Alcatraz001:All these decline in christian influence in SW has been made possible because yoruba christian leaders have compromised. Lets check the details, in the middle belt and SE the majority of the christians are orthodox eg catholic, or Assemblies or methodist, ECWA etc. In the SW its full of pentecostal pastors who are more concerned with growing their local Assembly and generating wealth for their denomination rather than encouraging the flocks to partake in the societal issues. The Pastors would rather have their flocks withdraw into the local assembly and invest in it rather than becoming general problem for the society as a whole. How come a place like SW and Lagos that has Adeboye, Oyedepo, Wole Oke, Paul Adefarasin,TB Joshua, Bakare, etc who as house holdd names in other African nations and known world wide be perpetually dominated and sidelined by muslim minority brothers? It couldnt have happened if the majority of the Xtians in the SW were catholics and orthodox rather than pentecostal because the catholic Bishops will speak out even inside their church. They have nothing to lose. But these pentecostal pastors that have dominated the SW wouldnt mind if Tinubu and Fashola perpetually schemes out xtians so long as their local denomination keeps growing material wise. No wonder the pentecostal pastors and churches based in the SW keep growing and getting more powerful yet their influence in the running of state keeps going down. The SW pentecostal pastors who do not encourage members to get involved in larger issues of the society have sold out. Iam a pentecostal myself and am happy being a pentecostal but at the same time iam sad that xtianity influence in the SW has been rubbished and non of the great pastors are even asking questions talk less of being bothered. |
CAN must be reclaimed By Uzodinma Nwaogbe It is apparently clear to all men of good conscience that the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), an umbrella body of the Christians in Nigeria has lost focus. Christians all over the world according to Jesus Christ, the master of the faith, must be morally upright anywhere, anytime, no matter the condition. Jesus Christ fought against injustice even if it is meted out to his enemies, fed the poor, lived amongst them, organized the people to always pray and worship God. At the end, the Christ I read about in the Bible and came to accept and, proudly identify with today sacrificed himself for our sake. At the establishment of CAN in the 1980’s and led then by Olubunmi Cardinal Okogie, a now retired Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Primate Sunday Mbang of the Methodist faith and several othersstood up to protect Christendom in Nigeria. They fought against injustice, marginalization, mis-rule, identified with the suffering masses of Nigeria. They usually as at then called the government to order once they appear to be derailing. The CAN of today under the leadership of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has not only derailed but has lost every sense of morality and leadership to continue to pioneer the affairs of this religious body. We need a CAN that will constantly act as the conscience of the nation. Religious organization that will courageously talk against the evils in our society that appears to be barriers to our open heavens in our political and economic development. A CAN and Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) that will be against evil structures of development purposely laid and sustained by selfish leaders; Pastors and Imams that will mobilize the people against bad policies, money laundering, non-accountability and lack of transparency in governance. We need a prophetic CAN to talk to the government to walk their talk. The present CAN has become bunch of sycophants, and hypocrites. We are in dire need of visionary Christian leaders, like the Okogies, Mbangs, Obinnas, Bakares, Kukahs, Ikes, who will liberate the people from mental slavery, bondage, economic prison and, open doors for responsible governance, justice, peace, security, good life which God promises his people. Nigeria may need spiritual cleansing but more of economic, political and moral cleansing. We require, justice, equal right and fairness to all. The CAN of our time must resist the evils, temptations to apathy, despondency. They must stand up and be counted on the side of reason, truth and fairness, for they remain the salt of the earth, light of the world. CAN leadership must be fearless Christians who will at all times demonstrate that indeed there is hope for redemption for this country. We remember vividly that the reason adduced by Pastor Oritsejafor’s ‘defence lawyers’ on the jet purchase then was that he needed to improve his evangelization, reach out to his followers around the globe. If the jet is truly meant for evangelization, why is it now leased out? Who will profit from the deal, CAN or Pastor Oritsejafor? The real reason why churches are being tasked on the payment of taxes. Quite frankly this CAN under Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has lost its head in every respect. The two religious bodies, CAN, SCIA and in fact traditional institutions must collaborate as in the past to discern the current situation of things in our land and give it a theological and cultural meaning. Bodies that will proclaim that our real enemies are corruption, greed, indiscipline, lack of transparency, non-accountability among many government officials. A Christian leader is he/she who feels and cares deeply about the happiness and well being of his country men and women. The true religious leader will always demand for the best standard from and for his people. He will speak against evil at all times, all places without minding their position in the society. The CAN and SCIA are confronted with the task of defending or explaining the hope that is in us (1 Peter 3:15) in the midst of people held under siege by an abusive, exploitative, fraudulent, callous, insensitive and greedy elite. We see, feel, conspiracy among four groups holding down the country thereby impoverishing the already marginalized peoples of Nigeria; the religious leaders, economic giants, power brokers and traditional rulers. The religious bodies must desist from capitalizing on government already inflicted injuries, poverty on the people and define hope for our struggling citizens. The Christendom in Nigeria is in a state of tatters, with all manner of hypocrisy, bad and very ugly stories emanating from the religious circle. Ayo Oritsejafor’s missionary jet converted to economic use, Chris and Anita Oyakhilome’s marriage scandal and personal acquisition of churches in Nigeria and Britain; TB Joshua in illegal construction of additional building that collapsed and killed many of his congregation, bribed journalists to cover up some hidden facts and the manipulated CCTV film that recorded the ‘hovering plane.’ So many scandalous stories of priests in various other churches philandering with both married and unmarried women, involved in the acquisition of devilish healing powers, acquiring more of pleasurable jeeps and other earthly materials not necessary for preachers of the gospel. Tthe leaders of the church and these include the clergy, and laity should present the Christian teachings, messages in such a way to bring hope, refresh despairing minds, bring succour to the agonizing people of Nigeria who like the children of Israel in Egypt are passing through prolonged nightmare under a succession of merciless taskmasters. Our Nigerian Christian and Islamic leaders must accept the responsibility to reshape the direction of the country. It is because they live very far from the people that they do not feel for the poor. How many of the privileged pastors live in Ajegunle, Orile-Iganmu, Nyanya, Mararaba. No! They stay in high brow areas with security, palatial homes with modern gadgets for comfort, drive round town in multi million jeep cars while the members of their flock are sick, distressed, harassed, go hungry and lack nutrition. The pastors must re-examine their lifestyle. Their pattern of life does not match with the socio-economic circumstances of their people and present economy in the country. Nigerian worshippers will sacrifice to see their ministers live above poverty level but it would however be unfair, unjust and insensitive for the ministers to close their eyes against the plight of the common people. The religious leaders cannot always push the blame to government when they hide in their cocoon to commit all manner of atrocities. They must brace up to the challenges of working for Muhammed and Christ. If they continue in these lifestyles then it is obviously clear that they are not true representatives of the masters of these two world’s most popular faiths. Mother Theresa of Calcutta, of blessed memory, worked for Christ by living amongst the poor, denying herself of all pleasures to attend to the sick, fed the hungry, gave succour to the less privileged. Nigerian pastors must step down from this utopian ladder if they must be taken seriously. Nigeria needs genuine prophets of God, those who will ride bicycle, motor-bike, tricycle to get to their places of worship not all these questionable multi millionaires who are holding on to the bible to protect their ill-gotten wealth. • Nwaogbe, wrote in from Lagos. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/10/can-must-reclaimed/ |

Divorce Scandal: Oyakhilome Removes Wife’s Name, Photo From All Church Publications including Rhapsody of Realities Founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has removed his estranged wife’s pictures and name, Anita, from the church’s monthly devotional publication, Rhapsody of Realities after her pictures and personal information had been removed from the church’s website, a few months ago. Founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has removed his estranged wife’s pictures and name, Anita, from the church’s monthly devotional publication, Rhapsody of Realities after her pictures and personal information had been removed from the church’s website, a few months ago. Anita Oyakhilome Anita was reportedly sidelined from her key role and the role taken over by a prominent female member of the church, Yemisi Kudehinbu, who recently succeeded Pastor Phillip as the Chief Executive Officer of the Believers Love World Incorporated, an umbrella body in charge of Rhapsody. The removal of Anita’s profile from Rhapsody took effect from the October edition of the monthly devotional book, which she co-authored with Pastor Chris. Oyakhilome is the president of Believers’ Love World Inc, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife was the vice-president. They both have two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn. According to reports, Anita’s pictures, which used to adorn the front and back pages of Rhapsody with her husband, were edited from the latest publication. The current edition has only the name of Pastor Chris, while the back page was filled with only testimonies. The latest development has worsened the divorce mess between the church’s leader and his wife, Anita, who reportedly filed for dissolution of their marriage on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery” on 9 April, 2014, according to an online newspaper, The Cable. Two days after it was reported that Anita had filed for divorce in London, Christ Embassy deleted her pictures and personal information from its official website, www.christembassy.org. Many describe the action as the beginning of a process to shut her out of the church, after she accused her husband of “adultery” and “unreasonable behaviours” in the divorce suit. Christ Embassy’s new website now shows only Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. http://saharareporters.com/2014/10/01/divorce-scandal-oyakhilome-removes-wife%E2%80%99s-name-photo-all-church-publications |
Bobby4090: Why should he park the jet and keep it un used for months. Means he doesnt really need it as he claims. Even at that, he can make it available to fellow pastors or his top church members/officials during those periods for use if not for his greed. Instead, he decided to make it available to the Govt. for gun running and money trafficking. Shows the guy is a fraud from day one. Adeboye has a jet and i never heard a scandal. Oyedepo has been flying on private jets since 1996. Infact he has four jets plus an aircraft hanger yet i never heard a scandal. Ayo just got a free one from Jona and within a year its already bringing shame to him. Simply shows this Ayo guy is dubious and God wanted to expose his lies that he wants to use it for evangelism. |

A CAN full of worms; a country full of warts! Before now, he minimally knew about Nigeria other than its name. He befriended no Nigerian aside from the few he stumbled across in his ministerial assignments as a preacher. But in recent times, Joe, my white American friend, has learnt so much about my country and its people that he now believes he is more equipped than a Nigerian Professor of History or any Nigerian alive, about all that is in Nigeria’s past, present, and what will be in the future. That was his confession. Joe’s acuity about our country’s stories was acquired through Facebook where he is connected to me as friend, and in turn to many others he has never met and may never meet. He follows our arguments about issues and according to him, he laughs his head off reading many of our opinions. Joe summed up Nigeria and Nigerians in this short American Southern sentential submission: “Y’all gat some mess up in there”. He is right. Nigeria has a messy past, a messier present, and a gawky, gaucherie future except our God shows His mercy. What have got many giving up hope are events we see all around us in everyday Nigeria. This country has become a cesspool of ludicrousness and ridiculousness, a cesspit of laughability and farcicality, and a cistern through which all things miasmic and mephitic flow. Government after government, it appears as if we are in a quotidian navigation through the noxious vicinage and nauseating neighbourhood of the nonsensical and the absurd. And writing or blowing out your larynx in a scream for a change looks like shadow-boxing and sciamachical strain, stress, and stab. Friday, September 5, 2014, a Bombardier Challenger 600, with a Nigerian flight crew headed for Johannesburg, South Africa. The jet became a flying cash-vault and strongroom brimmed up with undeclared raw cash that totalled $9.3m. Mission was to purchase arms and ammunition for some agency of the Nigerian government as it continues chasing Boko Haram from pillar to post in its newly sculpted caliphate. So, reinforcement was needed from xenophobic South Africans because all routes to the Western world to purchase ammunition for Nigeria are full of booby-traps and suspicions of money-laundering by Nigerian government apparatchiks. On board was an Abuja-based Israeli, who was the only man with the combinations to open the lock on the suit cases containing the cash. Arriving Johannesburg, the cover was blown. When covers are blown in deals that have to do with money in Nigeria, it means someone in the deal is probably being edged and schemed out from the booty; and what follows is always crying and gnashing of ugly teeth of obstreperousness. Between the couriers of the cash and the Nigerian diplomats in South Africa, something happened, but we don’t know what it