THE NSCDC OFFICER BEHIND THE VIRAL “OGA AT THE TOP” REMARK PROMOTED TO DEPUTY COMMANDANT-GENERAL OF NSCDC.

Shem Obafiaye, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who made the viral “Oga At The Top” remark, has been promoted to the rank of deputy commandant-general.

In 2013, Obafiaye, who was then the Lagos commandant of the NSCDC, appeared as a guest on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television breakfast programme, and stuttered when he was asked to provide the website of the NSCDC.

“The website is… excuse me… wait… it can only be made known by my Oga at the top,” he said, with an index finger pointing skywards and a broad smile to boot.

But there was more after he was pressed to elucidate by the show hosts.

“I cannot categorically tell you one now and my Oga at the top would give you another one,” he added.

‘Oga At The Top’ went viral afterwards and hit the streets to rip-roaring effect.

The phrase instantly became a meme, morphed into danceable tunes for club goers, skit makers could not get enough of it, and it was emblazoned on T-shirts, complete with a caricature of the man behind it all.

Obafiaye was redeployed from the Lagos command of the NSCDC shortly afterwards.

Ten years on and ‘Oga At The Top’ is getting a promotion.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, decorated Obafiaye alongside two of his colleagues — Fasiu Adeyinka, ex-Kwara commandant; and Raji, former Imo commandant; as deputy commandants-general.

“As the chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I decorated the three new Deputy Commandants General of the NSCDC,”
The minister said on Wednesday.

When TheCable checked the NSCDC website while this story was being filed, the following message was boldy written on the homepage: ‘This website is under construction’.

On December 1, the federal government approved the promotion of 32,361 personnel of all ranks in the parastatals under the ministry of interior.

these resignation shows that Fubara is now in charge of his office unlike before where Wike was in charged.
those commissioners where all selected by Wike and they answer only to him.
in a nutshell Wike is their boss and not fubara.
all of them including the state governor supposed to be Wike's puppet where Wike controls everything.
but along the line, the executive governor broke out with Wike so technically those his commissioners being selected by Wike can't be loyal to him because they answer to Wike.
that's what prompted the mass resignation.
it simply means that Fubara is now in charged.
he has signed the budget and have legitimate Speaker under him so technically their oga has been schemed out.
Their resignation is actually ceremonial because even if they don't fubara can't work with them knowing fully well where their loyalty lies.
so it's either they pledge loyalty to him or resign.
those guys are just commoners so they don't have the audacity to disobey Wike.

You brought your own confusion when you said there are two minimums when you referred to “Minimum for chartered and minimum for non-chartered.”


So,, if there is any of those categories of minimums that is the lowest,, that is the actual minimum wage.

Other higher minimums are not minimum wage.

The answer, Blunt is there on what I responded. Depends on a lot of factors.

The minimum you should pay a chartered entry level is definitely different from the minimum you should pay a non-chartered.

Minimum Wage is the most minimum of all minimums.
Thus, the lowest possible pay which should be paid to most minimally paid employee.

Chattered persons are not placed at “minimum wage”.


Nigeria is yet to have established labour laws.
