Men of the Nigerian army have taken over venues of #EndSARS protests in Abuja. The soldiers took over the sites this morning and were spotted at the popular Aya roundabout early Monday morning, with a roadblock and barricade. Also, police officers are stationed in front of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters with Armoured Personnel Carrier and water cannons. Protesters had defied Sunday night rain and camped overnight outside CBN headquarters protesting police brutality and extra-judicial killings. The Nigerian Army on Sunday said its ‘Operation Crocodile Smile’ which is kicking off across the country this week is not targeted at the #EndSARS protests. A statement issued by the Army Spokesperson Musa Sagir on Saturday noted that the exercise, scheduled to commence from October 20 to December 31, 2020, has no relationship with any lawful protest under any guise whatsoever. “For the records, Exercise Crocodile Smile is a yearly exercise in the Nigerian Army calendar/ forecast of events which traditionally holds from October to December of each year,” the statement read in part. Kiddwaya's father, Terry Waya has asked End SARS protesters to leave the streets so as to allow for peace to reign. Terry Waya took to Instagram to reveal that he's "fully" with protesters in the "battle to end not only SARS but all forms of brutality and oppression, whether military or government." However, he advised Nigerian youths, who have been protesting for more than a week now, to "allow peace to reign by leaving the streets and allow the government to implement what they have promised to do." President Buhari today October 18, met with President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the ongoing #EndSARS protests in all parts of the country. Angry mob beheaded and set five suspected armed robbers ablaze on Saturday in Akwa Ikot Effanga community, Akwabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State. It was gathered that a 7-man gang allegedly broke into a shop at about 3am on Saturday, October 17, and made away with electronic gatgets worth thousands of naira and undisclosed amount of money. The youths of the community laid ambush for the suspects. In the process, five of them were apprehended them while two managed to escape leaving the rest to face jungle justice. A very disturbing and gory video from the scene shows the remains of the suspected robbers and a motorcycle in flames. The head of one of the suspects was missing from his neck. Indigenous rapper, Phyno has accused the Enugu state government of threatening his life and that of other #EndSARS protesters. In a tweet he shared, he stated that the Enugu state government should be held responsible should anything happen to them. Phyno accused Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of storming the protest with thugs who tried to fight them. He tweeted; Enugu! A member of the UK Parliament, Kate Osamor, has written the Secretary of State for Foreign , Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Dominic Raab over financial and training supports extended to the disbanded Special Anti -Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force . In a letter dated October 15, 2020 obtained by The PUNCH , Osamor, who represents Edmonton, questioned the rationale behind the funding of the dreaded SARS . This is coming amid days of unending demonstrations by #EndSARS protesters , demanding a total overhaul of the Nigerian Police and an end to extrajudicial killings by men of the now- disbanded SARS . The protests have intensified despite the disbanding of the police unit and the announcement of the Special Weapons and Tactics to replace the defunct unit. The protests, which have been held in major cities across the country , have caused heavy traffic and affected economic activities . Osamor, who is also the Chair of the All - Party Parliamentary Group on Nigeria , stated that the now -defunct police unit has been involved in no fewer than 82 cases of torture, ill- treatment and extra- judicial killings since January 2017 . The rejection was in reaction to an attack unleashed on the protesters by thugs at Ikeja , the state capital,on Thursday . DMW act, Lil Frosh has been called out on social media for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend who is also a video vixen. Instagram user @mayoks_michael who shared photos of the injuries the assault victim sustained, alleged that he found out about the abuses on Monday June 22 after she (victim) turned down a music video shoot. Asides accusing Lil Frosh of making her sister/ client lose many jobs, @mayoks_michael also alleged that the singer recorded the lady naked and promised to share it on the internet after assaulting her. A Nigerian woman and her family are calling authorities to help rescue a lawyer, Bisola Ajayi who was taken away last night. Bisola was taken away by suspected uniformed men last night October 4, on her way back home in Rumukwurushi, Port Harcourt. According to reports online, Bisola was trailed to her house in a car by armed men. One of the men was allegedly in an Army uniform while two were in Police uniforms but they had no badges or identifiers. The