was. Some day, we will find out the truth. It was the known truth that got someone talking to the media about the dingy deal. The shock in the whole drama was the mode of transfer of the whopping sum and the initial responses of our government. It was both risible and daffy when we read that the government believes money- transfer through a jet would deliver faster than going through the Central Bank. The purchase of the ammunition was so urgent in the thought of those responsible for this irresponsibility that the government chose not to make the transfer via the Central Bank but through a pastor’s private pet jet. The jet must have been so anointed with some kind of miracle oil that, in a holy-rolling of sort, it can cover a 3,000 miles journey between Lagos and Johannesburg and deliver money faster than a Bank Wire Transfer would in minutes. If this is not a jejune jabbering from a polemic whippersnapper; if this is not a farrago of bunkum and absurd verbiage, I wonder what then it is. These are some of the stories the world reads about the giant of Africa that makes it look like a divagate gallimaufry of ridicule and loutishness. Warts of weird behaviours are found in all crevices of our government, and stench is locked up in all the nooks and crannies. God must come to Nigeria’s rescue. The man or woman who knew the truth then dropped the name of a man of God. It was Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the head of all Christians in Nigeria under the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the sole owner of the flying cash-vault and strongroom jet. I and many all over the world have drawn and learnt from the man of God’s teachings and expository prowess of the infallible word of the living God. Oh, how I love Pastor Ayo! I wish the night-crawling money transfer had not taken place on his jet, or any other jet belonging to any man of God for that matter. I wish the money had not been transferred on Pastor Ayo’s jet because all of us Christians now have to defend what I believe is totally indefensible. I wish Pastor Ayo will just leave these politicians alone and preside over CAN in a noble and decent manner, not running back and forth genuflecting before politicians in pursuit of wealth that has wings. As a servant of God, I always cringe in shame when scandals regarding anointed men brew up. I have to attempt sharpening my debate skills to confront some of my friends who think Pentecostalism and Pentecostal pastors are just a bunch of unemployed lowlifes and unemployable barracudas who just love to extort and manipulate both the highs and the lows in the society with perfected Pentecostal abracadabra. Pastor Ayo is a great man of God, but he is now perceived in recent times as a man of glittering gold and blinking bling. The leasing and sub-leasing of the jet are obviously an attempt to make extra cash to maintain the jet. I wish Pastor had found another way of maintaining the toy. If he cannot maintain the jet, he should not retain it. You cannot retain what you cannot maintain. I wish gun-running, dirty-deals, money-trafficking under the cover of the night had not been part of how Pastor Ayo’s ministry is now defined. But, it has happened, and it’s not a happenstance. Any kind of romance between pastors and Nigerian politicians may surely land big and heavy bags of free money, but it will always land you in a heavy pile of trouble especially as CAN president. When a CAN president is in conjugal conjoining, lovey-dovey dance-steps with Nigerian politicians, it will spring a carbuncle that may never heal. The Christian Association of Nigeria that Pastor Ayo presides over has become a CAN of worms that many Christians have kept an arm’s length from since he became president. The Catholic Church has pulled out, and many others are also tinkering with the same idea. We know Pastor Ayo is an unapologetic supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, and that is well. But he cannot drag millions of his members who don’t believe what he believes regarding politics. He has every right to do that with the church he founded, not CAN that is a rallying umbrella for all Christians in Nigeria who have differing political swings. There is no doubt that this present leadership of CAN is full of worms, and it will be a great move if Pastor Ayo stepped aside. Doing otherwise with all the foofaraw we have now is kicking the CAN down the road. www.folasophical.com www.folasophical.comhttp://www.punchng.com/opinion/a-can-full-of-worms-a-country-full-of-warts/ |
femmy2010: The Govt should stop fooling Nigerians jare. You are right my brother. The Govt is only running from pillar to post trying to exonorate themselves and sway peoples mind in the money laundering scandal. But thats medicine after death. Oritsejafor told us its a jet bought for evangelism. Now he had the guts to say its now used for commercial purposes. was it registered for such? Then why was Gov Amaechis jet seized? That man Oritsejafor has disgraced CAN. he is as shameless as the other CAN execs who came out to support him by publicly insulting other Nigerians. Oyedepo has had four jets for many years now, have we ever of him lending it to Jonathan for criminal purposes? show how shameless men like Oritsejafor are. He should RESIGN AS CAN PRESIDENT OR BE IMPEACHED IMMEIATELY |
Oritsejafor Has Turned CAN Into A "Sorry Appendage" Of The Federal Government – Senator George Akume Former Benue State Governor, Senator Goerge Akume, has acused the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of working to destroy the “little credibility that is left of this once glorious organisation CAN.” Akume, who in a statement said he was expressing his “utmost dismay and anger,” over how Oritsejafor is affecting the fortunes of the association, noted that concerning the alleged arms deal, a “clearly criminal, immoral and unethical act is being white washed with religious grandstanding.” He pleaded with the people from the Northern part of Nigeria not to see CAN in the light of recent events. “My appeal to our brothers in the North is that, what they see in CAN today has nothing to do with Christianity but everything to do with crass materialism and self-seeking opportunism,” he said. The lawmaker who said he “must speak out against the brazen attempts to hijack our religion and use it for purposes that are clearly against the tenets of the teachings of Jesus Christ,” noted that even where Oritsejafor has “desperately tried to absolve himself of the crime committed by those who were transferring money illegally…his arguments are unsustainable because he has vicarious liability at several levels.” He recalled that “On September 5, a jet owned by Oritsejafor was caught in South Africa stashed with $9.3 million undeclared cash purportedly meant for the purchase of arms through black market. The circumstances surrounding the incident suggest that those ferrying the money did it in open breach of Nigerian and international laws. South Africa has already established a prima facie case of criminality involved in the questionable misadventure. “Oritsejafor has openly confessed that he owns the jet involved in this crime. He, however, claimed that the jet was leased out to Eagle Air, which again leased it out to Green Coast Produce Limited. His arguments are unsustainable because he has vicarious liability at several levels. One, the vessel used for criminal activity belongs to him. “He commercially leased the vessel to Eagle Air, which is a company he holds an interest in and which in turn further leased same to the company that converted it to commercial use with his full knowledge and approval. The chain of ethical liability is unbroken. How will the pastor explain his involvement with