sod09:That will only lead to another round of strike which is not in the FG’s favor . They won’t be fooolish enough to go that route all over again. |
In a press briefing addressing the potential impact of Silicon Valley Bank’s failure on Nigerian businesses, Emefiele asserted that bank depositors are the ultimate owners of banks since they have more to lose than shareholders. He emphasized, “I would rather dispose of shareholders than make depositors lose money,” a policy he maintained throughout his tenure.Hmmmm. Well, there’s wisdom in what Emefiele was doing which is summarized above , but it imposed serious moral hazard . It allowed major shareholders who ran the banks to the ground to escape . There’s also sense in this Cardoso’s approach of not rescuing the banks but something must give. I think they need to revisit and review the amount of depositors fund that are insured with NDIC . That current N500k is too small. If CBN under Cardoso has chosen to allow market forces prevail , then they should review the amount of depositors fund that can be recoverable in the event a bank fails . Itsrm: |
Itsrm:One of the issues we have as citizens and which is part of why we are where we are today in Nigeria is the fact that we always channel our anger towards the wrong set of people . The government has had one full year to keep its house in order and come up with something reasonable as new minimum wage; that was not done. The government removed subsidy which led to general rise in the price of goods & services ; the government claimed it has saved trillions over the past one year since the removal of subsidy . Oya let the government show workings on how hardship the people faced due to its policies can be cushioned e turn stories . The labour union said enough is enough and decided press the government for neck and suddenly u see people getting angry with the labour . Suddenly everybody is unaware that people die daily from power failure in govt hospitals . When people say “one day Nigerians will wake up” , “ The Arab spring might be a child’s play to what will happen in Nigeria if our government are not careful “ , etc. I always tell myself it may likely not happen in our lifetime. |
sod09:Do u think if they didn’t do what they did , FG will agree to add any kobo to that 60k ? The same FG that dragged foot on this matter for a whole year ? Na because dem hold dem for blokus na |
afrodoc2:The bold has always been my grouse and that’s why I don’t look at people always defending/making excuses for politicians online with good eyes at all. Ur tax gets deducted at source (an amount u don’t naturally feel like paying sef in the first place ) , then u start hearing of how a politician embezzled billions of public funds , how a regular Joe suddenly became a billionaire spending less than 4 years in politics , etc. These things irks me so much . U pay taxes and u still have to drive on terrible roads because somebody has embezzled the funds for the roads construction or the politicians have spent it on frivolous things. Then u have people fighting tooth and nail to defend such people . All these minimum wage discussion is even centered around money that can at least feed the workers . Nobody has talked about affordable healthcare now; it appears everybody don agree to go back to herbs cos with the exit of pharmaceutical companies drugs are freaking expensive now . |
Itsrm:😂 Before nko? Once they give u envelope, u can’t claim the person didn’t try . People just Dey use sense manage themselves now. |
“The notice of strike was too short. It was given from the negotiation table and it was 48 hours or less. The approach of the current crop of NLC leaders is aggressive, arrogant, fascist and partisan. The body language is unmistakable. It is directed at bringing the government down. This NLC has no respect for the rule of law, not even an iota of decorum for democratic practices.@ sod09 just imagine wetin prof. MURIC Dey yarn for mouth . The guy doesn’t even care about Muslims whether rich or poor , he just wants to shamelessly act as a wing of the APC and that’s all. He refused to talk about that fact that FG had a full year to meet with the labour union and come Up with a reasonable revised minimum wage o; he just wants to delve into politics at all cost . Now I think I remember the man sef. I remember he used to anchor one program on MITV that year on Sundays . I remember how my dad despite being a Muslim usually fumes at some of his extremist views on issues o live TV . |
nihilistjnr:We actually discussed this earlier today and I also believe the minimum wage increment will lead to an increment in inflation in the long run. But it appears the labour unions are all about the short run for now; and the people are with them on that this far. Yes there’s the political aspect to this crisis and there’s the economic aspect too. The whole subsidy removal thingy , floating of Naira and increment in electricity tariffs is what led us to this point . It’s a combination of political and economic issues intertwined . It is normal for the people not to see any sense in a n economic solution that has not addressed the lingering political problems . Something must give |
Itsrm:Around early April , a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey is about 51k in store . That’s not Hennessy o , not Martel o. |
nihilistjnr:That’s because u still Dey use olden days eyes to look the Naira value . When minimum wage was increased to N18,000, a bag of foreign rice was sold for around N9,500 which means a minimum wage earner’s salary can buy almost 2 bags of rice . Today minimum wage is N30,000 and it can barely buy half bag of rice . Nigeria don hard gan and the government seem not to have solution. The political class keep making adjustments to their own income in line with inflationary rates , but why can’t they do same for the masses ? Why did the office of Chief of staff have an increased allocation from what it was under Buhari’s govt but same can’t be done for the masses in the workforce ?

