GloriousGbola: that is where you are wrong.
prepaid meters are for DOMESTIC customers domestic customers are only one segment of energy users
you have customers on transformers 11kv who use MD meters customers on 33kv transformers who use skipper panels
most of the delinquent customers are industrial level customers you can choose not to sympathize with the discos, but that does not address the fundamental problem - the power industry is capital intensive and requires significant funds
most transformers are over loaded. most distribution panels are old.
and legacy NEPA staff are also a big part of the problem. apparently the meter in my house was actually intended for the marina area. so when i was paying bills online, the funds were going to marina sales area, rather than festac. an old friend who provided consulting services fr the discos went on an investigation and found intricate and bizarre meter by pass methodologies. meter bypassing not within the house, but in the wiring from the feeder pillars
i have said it repeatedly, estimated billing is simply a crude form of theft recovery. every transformer has a meter. what the discos do is they take the meter readings in an area, take the transformer readings and pass the loss to un metered customers via crazy bills.
funnily enough my friend told me that if you have agidi and drg with them to NERC, NERC will usually rule in your favor So are u saying the Discos don’t have any way of stopping industrial consumers from getting power when they have not paid for power ? |

liveLongNprospa: Lmao.. My brother. Those things will dip very very well. They need to make profits and to do that j this current economy, something has to give well.
It's obvious Guinness has signed out from the Nigerian market. Not caring that the Nigerian people might be disappointed with what new Guinness drinks will taste like shows how insignificant our purchasing power is😥 To make profit , they only need to tighten the noose on some cost center within the organization. They will cut down on CSR , u probably won’t see Guinness sponsoring some programs like they used to do in the past, they won’t pay new staff as competitive as they ought to, they may cancel provisions for gratuity for new staff , they may review the level of staff who get official vehicles going forward , etc. Most of the things they will do will affect the internal stakeholders and not the product itself . U know Guinness produces orijin bitters, for example they may come up with more spin off spirit drinks like orijin sef |

liveLongNprospa: The quality of those drinks about to dippppppp😁 I don’t think the quality of the product will dip. I believe the fact that they will still be manufacturing Guinness stout and other associated products under the Guinness brand name/license the quality will still be same. But be rest assured they will compromise on other things that relates to staff welfare , maybe regulatory issues , unionism ,gratuity etc. which Diageo will no longer have control over . Only insider stakeholders will really feel such changes . |

I spoke earlier about Nigeria transitioning from a socialist economy to a capitalist economy.
This is one of the worst legacies of military rule. The delusion that being some sort of govt parastatal or govt affiliated agency entitles you to free electricity.
Different agencies and bodies are bullying discos and refusing to pay their energy bills.
It is bad enough that most discos are running on broken subsidues. But then you have to add the burden of aggressive delinquent customers.
The problem of power in Nigeria is not an engineering problem. It is a finance problem. You want to spend billions replacing old and decrepit infrastructure - that's fine. But how do you recoup your investment when you have customers who have been weaned on the delusion of cheap electricity? All this long talk can be sorted out if the Discos provide prepaid meter for their customers . Let the disco migrate the government agencies to prepaid meter and let’s see if they won’t find ways to recharge their meter to have light on. Myself for example when I used to get crazy bills which I pay as much as I can and leave the rest . When they migrated me to prepaid meter , I cleared the balance on the crazy bill and I ended up not consuming up to 1/5 of the estimated billing even on heavy usage atimes. Let the discos stop the nonsense of estimated billing , let the people pay for what they use via prepaid meter recharge and let’s see if the Discos can actually make profit. I have zero pity for discos . I see them as Shylock business people who didn’t buy the discos because there was prospect of clean profit , but wanted to build on the old NEPA format of using estimated billing to inflate customers’ bills |

Microsoft has refuted rumors that it plans to shut down its Nigerian operations, following last month’s speculations that the tech giant was contemplating closing its Lagos innovation center due to concerns over the country’s business climate. The rumored shutdown was believed to potentially impact around 200 employees.
Olatomiwa Williams, Microsoft’s country manager for Nigeria, addressed these rumors in a meeting with the Nigerian minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy in Abuja. Mohammed Manga, the ministry’s director of information and public relations, briefed the press on the discussions between the minister and Microsoft representatives.
Manga conveyed that the managing director assured the minister of Microsoft’s dedication to its Nigerian operations, dispelling the recent speculations. Williams highlighted Microsoft’s eagerness to collaborate with the Nigerian government on shared interests such as cybersecurity and youth skills development. But why can't Microsoft just issue a statement/press release to address the issue? This one that it is our minister's spokesperson that is reporting what was discussed at the meeting. Our politicians and their appointees don't inspire confidence when they report outcomes of such closed door meetings, that was how Ajuri wrongly announced in September that it was agreed in the meeting between Tinubu and the UAE leader that Visa Ban has been lifted. |

Itsrm: I remember reading somewhere that Uba Sani wasn't El Rufais candidate initially. He only agreed to support him after much persuasion from party leaders. Perhaps, the foundation was faulty from the start.
Maybe those who follow Kaduna politics closely can enlighten us. Kaduna 2023: El-Rufai anoints Uba Sani
Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna State, the number of persons aspiring to succeed Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reduced as the Governor has anointed Senator Uba Sani and directed other aspirants to support him.
A former Commissioner in Kaduna State who had aspired to contest the Governorship election under the All Progressives Congress ( APC) ,Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, has expressed that his earlier ambition was to succeed Governor El-Rufa’i in 2023 but they were directed to step down for Senator Uba Sani.
Kaduna was in a celebratory mood by friends and political associates of Senator Uba Sani on Thursday, as news filtered that the Senator representing Kaduna Central, was given the nod by Governor El-Rufai.
According to reports, El-Rufai had at a meeting on Wednesday, compelled his former Chief of Staff and two-times former Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Muhammed Sani Abdullahi, popularly known as Dattijo, to shelve his ambition for the governorship and pick the form for Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
In a statement, Dattijo explained that at a meeting on Wednesday morning, the Governor directed that they rally round Senator Uba Sani for the Governorship seat. He however lamented that the Governor had asked “that I pick up the form for the Senatorial seat for Kaduna Central. While this outcome is not what we have planned or hoped for, we have accepted it as Allah SWT’s will provide to whom he wishes, when he wishes.“Therefore we have entrusted our future to Him and prayed the State and the Nation will have the best of leaders in 2023. Maybe he was not his original candidate sha, but whatever must have made him annoint him ahead of others showed he he definitely preferred him to others. One was a Benin man who died in our area; the day of his wake keep overnight ehn, they were just singing mostly sorrowful songs all through the night while drinking and hitting beer bottles with a stick to create sad melody to the dirge. The second one was an Igbo man who died in his 40's. The man's relatives all through the Wake keeping overnight sang and drank with Merry. I found it quite strange cos u know as Yoruba's we felt such death do not call for much fanfare . It took growing up for me to understand different people have different culture.