people engaged in the murky waters of international arms trafficking?” He also flawed Oritsejafor’s claim that his congregation donated the jet to him on the 40th anniversary of his ministry sometime in 2012 for the purpose of attending to his flock and doing God’s work, arguing that “the plane, a Bombardier Challenger 600, was registered as a privately owned jet supposedly for pastoral use. However, the three passengers arrested in South Africa with the aircraft were definitely not on pastoral visit to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.” He scored the current leadership of CAN low in the aspects of the core objectives of the body which is to act as ‘watchperson of the spiritual and moral welfare of the nation and promote understanding, peace and unity among the various people of Nigeria. “From the pioneer president of CAN, Dominic Cardinal Ekandem (of blessed memory), through; his several revered successors like Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Dr. Sunday Mbang, Most Rev. Peter Akinola and the immediate past President of CAN and Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; CAN witnessed its glorious years. “The organisation promoted religious harmony through inter-faith dialogue. Cardinal Onaiyekan and the Sultan of Sokoto were even considered for the Nobel Peace Prize award. CAN in those years regularly advised government on diverse issues affecting ordinary citizens and remained a strident voice for the voiceless. Those the those days. Today, the story is different. “Since the present CAN leadership came on board, CAN has become a sorry appendage of the Villa. It has become politically partisan, obscenely materialistic and the voice of the oppressor rather than the oppressed. The situation degenerated to a state that the single largest block of CAN, which is, the Catholic Church suspended itself from the national leadership of CAN until ‘sanity’ returns to the leadership.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/akume-flays-oritsejafor-over-alleged-illegal-arms-deal/189701/ |
Seized $9.3million: Outrage as Nigerian govt. flouts own anti-money laundering: Apart from breaching South African laws, the Nigerian government violated a number of key anti-money laundering laws in its botched attempt to buy arms and military equipment from South Africa with $9.3 million cash stacked in suitcases. Two Nigerians and an Israeli were arrested at the Lanseria Airport in South Africa on September 5, 2014 as they tried to enter the country with the cash conveyed in a private jet owned by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor. Nigerian officials said the suspects were carrying out a “legitimate” transaction to procure arms for the country’s military, and that South Africa had been given receipts and documents to prove the authenticity of the deal. South African investigators have faulted the claims, and last week, obtained a court order freezing the money. The Nigerian government’s explanation was “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”, they said. An analysis of the deal shows how the Nigerian authorities, in choosing to procure arms with a huge sum in cash, blatantly flouted two important laws enacted to combat money laundering. Section 2 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 clearly pegged the cash transfer allowed into a foreign country at $10,000 or its equivalent. The law stipulates that any cash transfer exceeding that limit must be reported to the central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the Security and Exchange Commission, or the Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC within 7 days from the date of the transaction. The law also requires transportation of cash exceeding the limit be declared to the Nigerian Customs Service. Section 2 (5) of the act states that anyone caught flouting the law by failing to declare such transfer or making a false declaration could risk being jailed for up to two years as well paying a fine of up to 25 percent of the undeclared or falsely declared fund upon conviction. Similarly, Section 12 (b) of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring Miscellaneous Provision) Act stipulates that “foreign currency in excess of US $5,000 or its equivalent, whether being imported into or exported out of Nigeria, shall be declared on the prescribed form for reasons of statistics only.” Further, Section 25 of the same law requires any international cash transfer exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent to be reported to the Central Bank. Lawyers and civil society activists have come hard on the government for claiming ownership of the money which they say was taken out of the country in a manner that suggests reasons other than the purchase of arms. They say shipping the money out of the country is in wanton violation of its own laws and that the government is making a mockery of its anti-money laundering policy. “This is clearly a very bad example of how to make policy and break them at the end,” said Monday Ubani, the Chairman of Ikeja branch of Nigeria Bar Association. Mr. Ubani says the fact that related government agencies are avoiding claiming responsibility for the money is sign that the money could not have been meant for something legitimate contrary to the government’s claim. “Even if you want to buy arms and ammunition there are still procedures and processes. This was shrouded in secrecy. As I speak to you, no agency has claimed responsibility of knowing how this amount of money was sent abroad for purchase of arm and ammunition,” he said. Mr. Ubani said the ease at which the money was taken out of the country suggests that the process had been tried before and could well be the method stolen money is taken out of the country. “This is an example of how the money that should be used to better the lives of Nigerians is being stolen and shipped away. What other example can you ask for? This is a clear indication of how our money is being stolen by those in authorities.” In a similar vein, a rights activist, Shehu Sani, said the matter should not be treated with kid gloves. He added that the explanation proffered by the government lacks credibility and called on the National Assembly to immediately commence an investigation as to how the money was taken out of country and what it was really meant for. “This is very serious issue that needs to be investigated. The explanation given by the government doesn’t hold water. It doesn’t make any sense. There is nowhere in the world where such huge sum of money is moved in an airplane for the purpose of a legitimate business,” he said. “There are three issues: The first being that whose money is it and who made the payment? Is it the Ministry of Defence, the Police or it is the Presidency? Secondly is that it was the money appropriated by the National assembly? And thirdly, the manner the money is being shipped out is a clear violation of the money laundering act. I think these are issues that need to be investigated by the National assembly,” he added. Also Lagos-based lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, said the government’s account is a slap in the face of the country’s anti-money laundering laws. He said the government’s explanation is faulty. According to him if the government was carrying out a legitimate business it need not do it in a clandestine manner. He added that that the botched South African deal has all the markings of money laundering. “This act has happen in clear violation of all our laws governing international business transactions. “If you are going to buy arms for the fight against Boko Haram, the fight against Boko haram is not a hidden thing. It is something that the AU is supporting. It is something that ECOWAS is supporting; it is a fight that the international committee is supporting so why would you do it in a clandestine manner. Why can’t you wire the money through government channels? The fact that they are offering this jejune and absurd explanation in support of the gross violation of our laws is despicable. “This is a clear case of money laundering perpetrated by people inside the Federal government of Nigeria and so people have to be held accountable.” He said the national Assembly should prevail on the President Goodluck Jonathan to hand over those responsible for the transaction. He said if the president fails to do this, he should be held responsible and impeachment proceeding should be initiated against him. On Thursday, the Senate said it has summoned military chiefs and the National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, to explain the transfer of the huge amount in cash. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/headlines/168359-seized-9-3million-outrage-as-nigerian-govt-flouts-own-anti-money-laundering-laws.html#sthash.sB6xg1oJ.57hvzMyk.dpbs |
