Igwe Alex Nwokedi, the Uthopo na Eze Achalla, Anambra state, in the interview granted to the Vanguard has shared his views on the calls for Biafra. Nwokedi was a press secretary to the head of state during the military regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He also served in the same capacity during the early days of Alhaji Shehu Shagari administration.Obasanjo was an active participant in the Nigeria/Biafra цarin support of the Nigerian military effort to defeat Biafra. The civil war which occurred from 1967 to 1970 was an attempt by some states to break away from Nigeria and establish an independent Biafra state.A veteran journalist was speaking on the brewing agitation for Biafra in his part of Nigeria. He said: “General Yakubu Gowon, in one of his published interviews, spoke well when he said he was surprised that people could be talking about Biafra over 40 years after the matter had been resolved.“Owelle Rochas Okorocha, a respected governor of the people, of course, has also spoken like a patriotic Nigeria when he counselled that Igbo should stop hating other Nigerians. That comment credited to him gives a good perspective on the Igbo people of this country. Igbo people are loving people but we should talk about what unites us than talking about what divides us.“I have read a lot about the so-called agitation for Biafra and I even read something about people who said they wanted to secede from Nigeria and become Oduduwa country. Biafra and Afenifere are no threat to the unity of Nigeria. “So, as far as I am concerned, we should talk more about what unites us than what divides us. I am more concerned about the need to develop all the regions of Nigeria. I am concerned about the need for government both at federal and state levels to collaborate and bring physical development to all parts of the country. It is sad, for instance, that Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Road is not motorable.” https://www.naij.com/638055-biafra-no-threat-nigeria-died-many-years-ago.html?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C8572614864 |

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be held responsible should anything untoward happen to the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (retd). In a statement on Friday, by the Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) placement of the former NSA under house arrest despite court order that his international passport be released so that he can travel abroad for medical treatment is wicked, inhuman, dictatorial and a clear attempt to deny him of his rights to life as enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria.” The governor, who hailed today’s Abuja Federal High Court ruling, ordering the DSS to allow Dasuki to travel out of the country for medical treatment, added that, “Nigerians, especially men of the judiciary must join hands to shake dictatorship off the body of President Buhari and his hatchet man, Alhaji Lawal Daura.” Fayose said he was particularly happy that Justice Ademola Adeniyi, insisted that court order must be obeyed and that his own orders will not be flouted, pointing out that “Nigerians, who fought late General Sanni Abacha to a standstill will fight this emerging Buhari’s ‘militocracy,’ which is a clear threat to our hard-earned democracy.” The governor said he was already vindicated on his earlier position that the Director General of DSS, Lawal Daura who is President Buhari’s kinsman, was an instrument of political persecution. He likened the Director General of DSS to Mohammed Lawal Rafindadi, of the Nigerian Security Organisation (NSO) that was also used by Buhari as instrument of political persecution between 1984 and 1985. Governor Fayose said President Buhari should be reminded that the Nigeria of 1984 that he ruled like a fiefdom is different from that of 2015. https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/dasuki-dss.jpg Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.): Former NSA The governor said: “President Buhari seized late Chief Obafemi Awolowo international passport and prevented him from travelling abroad for medicare in 1985, thereby leading to his (Awolowo) untimely death of 1987. “Buhari also hounded former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha to death all in the name of fighting perceived political opponents. “Therefore, it has become necessary to raise the alarm that nothing must happen to Dasuki. “The fate that befell Awolowo in 1985 must not be allowed to befall Sambo Dasuki in 2015 and Nigerians must rise against this Buhari’s dictatorship and his instrument of oppression, Lawal Daura.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/hold-buhari-responsible-if-anything-happens-to-dasuki-fayose/ |

