The way people are being arrested for defamation is getting out of hand. Defamation is a civil matter. If anybody defame you take the person to court, arrest should only come into the equation if the defamer refuses to show up in court.
Portable is being charged for criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking..

If u follow him or watch is videos concerning the whole saga, u will know that he's not just being held for defamation.

He used the music of an A-list fuji musician without the musician's approval neither did he give credit to the musician. Being signed on a global music label, the international management of the artist followed due process in having that particular portable's music yanked off all digital platform citing copyright infringement ( which is even a crime in Nigeria)

Now instead of Portable to collect the L and move on; he resorted to cyberstalking the artist. He kept on making videos attacking the person of the artist for having his music yanked off digital platforms. He even threatened him in one of his numerous videos ( which is another crime). He incited public disturbance by claiming in his videos that if anything should happen to him then Saheed Osupa should be ready for what comes after.

I believe Saheed Osupa was embarrassed by all portable's shenanigans and decided to test the law by writing a petition against Portable to the police for them to charge him to court. At least within 24 hours he has been charged to court and he has been granted bail.

If u ask me, Saheed Osupa hasn't done wrong for now. Let Portable face his warrant ; he should get a lawyer and prove his case in court

Why we arrested Singer Portable
-Kwara police
**

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as “Portable” following a petition received from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as "Osupa," against Habeeb Okikiola Badmus a.k.a “Portable”.

The confirmation of the arrest of the controversial artiste is contained in a press release made available to journalists on Sunday night in Ilorin the Kwara State capital by the Police Public Relations Officer of Kwara Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

According to the statement, Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.

Police authority further noted that the petition borders on serious allegations which includes criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.

Police maintained that in view of the weight of the said allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.

Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.

Upon his arrival, the suspect's statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties and he is currently in custody and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay.

The State however submitted that the Kwara State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in a fair and transparent manner urging members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information.

IT IS WELL !!! Fenuwugate
Credit: Opeyemi promotions UK on Facebook.

Portable ọmọ olalomi was arrested by Kwara state police command officers in Abeokuta and was shipped to Ilorin, Kwara state immediately for the various offences he allegedly committed against the person of Saheed Osupa.

Portable alleged Osupa had his song yanked off digital platforms because he sampled one of his(Osupa's) songs. Osupa's management has come out to explain that Osupa is now under a global music brand that takes intellectual property law serious and they are the ones who took down portable songs even without Osupa having a say in the matter.

Portable being an illiterate doesn't care about the explanation and just thinks Osupa himself is the one behind his predicament. He keeps calling out Osupa, threatening him, inciting public hate against him and dragging his name in the mud.

My Opinion : I think Portable does these things to just remain relevant. He wants these controversies so he can record new singles from these ordeals

Nigerian National Indicted for Role in Romance Scam and Money Laundering Scheme

BOSTON – A Nigerian national has been charged for his alleged role in allegedly stealing more than $2.5 million from six romance scam victims and transferring their money to cryptocurrency accounts that he controlled.

Charles Uchenna Nwadavid, 34, of Abuja, Nigeria, was arrested on April 7, 2025 after arriving on a flight from the United Kingdom to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In January 2024, a federal grand jury in Boston indicted Nwadavid on charges of mail fraud and money laundering. Nwadavid appeared in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas on April 8, 2025 and was detained pending further proceedings. He will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.

According to the charging documents, “romance scams” recruit victims through advertisements for online relationships on dating or social media websites. Individuals perpetuating romance scams create fictitious profiles and then use them to gain victims’ trust through a purported romantic relationship. Perpetrators then direct their victims to send money or to conduct financial transactions involving other victims’ money under false pretenses, such as an urgent need for money to secure a multi-million dollar inheritance or to pay for an unexpected hospitalization.

