Politics / FG: Nnamdi Kanu Masterminded Killing Of 60 People In Four Months by boman2014: 10:40am On Jul 01, 2021
The federal government says Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), orchestrated the killing
of 60 people and the destruction of property in 55 violent
attacks across the south-east and south-south zones within
four months.

According to NAN, the federal ministry of foreign affairs said
this in a letter to Western diplomats dated April 26, 2021.

The ministry in its letter, objected to a statement by an
agency of a Western nation whose government had said the
creation of Eastern Security Network (ESN), based on its own
understanding, was to combat insecurity.

It said it considered the statement by the Western nation as
“justifying the establishment of a militia by a non-state actor
and glossing over the destructive and violent acts of IPOB
and the ESN”.

“In under four months this year, IPOB has carried out over
fifty-five (55) violent acts in various parts of Southeast
Nigeria killing scores of people and destroying many
properties,” the letter said.

“Indeed it would seem that the position of the (western
nation) seems to have further emboldened Nnamdi Kanu the
self-confessed leader of IPOB.

“As recently as 22nd April, 2021, broadcasting online from his
base in London, Mr Kanu has issued series of instructions to
his militia and other members of the outlawed organisation,
on acts of violence to be carried out within the territory of
Nigeria.”

The letter mentioned some of the alleged instructions by
Kanu which are to hunt down the Fulani, attack governor
Obiano of Anambra state, and kill any landlord that gives
accommodation to government security personnel.

“For example, a day after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia
State has confirmed to newsmen that Nnamdi Kanu has
ordered members of the group to kill him and other South-
East Governors, which orders were repeated on Radio Biafra,
the private residence of Imo State Governor, Hope
Uzodimma, in his hometown in Omuma, Oru East Local
Government Area of Imo State, was attacked and set ablaze
and two of the security men attached to the house were
killed,” the federal government said.

The letter then listed the IPOB attacks in the south-east and
south-south zones as: “Abia: Between January 26 and April
19, 2021, six policemen were killed while property worth huge sums were destroyed by IPOB members in coordinated
attacks at Uratta junction, Aba North LGA; Omoba Police
Station, Isiale-Ngwa South LGA; Abriba Community in Shari'a
LGA, and Uzuakoli Police Station in Bende LGA.

“Akwa Ibom: 25 persons, including security personnel were
killed in deliberate attacks on different locations across the
state, between January 27 and April 19, 2021.

“Cross River: Seven police officers were killed at Calabar-
Ikom highway in Obubra and Yakur LGAs, on March 2, 2021,
while a soldier was killed two days later on March 4 at a
military checkpoint at Obubra Junction in Obubra LGA.

“Delta: Between January 10 And April 14, IPOB members
attacked and killed 11 persons including security personnel in Ughelli, Ndokwa East, Ezza South, Onicha, Ezza North,
Ohaozara, Ohoukwu, LGAs.

“Enugu: Three policemen were killed in attacks on different
locations across the state between February 28 and April 18.
“Imo: Between January 3 and April 24, 2021, IPOB members
killed seven persons and injured many others in different
attacks in Orlu, Obouo, Aboli Mbaise, Chitte Uboma, Isiala
Mbano, Owerri, Njaba, Mbatoli, Oru East LGAs.

“Rivers: On April 17, 2021, IPOB operatives killed an NSCDC
operative on guard duty at Shell crude oil manifold in
Elelewon village in Obio/Akpor LGA and injured many
others.”

Kanu, who jumped bail in 2017 and fled the country, was
arrested and re-arraigned before Binta Nyako of the federal
high court in Abuja on Tuesday.

Politics / Drama As 2 Female Convicts Resist Return To Prison (photos) by boman2014: 7:55pm On Jun 30, 2021
A dramatic incident has played out at the Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt following the refusal of two female defendants, Ada Ebere and Favour Godwin to be taken to prison.

The women were seen rolling on the floor of the courtroom while crying that they cannot go back to prison.

Ada Ebere and Favour Godwin were sentenced to 10 years and 15 years imprisonment respectively for conspiracy, stealing and child trafficking.

Immediately Chief Magistrate Felicitas Amanze pronounced their sentences that the ladies were guilty of all three charges, two of the women burst into tears and started rolling on the floor of the court while refusing to follow the two female Correctional Center Officers.

It took the combined efforts of Correctional Center Officers and a Police Officer to pull them off the floor and jointly handcuff them.