Senegalese authorities have made a number of arrests as part of a sweeping offensive against people suspected to have links with the extremist Boko Haram sect, which has for years wreaked havoc in Nigeria and its northern neighbours. A number of suspects were picked up in and around Dakar, the Senegalese capital, in the past two weeks as part of the Senegalese government’s drive to crack down on some suspected collaborators of the extremist sect in the Muslim-dominated West African country known for its peace and democratic culture. Two women were arrested in Guidiawaye, a suburb of Dakar, on suspicion of links to the group. Officials say the women popped up on the radar of security agencies and were afterwards placed under surveillance after authorities intercepted their communication with a suspected Boko Haram fighter in Nigeria, who was confirmed to be the husband of one suspect and brother to the other. Security forces also reported uncovering a consistent number of money transfers between the suspects and their alleged Boko Haram fighter relative for months. After their arrest, a search was conducted on their home and a cash of 500 million CFA Francs was found in their possession, authorities say. “The fact that such an amount was in their possession instead of being in the bank further goes to confirm ties with the alleged Boko Haram fighter,” a security source said. Also this month, two Imams were arrested outside Dakar. One of them was arrested in Ziguinchor, the regional headquarters ofSouthern Senegal, an area known for its over 30 years of secessionist wars with the Senegalese government. In Kaolack, another suburban city hundreds of kilometers outside Dakar, an Imam was arrested. The town is popular for being a base of the Tijanniya Brotherhood, and home of the renowned Islamic scholar, Sheik Ablaye Niass. Authorities say the Imam, Alioune Ndao, had been under security radar for months as a result of his suspected links with Boko Haram. “His sermons have been strangely inclined towards “instigating” his congregation towards BH ideologies,” the security source said. Following his arrest, two satellite phones were found in his possession. Security insiders said a scrutiny of the call histories of the phones showed consistent communications with suspected members of the Boko Haram sect. In the capital city of Dakar itself, a young man was arrested for alleged links with the terrorist group. Security operatives say their investigations revealed he was a next of kin to a confirmed Boko Haram fighter in Nigeria. “He has also been receiving a lot of money transfers from Nigeria after the death of his brother who was fighting for the group,” one of the security sources said. Investigating judge Samba Sall, who presided over a hearing of the suspects, charged with criminal conspiracy, money laundering and financing terrorism, said the arrests were made following investigations by the security forces which suggested contacts with the Boko Haram group. Besides its democratic culture in the past decades, Senegal is also known for its religious tolerance, despite the spread of various traditional Islamic brotherhoods and sects across the country. Four Islamic sects, the Qadiri, the Tijanniya, the Mouride and the Layenne dominate religious and political life in Senegal, whose population is 95 percent Muslim. A report by the Institute of Security Studies, an African think tank, in 2013 said Senegal is becoming more vulnerable to the region’s spread of extremism. The Senegalese President, Macky Sall, told a peace and security conference in Dakar on Monday that terrorists should not be allowed to “impose another form of religion” that does not “correspond to our traditions or our conceptions of Islam”. Mr. Sall told the conference that brought together about 800 security officials and analysts from across the region to the Senegalese capital to develop a coordinated response to mounting jihadist threats facing the country. He said Senegal must develop “a philosophical and theological discourse, training imams with a sense of a tolerant Islam”. Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga, African Union special envoy in the fight against terrorism, said at the conference in Dakar, “I think the main characteristic of the threat today is that this is a threat that knows no boundaries.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/193109-in-sweeping-offensive-senegal-arrests-imams-women-with-suspected-links-to-boko-haram.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon is a Nigerian of the ethnic Igbo stock, adopted by a former leader of the country during the Biafran war. This startling revelation is about to be revealed as a court in western France Thursday allowed a family member of Ali Bongo Ondimba to view the birth certificate of the leader after accusations that he lied about where he was born. With next year’s presidential elections approaching, controversy has been brewing over Ali Bongo’s place of birth with critics saying he falsified his birth certificate to hide the fact that he was adopted from another country. If the allegations prove true, it could keep him from running for another term and cost him his wealth. The court in Nantes allowed 25-year-old Onaida Maisha Bongo Ondimba, a daughter of former president Omar Bongo, to view the documents in full. Her lawyer Eric Moutet hailed the decision as “enormous”, though “diplomatically complex”. Ali Bongo is the only one of ex-president Omar Bongo’s 54 declared heirs not to have produced the identification documents. Ali Bongo assumed the presidency following the 2009 death of his father Omar Bongo, who had presided over the west African nation and its oil and mineral wealth since 1967. The Gabonese constitution says one must be born Gabonese to serve as the head of state, but French investigative journalist Pierre Pean alleged in a recent book