Men of the Imo state police command on April 20th, raided a hideout of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB/Eastern Security Network (ESN), its militia wing, where they manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices used in attacking Police Stations and Government facilities in the state.

A statement by CSP Michael Abattam, spokesperson of the
state police command, says the police oeratives received an intelligence report and immediately mobilised to the hideout of the terror group located at Uba Umuaka in Njaba LGA of Imo State and raided the camp.

"In the course of the raid, one Simeon Onigbo 'm' age 50
years was arrested. On the spot interrogation, the suspect
admitted being the manufacturer of most of the Improvised
Explosive Devices ( I.E.Ds) used in attacking police stations in the State and outside the State.

On searching the criminal hideouts items recovered includes the following: One already prepared Improvised Explosive Devices, Fifty eight pieces of Cannon Steel Pipe, Two Chisels, One Monday Hammer one and a half bag of Potassium Nitrate, thirty Pounds Weight of Sulphur, Fourty Pounds Weight of dry Sand, Ten Pounds Weight of Red Sand, Thirty Pounds Weight of Gun Powder, Half Bag of Charcoal, Thirty Electronic Motorcycle Batteries and Seven Lengths of 8 millimeters Iron Rods. Meanwhile, the Command's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) has taken over the recovered bomb for technical analysis and subsequently for possible detonation."he said

Abattam added that investigation is ongoing and that the
suspect has made useful statement about other members of his gangs outside the state who patronise him. Operatives of the Command are not relenting and all efforts are on top gear to arrest the named suspects.

“I will like us to reflect on what the situation was before we came in. How many Local Government Areas were under the control of terrorists in the North-East? In the South-South, we all know what the situation was; now we have relative peace. With the resources at our disposal, we have done very well.

People are very forgetful. Our main problem now is in the North West and North Central. People are killing one another in these places, what for? We are going to be very tough.’’

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige

The Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, is set to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities today, Monday, April 11, 2022, The PUNCH reports.

The meeting which is scheduled to commence by 5 p.m will have in attendance representatives of the Federal Government and ASUU.

The Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Patience Onuobia, in a notice of meeting sent to journalists on Monday, said Ngige will chair the meeting himself.

“The Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, will be meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities today by 5 pm,” the notice read.

The PUNCH reports that the ongoing industrial action by ASUU entered its 56th day Today (Monday).

ASUU had on Monday, February 14, 2022, announced a four week total and comprehensive warning strike following the inability of the union and the Federal Government to reach common ground on the demands of university lecturers.

Some of ASUU’s demands include the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.

Following the expiration of the initial four weeks of the warning strike, the union had gone ahead to declare another eight weeks saying that it was giving the government more time to attend to its needs.

The senate has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to
declare a full-scale war on gunmen terrorising communities
across the country.

The upper legislative chamber’s request came after Uba Sani,
senator representing Kaduna central, drew the attention of the
senate to an attack on a Kaduna-bound train.

The attack occurred around Kateri-Rijana area of Kaduna on
Monday.

The train was said to have almost reached Rigasa, its final
stop when the gunmen opened fire on it.

Some passengers were killed while others sustained injuries.
While contributing to a debate on the motion sponsored by
Sani on Tuesday, Gabriel Suswam, senator representing Benue
north-east, said the country is under attack and urgent
measures should be taken to address insecurity in the country.

“It is time enough for the appropriate authority to have taken
decisive actions to address the insecurity in our country,”
Suswam said.

“This is the time that we as a senate meet with the leadership
of this country to sit down and talk.”

On his part, Danjuma Laah, senator representing Kaduna
south, said if Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna governor, is not capable
of solving the security problems in the state, he should seek
help.

“In the whole country, the issue of Kaduna state is the worst.
There must be an urgent action immediately to solve all the
problems,” Laah said.

“If the governor is short of manpower, let him cry out.”
The motion was adopted after Senate President Ahmad Lawan
put it to a voice vote.

In the motion, the upper legislative chamber asked the army
and the air force to sustain their operations on the enclaves of
these gunmen.

It also asked the National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA) to provide relief materials for the victims of the attack.

Journalist and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele
Momodu, has joined the 2023 presidential race.

Momodu who declared his interest at the PDP
headquarters in Abuja today January 13, promised
to fix Nigeria if elected into office in 2023.

The former presidential candidate of the National
Conscience Party (NCP) in the 2011 election said
he is now better prepared to run, adding that he
“won’t be intimidated by anyone who feels he or
she can buy the whole of Nigeria with loads of cash
fraudulently”.

Speaking to newsmen, Momodu said;

“After due consultations with my family, friends and
some stakeholders, I have arrived at the decision to
contest the 2023 presidential election on the
platform of our great party, PDP, if selected as the
party’s candidate.

I hasten to add that this is my personal decision,
although I have received advice, encouragement and support from diverse quarters since I started my consultations.

I, therefore, offer myself to the PDP as the best
aspirant to turn the fortunes of our esteemed party
and our well-endowed country around. In this
regard, and with a deep sense of humility and
profound respect.

I urge the party not to consider picking its
candidate based on the usual considerations which
had spectacularly failed our country in the past. The
mood of the teeming youths, and indeed every
patriotic Nigerian, who we need to come out en
masse to vote for our party, aligns with this view.

It is for this reason, that I invite our great party,
PDP, to accept that it must search for a veritable
flag bearer with the requisite leadership and
visionary qualities that Nigerians now earnestly
yearn for.

“I’m convinced that the time has come to seriously
challenge and dislodge those politicians who have
held our country to ransom by kidnapping, hijacking and destroying the future of our younger generation and generations yet unborn.

“I’m better prepared now than at the time of my
first foray into the fray in 2011, and I am fully ready
and certainly capable for the onerous tasks and
responsibilities ahead.

“I wish to place on record my firm promise and
commitment not to be harassed, bullied or
intimidated by anyone who feels he or she can buy
the whole of Nigeria with loads of cash fraudulently
and illegally filched and taken from the Nigerian
people.”

Momodu added that Nigeria “urgently requires a
reset and a total redirection”.