Between in or about 2016 and September 2019, Nwadavid allegedly participated in romance scams that tricked victims into sending money abroad. In an effort to conceal his role as the recipient of the victims’ funds, Nwadavid allegedly used a victim from Massachusetts (Victim 1) to receive funds from five other victims around the United States. Nwadavid then allegedly tricked Victim 1 in to passing her own and the other victims’ money to him through cryptocurrency transactions, and allegedly accessed accounts in Victim 1’s name from overseas, to transfer the victims’ funds to accounts he controlled at LocalBitcoins, an online cryptocurrency platform.

The mail fraud charge provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the loss to the victim, restitution and forfeiture. The money laundering charges provide for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $500,000 or twice the value of the property involved in the laundering transactions, restitution and forfeiture. The defendant will also be subject to deportation upon completion of any sentence imposed. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mackenzie A. Queenin of the Criminal Division is prosecuting the case.

The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Just yesterday I was still discussing with my spouse about how effective the US justice system is and how the FBI have a very high rate of conviction that is above 90% and then I came across this news this morning online.

This guy ran Romance scam from naija between 2016 and 2019 in which he made aprroximately $2.5million. He was traveling between UK and US last week 7th of April 2025 and they arrested him at the point of entry.

The part that burst my head is that they already issued his arrest warrant since 2024 and he wasn't even aware. They just silently circulated his arrest warrant within law enforcement databases and waited patiently for him to crayfish Waka enter their trap.

He was arrested April 7th 2025 and by April 8th 2025 he was already in court appearing before a judge to get a remand order to hold him in custody beyond 24 hours pending further proceedings.

Like, this is a justice system that follows the law to the latter . They are not leaving any loophole for him to later get a criminal defence lawyer who will challenge his method of arrest, allege illegal detention and even claim evidences were obtain while he was illegally detained. They crossed their T's and do their i 's.

This is not EFCC that will burst into naira Marley house, claimed they found stolen credit information on him and couldn't secure a conviction since 2021 till date

Rivers does not have only Oil producing facilities as it's business. PH is far bubbling than the whole Ebonyi put together.

6 billion indeed[/color]
Rivers and Lagos may be understated.

The LG chairmen there may be focusing on making the money and chopping it by themselves so it doesn't get reported. Maybe Ebonyin is not blowing lamba but Rivers and Lagos not declaring enough..

Fun fact: First bank has about 5 branches in Ebonyi state. Not a yardstick though, but I wonder the kind of commercial activities they did, that raised 6 billion[/color]
The data is actually referring to IGR generated by local governments and not IGR generated by state.

What that means in essence is that LGs in Ebonyi makes more internally generated revenue than local governments in Rivers state. It can happen if the LG chairmen in Rivers state don't declare accurately the IGR they make while Ebonyin LGs do theirs diligently.

Another thing is most of the oil facilities in Rivers state may not be obliged to pay any form of rates and fees to Local governments.

🗣️ Enzo Maresca says he's looking for a 'clone' of Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea boss keen to stress Jackson's importance ahead of Ipswich on Sunday, but admits Liam Delap has also caught his eye.

"My perfect number nine is exactly Nico Jackson. We already have a number nine. It's not summer now.

"If we can have a copy of Nico, it's OK. I have said many times, and you can see as well, with Nico we are a better team. Nico is the one we need.

"Last season, he scored goals without penalties. This season he scored goals until he was injured. Now, hopefully he can score more goals without penalties. We are happy with Nico. And about next season, it's not the moment [to talk about transfers].

"In terms of numbers, Liam [Delap] is doing fantastic. I think he's scored 12 [Premier League] goals already. It's not just in terms of his numbers. The way he plays and fights and is always 'there'. But he's an Ipswich player. He's an enemy on Sunday because we need to beat them, and then after the game I wish him all the best for the future.

"To compare Liam [Delap] with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, I think it's a bit early. But for sure, in terms of style he's that kind of player. They are all real nines. They are nines inside the box.

"But we also have a good nine [in Nico Jackson]. He's doing well since we started. Unfortunately, we've missed him, and sometimes you need to miss players to realise how important they are for you. With Nico, we are a completely different team compared to when he was injured. We are happy with Nico as our striker."