15 Years of Adulterous Endurance: In Defence of Anita Oyakhilome. Anita Oyakhilome, the frustrated wife of Nigeria’s most flamboyant preacher, Chris Oyakhilome has obviously passed through 15 years of adulterous endurance and what she needs is our prayers and protective respect and defense of her choices to forget all the anti-rhapsody of heartbreak she endured all these years. Fifteen (15) years of being abandoned by a preacher husband is not an easy way of life for a preacher’s wife. Fifteen (15) years of hearing that some mini skirted daughters of Jezebel have taken over your possession is not a joke. Fifteen years of a husband not staying with the wife for up to a week on a stretch, while spending time with some double breasted figure eight(ed) daughters of eve is not an easy thing to swallow. 15 years of being used as a showcase to make church members believe in Rhapsodies of Blissful Union, while dying in silence, is not a palatable experience for any woman. Fifteen years of being called Mama, Mummy, and other glorified names of Senior Pastor’s wife while some domestic harems sneer at the same Mummy behind is not a sweet experience. For goodness sake, this woman never probably had a good kiss in fifteen years and yet she is being accused of carnality for crying out loud. She was continually being led into temptation of seeking for sexual satisfaction from outside for fifteen years and she managed to escape the traps of sin. Fifteen years when their two lovely daughters would wake up and ask their mother why Dad had not cared to visit, and she would have to release a lie to stave off the frequent probing questions. Above all, fifteen years when Anita had to fake that all is well with their marriage, while she is actually dying emotionally. Every person she complained to among the pastoral cadre sided with the man, and she was left alone to bear her cross. I warned some pastor friends with Christ Embassy early 2013 that they had better settle this marriage rift between Oga and his wife before it destroys the church. The same pastors have called me to express regret that a national embarrassment has ensued. This woman has been called Jezebel by some pastors and members of the church. Some claimed she was disrespectful while others claimed she was always bitter of recent. They have tried to castigate her before members of the church who came in private to ask for the way out. She was described as unreasonable and insubordinate. Her husband, according to news reports has even followed to cast her in bad light. According to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, “Bitterness is prolonged and accumulated anger. My wife is always angry and bitter,” Going further he told his members to “Be careful of the friends you keep. My wife keeps friends who bring out the worst in her and help her see the worst in people, instead of keeping friends that will help her vision, especially as the wife of a global pastor like me.” Please, which preacher woman who has been abandoned for fifteen years will not be bitter and angry? Was Anita expected to clap and dance while some hot legs are parading around the White House? This pastor’s wife was also disclaimed by her husband who told his congregants in reaction to the divorce saga that Anita is not necessarily a Woman of God. According to Pastor Oyakhilome “Don’t act like those people. If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing”. He clarified his theory by saying that “If a man of God is married, it doesn’t automatically mean that the wife of a man of God is therefore a woman of God. That’s not the way it is in the Bible.” Pastor Chris also added that “That’s why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name? You never find that out. Who was John’s wife? Did you ever read the name? What about all the other Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible. You never find their names.” Anita Oyakhilome actually proved that she has fear of God in the manner she worded her divorce plea. She opted to use the word “inappropriate relationship with female staff members” instead of out rightly accusing her husband of adultery. According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his appropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.” Anita Oyakhilome could have said that her husband abandoned her and ran into the arms of sister A or B, or gospel singer C or D and left her roasting and murmuring in the house. Anita could have said that her husband is a hypocrite who says a thing and means another, but she veiled her grievances of years of abandonment by saying in the divorce file that “The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband’s image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience. On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis”. “The wife has tried to discuss her concerns with the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs.” Thus Anita had acted with much restraint in order to preserve the integrity of Christ Embassy and the work of evangelism, and all she got for her discretion was hate messages all many sections of church members who wanted her to sacrifice her marriage to keep them in a rhapsody of deceit. This woman, according to the testimony of many British residents who attend their church, is one person who is always willing to give gifts to the needy. She is ever ready to counsel people and does not breed class. She is a patient listener who laboriously introduced many things in the church for which the glory goes to her husband. Londoners believe that she is not that demon they want to portray her as. Those who know her closely have attested to an affectionate good naturedness and stickler for details. Whatsoever thing some misguided church members want to think, Anita had lived a lie for many years. Anita was said to have became born again at believers Loveworld campus fellowship at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, while Chris was the pastor. She had probably paid her dues as a Christian and knows what it is to deceive the congregation. She cannot deceive herself and the church anymore thus she opted for divorce. Divorce, according to scripture is unbiblical, but between deceiving a congregation that already knows the truth but pretends otherwise and staying in unfulfilled marriage, which is better. It is a matter between her and her conscience. Last year, a Nigerian personality blogger by name Ese Walter was lured by her Senior Pastor in Abuja into a cozy hotel bed space in London and after two weeks of adultery, the man cleaned up, returned to Nigeria and told his congregation to shout some