Electronic Voting is far far better than Mail-in Ballots..

Mail-in Ballots shouldn't even be considered in our electoral system at-all..

This write-up is Not in any way considering Mail-in Ballots as a viable option either.

Where is that coming from?
Some highly-placed people were urging INEC to consider the “Mail-in Ballot System” for Nigerian voters outside Nigeria, just the way USA did.

I will continue to have thoughts similar to this.

I have never stopped having such thoughts..
And I don't think I will stop it anytime soon..
**(That is, after what I have seen and observed in the just-concluded General Elections..)
Politics › It's Hightime We Give The “Realtime Remote Voting System” Just One Chance by BluntCrazeMan(op):
In order to save lives, and to minimize the unnecessary physical encounters between the innocent voters and some evil-minded violent political thugs; a reliable remote system of voting -- which is quick and immediate in delivery -- is highly recommended.

Let me beging this brief write-up by letting us know that “Mail-in Ballots system” is not quick and immediate in its delivery,, and thus, should be highly discouraged.. (even though it is a remote system of voting).

This is because, after the process of mailing-in the ballots, it will have to undergo some delays before getting to the electoral commission for them to get counted.

Thus, Mail-in Ballots shouldn't be counted as part of the REALTIME REMOTE VOTING Options..

Let us first understand what “Realtime Remote Voting” actually entails, then we can explore the various options that can make such methods achievable.

“Realtime Voting” means that: once you cast your vote, it is counting Immediately.. It wouldn't have to wait for it to be counted later. NO..
Your vote is being acknowledged and then counted by the Electoral Commission immediately the vote is being cast.

“Remote Voting” means that: You can vote from anywhere.. You must not go to the localized polling-units. You can even vote from outside the country.

**(I purposely expunged the words “Online” and “Electronic” from the Topic-Title, but in reality, “Realtime-Voting” and “Remote-Voting” cannot be achieved without having to explore Online and Electronic options.)

Thus, in order to achieve this, more funds should be put into developing highly efficient and very effective and secured electioneering softwares and apps, which would be downloaded by the potential voters on their preferred devices and/or gadgets..

These developed softwares should also have the bimodal verification powers of the BVAS, (even having more facial-recognition-capacity and finger-print-sensitivity than the BVAS), and also, the Voting on the App should re-confirm that the accredited Finger-print was the actual Finger-print that voted (or else, the vote-casting would be voided for having different finger-prints attempting to vote). Then also, facial recognition shouldn't be a replaceable option while doing the remote voting.
Both Finger-print and Facial recognition accreditation must be involved.

This Realtime Remote Voting Option does not cancel-out the traditional methods of voting.

There should be localized polling-units where Realtime Electronic Accreditation and Voting should be going on using the “Electronic Voting Machines”.

Then, there should also be paper-ballot systems at such localized polling-units for the sake of those ones who couldn't use the Remote Options and the Localized Realtime Options.

The accreditation gadgets at the localized polling-units for the paper-ballot-system should be able to detect all the voters who had already voted using any of the Realtime Options, and it should promptly reject them with phrases similar to: “This Voter had already been accredited for voting, and his casted vote had been received by the commission”.

One thing with this system is that, since there are varied sources of votes to be counted and collated, it clearly means that MANUAL COLLATION IS NOT GOING TO BE NEEDED ANY LONGER..

Even the votes that were cast with the Paper-ballot-system should also be Electronically Transmitted and Electronically Collated too, and then combined with all the Realtime Votes, before the final results can be produced.

To query the elections that were conducted in this manner,, A forensic inspection of both the accreditation-data and all the various results input modes highly required.

All alterations that occured due to hacking, spy-bots, and all other forms of cyber-attacks should be thoroughly identified during the forensic inspection, and be probed accordingly at the Election Tribunal.

saferesearchs:
As someone who consults for organizations and several individuals on academic and professional research.

I can tell you of the excitement I got when I found out about ChatGPT in November, but this excitement was short-lived because of a serious discovery that could not make me ever use this technology on client work which I am privileged to work on.

The honest truth is that we are all lazy, including the expert too, and having a tool that seems to fix that looks like a relief, but as a senior colleague told me, work will continue to work even with or without the tool. My first discovery was from a work that I thought I have finished fast and after passing it to our standard and compliance department. It has to be returned because it was obviously a lazy job.

You heard that right, not just human that is lazy but AI too, many of the words were just repeated over again. Which was terrible. Doing proper academic research will never have resulted in that.

Second is that the tool was never designed to be used for academic or professional research as it has no reference nor the source original. So this thereby doubles the work of then looking for the material it source, yet the plagiarism is high.

