Security agaents may be looking beyond the Boko Haram sect in their investigation into weekend’s explosions in Kuje and Nyanya in Abuja, The Nation learnt yesterday. “It may be an opportunistic crime by people with other motives. Boko Haram is not ruled out but nothing is also ruled out. It’s investigation that can determine the true situation and the investigation is in full swing,” a security source said. Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal and Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari led the government team to the explosion site on Saturday. Yesterday, security agents were still combing the Kuje site for evidence. The place remained cordoned off. No activities were allowed. Residents and pedestrians were still shocked. No fewer than 20 people died from the explosions. The 41 injured are being treated in hospitals. Vehicles coming into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were being thoroughly searched. Security operatives at checkpoints within the city especially those along the Airport road involved in the battle against terrorism in our country, rather it should reinvigorate their fighting spirit and be seen by government as a challenge to arm our forces with more sophisticated and superior weapons both for intelligence gathering and combat. “Beyond these, we urge our government to order the immediate reinvestigation, arrest and prosecution of all those previously indicted of sponsoring terror gangs, especially Boko Haram and other such violent groups in any part of the country. “The freedom of those who sponsor deadly violence put the entire country seated on timed bombs that can explode at will. No matter how highly placed, whoever have been indicted should immediately be apprehended and reinvestigated now. “We urge all Nigerians to see the battle against terrorism as our collective battle and therefore every resident must make information about suspicious movements or behaviours in and around them available to relevant security agencies who must act on such information in our collective national interests. “We condole with the families of all the victims of these attacks and urge government to ensure provision of the best medical attention and treatment for the injured.” To the NLC, bombings “obviously by decimated terrorists” are a call for communal vigilance by all residents. “It has become obvious that since the massive pounding of the sanctuaries of the terrorists, fragments of the terror cliques may have organised smaller cells in communities hitherto thought not to be vulnerable. “These latest attacks are particularly dangerous as they were carried out at night and in locations where late purchases are made. One of the locations, Kuje, is on the route to our major international airport,” the NLC said. http://thenationonlineng.net/probe-of-abuja-explosions-to-extend-beyond-boko-haram/ |
The Nigerian presidency has confirmed the arrest of a former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in London, over allegations of corruption and money laundering. “The government is aware of the arrest and all the government investigative agencies are working very closely with the British law enforcement,” the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu, told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. “Nigerian authorities are saying for the first time that matters are being handled with seriousness and deep commitment. Nobody wants to give the impression that this government is frivolous and unserious. “For this reason, government is only confirming active collaboration. Beyond this, we are not saying more. In due course, Nigerians will be briefed on updates as appropriate.” Asked about the identities of the other four people arrested with the former minister, Mr. Shehu declined comments, saying, “as I said no one is willing to provide further details at this point”. The presidential confirmation came two days after Mrs. Alison-Madueke was arrested and granted bail by the UK National Crime Agency over allegations of corruption and money laundering. PREMIUM TIMES had on Friday exclusively reported the arrest of the former minister, alongside four others. The identities of the four other people arrested along with Mrs. Alison- Madueke, could not be immediately ascertained. Former minister accused of graft Mrs. Alison-Madueke, one of the most influential officials of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, was first appointed into the federal cabinet in 2007. A former board member of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, she was later appointed Minister of Transport by former President Umaru Yar’adua. In December 2008, she was redeployed to the mines and steel development ministry. After former Vice President Goodluck Jonathan became acting president, Mrs. Alison-Madueke was appointed Nigeria’s first female petroleum minister in February 2010, a position Mrs. Alison-Madueke held till May 29, 2015 when Mr. Jonathan left office. Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s tenure as petroleum minister turned out one of Nigeria’s most controversial, amid unending allegations of massive corruption. Under her watch, dubious oil marketers stole trillions of naira of oil subsidy money. She retained her position despite an indictment by the House of Representatives which investigated the fuel subsidy scandal. Probes by independent audit firms, including the KPMG and PriceWaterhousecoopers, confirmed that billions of dollars of oil money were missing. The most notable case of missing money involved $20billion in 2014, as alleged by a former Central Bank governor, Lamido Sanusi. Several shady deals exposed by PREMIUM TIMES and confirmed by government and independent auditors were linked to the former minister and her cronies. Long before her stint in the oil and gas sector, Mrs. Alison-Madueke was investigated by the Nigerian Senate on allegation she paid N30.9 billion to contractors while she held office as transportation minister. In 2009, the Senate indicted and recommended her prosecution for allegedly transferring N1.2 billion into a private account of a toll company without due process. Regardless of the indictments, Mrs. Alison-Madueke got elected in November 2014 as the first female president of oil producing countries alliance, OPEC. The former minister consistently denies wrongdoing. In June, after leaving office, she rejected all allegations of embezzlement saying she never stole from Nigeria. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/191027-presidency-speaks-out-on-alison-maduekes-arrest-in-london.html |

INTROVERT:ADDED |
The immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison- Madueke, was on Friday arrested in London, PREMIUM TIMES can exclusively and authoritatively report. The former minister, who was one of the most powerful officials of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, was arrested Friday morning alongside four other people by the British law enforcement agency. The identities of the four other people arrested along with her could be immediately ascertained. PREMIUM TIMES learnt she was arrested for offences related to bribery and corruption being investigated by the UK National Crime Agency. Two top British officials in London have however confirmed the development to this newspaper. They requested not to be named because they have no permission to speak on the issue. The British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that some arrests were made Friday but declined to disclose the identities of those involved. Joseph Abuku, Press and Public Affairs Officer, said, “This morning, five people between the ages of 21 and 60 were arrested on suspicion of bribery and corruption offences. The crimes are being investigated by the National Crime Agency. “The National Crime Agency does not confirm identity at arrest nor provide information that could be used to corroborate the identity of an arrested individual.” It is not clear whether the former minister was arrested based on request from the Nigerian government. President Muhammadu Buhari had on September 27 hinted that those who misappropriated billions of naira belonging to Nigeria’s state oil company NNPC, would soon be prosecuted. Mr. Buhari said at a meeting with President Xi Jinping of China in New York that his administration was determined to fully sanitize Nigeria’s oil industry and make it totally free of corruption and shady deals. The President did not, however, say how soon the prosecutions would start or if indeed investigations had been concluded and whether culpable individuals had been identified. However, Mrs. Alison-Madueke, accused of several corrupt dealings, has stayed away from Nigeria since Mr. Buhari was sworn-in as president. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/190933-exclusive-ex-petroleum-minister-diezani-alison-madueke-arrested-in-london.html |

SAW THIS ONLINE AND DECIDE TO SHARE I, my girlfriend and three other friends were having a jolly discussion last night at a friends house and while talking, my girlfriend threw up. One of the ladies there jokingly asked her if she was pregnant.. and my girlfriend laughed if off saying no, that if she was pregnant she would know. The lady asked her if she'd had child before and girlfriend said no but she'd been pregnant before but she had an abortion. She said it so casually like she was talking about the price of aso- ebi. The abortion was for an ex-boyfriend, not me, so you can imagine my embarrassment. I called her later to blast her over what she said and insisted it's not a big deal. How is abortion not a big deal? If she can confess to one, how many has she done? I'm thinking of breaking up with her. Would I be right to do so? LINK HERE |
