Teespice:
I noticed that particular line too.

post UME has never been the solution to the problem. the universities benefit from it financially.

are they saying it endangers quality education when half-baked graduates who cannot defend their certificates are churned out on a yearly basis.

ASUU has been pursuing their own interests from time immemorial, so they should say something else for a change.
Thank you very much Teespice. That is the question we should ask them. Do you know that many graduates are continually screwed by our present system? They graduate without knowing how to do anything. Just holding useless paper certificates without having anything to offer. So how does scrapping of post UTME affect the current situation?

Scrapping POST UTME is a no-no for me. Why should candidates who cheated all the way from O'Level to JAMB be granted admission over the genuine ones?

The Federal Ministry of Labour for kuku say make companies no dey do recruitment test again na. Na direct employment.

If FG premised the scrapping on financial burdens on parents, governments should provide post UTME grants to institutions to conduct the exams thus making it FREE for candidates.

Post UTME is the surest way of separating the wheats from the chaffs.
What makes you think that some of those who have successfully cheated through those levels don't still cheat through post UTME?

Lol.. This is funny. As expected, once it comes to money, everyone rebels.

And by the way, I don't just get this line at all: "“portends a serious danger for the quality of education in Nigeria"

Like seriously, what's the current quality of education in Nigeria?

Danger to what exactly?

The best thing that can happen to you is to accept reality and be the best you can be. Stop living a damned fake life, it doesn't help you rather it makes you more insecure!

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU'RE TOLD

Once upon a time in an African forest, a famer found an eagle's egg in a nest which had just fallen from a tree. He took it home and kept it in amongst his chickens under a brooding hen. When the egg hatched, the mother hen reared the eagle chick as if it were her own child.
.
And so that eagle chick grew up thinking that it was a chicken. It pecked like a chicken, it scratched like a chicken and it even walked like a chicken. As time went, it grew bigger and gazed at other birds in the sky.
.
Some of the birds would occasionally swoop down and say to it , "You are an eagle, you are one of us and you're the king of all birds. Come and fly with us."
But it would reply "I'm not an eagle, I'm a chicken," he'd tell them. "My mother's a chicken. I live like a chicken. I am a chicken. Leave me alone!"
.
And so it happened that this eagle lived and died like a chicken without every discovering who it really was.
.
Think about this story for a moment. This eagle totally conformed to its environment, lifestyle and beliefs without ever daring to take a risk, reevaluate itself and discover the truth about itself. It was even unwilling to listen to other eagles who totally recognised that it was indeed one of them.
.
Like this eagle, most of us believe everything we're told. We tend to think like most people and we usually want to believe what everyone else believes in. This leads us to lead a very mediocre life and in the end we end up just being average.
.
There is a reason why we are different. You must not fit into the crowd, you must not be like other people. You have to be yourself, listen to yourself and take action towards whatever you dream of.
.
All the successful people we know today all stood out because they did something differently. They didn't fit in. They discovered an entirely new way of perfecting themselves that no one else thought of. The leading scientists were able to challenge theories of their predecessors and discover new scientific facts.
.
We are not born to accept the norm, to be like everybody else and to believe in what everybody around us believes. You were born to stand out and be a shining light to your generation. If you become like everyone else, how will you effect change in your world?
.
Those things that are peculiar to you, those things that you're really interested in which few people around you admire or make jest about, HOLD ONTO THEM!
.
That other people are doing something does not mean you should join them to do it when you don't want to. That everyone believes something doesn't mean that it is true. You must challenge yourself and the the things that limit you of you want to discover who you really are. You must be daring, bold and courageous.
.
Don't be like the eagle which died like a chicken. Recognize who you truly are and develop that thing that makes you different from others. Our greatness lies in what makes us different from the crowd. What makes me different may not be what makes you different. You've got to find yours and develop it.
.
Know yourself and excel.

