A lecturer at University of Calabar, (UNICAL), has alleged that the commissioner of police in Cross River state has frustrated plans to arrest the powerful men behind his assassination attempt last year. The lecturer identified as Joseph Odok who is well known for criticizing the Cross River state government - was almost killed after he was attacked by some unknown hoodlums in Calabar. The lecturer has shared an update on this issue. Below is what he shared on his social media page this morning. A Magistrate Court in Abuja division has Granted Warrants of Arrest for the arrest of Chief of staff CRS Mr. Martin Orim, Attorney General of CRS Barr. Joe Abang, Prof Zana Akpagu the Vice Chancellor University of Calabar and Mr. Chris Abang The arrest warrant was granted after the accused persons refused to respond or reply letters of invitations extended to them seeking their explanation on their level of involvement in an attempted murder on me that took place on the 4th of September 2017. The police followed the invitation letters to the suspect with another letter written to the governor of Cross River State Senator Ben Ayade to release his accused aides but the governor refused to act nor reply the police. On the basis of the above facts, the police approached the court and obtained an arrest warrant for the arrest of the suspect Three police men were mobilized on Wednesday the 6th of June 2018 on the authority of the Deputy Inspector General of police Criminal Investigations and intelligence Unit Force Headquarters Area 10, Garki Abuja to execute the warrant of arrest. The police on reaching Calabar endorsed the arrest warrant in a magistrate court in Calabar Division and proceeded to the Commissioner of Police CRS to report and seek his assistance. According to report, the CP Cross River State refused their demand for additional police men to assist the police execute the arrest warrant. The CP CRS is said to have told the police to go do their best to execute the arrest . The police from Abuja are said to have began personal efforts to execute the arrest warrant before they were said to have been called by the CP Cross River State and warned not to cause break down of law and order in the state. The police who have rounded up the Chief of Staff CRS Mr. Martin Orim were said to have been summoned by CP and after Mr. Martin Orim was said to have given a statement, the CP is said to have asked for bail for the Chief of Staff with a promise to bring the suspect to Abuja when the governor resumes from his vacation. In a telephone conversation with the Commissioner of Police CRS, the CP claimed to have given full support to the team from Abuja and claimed that the Abuja team may have been compromised On reaching out to the team from Abuja, I was categorically told that the CP CRS made every effort to frustrate them. I was told by the team that the normal police practice would have been for the CP to dispatch a team of men who know the suspects and the terrain to execute the arrest warrant. The team from Abuja further alleged that their life was threatened and they are in hiding to sneak out of Calabar today because of security report from one police officer who whispered to them that some agents of CRS government were after their life. It is sad that even with a warrant of Arrest duly issued by a court of competent jurisdiction to known aides of the Cross River State Government and the Vice Chancellor University of Calabar, the police could not execute the warrant of arrest. A Nigerian deportee who just arrived from Libya has given a startling confession at T.B. Joshua’s Church in Lagos, painting an alarming picture of the death toll of African migrants seeking to illegally enter Europe. Efe Alimi, an Edo State indigene, revealed how he had participated in the mass burial of 5,300 bodies in a single day on the Libyan shore, decomposing remains of those who had drowned while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. “Most of the bodies washed up on the shore had decayed. When we picked them up, their flesh peeled away to the bone. Some were without ears, eyes or breasts. All were my African brothers and sisters,” he recollected in a shocking revelation posted to T.B. Joshua’s official Facebook Page. According to Alimi, the bodies were dumped into a mass grave, crushed by excavators and then covered by the Libyans who had picked him and a group of other migrants to do the “dirty job”. Alimi travelled to the North African nation via Niger in 2013. 29 embarked on the dangerous journey through the Sahara Desert but only 9 reached Libya. “I actually buried 20 people in the desert,”Alimi recalled, adding that he only survived by drinking urine after they were stranded for five days without food or water. After an unsuccessful attempt to cross the Mediterranean to Italy in 2017, he was imprisoned in an underground dungeon for one year before the intervention of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), who facilitated his return to Nigeria. Another deportee, Johnson Imonigie, equally shared distressing details of how the makeshift boat he was in capsized en route to Italy. 121 were on board and 87 drowned. Even prior to his attempt to cross the ocean, Johnson had been kidnapped and sold into slavery three times in Libya. During his incarceration, one of his close friends was beaten to death in his presence. “They decided to beat me on my manhood,” he vividly recalled.“I can’t even begin to describe the pain. I was there the day they hit my friend there so hard he actually died.” On Tuesday 5thJune 2018, 171 Nigerians were voluntarily deported from Libya, over 90 of them deciding to visit Joshua’s famed Church in search of aid. Hearing their plight, Joshua and his ‘Emmanuel TV Partners’ gave the group N3m ($8,500) to help them start their lives afresh in Nigeria. The news comes on the heels of the United Nations imposing sanctions on six leaders of human trafficking networks in Libya. A Nigerian man who is from a royal lineage in Benin Kingdom has revealed why a woman cannot become an Oba in their kingdom. The Benin man identified as Black Rice on social media, took time to explain the reason for law restricting women to the royal throne as he shared pictures to buttress his points. Below is what he shared online; WHY WOMAN CANNOT BECOME AN OBA IN BENIN KINGDOM... At the demise of EZOTI, Prince OKPAME was dispatched to ESI to bring home Ezoti's only son, Prince OWERE to ascend the throne of his father... Unfortunately, Prince OKPAME was suspected to have murdered Prince OWERE and his mother, who were buried alive on their way to the City. Although Prince OKPAME reported that these people died of natural causes; but the Binis held that they were untimely killed, where upon Prince OKPAME was banished and the Prince thereafter sought refuge in ORA... About 1473 AD. OLUA the Second Son of EWUARE THE GREAT refused the throne as he feared that Prince OKPAME [his brother] would kill him. The ELDER sister of OLUA my great-great grandad, Princess EDELEYO, was then persuaded to reign as OBA but while she was on her way to USELU to be invested as EDAIKEN, she found herself in the grip of her menstrual period and was therefore unable to perform all rituals which by custom must have no contamination with such conditions regarded as unclean. The Princess had to remain @ a place now called OGHE EDELEYO for some days; Unfortunately the menstrual period persisted for quite a while and this made the UZAMA [the seven king makers] and EGHAEVBO {wise ones] to decide that, NO WOMAN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO REIGN AS AN OBA IN FUTURE... However every EDAIKEN visits Princess EDELEYO'S SHRINE to perform some ceremonies on his way to USELU after his INVESTITURE... In the end, the CHIEFS persuaded OLUA to accept the Throne and thereafter he was CROWNED OBA... THE ITSEKIRI CONNECTION... On the assumption of the OBASHIP, OLUA sent his younger son OHON [my grand father] to EHOR AS ENOGIE [DUKE] to keep watch on Prince OKPAME who was threatening an attack on BENIN... IGINUWA his elder son was not popular with the people because of the bad advice he gave to the OBA his father... The OBA fearing the people will not allow his son to reign as OBA after his demise decided to found him IGINUWA A KINGDOM. Thus he became the 1st. OLU OF ODIGHI N'AMEN, THE FOUNDER OF THE ITSEKIRI KINGDOM; from where my maternal linage originates...