that the president was actually Nigerian and was adopted during the Biafran war in the late 1960s. Bongo himself claims he was born in Brazzaville in 1959, former capital of French Equatorial Africa. The Nantes civil registration centre is responsible for all birth certificates of people born in French Equatorial Africa up to 1960, when the former colonial countries in the region gained independence to become Gabon, Congo, Chad and the Central African Republic. Ali Bongo announced in late August that he would give “all his share of the inheritance” from his father to “the Gabonese youth” in a speech marking the 55th anniversary of independence. http://saharareporters.com/2015/11/13/revealed-gabonese-president-ali-bongo-adopted-nigeria’s-southeast-during-biafra-war https://secure.saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/ali-bongo-ondimba.jpg?itok=XptHT99Z |

A 56-year-old man identified simply as Ekpenyong, narrowly escaped death in the hands of his two sons who were bent on lynching him for marrying another wife after the demise of their mother in 2008. According to Daily Trust, the incident happened at the family’s residence in Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday, November 8, when the two young men, Nsikak and John Ekpenyong, descended on their father because he did not seek their consent before going ahead to marry another woman. It was gathered that before then, the man had suffered a series of humiliations and assaults from his children who were not happy that he got married to a girl who is in their age range. A close family friend narrated the incident: “The insults became unbearable and the new wife who gave birth to a two-year-old baby for their father was forced to run away from the house with the baby,” a source said. The friend also added that Ekpenyong had, on several occasions, lost some huge sums of money and other valuable items to the sons as they took advantage of his absence to ransack his room. On the fateful day of the assault, the older son, a 22-year-old undergraduate, went into the father’s room as usual, with the same intention, without knowing that his father was inside. But as the father accosted the son, the other brother joined and they beat him up, almost snuffing life out of him. The man however raised an alarm which attracted neighbours when the beating was getting out of hand, who in turn alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the duo. http://www.givjoy.com/wickedness-2-sons-beat-father-almost-to-death-for-re-marrying/ |

https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03496/ROONEY_WWE_3496328b.jpg Wayne Rooney thrilled fans at the Manchester Evening Arena on Monday night with an entertaining cameo on Monday Night Raw. The Manchester United forward was in attendance at the event with son Kai, 6, when he was addressed by the Lancashire- born wrestler, Wade Barrett. "In this ring are two men who can be described as having championship material," said Barrett. "Which is more than can be said for Wayne Rooney and Manchester United." When Barrett continued to bad-mouth Rooney, the pair stood face-to-to-face before Rooney slapped the Preston North End fan to the ground. Rooney later posed for photos backstage at the event with Manchester United's assistant coach, Ryan Giggs, and former United midfielder, Darren Fletcher. There have been calls to drop the England captain after a difficult start to the season as Manchester United's main striker. Former England captain Alan Shearer has suggested that the 30-year-old is in desperate of a rest in order to reverse his slump in form. West Brom defender, Jonny Evans, has backed his former Manchester United teammate to re-find his goalscoring touch , hailing the striker as 'one of the best in the world'. “If you look at those great United players from recent years, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Wayne are definitely at the top along with Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. On his day Wayne’s probably one of the best in the world.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/players/wayne-rooney/11985576/Wayne-Rooney-slaps-WWE-star-Wade-Barrett-on-Monday-Night-Raw.html |

T he Association of Senior Civil Servants (ASCS) have called upon President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse former President Goodluck Jonathan’s illegal appointments, according to media reports. The ASCS threatened a trade union dispute if these appointments were not reversed. The group has also demanded an increase in their wages in line with the “declining value of the naira”. According to a media report, many career civil servants protested the appointment of 530 of former President Jonathan’s “aides and cronies” to the civil service in the last days of his administration. These appointees were reportedly provided senior level positions starting at the Assistant Director level. