ATHENS, April 7 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskiy's address to the Greek parliament on Thursday caused an outrage from opposition parties after a man who identified himself as an ethnic Greek member of Ukraine's ultranationalist Azov battalion appeared on a video.

Zelenskiy spoke about the destruction of the Russian-besieged Ukrainian port of Mariupol - home to thousands of ethnic Greeks - and appealed to Athens for help.

"I address you, as a Greek by origin. I am Mikhail, my grandfather fought against the Nazis... I participate in the defence of Ukraine through the Azov Battalion," he said.

Zelenskiy, who was invited to address the Greek parliament by conservative Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, received a standing ovation from lawmakers present in the room.

But the video caused a backlash on social media and an angry reaction from leftist parties.

Shortly after the speech, the head of the leftist Syriza party Alexis Tsipras said the incident was a provocation. "Solidarity with the Ukrainian people is a given. But the Nazis can not have a say in parliament," he tweeted.

His tweet had won more than 3,900 likes by Thursday evening.

A Greek government spokesman responded that the message of a member of the Azov Battalion was "mistaken and inappropriate".

Western countries say Moscow's invasion, the biggest assault on a European country since World War Two, was entirely unprovoked. Russia says it is carrying out a "special operation" to disarm and "denazify" its neighbors.

Ukraine's embassy in Athens said the Azov regiment, set up as a far right group in 2014, has been reformed and integrated into the National Guard of Ukraine.

"For many years Russia tried to 'plant' into Greek minds the myth that "Azov" Regiment is a paramilitary independent unit operating in Mariupol," it said.

"The video ... has nothing to do to those Nazi deeds, Russians commit on our land and against our people."

Your reply doesn't relate with my post. Russia and China seek to rule the world. It is desire of any world power. It is called world political hegemony. Eqypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greek and Rome used to be world political hegemonies. Now, this is era of anglo- America world politically hegemony.

Even at national and sub-national levels, there are political hegemonies. In Nigeria, there are fulani/ kanuri political hegemonies. In my state, there is ibadan hegemony.

Even in multipolar world order, there would be a world political hegemony.
Anglo-American entity has an advantage of using liberalism to attract people from all nations. These prople are even serving in Armies. If USA declares war on China, i can bet it, Chinese Americans would be among us troops deployed.

Liberalism is dream of every man. The west are offering it to people living under state dictatorship across the world. They are trooping to west in large numbers. There are sizeable numbers of Russian and Indian Americans as well.

China and Russia have potentials but they need to liberate their political economy.

It is not a straightforward thing. Many Indians, Russians and Chinese are becoming citizens of USA and EU nations. How many Americans and Europeans are becoming citizens of India, Russia and China? Very rare. There are Indian, Chinese and Russian -American in USA and UK armies.

If Russia and China want to rule the world, they must liberate their economy from grip of state.

For 6000 years of written history, world order has been mostly unipolar except during cold war of 1950 till 1990 when world was polarized into eastern and western block.
I think military might will play less role in redefinition of world order. Financial strength will determine direction of new world order.

I decided to read the article you shared the link. Thankfully, Yuval is in no way advocating the outrageous position you ascribe to him. Rather he is analyzing the present in order to predict the future. From the article, he sees such future as a threat and not as a paradise. The essence of prediction is control. Now he has told you the future outcome of science and the threat it poses, your duty, our duty is to control it and ensure the deadly consequences are avoided. You do not crucify the man who told you that your house might catch fire because one of your sons have sprinkled fuel around the house. The essence of his telling you is to enable you quench the fire before it comes.

Yes, from that article I also discovered I earlier misrepresented Ecce Homo as the title of his first book instead of Homo Sapiens. Fredrick Nietszche is the author of Ecce Homo and not Yuval.

I am yet to read his book on the 21st Century but I doubt whether he can arrive at positions in support of eugenics. Even if he did, do not insult him. Plato did that thousands of years ago and the sky did not fall. Rather counter philosophies arose to challenge his position. What next? 5G network, Pope John Paul, Illuminati, one world order? Dude, you can argue about Covid-19 and it's origin in another conversation but talking about Covid-19 while refusing to showcase how Russia has outdone the US in showing care for other countries is a deliberate attempt to steer of the subject.