However, another female defendant, Kodirichi Nwankwo who narrowly escaped a jail sentence, for an offence that happened at Igbo-Etche in Etche local government area of Rivers State since 2018, for her role in the abduction and sale of four-year-old Uwana Emmanuel was singing and praising God.

The court discharged the first defendant, Kodirichi Nwankwo, for showing genuine remorse during the trial of the case, she was ordered to report every month to the court for two years.

Chief Magistrate Felicitas Amanze stated that the Court decided not to send Nwankwo back to the Correctional Center because of the four-year-old child she was carrying, and who was given birth to while in prison custody during the trial of the case.

The two female defendants, Ada Ebere and Favour Godwin have led away into a waiting prion vehicle in cuffs amidst loud wailings.

Politics / How Nnamdi Kanu Hired American Firm To Help Promote IPOB In $750k Deal by boman2014: 2:03am On Jun 30, 2021
On Tuesday, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the
federation, announced the arrest and extradition of Nnamdi
Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The IPOB leader was subsequently re-arraigned before a
federal high court in Abuja for charges bordering on alleged
treason.

Binta Nyako, the presiding judge, ordered that the
Department of State Services (DSS) remand Kanu till July 26
for the continuation of trial.

In April 2017, the IPOB leader was granted bail by the court
on charges bordering on treasonable felony but later skipped
the bail.

He later left Nigeria after soldiers raided his father’s
residence in Abia state in November 2017.

During his sojourn abroad, Kanu had reportedly signed some
deals and formed alliances in a bid to achieve the Biafra
goal.

“Their problem is Nnamdi Kanu and the solution to their
problem is referendum. They gave me conditional bail to
cage me and IPOB but I refused,” he had said during a
broadcast.

THE $750,000 IPOB DEAL WITH AMERICAN FIRM

According to a report from Foreign Lobby , Kanu signed a
contract with BW Global Group, an American lobbying firm, to
help promote IPOB in a bid to achieve the secession
objective of Biafra.

The report noted that the firm is co-owned by Jeffrey Birrel
and Alan White.

The one-year deal is said to have taken effect from March 1,
2021, and cost Kanu and IPOB $750,000 — an equivalent of
over N300 million at the current Central Bank of Nigeria
(CBN) exchange rate of N410 to one US dollar.

“BWGG shall provide IPOB with services relating to the
promotion of human rights and democracy, and shall
otherwise act as an advocate for the indigenous people of
Biafra,” a document relating to the contract reads.

“BWGG shall provide services to the IPOB for a period of (1)
one year, commencing on the March 1, 2021, through
February 28, 2022 and becomes effective on the date of this
agreement on, which is the date of the Client’s signature of
this consulting services agreement.

“BWGG shall be paid a fee for its professional services
$750,000 for one year covering the period of March 1, 2021
through February 28, 2022.

The new agreement was said to be a replacement of a
previous deal signed with Mercury Public Affairs, another US-
based lobbying firm.

In September 2019, Kanu had reportedly signed an $85,000-
a-month deal ($1 million/year) with Mercury Public Affairs.
But the firm was said to have only disclosed $254,000 in
payments with the US Department of Justice for all of 2020.

IPOB’s ALLIANCE WITH CAMEROONIAN SEPARATIST
GROUP

Kanu had also reportedly formed an alliance with the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovV), the separatist movement in Southern Cameroon, to exchange weapons and personnel.

The separatist group also established a security outfit named Eastern Security Council (ESN) to “halt every criminal activity
and the terrorist attack on Biafraland”.

The emergence of ESN, however, coincided with a spike in
attacks against security and government infrastructure in the
south-east.

TheCable found out that killings in the south-east tripled after the security outfit was launched — but the group denies any wrongdoing.

Politics / Biafra/Oduduwa: Agitators For Nigeria’s Breakup Are Useless Youths – Sheik Gumi by boman2014: 6:46pm On Jun 28, 2021
Seccessionists campaigning for Nigeria to be divided
have been labled as 'useless' by controversial
Islamic Cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, the cleric who has
always drummed support for bandits killing and
kidnapping innocent Nigerians said that agitators
should be ignored.

He described agitators for Biafra, Oduduwa republic
and Arewa as ‘useless youths’, saying they are the
same as ‘Boko Haram’.

Responding to a question on agitations for the
division of Nigeria, Gumi said: “Who is coming to
divide us? Let me give example, General Murtala
Mohammed, the man from Kano, the head of state
that was assassinated by Dimka, his wife is a Yoruba
woman. So where do you want his children to go? if
the nation is divided?”

