MrPRevailer: You are over-exaggerating about dancing. But i'll let that pass for now. Dancing is not a sin, We don't expose our bodies even when we dance. But in many churches women flaunt their laps and chests like it's nothing to be ashamed of. Are we not much better? Yes we are..in the sight of God.
As for soul winning, The Lord's Chosen is one of the fastest growing churches in the world. I laugh in spiritual powers when you speak of soul winning. God is by himself bringing many people to Chosen.
Evangelism is the heart beat of God. No church does evangelism frequently like The Lord's Chosen in Nigeria. If you can't beat us join us. Remember God sets abase the proud but lifts the humble. When it comes to evangelism, your church does not come close to churches like the Roman Catholic and Jehovah's Witness. Not a chance, bro. It is not by shouting or clowning. Paul made extensive missionary journeys without screaming. |

There is a difference between managing 150 unproductive cows and humans with business enterprise. And what happened after the documents on restructuring were forwarded? You people think restructuring started today? Why does restructuring not feature in his agenda when he talks in the North? |

MrPRevailer: Are you an unbeliever too? Unbeliever laugh, mock, despise, persecute, scorn Christians and mostly those that are true disciples of Jesus Christ
So if you say we are Mad or we are Merry, both are correct. To some unbelievers we are Mad, but in the sight of true believers, we are Merry. None of the disciples of Jesus nor Christ Himself were ever found dancing madly like idol worshippers or mentally ill people. Even Egungun masquerades apply some discipline and self-control when they dance. You people are making a mockery of the body of Christ. Instead of winning souls by spreading the gospel, you are dancing shamelessly and making a mockery of yourselves in front of those you ought to be bringing to the Way. Show me anywhere in the Bible where it is said that dancing and behaving in a rowdy manner are signs to unbelievers? Instead of converting them, they would laugh at you. We have been charged to be sober-minded. But you people are going about behaving like mental cases. |

daveP: lol. I knew this would come up.
That verse is about expressing the spiritual gifts without love.
Not just about love.
Paul.had issues with the Corinthian Christians cos they seem very expressive with gifts but lacked love.
I.e if you speak the two kinds of tongues but lack love, then you are wasted.
"Though i" Smh... The verse is not about expressing spiritual gift without love. It rubbished spiritual gift possessed in the absence of love. Didn't you do comprehension passages in school? The whole chapter which contained that verse is about love. Read a version of that verse: If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. This is the third verse of that chapter: If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. This is the fourth verse of that chapter: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. |

daveP: 1st Corinthians 13v1.
Youre the one being comical.
Why cos instead of disproving with scriptures that it is wrong you are just laughing and jesting upandan. Chai. You try o. Gaaan. Let me tell you something. The Bible appears to be weak because of you Christians who read it selectively. When you read the Bible selectively, you make the Bible say whatever you want it to say. This was exactly what the Devil did when he tried to tempt Jesus. He was quoting the Bible selectively. The best way to understand the Bible is not to just lift verses because they contain the words you are looking for. Supposing you are looking for tithes, don't just latch on a verse simply because it contains tithe. If possible, read the whole chapter to have a better grasp of why tithe was mentioned in that particular verse. Many Christians make it seem like the Bible can be manipulated by anybody. They create this idea in the minds of unbelievers because of the lazy and carnal methods they use in reading the scriptures. |

SmithRussell: Speaking in a language no one understands is not of the Bible. . That's where the interpreter comes in. . So at least, one person understands what is being said; sadly we don't do that in many churches. . And that is a greater sign to unbelievers than just prophecy. But nevertheless, the fact that there is no interpreter doesn't mmake the gift fake, does it?
Back to yhur question: The essence of speaking in unknown tongues (mysteries) is to talk to God when yhu are alone, or prophesy in the church with the help of an interpreter You people are getting many things wrong with my post. I have not passed off speaking in tongues as fake. My concern is the usefulness and the basic disregard for how Paul asked us to use it. What is happening today where people abuse this gift happened in the Early Church as well and Paul had a lot to say about speaking in tongues without interpreters. Without mincing words, he picked prophesying over the speaking in tongues without interpreters. The essence of a gift is to edify the church. When you pray privately, you are edifying yourself. But we are not to speak in tongues without interpreters when we meet as a church. |

