How many of such nations use English?

Does China use English to set exam
Spain? Russia? Belgium? Germany?

The minister is indirectly talking about Hausa and North, who aren't doing well in exams, because they don't used to speak English to them from infancy.

Before they come out from such policy, they have done, EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND COMPARISIM. In the south, all of pupils in private schools started learning English from toddler, you yourself know that and that's why, thr is wide gap between south and north in area of education.

YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT EDUCATION, NEITHER ARE YOU EDUCATORS OR RESEARCHER IN EDUCATION.

Again learn how not to attack everything that comes out from govt or even online, just to win unnecessary argument.
The minister's approach like most of our government's approach to issues over the years is the lazy way out approach to tackling issues.

If your claim that "the minister is targeting north with this policy" is to be believed, then I can tell you boldly that the policy won't really achieve much. Your claim extensive research has been done , but this directive looks nothing like something backed by any extensive research because nothing shows they even understand the problem.

Anyways, going forward I hope you learn to address points raised by people in their post rather than projecting nonsense political bias

Rewatched the video of Wike and the Officer

When Wike was talking to the CDS on the phone, the officer's hands were in his pocket.

The moment he took the phone from Wike and spoke to the CDS, he stood at attention.

Just Wow!
He no send Wike papa as Wike decided to useless himself. grin

He put into action that enlightenment he gave to Wike by answering the phone at attention. You know he told Wike "Sir, I will request to enlighten you Sir, there's no such thing as a former Vice Admiral. A Vice Admiral is a Vice Admiral"

He showed that indeed the man still remain a Vice Admiral even tho he is not present, he still gave him the attention he would give him in his present.

They must attack every policies of govt, even when they themselves know is true.

The man is one of best brain in Tinubu cabinet
Must everything be politics to individuals like you?

I disagreed with a policy and I made an argument against the policy which has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

Instead of bringing a counter argument like the reasonable people who disagreed with my position did, you are here talking about Tinubu's cabinet. I guess because you support the government, other citizens cannot disagree with government's policies right ?

English is a global language in the academic world. What you are saying is a thought from an ignorant angle.I used to think this way, but when I met many international students, even those who couldn't communicate in English struggled because publishing papers in English reaches a wider audience. I recently attended a conference in Beijing, and everything was done in English. You know why? The USA, with its technology and British Empire, was the largest on earth
I've further explained my position in subsequent posts, look it up and see the point I made.

You’re right that many Indian students start learning in their local languages at the primary level, but that’s only half the story. India’s educational system is bilingual by design, not purely indigenous but the moment students move beyond the basic level, English Language becomes the dominant medium in science, technology, engineering, medicine, and higher education.

Now let me give you some facts at least those don't lie according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India, foundational and basic education can be delivered in the mother tongue only up to Grade 5, I think Grade 8 too, after which English becomes compulsory for secondary and tertiary instruction.

India’s IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), and NITs (National Institutes of Technology) — the very institutions producing those world-class engineers and IT professionals — all teach entirely in English, not Hindi, Tamil, or Bengali.

Meanwhile, Nigeria doesn’t yet have standardized academic materials, dictionaries, or scientific terminology in any indigenous language to match that system. If we were to teach subjects like Computer Programming or Quantum Physics in Hausa or Yoruba tomorrow, we’d spend more time inventing vocabulary than teaching the subject. India has spent over 70 years developing linguistic and translation infrastructure; Nigeria hasn’t even started that process at scale.
Everything you've written in the bolded part of your post is you making my point for me.

The minister claimed teaching our kids in indigenous language at the primary and secondary level is why our graduates can't compete with their peers. That is 100% false because you just confirmed in your post that Indians are taught in their languages + English Language up to a point before English is finally the language of instruction.

As of today, we teach majorly in English and partly in indigenous language. The minister saying they should discontinue use of indigenous language completely and use English 100%.

I am saying the minister's arguments backing that directive is flawed because evidence abounds of where the system he's cancelling has actually worked and produce results.

I hope you get my point now.

We have over 400 languages in Nigeria alone. How will we create new curriculum or translate existing ones to mother tongues? How long will it take you to translate textbooks, train teachers in the use of the mother tongues to teach physics, chemistry, biology, economics etc. What about internal and external examination? For a country that has one of the worst education system in the world, teaching in native languagee will take not less than 30 years to get us halfway to where we currently are. It is not feasible and it does not make any sense. Think about it.
India has over 1000 languages and dialects and they have 22 official languages .

It's only mental laziness that has made us stick with English as the only official language 65 years after independence. We can decide to have 3 to 6 official languages like some other African countries do if our policy makers want to.

What you don't know is that if they want to really carry out this minister's directive, people may stop going to school in some parts of this country. You need to travel around Nigeria to understand that this directive makes no sense and won't really achieve its intended purpose.

You claimed in those countries I mentioned they don't teach in local languages; I then proceed to point it out to you that In India, schools teach in different indigenous languages at the primary and secondary level.

I've corrected the typo now.

Those same students who learnt under that system would floor some of our own products in Engineering and IT field

Not only that, over the years English language has always been used, at least in the South

Who teaches Mathematics or Physis with local language? grin
I attended a public school from JSS1 to SSS3 and I can tell you boldly that teachers do teach with Yoruba sometimes to drive their point home.