A Sokoto Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Faruk Umar, has ordered that 18-year-old social media activist, Hamdiyya Sidi Shariff, be given 12 strokes of the cane, two years imprisonment, or a fine of N50,000.

Shariff was arrested on November 13, 2024, and remanded in prison for allegedly criticising rising killings and widespread insecurity in Sokoto State through a social media post.

A social media user, Maliq (@MasterMaliq), posted on the X platform on Thursday that before Shariff was arrested, she was abducted by armed men while on her way to retrieve her mobile phone from a charging point. She was beaten, thrown out of a moving tricycle, and left with severe injuries.

In a viral video, Shariff revealed how bandits pillaged their villages without any restraints and how displaced women seeking refuge in the state capital are now being sexually exploited due to abject poverty and squalor.

The Sokoto State government first charged her before a Sharia court for the “use of insulting or abusive language” and “inciting disturbance” after she criticised Governor Ahmed Aliyu in a TikTok video.

Her plight drew the attention of Amnesty International, which urged security operatives to ensure her impartial trial.

The Director, Amnesty International Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, in a statement issued, noted that the threat to the lives of Hamdiyya and her lawyer was disturbing and the need for caution.

“The Nigerian authorities must impartially and transparently investigate disturbing threats to the lives of Hamdiyya Sidi Shariff and her lawyer Abba Hikima – as the trial continues. Right now, apart from facing persecution for exercising freedom of expression, Hamdiyya Sidi Shariff and her lawyer, Abba Hikima, are being subjected to threats, including phone calls and in-person confrontations by sponsored thugs and individuals claiming to be ‘intelligence agents’, said Sanusi.

He stated that at the last court hearing, Hikima was compelled to apply for armed police protection due to the hostile atmosphere in court. The request was granted by the court.

While in Sokoto for the trial, they were also stalked at their hotel, accosted, and intimidated by some individuals.

“These actions represent an alarming abuse of power and a calculated attempt to intimidate and punish those who speak out for their society and lawyers defending them. The hostilities being faced by Hamdiyya Sidi Sharif and Barrister Abba Hikima are increasingly making their appearance in court in Sokoto dangerous.”

“Instead of attempting to suppress dissenting voices, Sokoto State government and the Nigerian security agencies should focus on addressing rampant insecurity facing particularly the people of the eastern part of Sokoto State where gunmen have been killing people, razing villages, abducting women and girls – almost daily,” Sanusi said

On February 22, 2025, before her sentencing, the 18-year-old activist had her trial adjourned to March 13 and 14, 2025, by Chief Magistrate Umar, after the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Khalid Musa, presented evidence through the Investigating Police Officer, Tukur Abdulhadi.

The prosecution alleged that Shariff disseminated content capable of inciting public disturbance, particularly criticising the government’s handling of banditry in regions like Sabon Birnin Daji.

During the session, the IPO submitted a flash drive and a translated version of Shariff’s statement as exhibits.

However, under cross-examination, it was revealed that her statement was taken without legal representation present. The court then maintained the bail conditions previously granted to her.

The case ignited a firestorm of discussions across social media platforms, with users expressing a spectrum of opinions:

Many viewed her as a courageous voice against governmental negligence. One user emphasised the threats she has faced since her critical post about the Sokoto State governor.

An X user, NnaGin (@whiskynnagin), wrote, “Is terrorism, insecurity & bad governance not more than public disturbances? How could a complimentary expression on social media about insecurity & bad governance be seen as public disturbances while the actual commission of the acts are not? The people there are horrible.”

Another user, SelflessComrade® (@Comr_Sanusi1), tweeted, “It’s unfortunate we found ourselves in this deceptive thing called democracy. Imagine if this type of governor happens to be in a military regimes?…”

Squanderboy (@squanderbo11691) wrote, “They all want sharia law..give it to them in full force.”
Credit : Punch Newspaper.

An eighteen year old calls out the Sokoto state government for poor handling of fight against banditry in the state ; the government didn't address the point she raised rather they decided to send her to prison and give her 12 strokes of the cane. 🤦‍♂️