A case of you mot meditating on the word is what your just displayed. You people are comedians So, you just think it is enough to say there are two kinds of speaking in tongues and everyone should just swallow it like that. Abeg, provide evidences. Jesus did not just tell the Devil that he was wrong. Jesus used Bible verses to counter the Devil. Show me Bible verses, don't just tell me that I am wrong. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Do People Who Speak In Tongues Fake It Or Understand It? by BluntBoy(m): 1:54pm On Feb 10, 2019 |
Speaking in tongues is the most abused gift of the Spirit.
The idea that you can use it anyhow without considering the church is the very reason why it is so abused.
You will hear choir mistresses and masters reverting to strange tongues while ministering. You will hear pastors reverting to strange tongues as they preached or prayed for a person or the congregation.
Paul described this abuse as akin to speaking mysteries (that would be lost to the rest of the church). What is the essence then if only God understands you? You should better speak it privately to God rather than wasting your saliva and disturbing the rest of the worshippers. Self-edification is not a bad thing, ordinarily.
This is unlike prophesying which edifies the church, rather than edifies the self.
He who prophesies is said to be greater than he who speaks in tongues (without an interpreter) because he who prophesies edifies the church while he who speaks in tongues without an interpreter edifies himself alone. |

SmithRussell: Yhu don't really know much about, I see!
There's speaking in tongues of men, like an Ibo man being led to minister in Azari. . . and there's speaking in tongues of angels - which no one understands but God. .
Apostle Paul in Corinthians talked about the two types of tongue.
So, I believe in speaking in tongues of angels; I don't speak in tongues; so whether it's being faked or not, I can't tell. . What is the essence of speaking in a language that no one understands? One purpose of speaking in tongues is to serve as a sign to unbelievers. Imagine you have a message for unbelievers and you start speaking in tongues that are strange to them, would they get your message? Ever wondered why Paul said that those who prophesy are greater than those who speak in tongues? |

No quote me again, I'm tired of this pointless argument. Shalom! When you won't read. Go and check my first post to you. I mentioned corporate worship and even mentioned public prayers. If it were personal prayers, no one would hear anyone speaking in tongues, so don't try to play smart with me. |

ehissi: I don't understand this? At the expense?
What does it cost a church if a minister, intermittently worships in tongues? Is it wrong to be edified, blessed even as you minister to others?
What if a vast majority of the church speaks in tongues? At whose expense does this happen? But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately. (1 Corinthians 14:28) And mind you, the vast majority of the church is not expected to speak in tongues, at least not at the same time. There are guidelines. No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. (1 Corinthians 14:27) |
Christianity Etc › Re: Do People Who Speak In Tongues Fake It Or Understand It? by BluntBoy(m): 12:11pm On Feb 10, 2019 |
dguyindcorner: Lol. When you speak in tongues, you're not supposed to be talking to the congregation but to God. I'm not talking about prophesying brother. 1Corinthians 14:2 says, “For he who speaks in a ‘tongue’ addresses God, not man; no one understands him; he is talking of divine secrets in the Spirit” Bro, you are refusing to understand simple English. I just told you (with a Bible verse) that when you are a part of a corporate worship, your gifts should be for the edification of the church, not just yourself. If you are alone, you can speak in tongues without an interpreter. But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately. (1 Corinthians 14:28) Your gift is not for you alone, but for the whole church. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Do People Who Speak In Tongues Fake It Or Understand It? by BluntBoy(m): 11:52am On Feb 10, 2019 |
dguyindcorner:
New International Version Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.
New Living Translation A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.
English Standard Version The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.
Berean Study Bible The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.
So what's your point or you just want to argue for nothing? You are being selective, and this won't build you at all. If you read my first post to you, you would see that I wrote that speaking in tongues (without an interpreter) in a corporate gathering is a waste. The Bible verse you quoted does not stand in isolation. It is a part of a sermon Paul gave on speaking in tongues and prophesying. Paul believed that prophesying is superior to speaking in tongues without an interpreter. Of course, the essence of spiritual gifts is to edify the church, which is why it is useless to be speaking in tongues without an interpreter. Read this verse: If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God. (1 Corinthians 14:28) |