RomanceFace It! by Boldwinner(op): 11:30pm On Jul 11, 2016
ALWAYS FACE YOUR FEAR

Consider this short story:
.
One day, a young buffalo named Jack approached his father and asked him if there was anything that he should be afraid of. “Only the lions my son,” his father responded.
.
“Okay, I'd be careful around lions. If I see anyone, I’ll turn and run as fast as I can,” said Jack. “No, that’s the worst thing you can do,” said Jack's father. “Why? They will kill me," asked Jack
.
The dad smiled and replied, “Jack, if you run away, the lions will chase you and catch you. And when they do, they will pounce on you and tear you apart”.
.
“So what should I do?” asked Jack.
“If you ever see a lion, stand your ground to show him that you’re not afraid. If he doesn’t move away, show him your sharp horns and stomp the ground with your hooves. If that doesn’t work, move slowly towards him. If that doesn’t work, charge him and hit him with everything you’ve got!”
.
“That’s crazy, I’ll be too scared to do that. What if he attacks me back?” said the startled young buffalo. “Look around, Jack. What do you see?” Jack looked around at the rest of his herd. There were about 300 massive beasts all armed with sharp horns and huge shoulders.
.
“If ever you’re afraid, know that we are here. If you panic and run from your fears, we can’t save you, but if you charge towards them, we’ll be right behind you”.
The young buffalo breathed deeply and nodded. “Thanks dad, I think I understand".
.
Like young Jack, most of us are afraid to face our deepest fears. We'd rather run away and not face it squarely, but running away from our fears automatically means that we've lost.
.
We're afraid of many things: what people will think about us, failure, not meeting up with challenges etc. These fears often keep us trapped in the same situation and stifles our progress.
.
You cannot succeed without mastering your fears because it is only when we face then that we become free to make progress. Running away from it always loses outrightly.
.
So, how do you address your fears? First, you have to identify them all. Whether you're afraid of what people would say about you behind your back or you're afraid of what they'd think about how you look, how you talk, how you do anything, first identify these fears.
.
Secondly, ask yourself, what's the worst thing that could happen? If I try to make that speech or crack that joke and I get booed of stage, So what? It's far better than not trying. It has offered you a platform to discover your level of mastery and improve your loopholes. The audience will probably laugh and talk behind your back for that day, then so what?
.
If you really love someone and you want to ask her out on a date, what's the worst that could happen? One of two things would happen: either she agrees or she would decline, tell you she's not interested and probably giggle. So what? Would you kill yourself?
.
If you want to invest in that business. One of two things could happen: You either land a good deal and rake in millions or you lose some money. If you lose some money, so what? Many multimillionaires have lost much money in investments before getting wealthy.
.
The thing is that fear of losing keeps us from trying at all. Not trying at all means we've lost, but in trying, there is the 50% chance of being successful and this 50% really counts. It involves risk of course, but people who want to be successful must be willing to take that risk rather let the fear of losing make them automatically lose.
.
If you don't face your fears, the chances of success are reduced to Zero. Not taking a shot at all guarantees 100% failure. A popular quote says "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
.
Being successful involves risk. The one who is willing to be successful must be daring enough to take risks. Always ask yourself what's the worst that could happen? If you can answer that question very well, you will understand that all our fears are usually baseless and focused on things that don't even matter.
.
It doesn't matter if they laugh at you, it doesn't matter what they think about you look, it doesn't matter if most people say it's impossible, it doesn't even matter if you fail.
.
It only matters when you're daring to get up after each fall and try over again. We must cultivate the persistent attitude of courageously facing our fears and telling the world that were ready to continue taking risks and that the fear of failing cannot stop us from doing so.
.
Fear can be a good motivator if we master it. We must also accept the fact that in trying, we either win or lose.
.
Never let fear restrain your actions. Let it challenge you instead.
.
Till next time,
.
Nigel.

RomanceThe Danger Of Making Assumptions by Boldwinner(op): 8:39pm On Jul 10, 2016
It is common for man to easily make assumptions, form theories and jump into conclusion about things he's not even sure of. A major cause of this is that it suits man's ego to have that sense of pride in knowing everything. But this is more folly than wise.

You've often heard some quotes like "All men are the same" "All women are the same" , "All men are liars, all women are deceptive" etc.. All these fake postulations are made by people who have had few experiences and the "generalized" it to the whole. Truth is you cannot make such statements except you have experienced the character of either all men or all women.

Some claim that some things are impossible and that you shouldn't try. But many things have been invented by people who didn't believe in assumptions formed made others. It was once thought flying was impossible and that the earth was round. What's up with those postulations now?

The danger in making these dangerous assumptions about life, other human beings or events is that it has a way of repeatedly creating the experience of those assumptions for you! That's how dangerous it could be, because when you hold something to be very true, you tend to see it even when it is not there and you miss out on opportunities.

When I was a very little kid, my uncle told me that when it was very dark, a horrible monster would come and stay under our staircase and that it would carry me away if I went downstairs. I immediately held this statement as true and I strongly believed that a monster lived there.

Hence, the fear was real and I usually stayed upstairs at night and only went downstairs when accompanied by someone. It was with time that I decided to confront this monster, even though I can remember running down very fast the first Time I tried it.. But then I discovered that there was no monster there. And even boasted to my uncle later that there was nothing there.

Often times we form bad opinions about people, situations and events without attempting to understand them. We just hear what someone else has said and we immediately believe it to be true. This has hindered many people from making progress.

I have found from personal experience that some of the people I could've easily written off as bad people based on what I've been told about them have turned out to be the very best kind of people from my experience with them. And I've achieved what some of my peers thought was impossible.

It is wrong to believe what you're told about someone based on hearsay. You have to get to experience that person yourself before you can say something too about him or her.

We must make that attempt towards being sure and convinced of something rather than have blind belief in what other people tell us or what we have just assumed to be true. Human assumptions has often been wrong because no attempt was made to find out and be very certain.

When you are very sure of something, there will be no need to guess or assume anything about it. You only guess when you are not sure. And you can never be sure based on what people tell you because perceptions are different. The only way is to find out if you're not ready to gamble.

Many relationships have failed because of false assumptions. One woman had been enjoying her marriage to her dear husband until one gossip came around and told her that she saw her husband somewhere with a woman.. And then angrily without questioning anything the woman went to meet her husband and accused him of cheating on her. The man couldn't say a word.. It was after she had exhausted her aggression that it was later understood that the lady with her husband was a distant cousin who just flew into the country. And that's what assumption without appropriate verification does.

Assumptions could create mistrust and the downfall of any relationship commences when the trust has been shaken. You don't just assume things in your head and believe them to be true. It doesn't work that way. How would you feel if I never knew you and I strongly believe you were bad, when I don't even know a thing about you? That's how this assumption thing works . We often think everybody thinks the Same way as we do, but that is very wrong.

I have learnt to ask questions. Why? What? Where? How? When? I continue to ask questions and seek to experience because I don't assume to "know it all"... The one who claims to know it all is usually the one who knows nothing because there is no more room for learning in his mind.

Whenever we hear something, let us not be quick to accept it. Whenever we suspect something, let us not be quick to believe it. Whenever we've experienced the character of a few people, let us not be quick to generalise. We must pause, reflect, think and find out certain things before we believe them and hold them as true.

That way, we will be free from dangerous assumptions.

Bold winners don't just assume, they dare to find out and be certain of things before believing them.

Until next time.

-Nigel
