Simeonjoe1: OK... But he mentioned sustainable development, but to reach that import restriction is one policy to explore, yeah security, infrastructure are also others... Other country already has far comparative advantage more than you, it might take years or even decades to meet up and your price to be competitive and low as theirs so till then you're already at disadvantage selling at higher price hence the reason for high local cost.... When you import cheaper for that same product you create a strong competition for local products and if care is not taken you can close local products as it'll not be sustainable.
When you improve tarrif and tax on imports then prices goes up hence your purpose of cutting inflation is defeated. This is Nigeria, there's no fixed prices for anything. Producers moves prices as they deem fit, if imported rice are sold 40k local rice will also increase their prices too, so where back to our quagmire. Bro,, you just explained the current situation of the country. But the thing is this... Macro economics is very dynamic. Every single activity by any single individual has an impact in the economy. The current Government doesn't understand this. They only pay attention to the big businesses,, and to the petroleum economy, thinking that only these activities are moving our economy. They neglected the little businesses. And made Policies that didn't favour them. So, in order to continue to survive, they started fluctuating the prices, and formed unions where they peg the prices. Thus, the prices of goods in Nigeria are not determined by the international or market dynamics, but by the unions that are in-charge of such goods in question. They formed their own prices, and they too affect macro-economics of Nigeria. But the Government seemed not to notice that these market unions are in existence. MEANWHILE,, REMOVING ARTIFICIAL INFLUENCES AND IMPOSED DYNAMICS IN THE NATURAL MARKET DYNAMICS IS WHAT PETER-OBI IS PROMISING TO BRING...
THAT IS,, A VERY STABLE MARKET FOR ALL THE GOODS AND SERVICES - (INCLUDING THE FOREIGN-EXCHANGE MARKET TOO)...
BY THEN, EVERY PART OF THE ECONOMY BECOMES STABLE, TRANSPARENT, TRUSTWORTHY, AND PROFITABLE..
THIEVES AND STEALERS WOULD NATURALLY STAY AWAY FROM THE SYSTEM... BROAD DAYLIGHT LOOTING WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST.. THAT ONE IS FOR SURE. |

abbeyfel: I read through your comment and couldn't deduce what you were actually trying to say That locally produced commodities are costlier than imported ones? Can you put such comparison side by side for us who don't know to know please? Which local produced dey more expensive than it's imported counterparts.
Is Peter Obi currently producing any product in Nigeria that we can call a truly Nigerian brand with all the billions he has thus far? Why has he been so much into importation in contrast to the production of products locally? I'm not saying investing in a business that produces locally, but actually owing one or more! So what is he (Peter Obi) really saying? Where did he get the experience to do what he says to do?
This is how most politicians start off on the wrong note! Having a blueprint you have never tested anywhere, or even been part of working such idea(s) before. It looks good on paper doesn't mean it will work. There are forces you sure have not met, so this promise should just be held as a pinch of salt!
Peace bro I was once arguing with someone; that a person who has a company which purchases heads and bunches of palm-nuts from farmers and finally makes palm-oil out of it might not be regarded as a farmer,, but he sure is into Agricultural Production. The person was seriously arguing that if the person doesn't have his own farm where the palm-nuts are produced, then he can only see himself as an Agricultural Businessman, and not into Agricultural Production per-se. But then.. My argument is in the “Value Chain”. He must not own a manufacturing company before he must be counted as a producer. If his company is involved in the wholesale or middlemen-distribution of locally-produced goods, then he is part of the production. Before we proceed further, please I would like to know whether we are still arguing that a person’s company must be the “manufacturing company” before such a company can be counted as a part of the production line |

Every part of the “Value Chain”, starting from the production of the raw materials, to the “conversion” of the raw materials to finished goods, to the selling of the finished goods to the final consumers, are all parts of the “Production” line. So tell me, someone who has a mega-store that sells all types of wares, both imported and locally-produced goods, is now the problem of Nigeria? Let me come even... Between locally produced goods and imported goods, which one should be costlier? (You know the answer naa..) (So, tell me why locally produced goods are costlier in Nigeria, despite all the customs taxes on imported goods).. Now, a businessman who saw all these, and got convinced deep within himself that something must be very wrong with the system itself, for it to even be possible that “imported goods are cheaper than locally produced goods, despite all the costs of the importation itself, and the taxes that were imposed on imported goods”, and he told himself the truth... And decided to come and help in fixing it. But then, he found out that the people who are running the system are the problem with the system., and thus, he cannot fix the system from outside the system. He must enter into the system and start the cleansing process from the inside. The Nigerian System as it is currently, it doesn't favour small manufacturers. Peter Obi wants to help these small manufacturers. This is him thinking about others.

Obaofaba: Peter Obi is a fraud cc .
I have a brutal question for the so called obidient people. Please be sincere to your God while answering this question:
If Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the one who mismanaged anambra state the way Peter Obi did, will you be campaigning for him?
With mismanagement, I mean:
Washed road constructed due to erosion
Tribal and religious bigot
Strike by both medical doctors and ASUU
No visible achievement
Lies
Pandora paper indictments
Using state fund for family business; Hero beer
Sworn never to leave apga (lack integrity)
Grew poverty from 25% to more than 50%
You claimed atiku is a thief yet he was his running mate three years ago.
Claimed not to be corrupt but he's one of those that ground this country. Same or worst than anyone else.
No manifesto
No ideology
No structure
Has soft spot for ipob
In my opinion, the only way anyone will vote for Obi is because he is an Igbo man not because of his performance and that's not right because he'll be coming to throw Nigeria into security, economy, political and religious crisis. Everyone reasonable enough must help stop him.
You said you don't want a Tinubu to lead and you are voting an Obi? Sorry dear your vote is worthless than rejected votes. Because of sentimental politics some people are playing, Atiku chances is getting slimmer by the day.

