The real lesson here is we should not defend or celebrate impunity or working outside of process for any case. Today it is a person we dislike or who has issues, but tomorrow it could be an innocent civilian

Whether the common man celebrates EFCC's harassment of a politically exposed person or not, it has no significant bearing on their conduct.

What matters most is for the government to put up measures to keep EFCC and other security agencies on the leash. The way the government always ensure police officers caught harassing/extorting members of the public are named and shamed, same should be applied to EFCC officials.

When there are reports of EFCC breaking into private estates, breaking people's doors and destroying their properties only to find out they are not criminals; government should punish the EFCC team responsible for this impunity the same way they publicly dismiss police officers. They shouldn't allow the EFCC guys to keep getting away with that nonsense.

They should stop paying lip service to keeping EFCC officers in line. I remember at some point they claim EFCC officials have been banned from carrying out night raids at people's homes but till date EFCC still raid people's houses, hotels, clubs and parties in the dead of the night. When they break into people's houses, they don't show up with search warrants instead they claim their ID card is enough warrant to allow them to turn your house upside down. When they eventually tear your residence apart without finding any incriminating evidence, they just move on to the next house without doing anything about your assets they damaged.

Why does EFCC keep doing this nonsense and getting away with it? Just look at the Very ridiculous reason they came up with for assaulting the surgeon. Initially I even thought maybe the man embezzled funds and was evading arrest ; hence why they stormed the hospital in commando style.

If the surgeon decides to move abroad due to this trauma now, our yeye House of Assembly will say they want to pass a law to stop health workers from japa.

The problem however is religious populism. You can be sure if a governor axes pilgrimage it will be used against him in political campaigns. The man will be cursed every Friday sermon.

The best a strong willed governor can do is wait until his second term - but that will likely tank the party in the next election because the opposition (even if they also see pilgrimage as a waste of money) will jump on it. Best a wise governor can do is shrink it slowly.

It's only in states that carry religion for head. Do you want to tell me that if a state like Delta or Bayelsa choose not to sponsor pilgrimage while explaining the reason is paucity of funds, the citizens will start cussing the governor?

I am simply looking at it from the perspective of over 3500 Katsina Muslims being helped by their government to fulfill a major aspect of their religion. That is why I said I can’t begrudge a program helping thousands of citizens when we have seen public funds wasted on things that benefited absolutely nobody.

To me it’s similar to the government distributing sewing machines to over 1,000 youths. You can debate priorities but it’s still a program directly benefiting actual people.

How can you equate sponsoring hajj which is a major source of capital flight & repatriation of Forex to presenting sewing machines to citizens? Can't you see the glaring false equivalence? Nobody said Hajj trips will solve insecurity or poverty. In the SW, maybe na Lautech or Ekiti State University fit admit student wey score below 200.
Then in the SE, it would schools like ESUT, IMSU, or UNIZIK that would accept a below 200 JAMB score

Even those schools will not give admission to students who score below 200 for competitive courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering , Law, Accountancy, etc.

Na mostly Education courses and some less competitive Art courses they may consider those who score below 200. And let's not forget that most of them will still do Post-UTME after which they will set a high cut-off mark of their own to sieve the candidates they will offer admission at the end of the day.

I get if someone promises to make you rich spiritually, collects money from you and then he didn't fulfil his promise. For that you can always charge such person for obtaining money by false pretense since you lost money to his scam. But how do you charge someone who brought people to deceive you that they restored someone's sight when he wasn't blind? If there was no exchange of money between the congregation that believe and the scammer pastor, how do you charge him with the law?

Some of these things Soludo is doing, he is only getting away with it because nobody has really sued the Anambra state government for false imprisonment and violating their fundamental human rights.

I wonder what law he will claim they broke by preaching gospel of ‘salvation without the cross’. The whole just don't make much sense because freedom is a fundamental human right that is guaranteed in the constitution. Whatever state law Soludo may have had the state house of assembly to pass on the issue of pastors and what they preach, such laws will always be trumped by the fundamental human right to religion that is guaranteed by the constitution.

I don't think it is in the place of a governor to decide what people believe in and how a particular religion chooses to conduct themselves once they are obeying the law while practicing whatever they believe. I think Soludo is just letting his own personal religious beliefs force him to dictate what others believe in.

I am very certain if a number of some of those arrested by the state security outfit sue the state government, they are sure to get judgement in their favour.

PS: I am not saying fake pastor should be allowed to thrive o. I am only saying the terrain Soludo is trending is one that cannot be dealt with bullish force because that is almost going to be illegal when tested in a law court
