BreconHills:
The stock market fell for several reasons

1. There was too much money in the market fuelled by easy margin loans. Pure speculation resulted- It got to a stage Evans Pharmaceuticals was doubling every x days without any improvement in its fundamentals.
2. As with any bubble...rumour overtook legitimate market news. Who can forget Oceanics phantom financials that led to frenzied buying of its shares. Pure lies.
3. Poor regulation. The NSE was simply chasing records on a booming All share Index. Financial reporting was lax and listed companies did what they liked
4. When Dubai and the US subprime mortgage market was tanking, funds began exiting Nigeria for real estate overseas. I can say that Nigeria almost single handedly saved those markets from collapse. I still remember those girls being prostitutes to sell Dubai properties even in Malls.
5. Foreign portfolio investors did a "concert party" on the Nigerian Market suckering players by pushing up prices and exiting in well timed exits. MMM style.

What a time that was - suicides, home foreclosures, tears and anguish. I saw shege from one bank like this on margin loan. Those guys expoited ignorance of margin loan fine print ehn! Sold themselves houses like gala.

A time and a half. Kudos to anyone who survived it. 👏
Well said.
It's nice to see there are still ppl who have a good understanding of stock market dynamics.

Number of foreign firms is an achievement? ... shows development? ... is something good? "They provide jobs"... is the usual justification. How much do they pay? I'm not against foreign firms ... but against the freedoms and protection and support they are given to exploit our resources including human resources. How much the firms have profited we never hear about... neither how much revenue the State has received.
Don't say rubbish you do not know.
Between the indigenous oil servicing companies and the foreign ones which ones pay better?

You think I have low IQ because my comment does not align with yours.

As I have repeatedly said here, Nigeria will develop when we diversify our revenue stream via taxes AND when we become an exporter of industrial goods and services, you know, like sane developed countries.

But at the end, all you guys do is call me a low IQ person.

Ah well, you no wan read, you no wan understand, I no fit help una. cheesy
Of course you have low IQ, becos it takes high IQ for one to know that Industrialization, low corruption, been exporter of goods, development e.t.c do not happen by chance but are products of high IQ population.

May God bless you abundantly sir.

Our self centered and egocentric culture/tradition will never make us progress. A typical black man care not about his fellow man or society but himself alone. He is so wicked, materialistic and lack foresight. He only want to be above everyone, he only want to be worship by others, he would rather deprived his fellow men their privilege at home and takes all the fortunes to somewhere else to enjoy alone.

Like you have rightly said, civilization was probably forced on us because it amaze me how you will loot all resources meant for development of your home or your people and take it to another man's land to enjoy alone with your immediate family.
Crap.
But they have collective will to loot and rig elections? huh huh

Mehn everyone is riddled up with emotions ,it’s well but for real growing up in this system and seeing no change in sight makes it all worst for an African( Nigerian) ..The white see the good in development while the blacks ask why do we need development ! It not like my next door neighbor have any use for it ,it will be better I go to places that are more developed and enjoy the resources myself ..more reason you see Nigerians leaving in droves cause no one seems to understand how to tackle and develop this system..I will still maintain my stand and i will say it clearly a country like Nigeria shouldn’t have been coined together..white are evil and Africa is a cesspit of project to them ..we don’t have absolute control of our thoughts and they defeated us by starting with religion, waiting on God’s miracle before we start thinking right for ourselves ..Our creator somewhere must be laughing at us and the stupidity that we exhibit among his creations ..we lack foresight.
My friend shutup if you have nothing reasonable to say.

Don't take my word for it, Nigerians are more successful than every other race in USA, check the data...
Your logic is flawed, the disparity is the system, you might say it is still thesame black that controls that system, you are wrong.
Our system is still controlled by our masters.

Our economy is still controlled by a currency that isn't even ours, dollars, our resources are been taken by them, how we act against terrorism is still determined by our masters.

How we think and see ourselves is dependent of these same people. Where are these corrupt government spending our money?
Do you think our masters don't know these money spent on their land are from corruption?