“Are they going to be with the Yorubas or are they
going to be with hausas in the north?”

“Look, let’s forget these Useless youth. These people
agitating for Oduduwa and Biafra or Arewa or this
Boko Haram, they are the same group of people.”

“Majority of Nigerians want to stay in Nigeria, if they
are in doubt, let’s make a referendum.”

Politics / Buhari: My Appointments And Policies Have Been Fair, Inclusive by boman2014: 6:56pm On Jun 21, 2021
Buhari spoke on Monday in Abuja at a conference organised
for youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The president has been accused of appointing people mainly
from the north — an allegation he has denied.

Represented by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government
of the federation (SGF), the president said there is no part of
the country that has not been “impacted positively in the
areas of infrastructure, agriculture and economic support
initiative based on peculiarities of the regions.”

“So far, all the policies, initiatives, projects and even
appointments by this administration have been guided by
equity and inclusiveness,” Buhari said.

The president said all those threatening the peace of the
country would be dealt with.

“As you are all aware, we are currently dealing with some
internal security challenges and I would like to reassure you
that as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, no
effort will be spared in tackling them,” he said.

“As I have repeatedly said in recent weeks, every criminal
element that has taken up arms against the peace of the
country and its citizens will be brought to book accordingly.”

Buhari said the youth should not relent in nation building as
“we have no other country but Nigeria”.

“Never despair, nor relent in our joint task of nation building.
Remember, we have no other country but Nigeria,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of every one of us to work towards
the development and advancement of this country.”

Earlier, Ismaeel Ahmed, APC youth leader, said the
conference was organised to “energise” a progressive
movement in the country.

Ahmed said the APC should be made a party of mostly
young people.

Sports / Heavyweight Boxer, Deontay Wilder Says He Hails From Edo State, Nigeria by boman2014: 12:24pm On Jun 20, 2021
Former World Boxing Champion, Deontay Wilder, has
disclosed that he has traced his roots to Edo State, Nigeria.

In a viral video seen by SaharaReporters on Saturday, Wilder
said he would like to go back home to learn about his culture.

The United States professional boxer said, “I want to go back
and learn more about my culture and information with things
about me. Once I’m done with what I’m doing, I’m going back
to see my tribe, Edo.

“I want to see my culture and my ancestors and learn a lot of
things. We all have lots of things that we are connected to
that we know nothing about. I’ll love to go there and do
research about my roots and my tribe.”

Wilder, who adopted the moniker “Bronze Bomber”, enjoyed a five-year reign as the WBC heavyweight champion between
2015 and 2020, losing his strap in a bout with Tyson Fury in
February 2020.

It is not immediately clear if Wilder’s realisation of his roots
informed his moniker, “Bronze Bomber.”

The Binis in Edo State are known for their expertise in bronze
works. Unfortunately, many ancient Benin bronze carvings
were carted away to the West during colonial raids.

After suffering his first professional defeat at the hand of Fury in a seven-round bout last February, the former WBC
champion will in July seek to reclaim his title as he takes on
Fury for the third time.

The fight is billed to be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada
on July 24, and the winner would challenge Anthony Joshua.
Nigeria has been a force in world boxing since the 1940s,
producing top boxers like Dick Tiger and Hogan Bassey; both
undisputed world champions, Tiger at middle and light
heavyweight, and Bassey at featherweight.

Nigeria has had a fair share of boxing champions, producing
the likes of Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.

Politics / EFCC to arraign Orji Kalu for Fraud Eight months after Retrial Verdict by boman2014: 5:14pm On Feb 01, 2021

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Orji Kalu, former governor of Abia state, before a federal high court in Abuja on charges of alleged fraud.

The arraignment of the former governor is fixed for Tuesday, February 2, before Inyang Ekwo, a federal high court judge.

Kalu who is currently the chief whip of the senate was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in December 2019 after he was convicted for diverting N7.1 billion from the coffers of Abia state during his time as governor.

The EFCC had preferred a 36-count charge against him and Ude Jones Udeogu, a former director of finance and account in Abia.

Udeogu was also convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Displeased with the judgement, Udeogu had filed an appeal to challenge the conviction.

His lawyers argued that Mohammed Idris, the judge who handed down the ruling, lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case because he had been elevated to the appeal court at the time he sentenced them to prison

On May 8, 2020, the apex court, in a unanimous verdict on the appeal delivered by Ejembi Eko, declared that the conviction of the appellant was null and void.

The supreme court nullified the trial on the grounds that Mohammed Idris, the trial judge, had no jurisdiction to hear the matter after he was elevated to the court of appeal.