Hallelujah. The sin partner was arrested by the Holy Spirit and she sought a meeting with the COZA Chief to resolve the burden of guilt. She was continually shunned and described as agent of satan even by other senior pastors in the church until she turned the internet into the confessional. Ese Walter freed her conscience and probably escaped eternal damnation but the entire Christendom took the brunt of the exposure. Pope Benedict made several attempts to stop the incidences of homosexual pedophiles among priest and leaders in the Vatican. His attempts were rebuffed by a cabal of officials who resisted probe and pious change. In exasperation, the Pontiff abandoned the Papacy and triggered the change that is being forced down on the resisting cabal. Pope Benedict freed his conscience and left with clean records before his God. Anita has chosen to free herself from a life of deceit and lies. The truth had set her free. However, I still counsel her that if the misbehaving preacher husband demonstrates a verifiable change of heart, she should consider him back and so that somebody can shout some more Hallelujah. Fifteen years of adulterous endurance in the midst of charismatic rhapsody is not easy and Anita Oyakhilome sure needs all the defense and understanding she can get. Brahms: He doesn't deserve shi!t! Same clown that said N1.9bn Ebola Fund was for his Ministry to buy Cars. He's a thief! And an Opportunist trying to take glory of Commissioner Idris. You are right on point. The man is a complete fraud. Buying a fleet of cars in the midst of an ebola emergency. Infact am sure he may be praying for more ebola outbreaks so he can have more money to loot and more cars to order. shame on him. |
SporaD8: Thanks for the adjustment. For a state with 70% of the country's industries and head quarters of all the banks, telecoms firms, down stream petroleum firms, with the biggest airport and sea port and 60% of the corporate work force he is operating at a level not less than the vice president. In a sane society, Fashola or Tinubu, whichever of them that controls Lagos ought to be more influential than even your so called federal guys. Take for example, the mayor of just New York city was termed by Forbes magazine as the fifth most influential political position in the US. That's New York city alone because of its financial clout world wide. So dude, better respect the guy. |
eyeview: Exactly my thoughts when I read his sermon. Its obvious that pastor chris does not love his wife anymore. They have lived apart for about 10years now.You are right on point. He would have put its better by saying "pray us" or "pray for my family", or even "pls pray for God to take care of the situation". Instead of these he just said "pray for Anita". He is so blindly arrogant that he has missed the point. Sometimes i have misunderstandidng with my wife, but i end up apologising or making peace (even when i feel i may be right) just because iam a man and women need one to pet them. Even God said while we were sinners he still came down to reconcile with us. But for pastor chris, he feels he will disappoint his teeming blind supporters if tells them he too needds prayers. An besides, its very cruel for him to refer to her as Anita. He didnt even say pray for my wife, he just said pray for anita. what a shame. He needs repentance and proper counselling on issues of marriage and compassion. |
It has been reported in several news media, that the famous Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's marriage with Reverend Anita, his wife, is heading for a divorce. During his sermon last Sunday, Pastor Chris had the opportunity to say something about it. What he said disappointed a lot of people including me. My article is a response to his sermon. Please find it worthwhile to publish it. God bless you! by Rev. Marcel E. Okwara Sep 10, 2014. I want to first and foremost say that I am saddened by the ongoing marital crisis happening between Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his wife Reverend Anita. Since they came into the limelight, I have always seen them as the ‘perfect’ couple, perfect in the sense of being made for each other, not in the sense of impeccability or infallibility. Since no one is perfect, I don’t expect a perfect marriage. Personally, I sympathize with this godly family. For years, they have, together, uplifted and touched the lives of many, giving so many lives a meaning, and presenting Christianity in such a beautiful way, not only in Nigeria, but also around the world. Although I do not accept every teaching and theology of Pastor Chris, (You should expect that; I am a Catholic priest), I sure admire him and the wonderful work he has done in Christianity. No one, not even the most traditional and extreme conservative Catholic in Nigeria, should regard Pastor Chris as a failed man of God. He has done some good, together with his wife, Anita. He has built a global church commonly known as Christ Embassy. Pastor Chris is an amazing preacher of the Christian message. From the pulpit, he, together with Anita, has made a strong case for Christianity, and demonstrated that only Jesus Christ can save. They have shown that Christianity is the most beautiful of all religions, the most potent of all religions to change and transform lives. They have shown sufficient reasons why everyone should follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. When the lists of famous preachers of the 21st century is drawn, Pastor Chris cannot possibly be ignored. He’s not a featherweight man of God. He’s a preacher with a message and he surely delivers that message powerfully with poise and finesse. If you call him a flashy man of God, you aren’t incorrect. By flashy, I don’t mean an extravagant show of material wealth, rather, an extravagant and elegant use of English grammar in preaching. By that I mean he is a flowery and flamboyant orator-preacher. But recently, it started appearing in print, online news media, and social networks etc. that this giant man of God’s marriage is on rocky ground. At first, I thought it was a rumor. Rumors oftentimes trail and follow most influential people in the society. If an ordinary guy falters, who cares. But when it involves those at the upper end of the society, it does make huge news. As the days have gone by, I have began to see more publications, updates and several Facebook posts stating that Pastor Chris and his wife, Reverend Anita are heading for divorce. All I did was pray for them and asked God to save their marriage. I do not want to see them go their separate ways. They are much better together. They will continue to accomplish more for God and humanity together. They will be able to serve God better together. They will be able to raise their children and show them good examples better together. They will be happier together and promote Christian marriage together. Then on Sunday, ( September 7, 2014), Pastor Chris mounted the podium and preached to his congregation: You don’t know who a man of God is. I don’t go in that direction. I wasn’t accused of the things you said, nor did I commit those stupid things that you said and I don’t need to go into that level in such discussions. Jesus Christ was accused by many – a lot of frivolous charges… But you know, in spite of the accusations against Jesus, it didn’t change who he was. It didn’t change him. There are preachers and there are men of God. I am not a preacher; I am a man of God and I go in the way I’m asked to go. It may cause some troubles with individuals but that’s not because I have done something wrong and when it comes to Reverend Anita, what I will say to you is ‘pray for her… If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing. If a man of God