If you have an issue with someone (especially when you are sure that this person wants to deal with you) and the police invites you on a Friday, this is what you must do

✅ don’t go

✅Tell them you are out of town or scheduled to attend a very important meeting

✅ Tell them to reschedule to the next week and you will be there

✅ Alternatively, go with your lawyer.

Why am I saying this; I have witnessed instances when a suspect (usually in a business transaction) is invited by the police on Friday and when the person comes, the police will delay and eventually charge the suspect to the magistrate court later in the afternoon. The idea is to charge the person to court when the court is almost about to close (over night case).

The court will hear the case and grant the person bail, before the person will perfect his bail or fulfill the conditions of bail, the court may have close and the only option is to take the person to prison till Monday of the following week (the Court will not be aware of this thing). This is how a lot of people have spent their weekend in prison without the court knowledge.

This one is street survival sense, no be law.

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has threatened to take legal action against human rights lawyer, Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, over what he described as defamatory allegations capable of inciting religious tension in Nigeria.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, Gumi demanded that Omirhobo retract his statement and issue an “unreserved apology” within 48 hours or face a lawsuit for defamation and incitement.


The threat comes in response to a statement issued earlier by Omirhobo, titled “Terrorism Apology Is a Crime, Government Must Investigate and Prosecute Sheikh Ahmad Gumi,” in which the lawyer accused the cleric of “publicly justifying and defending terrorists” and called for his arrest and prosecution by security agencies.

In the statement, Omirhobo cited provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Criminal Code Act, arguing that Gumi’s comments and visits to bandit camps amounted to support for terrorism and posed a threat to national security.

Human rights lawyer, Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, has refused to apologise to Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, after being given a 24-hour ultimatum to withdraw his comments that called for Gumi’s investigation.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Friday, titled “Sheikh Gumi, I Did Not Defame You—Let’s Meet in Court,” Omirhobo said he stood by his words and would not retract them.

The lawyer explained that his earlier statement was not defamatory, but a call made in the public interest and protected by the Nigerian Constitution

“For the avoidance of doubt, my statement is not defamatory. It is a constitutionally protected comment made in national interest, based on facts and the law,” he said.

Reaffirming his position, the lawyer said no one is above the law, no matter their religious or social status. “I stand by my statement. I won’t take it back. No individual, cleric or otherwise, is above the law,” Omirhobo said.

He also called on the government to take the issue seriously, noting that defending or excusing terrorists is dangerous and should not be ignored.

“Anyone who defends or justifies the actions of terrorists is raising serious national security concerns that deserve investigation,” he added.
