Spy360: If my child shoved his teacher then the slap is well deserved. Simple.
As per the bolded, there is a law of cause and effect. You shouldn't discuss effect. It's the cause that matters. A child shouldn't shove his teacher, if he does that whatever he sees is an effect.
Again, The law actually protects a minor and doesn’t treat a minor like an adult . No law will allow a teacher to slap a minor because he shoved his teacher . Haba! |

raumdeuter: Lol. How can? How do you mean? There are many minors who are stronger than adults. Go to a typical SS2 to SS3 class. The boys there will beat many adults
Mike Tyson at 17 will beat 90% of people in the world
When i was teaching in my NYSC many of those students will beat up many of the teachers and they do it regularly na because of that people like me became friendly with them
Na respect dey make dem no dey try am not like some of them dont have the capacity to
I get mate for secondary school wey dey always beat Gatemen and teachers Well, my experience is different from urs . Also I believe abusing/assaulting a minor would only make things worse for u. For example if u decide to slap SS2 students like u are suggesting in ur post , it only leaves ground for the students to gather in their numbers and forget dagger in belly after school closes . A teacher can actually teach and discipline his or her students without abusing/assaulting them . If you believe otherwise , no wahala . I taught my students in the north without laying a finger on them and they performed well in my subject better than they did in the previous class under a teacher who strikes them for every infringement . |

TrebleChamp: How would you react if your child come home with a slap mark on his face? It is easy to support physical abuse by a teacher, until it happen to your own child. The student was wrong to push his teacher, but slapping him was wrong too. He should have dragged the kid to the proprietors office after other form of punishment (excluding beating) failed. I know teachers who have been sacked from private just for shouting at student to go inside their class, plus a lot of teacher allow the personal issues control their emotion and could even best a child to death in that instance. Some of the things I endured as a student , I will never allow my own kid go through at all . |

Theflint1: Yea, the standards for testing students have pretty much remained same, meanwhile students have a lot more available to them to prepare for these exams.
I fit even say students of today are on average smarter than those from older generations. The way students make above 300 in JAMB UTME , and still finish with 5.0 CGPA in tough courses just shows students have enough access to learning arterials . When we were in school , I didn’t have access to the much academic materials students have access to on the internet now . You can literally google a particular topic and see different arguments for and against it online to form an opinion on best answering questions testing to the topic . When I submitted my project topic to my supervisor in 400l , for me to even get 10 journal articles relating to the topic on the internet as requested by my supervisor was a big deal . The internet and advancement in technology has made things easy now |

Spy360: Well done.
No wonder we have a failing education system.
It's the same reason NFF will be owing players bonuses for months and when they protest people we will questioning why they are protesting before a crucial match.
That child go push soldier one day. That's when the parent will realize that slap is a very fair punishment for assault on an authority. We have a failing educational system because of social media distraction and students refusing to read . It has nothing to do with allowing teachers to slap or assault students . I have friends who were assaulted by our teachers and didn’t still amount to anything good . These days we see students graduating with 5.0 CGPA which was alien to us during our set . These are students who weren’t slapped like you are advocating . I agree students need to be disciplined , but crossing the line from discipline to assault is what i will never subscribe to. |

Spy360: So I ask if slapping is not a form of punishment especially for a student that physically assaulted his teacher?
Ordinarily a teacher would scold or flog a student. But if that student decides to lay hands on the teacher, slapping is not out of place. Slapping is out of place . If a student pushes u while u are trying to discipline him , report to the school authority . Let the school suspend or expel him and u continue to deal with other students . A teacher slapping that student is crossing the line . An adult needs to behave like an adult irrespective of whether a minor decided to behave on the impulse of youthful exuberance . |

Emaprince: Things are no longer the same. Thats why kids of these days are spoilt and so soft
At my sec school, a catholic owned school, many of us were flogged on the calf to a point it peels or swells. Sometimes on the buttocks, and you will see swollen red lines, that sitting becomes difficult. You raise one nyash, and perch on the other. Our parent never complained sef. They believed it was some well deserved disciplinary actions from the teachers.
Back then, we dey get teachers that every one would be scared of. When students gather to gossip about most teachers, guess what the convo is centered on? Its usually how wicked, how he flogs, how he speaks in a scary way etc. We had teachers that would make students look into the sun directly as a form of punishment . Some ex-students have eye condition today because of that wickedness disguised as punishment . I remember when I started working , some of my ex-teachers I boarded same bus with them and didn’t even bother to say hi because of high terrible some of them were . They are all retired now and when I discuss them with some of my ex-classmates we all agree that they were too high handed with us . |

Spy360: It's a shame that people here are defending a student over a teacher. Some of you need to teach for some time so that you can have some sense of good judgement. I taught for one full year as a corper teacher in the north and I didn’t lay a hand on any of my students . The only time I had them flogged , I called the school sergeant to flog the few recalcitrant ones who refused to do an assignment I gave them . And the flogging was within the normal permissible threshold . A teacher laying hands on a student is 100% unacceptable . Slapping a student who is a minor shows u can do worse to ur fellow adult sef . |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 2:30pm On Nov 16, 2025 |
Theflint1: True.
And if it's gotten to the point where a teacher has lost control in the course of discipline, it has crossed into abuse of authority.
That era wey teachers dey pack all the frustration for their life on top children head don pass. Aswear! Some of our teachers actually abused us claiming they disciplined us. In my school ( a public secondary school in Lagos) we had a teacher who trains as an amateur boxer. If he wants to discipline a stubborn student, he will legit be boxing the under 18 student like hes fighting an adult . We had teachers who would beat u till ur skin tear up all in the name of discipline . Some of them had their personal frustration , but they brought it to their workplace (the school ). I don’t know if things are still the same now , but back then a lot of teachers actually abused students . |

It's always private schools.. Don't understand this culture of parents coming to beat up teachers..
I hope the poor guy can sue.. The parent did wrong beating up the teacher, but the teacher too was wrong slapping the student initially. Teachers too should stop putting hands on students to the extent of slapping them abeg. The things wey teachers dey do to students sef, dem go dey beat student like thief. Some of those things they call discipline is actually abuse. When u become a parent and see marks inflicted on Ur child by a teacher, there's a kind of trigger it builds in u. |