The third which I will rap up to another day is that it is not designed to be perfect many research works are often specific and this tool is just not going to understand that. I could remember asking it obvious details about the CEO of OpenAI the company that designed it and missing it. So relying on such for your academic research can be a disaster, and finally, remember the model it is working with is not updated so you want to desist from using such tools and rather do it yourself or consult a professional.

In conclusion, I am not de-selling the efficacy of the tools. I think it is really powerful and can have a lot of impacts but just trying to enlight you that this generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) with the limited response should not replace during proper research if you want to contribute to the tree of knowledge in your discipline
GPT-4 is out..

Study it and tell us more about its strength and efficiency.

Electronic Voting on national level cannot be compared with local election within a state. Reason is that this electronics have more than 500000 ways of manipulating it. Believe you mean, the memory slot where the votes are store can be manually changed, hacked or destroyed remotely. Moreso, results can be intercepted during transmission. There are tons of loopholes desperate politicians can exploit to manipulate results. The Government might also collude with INEC to pre-programmed to favor a candidate.

Judging from the attacks on irev portal in the recent president election, report has it that there was more than 10000000 attacks on a single day. Now factor that big electronic distributed in about 180000 Polling units, imagine the different alterations, disruptions and manipulations that can be deployed to favor a politician?

Oga we need National reorientation..... Not this big big machine
Sir.,, the problem with every Nigerian policy and innovations is that, “The policy-makers are always assuming that the People are all good people..”
None of the Policies or innovations were made with enough strong and tight checks-and-balances put in place in order to prevent the policies to be used wrongly, or even implemented wrongly by the government.

Politics › Kaduna State Held LG Polls In 2018 And In 2021 Using Electronic Voting Machines by BluntCrazeMan(op): 10:03pm On Mar 20, 2023
KADUNA HOLDS LG POLLS USING ELECTRONIC VOTING..
(Date: 4th Sept, 2021)

For the second time since 2018, Kaduna State is using electronic voting machines for its local government elections.

The chairmanship and councillorship election is currently holding in 19 out of the 23 local government areas of the state.

The use of this innovative technology, according to the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, is to ensure a transparent and credible process.

This makes Kaduna the first state in Nigeria to adopt electronic voting and the second sub-national government in Africa to achieve such feat after Namibia.

Voting is underway in many polling units across the 19 local government areas of Kaduna state. Although election materials arrived as late as 10:00 a.m. in some of the polling units, the exercise is currently going on smoothly with the use of the electronic voting machine.

Also, there is massive deployment of security operatives in the polling units and flashpoints within the state to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) earlier on Friday announced the postponement of the election in four local government areas due to insecurity.

The affected local governments are Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Zango Kataf, and Kajuru, and the electoral commission said the election is planned to hold on September 25, 2021, after security might have been improved.

Politics › Re: Over-voting Had Been Defeated; But Vote-Manipulations Are Yet To Be Defeated by BluntCrazeMan(op): 9:40pm On Mar 20, 2023
wilyparker:
how does CSRVS work?
According to INEC..
Once the Presiding Officer finished announcing the Results to the hearing of everyone, he should enter the figures inside the Results Sheet, stamp and sign it, and let party agents that are present to sign the sheet too.

Then, he should open the Electronic Transmission portal on the BVAS, and use his own hands to enter the votes that were scored by the parties into the portal in front of everyone present (in front of party agents and voters), and then send.

This manually-entered results that got transmitted by the Presiding Officer would be gathered inside the CSRVS System for immediate automatic online Collation.

Then after the transmission of the results, he should take a picture of the same signed and stamped result-sheet, and then upload the photos to the IREV Portal for people to view.

The results that are on the IREV are not collated.

The CSRVS has the results inside them already collated.

Yes, a fingerprint-recognition touchscreen would be perfect but we can manage without it.

The idea is once BVAS has successfully accredited you, a touchscreen opens up with pictures of Candidates/Party Logo.
You simply vote by touching your candidate, which is immediately captured & transmitted.

A plug-in printer can even be attached to print out your choice (for the ballot box)
Would there be need for the ballot box again.??

BVAS/IREV has been the game-changer. But we need to improve by adapting BVAS to capture thumbprints for electronic voting.
This BVAS has touch-screen though..
But the Touch-Screen is not Finger-print sensitive..

That is, if someone else comes to vote in place of someone that had just been accredited for voting, the Touch-Screen voting-device will detect that the Finger-print belong to someone else, and would refuse to accept the voting..

We need such a high-sensitive finger-print device for Electronic Voting.
