Every generation deals with problems in their time. In my fathers time, they were fed for free, they were given full employment with official car after graduation because the population of people getting degrees were not many. In my grandfathers time they were begging people to go to school. Should we insist on bringing back those years even when the realities on ground differ?

The total number of graduates in Nigeria every year in the 70s might be less than 5,000. Today a normal University graduates over 5,000 and we have like 200 universities today

I was in America and I sat down with some Nigerians and they started. I told them that in Nigeria, a person will graduate as a medical doctor and spend N500, 000 throughout to become a doctor and they are working. You will graduate from John Hopkins as a doctor and you spend $2000, are you okay? Do you know how much money you will spend?

Which of the above is wrong or do you disagree with. Some Nigerian doctors spent less than N500k to get a medical degree true or false?

In USA you cannot get a medical degree for cheap true or false

I spent less than N10K to get a degree in Nigeria even at the exchange rate of my time, It was very cheap. If I have t pay the $60k my peers abroad were paying, I probably wont be able to afford it

I always tell friends in NYSC who went to Private Unis and paid N250k per year that if I was required to pay that, I will probably be a mechanic or battery charger

Once again I prostrate to Nigerian govt and I am grateful

Every graduate got subsidized education, Doctors was just an example of highly paid profession whose training gulps a lot of money

I don't think Poju is saying anyone should not japa. Anyone that japa and uses his Naija certificate to get a high paying job should be grateful for getting a subsidized education his peers abroad are not getting

My colleagues abroad are still paying student loans and I am grateful that Naija govt provided it to me for cheap

Everybody who schooled in a public university in Nigeria benefitted from subsidized education. It is not only doctors. Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants, Architects, Computer Scientists too should not japa and they can start the prostration.

The US 275k also include living and other expenses, if the association of resident doctors are comparing apples to apples

So when you spent $20 to $50k getting a medical education and your colleagues who you will earn the same thing pay almost times 10 of that

I think you should be grateful to the person or organization who subsidized that cost

In Nigeria, of the $20000 to $50000 they claimed is used to train doctors, how much of that is borne by the medical student?

In America that $275k is carried by the student directly in form of student loans or family debt

If someone offers to give you a training worth $20k to $50k for a discounted cost of less than $3k.

Even when you enter America and spend $10k to get licensed that means you have spent a total of $13k to become American licensed when your American colleague spent $275k
Both of you will earn the same salary


The Nigerian educated doctor will have spent a total of $13k to start working as a doctor in America whole the American educated would have spent $275k

That's is a major headstart given to Nigerian educated doctors courtesy of the Nigerian govt who heavily subsidized their medical education