Some students assimilate when some concepts are broken down to them in their mother tongue.

Nobody is saying English should be scrapped as official language, rather I am saying the minister goofed claiming it is frequent use of indigenous languages that makes our students unable to compete with their peers globally.
EducationRe: Nigerian Government Suspends Indigenous Language In Schools, Upholds English by BlueRayDick:

It is not flawed.

I understand the point about countries like China, India, and those in Europe using their native languages for instruction, but that comparison doesn’t fit Nigeria’s situation. Those countries each have a single dominant national language—like Mandarin, Japanese, or French—while Nigeria has over 500 distinct languages and no universally accepted one that can serve as a neutral medium of instruction. Choosing just one would immediately create inequality and deepen ethnic divides.

Beyond that, languages like Chinese or Hindi have long-established written standards, rich vocabularies, and well-developed scientific and technical terms built through centuries of national investment. Most Nigerian languages simply don’t have that level of linguistic infrastructure yet, so translating complex subjects like physics, medicine, or computer science into them would be nearly impossible at this stage.

Even in India, where local languages are widely used, English remains a co-official language and is still the main medium in higher education, science, technology, and international business. In fact, much of India’s global success in areas like IT and medicine is because of its strong foundation in English.

English gives Nigerian students access to global research, education, and employment opportunities. Abandoning it now would only isolate our graduates from the international stage. The smarter and more realistic path is a bilingual approach—teaching early education in local languages for better comprehension, while maintaining English as the language of science, technology, and global communication.

In truth, countries like China and India don’t succeed because they reject English; they succeed because they’ve built strong national languages and still value English as a bridge to the rest of the world. Until Nigeria develops that kind of linguistic foundation, English remains our most practical and unifying medium of instruction.
Chief, In india they teach in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, etc at the primary and tertiary levels of education.

I responded to the part the man claimed teaching students in English language is the only way to make our students compete favorably with their peers globally. That claim is falsity.

Regina's mother should be ashamed of herself

Trading off her 17 year old daughter because of money.
I'm suspecting that Regina and her mum delibrately falsified her age for their own selfish reasons.

Regina claimed she married Ned as a 17 year old. Ned on the hand claimed she was 19 when the both got married and he has her PVC as evidence of her age being 19 as at that time.

We all know PVC, International passport or drivers license can have any age you choose to present to the authorities as at the time you are applying.

It's looking likely that Regina and her mum choose 1998 as her birth year when she was registering for PVC despite knowing she was actually born in year 2000 (for reasons best known to them). They provided that PVC to Ned and he had no reason to doubt her age.

In all of this, one fact stands out: Rita Daniels is a very bad mother who would do anything to secure the bag even if it is at the expense of her daughter's happiness. Maybe if Ned was into women above 35 years of age she would've offered herself to him sha.

The government should also clear the thugs and miscreants at major bus stops like Oshodi, Obalende, CMS,etc. They pose danger to law abiding citizens.

Alausa explained that while preserving indigenous languages remains important for cultural identity, English would now serve as the primary language of instruction from pre-primary to tertiary levels to enhance comprehension, learning outcomes, and global competitiveness.

“The English language should be used to teach our students at all levels as a means of instruction,” the minister said.

“Over the years, mother tongues have been used to teach, and this has largely been responsible for the failures recorded in exams.

“The national policy on language has been cancelled. English now stands as the medium of instruction across all levels of education,” he added.
His arguments are flawed.

What about Indians, Chinese and even European countries who use their own indigenous language as language of instruction, and their students/graduates still compete favorably well when placed side by side with those taught in English in the global market?

The thing is if the person they support acts in a wrongful manner and you point it out; they will automatically claim you are being critical of the person because you don't like the person. They would not speak to the meat of the matter(The wrongful act), rather they will want to make it about u not liking the person.

None of us carried Wike from his office to the scene of the incident. None of us whine Wike's mouth to start barking at the officer to the extent he called him a fooool. The officer still continued engaging him politely and ended each of his sentence with the word "sir" as a sign of respect despite Wike's condescending attitude and remarks.

Somebody watched the same video we all watched and turned back to say "You are siding with the military officer because you hate Wike". As how now ?

Wike has been caught in the web of accusation of allocating lands to his family members and friends. These people have never criticized him for any of those. They would rather tell themselves that every allocation or revocation Wike does is him performing his lawful duty as "custodian of all FCT Lands". I never see this kind thing before sha.

The focus on the officer was always wrong right from the start. Principalities and powers in his field of endeavour sent him to stop the officials from moving in so he had no other choice but to do what he did.

The people potentially at fault were the principalities and powers that sent him in the first place. I don’t however know what people wanted them to do when facing a governor who does not follow rule of law or wait for court orders himself.

It is Wike’s disregard for due process and court orders that led us to this situation.
That's the thing! When the society is gradually tilting towards a banana republic where people in governance have chosen to respect the rule of law at their own discretion, the governed will resort to self help.

Those military apparently resorted to self help knowing that is the only thing that can stop Wike from carrying out his hidden agenda. They knew allowing him to take over the place and then heading to court will only be a waste of their time & resources.
