If this is true,then rivers state people needs to act fast now because, a state as enlightened as rivers should not have a governor who is barred from entering the US,and may Europe may also follow suit.

He is just not barred from entering the US, but also a suspected war criminal. Guilty of hate statements which has claimed several lives in Rivers state.
My guess is that if he Wike mistakenly enters the US or any of its affiliated territories, he will be arrested immediately and handed over to ICC straight for human rights violation trials.

118,803, AND NOT 144,715 ELIGIBLE FOR IMO RERUN

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that only 118,803 voters will participate during Saturday’s governorship rerun in Imo State . The commission had earlier declared 144, 715 voters as against the new figure of 118,803.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Gabriel Ada disclosed this to newsmen and party agents in Owerri, the state capital yesterday during a briefing over preparation for the election.

Ada added that 200 polling units spread across the 23 Local Government Areas in the state where election have been declared inconclusive would be involved.

Governor Rochas Okorocha , candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the April 11 governorship election in the state, polled 385,071 winning in 20 Local Government Areas out of the 27 in the state, while his closest rival, Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 306, 142 , winning only 7 LGAs. A difference of almost 80,000 voters.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the twist in figure might not be unconnected to the outright call for the redeployment of the REC from the state before the election.

Probably the problem started after She got happily married. The Pastor couldn't stand that considering that his own marriage with Anita has crashed. Another June 12 Gathering Steam —Falana

Lagos lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Femi Falana, on Wednesday warned that disturbing developments in recent times are clear signals that democracy is about to be truncated in Nigeria as it was on 12 June,1993, when the presidential election won by MKO Abiola was annuled by military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida.

Abiola, who ran on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, defeated Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention, but Babangida annulled the election, leading to a crisis that ended with Sani Abacha toppling the Interim Government headed by Ernest Shonekan on 17 November, 1993.

Falana was speaking at an event sponsored by the United States Consulate in Lagos to mark the African-American History Month, an annual observance in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

“This morning, two former military heads of state spoke against military coup d’etat. I am saying this because the CDHR (Committee for the Defence of Human Rights) played a leading role in ensuring that we have this rickety democracy. Some of us went to jail several times against these criminals who are now trying to roll back the hand of the clock,” Falana said.

“Two of them, the Senate President said in September last year and it was well reported that ‘election is not on the table, not on the agenda now. We are fighting war.’ This fellow, Dasuki, who is canvassing for postponement, and has had his way, was Aide De Camp to Babangida. He and Mark were among the two Colonels that said over their dead bodies would Babangida hand over to Abiola. Those who plotted the June 12 annulment are back,” Falana said.

Falana added: “Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent revolutions inevitable. We are warning them, enough is enough. Our people are languishing in poverty and you say we cannot even change our oppressors.”

Falana asked rhetorically: “How can you say we cannot even excercise that right? That is the greatest violation of our rights.”

He said the election must hold and whoever wins must be allowed to govern the country.

Falana also blasted religious leaders who were said to have endorsed President Jonathan, saying “this election is not about religion. It is not about ethnicity. It is not about not having shoes. This election should also be about others who have not acquired shoes.

“We must not allow the enemies of democracy to reduce the ongoing campaign to that of ethnicity and religion.”

He added: “We need to ensure that the winner of the election will ensure that every Nigerian child has many shoes.”

The United States Consul-General in Lagos, Jeffrey Hawkins, called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and excercise their right through the power of the ballot just like it happened in America during Dr Martin Luther King’s days.

He discouraged violence and said the United States will continue to support Nigeria.

Democracy, Deferred: Postponed election, an embarrassment of bad choices, by Chimamanda Adichie.

Last week, Victor, a carpenter, came to my Lagos home to fix a broken chair. I asked him whom he preferred as Nigeria’s next president: the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan, or his challenger, Muhammadu Buhari.

“I don’t have a voter’s card, but if I did, I would vote for somebody I don’t like,” he said. “I don’t like Buhari. But Jonathan is not performing.”

Victor sounded like many people I know: utterly unenthusiastic about the two major candidates in our upcoming election.