The apex court ordered that the case be issued to another judge for a fresh

Politics / Igbo People Can’t Unite For Presidency Yet Talk About Biafra by boman2014: 7:56am On Jan 05, 2021
Chimamanda Adichie gave her opinion about
Biafra during her interview with Ebuka Obi-
Uchendu.

The renowned writer wondered how Igbos can
achieve Biafra when they can't unite towards
selecting a Nigerian president who is from the
region.

The 43-year-old said Igbo people need to
rethink how they strategise politically before
talking about secession.

She said: "There is no Biafra. There are new
movements but, for me, it’s a question of being
practical. Where would the border be? What is
propelling these movements is a sense of
marginalisation, which I think is completely valid.

"But this idea that the answer is independence
is what I’m not convinced of. Nobody has made a
logical case for me. Quite frankly, I’ve observed
the terrible leadership that we have in the
southeast.

"Igbo people cannot unite if, for example, we
say we want an Igbo president. And then we’re
talking about Biafra. There is a lot of political
work we need to do in the southeast.

"We need to do a lot of rethinking on how we
strategise politically before we can talk about
Biafra."

She also spoke about misogyny in the South East
and its effect on politics.

She said: "There are things I quarrel with, in
Igbo culture. It’s misogynistic, as are many
cultures. That’s the problem. The world is
misogynistic. At my father’s funeral, they
showed where the widow, my mother, would sit.

"And they showed where the sons in the
extended family (umunna) would sit. That’s
where those coming would go to present
whatever they bring. It’s the sons’. And that
was the end. My father had three daughters.
There was no place for them.

"I raised the question and a man in my umunna
said we would have to loiter around. There’s a
problem with that.

"There’s a woman who apparently is going to run
for governor in Anambra state.

"I’m having a conversation with a group of
people and what they’re saying is, ‘Can a woman
rule Anambra?’ Do you need a dangling organ to
rule a state? It’s hard enough for both male
and female politicians.

"But women have this additional problem of
perception, a reason for which many people
won’t vote them.

"Igbo culture is just not very good when it comes
to gender. Culture as we have it are rules men
made to benefit men.

"In my hometown, I seem to have this status of
an ‘honorary man’ and that’s because of my
achievements. People adapt when they see some
benefits to it which means that it’s changeable.
It’s engraved on the stones."

Crime / Gtbank Staff And CBN Official Burnt Bullion Van, Stole N70m In Kano (video) by boman2014: 6:44am On Dec 12, 2020
According to DAILY NIGERIAN, two Nigerian
brothers identified as Yusuf Mukhtar and Bashir
Mukhtar, have conspired to commit a grievous
crime.

The brother who are staffers of CBN and GTBank
respectively, have allegedly conspired to steal
over N70m by burning down a bullion van to cover
up their tracks.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the duo conspired
with the driver of the van to pour petrol on the
vehicle and set it on fire on November 13 in an
isolated track on the new campus of Bayero
University, Kano.

Insiders said when they set the van on fire around
6:47pm, they removed some of the money and put
them in another vehicle before the arrival of fire
fighters and the police.

This newspaper gathered that Bashir, who
coordinates cash movement at the GTBank in
Kano, abused his position by deliberately accepting
mutilated naira notes that are marked for
destruction from his brother, Yusuf, who works at
the state apex bank office.

“After accepting the money, they will then swap
them with good notes and hide in their homes,”
said a source familiar with the investigation.

“The plot went awry when Bashir realized that
auditors will soon query the enormity of mutilated
notes, trace their sources, dates of receipt,
among others. So they organized the arson and
make it look natural.”

Witnesses in the university told DAILY NIGERIAN
that they saw the occupants of the van setting
fire on it and removing some of the money from
the burning vehicle.

A series of videos obtained by this newspaper also
show the vehicle burning, with onlookers
questioning the fire “incident”.

Sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that fire service
officers and police detectives also suspected a
foul play in the “fire accident” when they
detected the smell of petrol on some half burnt
notes inside the armored compartment.

The driver of the van, a staff of Bankers
Warehouse, was first arrested, and upon
investigation, he confessed to the crime and
named Bashir and others as his accomplice.

Bankers Warehouse, according to their website, is
a private company that “has a Service Agreement
with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to
receive, process, sort, vault and pay out cash to
Deposit Money Banks (DMB’s), on behalf of the
CBN.”

Sources said that the deal couldn’t have been
struck without connivance of some officials of the
company.