uniformed men was said to have dragged the lawyer into a white Venza and took off. Her sister shared a video crying for help immediately after the “kidnap”. Friends and colleagues of the missing woman are calling for the authorities to help find her. President Muhammadu Buhari has proposed a 12- month time limit for criminal cases to heard and decided upon. Speaking at the 60th annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Buhari said justice administration in Nigerian courts moves at a “terribly slow pace”. The president, who was represented by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, said following his loss in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential polls, it took so long for the tribunal to hear the matter and pass their verdict. “At the end, I lost all three cases. I wondered then, why it needed to take so long to arrive at a verdict and if I had won the case, someone who did not legitimately win the election would have been in office all that time,” Buhari said. “In 2019, I was no longer a petitioner. I had now become a respondent in the case of Atiku and Buhari and the whole process took barely six months; just over six months. What was the difference? The law had changed since my own in 2003, 2007 and 2011. “You had now introduced time limits for election petitions. Everything must be done within a six to eight- month period.” Buhari said since time limits have been put in place for electoral cases, criminal and civil matters should also be time-bound. “My question then is why can’t we have a time limit for criminal cases? Why can’t we have a rule that will say a criminal trial all the way to the supreme court must not exceed 12 months? And why can’t we do the same for civil cases? Even if we say that civil cases must not go beyond between 12 and 15 months. I think that for me is stepping forward,” he said. Touching on the issue of judge’s appointments, the president recommended that aspiring judges should take tests. An video has surfaced online of an unidentified middle-aged man pleading for his driver's license to be returned to him in an "unusual" way. The man who knelt in front of an FRSC van, asked the road safety operatives to knock him down or return his driver's license. He also said repeatedly that he is a "family man" while asking the officials what he has done. 4 mast vandals based in Abuja have been arrested in Gombe by the state police command, new reports have shown. Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the command's spokeswoman Obed Mary Malum said they were arrested after an invasion of an MTN Mast in Yelwa village via Bambam town in Balanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State. The arrested suspects have been identified as Yunusa Osa, Salisu Akpara, Garba Onaribu, and Umar Owelo and they are said to be residents of Kubwa and Dutsen Alhaji in Abuja. Malum said; ‘The suspects specialise in vandaliing and stealing of Mast Engine Batteries all over the Federation who were brought from FCT Abuja by their cohort, one Abraham, an indigene of Bambam town in Balanga LGA of Gombe State,’SP Obed stated, disclosing that Abraham, who invited the gang to perpetuate the crime, is at large and that he is being hunted by the police. ‘The Police from Bambam Division acting on credible information arrested the suspects in a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Trespass, Vandalisation and Attempt to Commit Culpable Homicide. The suspects invaded an MTN Mast located at Yelwa village via Bambam town, tied up the security man, and removed 30 pieces of 7.5volt batteries. ‘However, they were sighted and pursued. Luck ran out on them as their vehicle developed mechanical fault and they were subsequently arrested. ‘1 Sharon Bus with Reg. No. BWR 622 SA, 30 pieces of 7.5Volt batteries, 1 Iron Bar, 1 Hand Saw, 1 Iron Cutter, 2 sets of Screw Drivers, 1 Iron Cable and, 1 Ankara Wrapper. Suspects confessed to the crime. The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) in Kano State, have applauded the death sentence handed to 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif-Aminu over an alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad. The group in a statement released by its Chairman Muhammad Sani Garba Esq, said the judge was right in his verdict in which he convicted and sentenced the accused to death without prejudice to the right of appeal of the convict, because the Supreme Court had set a precedent in the case of Abubakar Shalla Vs State in 2007. MULAN also urged Ganduje who is yet to react to the ruling, to sign the death warrant. The statement read; “The position of the Law under Shari’a is that any sane and adult muslim, who insults, defames, or utters words or acts which are capable of bringing into disrepute, odium, contempt of the holy Prophet, such a person has committed a serious crime punishable by death. “The general public should understand that Shari’a is a Muslim Law applicable only to Muslims. Any person who accepts to be Muslim must obey the provisions of Shari’a, whether it pleases him or not. THIERRY HENRY has emerged as a shock contender to replace Quique Setien at Barcelona, according to reports.