Were Nigerians to vote on likeability alone, Jonathan would win. He is mild-mannered and genially unsophisticated, with a conventional sense of humor. Buhari has a severe, ascetic air about him, a rigid uprightness; it is easy to imagine him in 1984, leading a military government whose soldiers routinely beat up civil servants. Neither candidate is articulate. Jonathan is given to rambling; his unscripted speeches leave listeners vaguely confused. Buhari is thick-tongued, his words difficult to decipher. In public appearances, he seems uncomfortable not only with the melodrama of campaigning but also with the very idea of it. To be a democratic candidate is to implore and persuade, and his demeanor suggests a man who is not at ease with amiable consensus. Still, he is no stranger to campaigns. This is his third run as a presidential candidate; the last time, in 2011, he lost to Jonathan.

This time, Buhari’s prospects are better. Jonathan is widely perceived as ineffectual, and the clearest example, which has eclipsed his entire presidency, is his response to Boko Haram. Such a barbaric Islamist insurgency would challenge any government. But while Boko Haram bombed and butchered, Jonathan seemed frozen in a confused, tone-deaf inaction. Conflicting stories emerged of an ill-equipped army, of a corrupt military leadership, of northern elites sponsoring Boko Haram, and even of the government itself sponsoring Boko Haram.

Jonathan floated to power, unprepared, on a serendipitous cloud. He was a deputy governor of Bayelsa state who became governor when his corrupt boss was forced to quit. Chosen as vice president because powerbrokers considered him the most harmless option from southern Nigeria, he became president when his northern boss died in office. Nigerians gave him their goodwill—he seemed refreshingly unassuming—but there were powerful forces who wanted him out, largely because he was a southerner, and it was supposed to be the north’s ‘turn’ to occupy the presidential office.

And so the provincial outsider suddenly thrust onto the throne, blinking in the chaotic glare of competing interests, surrounded by a small band of sycophants, startled by the hostility of his traducers, became paranoid. He was slow to act, distrustful and diffident. His mildness came across as cluelessness. His response to criticism calcified to a single theme: His enemies were out to get him. When the Chibok girls were kidnapped, he and his team seemed at first to believe that it was a fraud organized by his enemies to embarrass him. His politics of defensiveness made it difficult to sell his genuine successes, such as his focus on the long-neglected agricultural sector and infrastructure projects. His spokespeople alleged endless conspiracy theories, compared him to Jesus Christ, and generally kept him entombed in his own sense of victimhood.

The delusions of Buhari’s spokespeople are better packaged, and obviously free of incumbency’s crippling weight. They blame Jonathan for everything that is wrong with Nigeria, even the most multifarious, ancient knots. They dismiss references to Buhari’s past military leadership, and couch their willful refusal in the language of ‘change,’ as though Buhari, by representing change from Jonathan, has also taken on an ahistorical saintliness.

I remember the Buhari years as a blur of bleakness. I remember my mother bringing home sad rations of tinned milk, otherwise known as “essential commodities”—the consequences of Buhari’s economic policy. I remember air thick with fear, civil servants made to do frog jumps for being late to work, journalists imprisoned, Nigerians flogged for not standing in line, a political vision that cast citizens as recalcitrant beasts to be whipped into shape.

Buhari’s greatest source of appeal is that he is widely perceived as non-corrupt. Nigerians have been told how little money he has, how spare his lifestyle is. But to sell the idea of an incorruptible candidate who will fight corruption is to rely on the disingenuous trope that Buhari is not his party. Like Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party, Buhari’s All Progressives Congress is stained with corruption, and its patrons have a checkered history of exploitative participation in governance. Buhari’s team is counting on the strength of his perceived personal integrity: his image as a good guy forced by realpolitik to hold hands with the bad guys, who will be shaken off after his victory.

In my ancestral home state of Anambra, where Jonathan is generally liked, the stronger force at play is a distrust of Buhari, partly borne of memories of his military rule, and partly borne of his reputation, among some Christians, as a Muslim fundamentalist. When I asked a relative whom she would vote for, she said, “Jonathan of course. Am I crazy to vote for Buhari so that Nigeria will become a sharia country?”