OkpaNsukkaisBae: liveLongNprospa:I don’t even understand why they think show of force will achieve anything at this point . Only God knows who advises these people sef |
See the people una want make labour dialogue with ….. smh 🤦♂️
|
Segedinho:
|
liveLongNprospa:This one still makes sense than the nonsense Bayo Onanuga was spouting earlier . As per the bolded , while they are highlighting the labour union’s demand is 1,500% increment from the current minimum wage ; they should do well to tell us the percentage increase in general inflation rate , the percentage increase in fuel price , the percentage increase in electricity cost , the percentage increase in food inflation , etc . As regards the over 400k demand of the labour unions , every reasonable person knows it is only normal for labour to start with a higher figure before they negotiate downwards to a middle ground . Nobody expects that amount to be what the labour will insist on. |
larride:Now I agree with u. Omo! How much come be the bank capital base if one man don already move 49 billion ? |
larride:Omo , I just understood the Heritage wahala now. I just read that last year their head of IT diverted 49 billion into third party account and disappeared ; even at a time the bank was having issues with its Capital Adequacy Ratio. That bank had died a long time ago |
izzou:Dem go turn am to COVID-19 death toll count ![]() Omo! U have to give kudos to APC on top that propaganda matter, dem sabi am die! |
izzou:Miracle no dey tire Master Jesus ![]() |
larride:The more reason why I believe he's too hot-headed to be a government's official spokesperson. He doesn't address issues but dwells so much on politics. He's at best fit for a political party's spokesperson; a person in which he can attack any opposition party he so pleases. A government's official spokesperson should be cool headed, if possible a public relation expert and not necessarily a journalist who became a poltician |
larride:See ehn, there are better ways of doing the job of a government's spokesperson. It doesn't necessarily need to be about u going combative with the other party. NLC and TUC are labour unions ; Like them or hate them, their existence is guaranteed by labor laws and u will always have to deal with them on workers welfare. There's no need to start making it seem like u are ready to spar with them in a combat. A spokesperson to government should be telling a story that the government is trying its best to have the grievances of the workers addressed. Simple! This is not a time to be playing politics since we all agreed the government cannot afford to allow the strike to linger too long. |
liveLongNprospa:He never put mouth, Bayo Onanuga said NLC and TUC are members of labour party so they are only playing politics. By the time Obi put mouth, dem fit talk say na him call Ajaero on phone to declare strike ![]() They will be acting as if they are not in this country seeing how people are suffering |
liveLongNprospa:I detect the fact that they are always taking combative approach to issues that are of critical importance. The government u are acting as spokesperson for has failed to come up with something reasonable as minimum wage a year after it removed subsidy hurriedly and the country started battling hyper inflation. The labour union representing the people have decided enough is enough and the next thing u are doing as a spokesperson is to start making political statements. Smh I don't know who taught people like Onanuga that the government must always fight labour. These people don't even know they are there to serve the people and not there to lord over us. ![]() |
Spy360:There's no player Madrid cannot replace |
sod09:I really don't know what is wrong with those people. They are doing as if when labour eventually gets to negotiate something better for the works it won't affect their own members whom they claim to be speaking for. At least of they don't have anything reasonable to contribute at this moment, they should just shut up ![]() |
“It’s saddening that Labour could go to this extreme. But it is not surprising to the perceptive minds. Labour is harming the Nigerian people they claim to be fighting for. Today, many sick Nigerians cannot access medical care at government hospitals.Make una hear wetin Bayo Onanuge dey talk. Instead of making statements like" We are working to ensure issues between FG and Labour are sorted out ASAP" ; he's busy making political statements . Hear him making everything about polictics. See ehn, if NLC had only stopped at blocking NASS and secretariat ; people like Bayo Onanuga will end up using propaganda to politicize everything noni |
Itsrm:Y'all saw it coming. |
larride:This country ehn....The funny thing is even if minimum wage is increased sef, it might take more than a year for government to start paying it. That is another battle waiting ahead |
sod09:The link has expired, I only downloaded season 1 on saturday on my personal data. Help me share the link again so I can downlad season 2. And any other one wey u get again |
Itsrm:The man say he no want piece meal by piece meal rent ![]() The letter is very brief and straight forward; he even provide alternatives sef |
MURIC says no to strike. lol ![]() They should declare MURIC an arm of APC make everybody rest https://www.nairaland.com/8113360/muslims-say-no-nlc-tuc |
larride:What do u think hospital is without a doctor? I dey tell u wetin I don experience life and direct. Shebi it is the medications doctors who examine u prescribe that nurses on ground will administer. If Lab technicians are on ground, will u just carry urself to lab technician and ask them to conduct test that was not recommended by a doctor ? ![]() Baba, even if one is on admission and requires close monitoring , the moment doctors' strike happens such a person is on his own. There's little or nothing the nurses can do to help that person. Nurses are not doctors o; either u go to a private hospital or be managing the case at home ni o |
izzou:The bold is why the NLC chose that route. They know the government will not be heartless enough to allow the strike linger too long to the extent that we will have opposition media outlet start counting number of dead bodies lost to the strike on a daily basis. When I was in school I took one borrowed course in personnel management and I remember in one of the topics under the course they listed some of the methods which Labour unions adopt to press home their demands. Strike was like the last option which is adopted when all other methods have failed. You need to know how tough hearted government and employers generally are in this part of the world for Labour to always adopt strike almost every time |