Peter Obi Finally Explains His Popular Mantra: “From Consumption To Production”BREAKING DOWN THE CONCEPT OF CONSUMPTION TO PRODUCTION. This is our envisaged path from consumption to production for Nigeria.
We have a three-tracked plan aimed at achieving the Goal-12 of the SDG, namely: “Ensuring Sustainable Consumption And Production Patterns.”
First, our focus will be on agriculture and production-centered growth for food security and export, with more emphasis on exporting finished products instead of commodities and raw materials. This relates mainly with food and textiles. Nigeria has over 84 million hectares of arable land. And barely 40% of our arable land is cultivated today. Nigeria’s arable land is her new oil and gold.
Second, pursuant to Goal-9 of the SDGs, our administration will from its inception, continue to encourage investment in infrastructure - energy, transport, irrigation, and telecoms— in order to grow these and other sectors.
We are eager to quickly close the infrastructure gap between now and 2030. We will expand the frontiers of financial inclusion to ensure that SMEs have greater access to credit to grow.
We will work with financial institutions to improve their ability to identify credit worthy borrowers; and support inventory financing, which will help to unlock finance for SMEs dealing with high account receivables.
We will enforce the legal framework protecting foreign investors and their indigenous partners. This is the only way to tamper monopoly and capital flight.
Third, as a nation, Nigeria must look beyond oil. We therefore, intend to leapfrog Nigeria from oil to the Fourth Industrial Revolution by expanding physical infrastructure through market-driven reforms that will unleash growth-enabling entrepreneurship and market-creating innovations. To ensure sustainability and resilience, we will stop borrowing for consumption. All loans must be invested in regenerative projects. We shall pursue a drastic reduction in cost of governance and corruption; improve ease of doing business to attract Foreign Direct Investment to jumpstart industrialization; and when borrowing is unavoidable, it will be strictly for production.
It is also imperative that henceforth, we should strive to operate within available resources and strive for a balanced national budget as cost saving measures.
Whatever oil we still have will be refined domestically. These measures along with ending the leakages, -- including the subsidy regime -- and improving our tax regime should do the magic of moving Nigeria from consumption to production.

COURT SENTENCES IGP TO 3 MONTHS IN PRISON...
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to three months in prison for disobeying a valid court order.
The court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice M. O. Olajuwon, held that the IGP should be committed to prison and detained in custody for a period of three months, or until he obeys an order it made since October 21, 2011.
“If at the end of the three months, the contemnor remains recalcitrant and still refuses to purge his contempt, he shall be committed for another period and until he purges his contempt”, the court held.
The IGP’s committal followed a suit that was filed by a police officer, Mr. Patrick Okoli, who was unlawfully and compulsorily retired from the Nigerian Police Force.
Justice Olajuwon noted that though the Police Service Commission, PSC, recommended Okoli’s reinstatement into the Police, a decision that was affirmed by the court, the IGP, refused to comply with the order.
The court had also ordered the payment of N10million to the Applicant, being special and general damages for the unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional denial of his rights and privileges as a Senior Officer of the Nigeria Police Force from 1993 till date. sreamsense: Unfortunately, obi is not well equipped for the top position. He is just full of theory, there is no way obi can be packaged to meet present requirements. We don't need his warehouse economic at moment. Trial and error governance will not help Nigeria now. Tell obi to go and queue for more years, he can't just take shortcut to Aso rock. Keep you sympathy about Tinubu and rather sympathize with obi on how he keeps comming with fake statistics on vital issue related to governance.
It means if he becomes president, he will only keep transmitting lies for free download about governance. As little as Anambra is, we can't see any tangible things he has done and most of what he claimed to have done are rubbished with facts in his presence. Even blinds and dumbs can confirm wonderful things Tinubu did in Lagos and nobody can come out to deny he lied. Why are we going to manage obi when their is right tool (Tinubu) for the job?
Don't just tell us what obi will do when he becomes president, tell us what he has done before that we can point to in Anambra because talking is cheap, anybody can talk "I will..., I will...", but as it stands now, we can't even trust obi talks on " I will... " because of its lie arithmetic machine. Trump and America president where we borrowed democracy are older than Tinubu, Atiku, your second choice is older than Tinubu why bothering yourself about age?
Tinubu might not be vocal to gush out lies like obi, but he has experience and loaded with innovative minds to see future in governance which will benefit Nigeria at moment. He is not a political prostitute like Obi that is jumping from party to party searching for shortcut to Aso rock. Tinubum is honest, trusted and competent while obi is full of lies and can't be trusted because he is even a product of Ojukwu the coward, obi will run away from tough political challenges like Ojukwu just like he ran away from PDP primary because of fear of defeat.
Obi should be in primary two of Tinubu's school of politics now reading ABC of Nigeria politics, he is not yet ripe for the top job now MEGA TRASH |
