Politics / Lagos Doctors Serve Notice On Indefinite Strike by bondingman: 11:09am On Mar 12, 2015 |
Lagos — Unless the State government shifts its ground and pays all outstanding salaries owed its doctors due to previous strikes, the public would from next Monday experience a shutdown of government hospitals. The threat to embark on an indefinite strike from March 16 was issued on Tuesday by the Guild of Doctors in a notice signed by its chairman, Dr Biyi Kufo. According to the press statement, the chairman noted that since the doctors called off the last 3-day warning strike on January 20, government had not shown "little in terms of a positive response" to their requests. He said this led to the review of the situation at a general meeting of the Guild last Wednesday and following deliberations, a 10-day grace period was given to the administration to resolve the issues. His words: "The house directed that, if resolution was not achieved at the end of this period, members of the Guild should proceed on an indefinite strike from Monday the 16th of March, 2015.The house also directed that emergency services be provided during the action", Kufo said. The chairman of the Guild pointed out that the issues in contention include: "the continued employment of doctors as casual (contract) workers; the non-employment of resident doctors in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH); and the discriminatory application of the state's 'no work, no pay' policy to members of the Medical Guild in the period between April/May 2012 and September 2014". He observed that several efforts had been made by the body of doctors through representation of the state Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and the National NMA as well as through elders of the profession to appeal to government to rescind its decision not to pay the doctors' salaries but to no avail. The chairman averred that government continues to hold the doctors hostage in order to hold the people hostage and pleaded that stakeholders wade into the issue before the expiration of the notice. http://allafrica.com/stories/201503120380.html?viewall=1 |
Politics / Re: Nigerian Elections: What If Buhari Wins? By Max Siollun by bondingman: 1:07pm On Mar 11, 2015 |
Buhari will never win an election in Nigeria, except d election entails only northern Nigeria then he can. Back to d question, what if? Its simple, reversing the development in d rail sector by cancelling contracts etc (due to kwaruption) Niger delta militants ressurects n coupled with d drop in oil prices austerity measures sets in; civil servants are relieved of their jobs a push to implement sharia nationwide; at worst in all northern states Tinubu bc richer meanwhile sensitive positions like minister of finance n Petroleum given to Fulani's who no nothing about it a move In legislature to review allocation to south-south states. Threat of seccession becomes real and military takes over due to civil disturbances and we are back to d basics! The trend wouldn't b too far from this. 1 Like 2 Shares |

This is the kind of CHANGE that will envelope the whole country should Buhari alias Tinubu be elected into power. Back in the years of the military era, civil servants were owed months of salary. Buhari alias Tinubu wants to take us back there He's already prepared the ground by saying 'I'll inherit huge debt and an empty treasury' so as to put d blame on d preceding govt should he get there. Please keep d CHANGE. 36 Likes 1 Share |