is married, it doesn’t automatically mean that the wife of a man of God is therefore a woman of God. That’s not the way it is in the Bible. That’s why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name? You never find that out. Who was John’s wife? Did you ever read the name? What about all the other Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible. You never find their names. You have to understand something about a man of God. A man of God is not just someone who worships God or preaches God. A man of God is handpicked by God, set on course by God. If you study the scriptures, you will not find one man of God go against God, sinning against God. The only things you might find will be a man of God, maybe in two different kinds of ways. Moses, for example; when he struck the rock twice, [he] was provoked by the anger of the people. [It was] not because he wanted to do something against the Lord. No man of God does something against the Lord. “Are you hearing me? A man of God is set on a course; there is a type of life that he is given. (culled from The Cable) I am disappointed with Pastor Chris not because I believe he is guilty. I am disappointed with him for not asking his church members to pray for him and his wife. In that sermon, he did not ask his members to pray that his marriage with his wife doesn't collapse. He did not appeal to his wife to reconsider her decision. He did not plead for prayers for himself and his family. Instead, he completely exonerated himself, urged his members to see what is happening to him in the light of what happened to Jesus, tried to convince them that what he is (i.e. a man of God), doesn’t make his wife a woman of God. He told his congregation to pray for Reverend Anita. He couldn't even refer to her as “my wife.” In that sermon, Pastor Chris did not help his case in any way. In fact, he worsened it. I expected him to appeal to his wife to reconsider her decision and to return to him. A man who genuinely wants his marriage to stay alive, a man and desperately wants his wife to come back to him would have said something like, “Sweetheart, this period is a trying period in our lives, in our marriage. But please, reconsider your decision, come back to me. I miss you. I miss us.” I expected Pastor Chris to appeal to his congregation to appeal to his wife to reconsider her decision, at least for the sake for their family, which includes their children, their love, their ministry, the people of God and for the sake of God as well. In his sermon, Pastor Chris spent a great deal of his time talking about how there were several men of God in the Bible whose wives were not mentioned. And according to him, their wives were not mentioned because those women were not women of God, and were never called. That's an insult to women. His assertion is not true. Women were largely ignored in the Bible, not because they were ungodly, not because there weren't women of God, but because the society was hugely a male dominated society. In those days, women were seen and not heard. One of the typical Jewish prayers that men prayed then was, "Thank you Lord for not making me a woman." If Pastor Chris and his wife, Reverend Anita cannot keep their marital promise of "For better, for worse... till death do us part" then they have lost credibility to preach and encourage others, especially their congregation, to stay in their marriage when it gets tough. Marriage is really tough, and I understand that. But if they cannot stay in their marriage till death do them part, that would send a laudable wrong signal to others who are already struggling in their marriages and give them a solid reason to end it after all. During his sermon, Pastor Chris did acknowledge that divorce is unbiblical, but still said that if his wife insists on it, he would sign the papers. As a man of God, he should have known by now that he is called to a different set of standards. Although, it’s unfair to expect more from us men of God, after all, we too are humans, just like everyone else. But then Jesus said, “To whom much is given, much is expected” (Luke 12:48). I may be living on a different planet but I expected Pastor Chris to say: "If my wife brings the divorce papers, I will not sign them because it is not scriptural. I will plead with her; we would seek the face of God and we would find a way out of our current problem.” If he had said that, many in his congregation, including those of us commenting on this issue would have commended him. But he sounded like a man whose mind and heart were already out of the marriage. He sounded like a man whose eyes were already on the lookout for a new wife. He sounded like a man who already wanted out of the marriage. Pastor Chris actually wants you and I to believe that he was the one called by God, and that his wife wasn’t called. He wants us to believe that he is a man of God, that his wife is not a woman of God. He wants us to believe that even though Anita is married to him, a man of God, that does not mean she is mature. He wants us to believe that since the wives of the Apostles and other great figures in the Old Testament were not written in the Bible; they were not women of God, they were not called by God; they were not set on course. Since their names were not found in the Bible, those women were probably spiritually immature and probably sinful. Since there were not a lot of great women, women of God in the Bible, it means only a few women even during the time of Christ were found worthy to be called and set on course by God. This is what he said: “If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you mature. …that is why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name?…what about all the other Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible? You never find their names.” You tell me, is that not an insult to women? I am deeply surprised that many people did not catch that. If he preaches that in the USA, the American women would take him to the cleaners and most women in his church would desert him. You don't utter such degrading things about women. Women are our mothers. Pastor Chris also tried to convince his congregation that he is not a preacher but a man of God, that a man of God cannot do anything against God because he is a man of God. That again is incorrect! No man of God is perfect. Every man of God is human and imperfect, and as such can act imperfectly. Pastor Chris is not a superhuman man of God incapable of falling into temptation. He's not incapable of falling into sin. Pastor Chris is not more called than Pope Francis who said, "I am a sinner. This is the most accurate definition. It is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. I am a sinner." Pastor Chris is not in any way closer to Jesus than the 12 Apostles who fell short from time to time. Pastor Chris is not more called than me. Even I always tell people that, “I am a lost sheep, found by the Good Shepherd.” Distorting the Bible to save face is not the way to go at this point in his life. He also claims he is a man called by God, set on course by God. He said he is not a preacher but a man of God. (I don’t understand that distinction actually). He therefore concludes having been called by God does not mean that his wife is also called by God, or is also a woman of God. That comment did not help his case at all. His wife would be really furious on hearing it. Anita is the woman he has been running the church with for several years. But she is now not a woman of God! I am praying for him and his wife to resolve their differences and get back to the ministry of God. Together, they are a beautiful couple. Together, they are stronger. Together, they flourished and would flourish even more. They should not allow this current situation to tear them apart. Marriage is “for better, for worse” not “for better, for better.” Rev. AdeniyiA: if you complain that your husband does not visit you and you too failed to visit, whose fault is it? your flocks?Did you read her court petition well? If you did you would have seen where she said several times she tried to point out issues to him but he was unyielding and accused her of being carnal. Did you also hear her say he even embarrasses her in front of those single girls that live with him. My problem with Anita is that she endured unnecessarily too much. Left for me I would have gone to the police long ago to get those shameless home breaker girls arrested and moved away from the ikeja house with Chris has indirectly turned to a brothel. |