But upon interrogation, Bashir admitted that his
sibling partner-in-crime allegedly supplied the
mutilated notes and swapped them with good ones
from GTBank.

After obtaining a search warrant, the police
detectives searched their houses and found
N40million hidden in their father’s house.

Sources said the two brothers resorted to
organizing the heist when their initial plan to
deposit the mutilated money at Bankers
Warehouse or CBN failed.

A banker who preferred not to be named said for
a bank to lodge huge amount of mutilated notes,
it has to apply to the branch controllers of the
apex bank for approval.

“Banks don’t just dump money at the CBN
anyhow. It will be hard for GTBank to make such
application without raising questions about the
enormity of the amount,” the banker said.

“There are Counted Audited Clean (CAC), which is
meant for circulation and the Counted Audited
Dirty (CAD), which is meant for destruction. So
the notes they used to fake the incident are
those meant for destruction”.

Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that the CBN in
Kano recently busted a plan to swap N90million
dirty notes that were earlier marked and
shredded for destruction by the same apex bank.
“Although this is a different case, but there is
indication that something is really fishy,” said a
source.

Cover-up by the police?

After detention of the two brothers at the
Criminal Investigations Department, the police
released all the suspects without filing criminal
charges against them.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the police
allegedly collected N1,500,000 to release them on
bail.

When contacted on Monday, the spokesman for the
Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa,
confirmed the arrest and recovery of the funds,
adding that the police are still investigating the
matter.

He said the brothers were released based on the
understanding reached by all the parties involved
to return the money.

When our reporter queried whether a criminal
offence of this nature could be “forgiven” by the
police without filing charges, the police spokesman
said he should be given time to get more details
of the case.

Mr Kiyawa did not respond to repeated calls on
Wednesday, seeking further clarification on the
matter.

Sources however told DAILY NIGERIAN that the
bank is more concerned about “recovery of stolen
funds” as prosecuting the staff involved may
cause the bank embarrassment.

The Head of Corporate Communication of GTBank,
Tolulope Onipede, did not respond to calls and
email seeking the response of the bank.

Religion / Fr Mbaka And Church Members Allegedly Assault BBC Journalists by boman2014: 5:04pm On Dec 10, 2020
Father Ejike Mbaka, one of the most popular
Catholic priests in Nigeria, and some members of
his church, are said to have assaulted a BBC
team.

According to BBC News, the Catholic priest
assaulted the BBC crew and two others at his
complex in Emene town in south-eastern Enugu
State on Wednesday evening.

BBC journalists Chioma Obianinwa and Nnamdi
Agbanelo, as well as their driver, Ndubuisi Nwafor,
were accompanied by another Catholic priest,
Father Cajethan Obiekezie and his assistant,
Solomon Orakam, to Father Mbaka’s Adoration
Ministry at around 10:00 local time on Wednesday.

Father Obiekezie had facilitated an interview with
Father Mbaka, but it could not be immediately
held because he was preaching.

The BBC crew, led by Father Obiekezie, moved to
Father Mbaka’s home after the church service to
conduct the interview at around 17:00.

When Father Mbaka got home, the journalists, who
were waiting in the car after Father Obiekezie
went to talk to him, were suddenly surrounded by
about 20 men.

According to Obianinwa, the men seized their
equipment and threatened to kill them for writing
"negative reports about Mbaka".

“Mbaka asked us to wait until the end of the
programme for the interview. The men outside his
house said BBC Igbo writes negative things about
Mbaka and started beating Nnamdi, Solomon and
Ndubuisi. They gave them heavy blows on their
heads and all over their body,” Obianinwa said.

The BBC reporter further said that Father Mbaka
and Father Obiekezie came out of the house when
they heard the noise and that Father Mbaka
faced her and started poking his fingers in her
face, calling her "satanic".’

“This fired up the men to continue the attacks as
Father Mbaka continued shouting and abusing us.

He asked his men to seize our phones and cameras.

They said they would kill us and nothing would
happen. They removed my wig and tried to
strangle Nnamdi. Father Obiekezie was telling
them to stop but they attacked him too and
seized his phone,” she said.

Obianinwa said the attacks stopped when she
screamed that “the world would know that they
were killed in Mbaka’s house”.

“At this point, Father Mbaka asked us to leave
before his men killed us. He asked them to return
our equipment and they chased us out of the
compound. His men trailed us till we left the state
to seek medical assurance and police help,” she
said.

When the BBC called the number on Father
Mbaka’s official Facebook page for his reaction, it
was switched off.
