Wow from what I have read so far, It seems these two words "Oyinbo" and "Oyibo" were developed independently in the Yoruba and Igbo tribes respectively. What a coincidence.

UrbanMystique: conspiracy theory: i think americans sent him. they know if the populous nation and biggest economy in africa gets infected with the virus, they will make more money selling vaccine to us because they know fully well that nigerians will definitely look up to them..
That's exactly what I was thinking of.

Hey you guys should calm down am not wishing anyone death but it better one man dies than hundreds of people. Their are many people who might have ebola but keep it to themselves because of shame. At the end of the day they spread the disease to many people and will most likely die because of lack of medical care. The curfew won't kill them it's their ignorance that would kill them.

Education / The Origin Of The Word Oyibo by Bolt3(m): 3:25am On Aug 08, 2014
The origin of the word is difficult to ascertain, some people believe the name is coined from the Yoruba translation of "peeled skin" or "skinless" which in Yoruba translates to "yin" - scratch "bo" - off/peel. In Igbo language demonym takes the form " onye + the place of origin" of the person, hence, and Igbo person is called " Onye Igbo". A Yoruba person is called " Onye Yoruba". A German is "onye Germany". Thus the first white people were called "onye ocha" for singular and "ndi ocha" for plural meaning "white person and white people" respectively. This was because the Igbo people of those days did not know from where the white people came. Interaction between the Igbos and the white people resulted in the white people trying to refer to the Igbos with a name similar to what the Igbos called them, but there was problem in pronouncing Igbo words due to presence of double lettered alphabets which involve nasal pronunciation,in some of the consonants such as 'ch', 'gb', 'gh', 'gw', 'kp', 'kw', 'nw', 'ny', 'sh'. These were not present in English language hence the difficulty in the white man's effort in giving the Igbos similar demonym as the Igbo people had given to him, instead a name resulting from a mutilation of Igbo words was produced "Oyi ibo' instead of " onyi igbo' meaning 'Igbo person' just as he 'the white man' was called ' onye ocha' meaning 'white person'. It was this 'oyi ibo' that the Igbos later started referring to as 'white person' in a way of mocking the white man for his inability in saying "Onye Igbo". This would later be adopted by other Southern Nigerian tribes as the standard name for the white man and coupled with dialect variance one obtains different pronunciations such as "Oyinbo' in Yoruba and other western Nigerian tribes. Also, 'Oyibo' means English Language in Igbo. In general usage it may refer to individuals with various skin complaints such as vitiligo or genetic conditions such as albinism.

I feel that the best way to stop #EbolaOutbreak is declare a 2 weeks nation wide curfew that way ebola carriers can not spread the virus and before the curfew ends some would have died and the ones who survive would no more be carriers. Any other suggestion?

Politics / Re: Miraculous Delivery Of Oga Jonah By Chimamanda Adichie by Bolt3(m): 10:01pm On Jul 19, 2014
blackprowler: My gut feeling has moved to disliking her. She's being given more attention than she deserves by the nigerian press. She's not the only nigerian author. Other Nigerian authors have won more prestigious literary awards than her. Winning the greatest literary award doesn't make you authority over any other subject but the one you know. We have suffered enough mumuness inthis country. I started to see her true self when she commented on Achebe's ill-informed, prejudiced last book. My view on her has subsequently been confirmed by me: she's the younger version of Achebe, all with ethnic bias
That gut feeling is called jealousy.