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the President of ASCS, Mr. Bobboi Bala Kaigama, criticized the current state of the Federal Civil Service. His statement noted that despite the appointment of illegal candidates, the commission dedicated to the screening of prospective employees, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FSCS), actually dissolved its own recruitment policies. The results of this weakening, according to Mr. Kaigama, was the appointment of “civil service officers...to positions without the requisite qualifications, as provided for in the scheme of service.” When speaking to Punch Newspaper Mr. Kaigama also made it known that President Buhari had been alerted to the “crisis” and the need to return “sanity” to the system. He stressed that if the issues were not addressed the ASCS would initiate a trade union challenge to President Buhari. Mr. Kaigama also touched upon the need for highers wages, pointing out that the current wages, “can no longer take us [civil servants] to the bus stop, let alone take us home.” Currently the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) have created two committees to determine the percentage increase which the civil servants should receive. Once these two organizations present their findings, Mr. Kaigama and ASCS will begin negotiations with the Federal Government. http://saharareporters.com/2015/11/05/civil-servants-call-president-buhari-reverse-jonathan’s-‘insane’-and-‘illegal’ |
Residents of Abaakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital were in panic mood yesterday, over the purported relocation of Boko Haram suspects to the state from Ekwulobia, Anambra. The Sun reports that the residents had woken up to hear news that 47 Boko Haram suspects, who had been taken from Anambra, were being deposited in their state. Residents were already planning to stage a protest. [The state governor, Dave Umahi, has, however, moved to quell the reports, claiming that there was nothing like that happening in the state. “I received a text message shortly after I returned to Abakaliki from my trip to Israel that Boko Haram suspects previously re located to Ekwulobia Prison in Anambra State have been relo cated to Abakaliki Prison. “Immediately I got the text massage, I made some calls and I can tell you authoritatively that Boko Haram suspects were not relocated to Abakaliki and there are no plans for such relocation. Ebonyi State is not yet ripe to accommodate such high caliber of prison inmates,” he said. The residents’ fears were said to have stemmed from the fact the location where the suspects will be taken to was not revealed after their relocation from Ekwulobia prisons. Although an impeccable source had conformed that the suspects had arrived at the Abakaliki prisons last night in four trucks heavily guarded by security operatives, the state police commissioner, Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, denied being aware of any such thing happening within the state. The public relations officer of Abakaliki prisons confirmed also that he was not aware of the arrival of the terrorists at the prison. According to him: “I am not aware of Boko Haram suspects being brought to the prisons. If they are on their way, I don’t know.” Meanwhile, calm has been restored to Ekwulobia community following the relocation of the 47 Boko Haram suspects from a prison facility in the area. This was contrary to heightened tension with which the residents had been living since the Islamist sect members had been incarcerated there. https://www.naij.com/623544-pandemonium-ebonyi-boko-haram-suspects-leave-anambra-prisons.html/?damilare |
Three top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu state may be jailed if they are found guilty of forgery of documents, Vanguard reports. This is following a recommendation by the federal ministry of justice’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Muhammad Saidu Diri, based on a petition to the police headquarters by Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi, representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, since July 6, 2015. In his petition, Amadi alleged that the party’s chieftains which a former member of the National Assembly benefited from, and following up from this, the police in Abuja have invited the alleged beneficiary for questioning. The Investigating Police Officer, ASP Emmanuel Mordi, in his report submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, stated: “considering the overwhelming evidence that flows from the finding of facts in this case, it is conclusive that the suspects may have committed the offence of conspiracy to wit: forgery, impersonation, altering and perjury.” While corroborating the allegations, Mr Diri, who signed the document on behalf of the Solicitor General of the Federation, said that a possible case of forgery has been established and should be prosecuted. “We have carefully perused the case file, it was discovered that the evidence available disclosed an offence of forgery which is a state offence. “I am therefore directed to request you to forward the case file to the office of the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Enugu State for prosecution,” he said. At the national level, the party has described President Muhammadu Buhari as being undemocratic following the increased state of prosecution being meted out on its members across the country over corruption allegations . The ruling All Progressives Party (APC), in a message of its own, fired back at the opposition, asking them to serve as a strong opponent or they (PDP) may become extinct. https://www.naij.com/623580-three-top-pdp-chieftains-face-jail-terms-alleged-forgery-documents.html/?damilare |
