excuse for the sickening satanic practices and raw paedophilia in the South East holds no water, because whenever your ilk are caught with their teenage girls in their baby factories, caught with cocaine stuffed up their anus, or caught with human parts for your satanic rituals; you blame it on the ibo culture of "huzzling" and "competition among peers". The evidence is in all the drug trafficking threads on NL where your kin try to shamefully defend their innate criminality. Is that not excusing your satanic practices and paedophilia with culture? Is Okija Shrine in Daura? Are the scores of girls that are raped daily in baby factories by Ibo paedophiles any older than Ese Oruru? Is a bag of rice not worth more than an eastern baby today?[/s] Those guys are regarded as criminal and law doesn't protect them. The society and culture doesn't enable pedophilia and kidnapping through religious courts. I don't need to defend crimality like you feel the need to for your ilk. When crimality and abusing children is codified into laws. Then you have sick culture. When caught drug dealers go to jail, kidnappers go to prison murders get hung and life on jail. Their legal institutions don't protect these scum like you wouldbecause you see Emir in front of their name. I don get why you keep bringing up hausa and fulanis when I didn't. Lol do you feel guilty guy. I said the enablers of crime being courts. Drug dealers are least of concerns. I don't see a victim in that circumstance. Nobody forces anyone to buy or sell dope. If person what it they know risk. If the od that's their problem. Where do you see murders setting up religious Satan court or pedophilia courts. I don't care to defend the guilty like you do the your geological location, tribe, race, religion sex don't matter to me. The principles mean more. Now stop coming with these weak replies. If your a pedophile or kidnapping enabler get help for your sickness before some has to put you down. |

Why shouldn't it be this way when the population doesn't value education. They economic angle is because they are busy leaching allocations from productive regions. The northern regions are against reforms like fiscal federalism.
Let's look at cattle herdsmen issue. The issue is desertification. Instead of trying to tackle issue with irrigation and technology. The people cry for national grazing reserves to leach ounce more.
When NE redevelopment bill was brought up leach state kano was included even though most of fighting didn't occur there and little damage happed.
If they focused on education and work programs they wouldn't be so quick to join terrorist groups in my opinion.