Nigeria has predictable voting patterns, as all democratic countries do. Buhari can expect support from large swaths of the core north, and Jonathan from southern states. Region and religion are potent forces here. Vice presidents are carefully picked with these factors in mind: Buhari’s is a southwestern Christian and Jonathan’s is a northern Muslim. But it is not so simple. There are non-northerners who would ordinarily balk at voting for a ‘northerner’ but who support Buhari because he can presumably fight corruption. There are northern supporters of Jonathan who are not part of the region’s Christian minorities.

Delaying the elections is a staggeringly self-serving act of contempt for Nigerians.
Last week, I was indifferent about the elections, tired of television commercials and contrived controversies. There were rumors that the election, which was scheduled for February 14, would be postponed, but there always are; our political space is a lair of conspiracies. I was uninterested in the apocalyptic predictions. Nigeria was not imploding. We had crossed this crossroads before, we were merely electing a president in an election bereft of inspiration. And the existence of a real opposition party that might very well win was a sign of progress in our young democracy

Then, on Saturday, the elections were delayed for six weeks. Nigeria’s security agencies, we were told, would not be available to secure the elections because they would be fighting Boko Haram and needed at least another month and a half to do so. (Nigeria has been fighting Boko Haram for five years, and military leaders recently claimed to be ready for the elections.)

Even if the reason were not so absurd, Nigerians are politically astute enough to know that the postponement has nothing to do with security. It is a flailing act of desperation from an incumbent terrified of losing. There are fears of further postponements, of ploys to illegally extend Jonathan’s term. In a country with the specter of a military coup always hanging over it, the consequences could be dangerous. My indifference has turned to anger. What a staggeringly self-serving act of contempt for Nigerians. It has cast, at least for the next six weeks, the darkest possible shroud over our democracy: uncertainty. Source: The Atlantic.

‘Piss’ Accord: Presidency Reacts as Unruly APC youths stone Jonathan in Katsina, Destroy Campaign Billboards

The convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan was attacked Tuesday in Katsina as the President continued his Presidential campaigns in the state which is the home town of General Muhamadu Buhari.

His convoy was apprehended by broom-wielding youths, suspected to have been sponsored by the APC, chanting “Sai Buhari,” As the President and members of his entourage including Vice President Namadi Sambo; National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu; and Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State approached the Yar’Adua Quarters, the family home of late President Umoru Yar’Adua to pay a courtesy visit to the mother of Jonathan’s former boss, Hajiya Dada.

The crowd were dispersed by Security agents but the youths regrouped to attack the President’s convoy on his departure from the compound throwing stones and manners of objects were hurled at the President’s entourage. The group followed the President and maintained the aggression till the convoy arrived at the Airport.

In a quick reaction, Presidential Spokesman Reuben Abati took to twitter to express disgust at the issue while maintaining the President’s resolve to embrace fair-play in the forthcoming 2015 elections.

“We thank God for today. We are mobilizing eligible voters & building schools, giving hope and empowering the young, moving Nigeria forward”

“They” are busy mobilizing under-aged persons, turning them into street sweepers, hate mongers & stone-throwers. What do they really want? Abati added.

The youths also destroyed billboards and assets belonging to the PDP Goodluck Campaign organization in their sight.

The girl is a fuuuul. She misses her former life as an actress and all the cash, freedom and excitement that comes with it. Baga Massacre: Jonathan Is Irresponsible – Malema

South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema has described president Goodluck Jonathan as an ‘irresponsible’ leader for neglecting the 2000 people killed in Baga but commiserated with France over the killing of 17 people in Paris.

Malema wants South Africa to be involved in military action in Nigeria to wipe out Boko Haram, following the mass killings and abductions.

He condemned Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan for commenting on the terror attacks in France but failed to act on what was happening in his own country.

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has followed the footsteps of President Jonathan in adopting an ibo name and now bears Gen. Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari. He unveiled his new name during his presentation in owerri yesterday when he went for a Campaign along with his host Governor Rochas Okorocha. It is hoped that by answering "Okechukwu Buhari", the ibos will flock to the General just as they gave 99% vote to president Jonathan who bears two ibo names...Ebele Azikiwe.

POINT OF CORRECTION- Obasanjo is a Baptist. Not RCCG. He only attends major RCCG programs like many from other churches do to...probably for political reasons. But his root and present day denomination is the Baptist Church.