stagger: If indeed this is the case, then this is indeed baffling. What will a woman who is not my wife be doing in my house? The girls are called "church workers". They do their church work from the "white house" which is where pastor chris lives in ikeja. The live with him and travel with him. Its strange but the man is comfortable with that arrangement for reason best known to him. |
One very important fact you forgot is never bring strange women into your matrimonial home to live. One of the points in Anita's petition which is a know fact is that different unclot single girls who call themselves "church workers" live in the white house with pastor chris for reasons best known to him. They also travel with him everywhere. The man is so comfortable with that arrangement inspite of the fact that Anita said she has severally told him to vacate the girls. To me its an abomination. It is one of the major roots of the divorce case. |
Jaglieski: God bless Pastor Chris.Bless him for what? For wrecking his own marriage or for introducing mastuurbation and self servicing to his church members? |
Blenvado: Am a proud member of CE and will always be. If I'm given another opportunity in the next world, I will identify with Jesus Christ through CE. I was at the communion service today and heard what Pst said about the divorce saga, I still believe God knows best how to handle our affairs individually and collectively. I will continue to pray as instructed by God and Pst for both himself and Pst. Anita whom I also love not becos I have met her personally or been pastored directly by her but just for being the wife of Pst Chris is enough to share in the grace. I must say she impacted my life as a young man back then in the University (BLW) Campus ministry. There's always a challenging time for everyone of us but if you know anything about challenges, you know it only makes us stronger. This one won't be an exception. CE church will come out stronger than it was before.Your proud pastor did not request that you pray for him. He only said people should pray for Anita only. Read his words very well. He feels he doesn't need any one's prayer and doesn't have a single blame whatsoever in the collapse of his marriage. It's very shameful of him. Those single girls that live with him in the white house whom he insults Anita in their presence are still with him. So don't waste your prayers on him young man. |
The man is a fuul. its obvious that he doesnt understand what marriage is all about. He is having problems with his wife and all he can say is "pray for her" instead of saying "pray for us". It shows how arrogant he is. Only a man who lays down his pride and accepts blame even if he is right is worthy praise. He has already destroyed the marriage and its only God that can help both of them. |
It's not just the Cardinal thats asking this question, even me myself is asking same question, especially about Mr Chris. How does a man who call himself a pastor be encouraging/recommending mastuurbation AKA self service in the church. Is that what he has been doing everynight since the past 16 years that his wife wasnt around? Its funny. His wife and kids are away in London and he feels comfortable having several unclot single girls living with him in the same house an travelling with him to lodge in same hotel. Sometimes i ask, what manner of man or couple is this family. This divorce accusations have answered A alot of my questions. |
"And when it comes to Rev. Anita, what I'd say to you is pray for her, don't act like 'why why why is she....". Mr Chris... your just a swine and a womanizer. You are having problems with your wife, its not just her that needs prayers, its both of you that needs prayers. Your comments above should be "pray for us" and not just "pray for her". But your arrogance and pride will not allow you say that hence you have crashed your marriage and will make your childrens life miserable henceforth. May God deliver you from this your empty arrogance and blindness. |
Boss13: The above shows an arrogant man indulging in creative deception. Your wife is not a woman of God but you appointed her to lead your UK division. She co-authors your daily devotional book. She preaches too and also claim to heal. Come Mr. Chris you can deceive your members but you cannot deceive the public. Which God made you his man? Mr. Chris you are a sexist and a man who demoralize women. Why did you marry her initiallyYour right my brother. So in other words he was just using the woman to accomplish his means, and now they are no longer together he has the guts to say she is not a woman of God. Meanwhile he made the woman the vice president of his ministry. why should he indirectly try to smear her image publicly because of their problems. Its very embarassing. |
genesismatthew: i wont call him Pastor. chris oyak is demon-incarnate. his followers worship him and not God. he is too flabouyant. imagine him "frying" his hair and allowing women to wear trousers to his shrine. God will judge him and other money loving self appointed pastors. The man is really demonic and a fraud. How can a man of God be decreeing seperation of couples in his church that can lead to divorce and encouraging members to indulge in mastuurbation and self servicing. so after breaking up their marriages like his own he tells them that the way out is to mastuurbate. what a pastor! |
thorpido: I'm quoting you just to put this right.Rev.Anita has not been away from pastor chris for sixteen years. They do see though he may not have been giving her quality time. There is a Higher Life Conference in London every year and Rev. Anita is always there in attendance. There is the IPPC conference in Nov. every year in Lagos,Nigeria and Rev.Anita is present.I don't know where you guys got the idea she has been abandoned for 16yrs.This is the kind of bad press he speaks about.Thats it, he only see her and the family during church programmes. he does make out to time and visit them, sit down and discuss issues and problems and share affection. The man is just an oaf. he must have thought the woman is just a piece of furniture to be used as decoration during church programmes. |
ojiefi: SINACH IS MARRIED AND SHE IS WITH HER HUSBAND....TAKE IT EASY. DONT BELIEVE WEVERYTHING YOU HEAR OR READ....Hmmm, is that so? so after contributing in destroying pastor chris marriage she has ran away to marry. hmmm, everyone will reap what they so. how about the other single girls that live with him in the white house. are they also married? wonders will never end. |
Mintayo: Pastor Chris is surrounded by demons disquised as ladies who arre sent to destroy his family and ministry!People like Sinach that travels with him every day and sleeps in the same hotel and house with him are No. 1. No wonder pastor chris insults his wife infront of those bastards- 'She feels humiliated by the way he treats her in the presence of his close female staff members' May God have mercy on them. |
