There was commotion in Ibadan, Oyo state capital after the office of the South West chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde (Fele), collapsed earlier today. According to reports, the Oyo state NURTW boss was luckily to have been escaped alive along with his team after part of his office located at Olomi area of Ibadan collapsed.

Congratulations are in order for a Nigerian lady, Cynthia Chizoba Okoye who has fulfilled her dream of becoming a medical doctor following the demise of her father when she was a little girl.

The commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra state; Mark Okoye, took to social media to celebrate his younger sister as he revealed she decided to become a doctor to help prevent people from dying after their dad passed away when she was 13 years old.

Mark Okoyo posted the below online;

I remember when dad died, you were 13 years old and you promised us that you’d study medicine to help prevent other families losing their loved ones prematurely.

Difficult times you experienced while writing your MCAT, getting into Tulane University Medical School and OF COURSE, surviving your residency program at John Hopkins University, they’ve all PAID off, darling. All through hard work, persistence, the never-say-die OKOYE attitude and prayers!

Congratulations Dr. (Ms.) Cynthia Chizoba Okoye, you deserve all the accolades baby. Even greater accolades reserved for our Mother who did it ALL by herself from 1991 till date.

The 16-year-old girl, Lilian Friday who was attacked by suspected female cultists believed to be between the ages of 14 to 16 years for refusing to identify and join their cult group in Otuoke community, Ogbia, Bayelsa state - has undergone a successful plastic surgery to her right eyelids that was damaged..

Lilian, a native of Otuoke and Emeyal community in Ogbia local government area of the state, an ss1 student of community secondary school, Otuoke was said to have been attacked by a group of suspected female cultists led by one Josephine on the 26th of April, 2018 for refusing to be one of them.

When members of Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network (PACON) got wind of the incident, they visited the victim and her family on April 26th in the hospital where she was taken to unconscious after the gang left her in a pool of her own blood and with a damaged eye. PACON had promised to assist the family of Lilian with the medical bills and to initiate a public campaign for financial support for Lilian should there be need for plastic surgery.

On the 24th of June, 2018, PACON was informed through a phone call from Mrs. Igbogi Progress (Lilian's mother) that Lilian had been penciled for a surgical operation on 26th of June, 2018. The amount needed for the operation was Three hundred thousand naira (300,000.00) only at Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH).

The organization with the informed consent and approval of the parents through its social media handles appealed for financial assistance which the public responded to and on 27th of June, same year, the sum of ₦265,000.00 was donated into Mrs. Igbogi Progress, Guarantee Trust Bank account which was made public by the organization.

On the 28th of June, the parents withdrew Lilian from NDUTH due to want of medical equipment to carry out the said surgery to Ark Hospital in Yenagoa were the operation was successfully carried out for a fee of One hundred thousand naira (₦100,000.00) only.

PACON paid Lilian a visit once again in her hometown today, 1st July, 2018. Attached herewith are pictures from the visit with the second photo showing Lilian Friday after the successful surgical operation.

According to Philip Obin, the handler of the Twitter page linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a political activist, he was nearly killed in his village where he went for peace talks.

He revealed that he went for peace talks in Biase local government area of Cross River state in an attempt to settle the longing crisis but was almost killed in the process by youths who surrounded his vehicle and shot locally made guns at the vehicle forcing them to flee for their lives.

He shared the update via his twitter account. He wrote;

I narrowly escaped death today where I went for peacetalks someone in Biase LGA, Cross River, in efforts to settle the crisis in the zone (my immediate two wards) as my car was rounded by youths who rained bullets on us, blowing off my tyres & causing us to drive like James Bond...

And to the OP, Abati Tosanwunmi is an Itsekiri name,and he is not from Sapele. He might have grown up there.

Same way the alleged baby daddy of Linda Ikeji,another Itsekiri man, was attributed to be from Sapele because he grew up there.

This is not a hate speech against the Itsekiri's, but just setting the record. Because they have made an attempt before to claim a part of Sapele before.

Sapele is an Urhobo land.

Abati Emmanuel Tosanwumi, a graduate Studied Mechanical engineering from Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo state, graduated with two degrees in Applied Petroleum Engineering Degree and Power and Process Operations from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Canada.

According to reports, Abati Emmanuel who hails from Sapele area in Delta state - is the first person to graduate with two degrees at the same time in the history of the institution.

He was specially recognized by the school authorities for achieving the great feat.

A woman was apprehended after allegedly dumping her newborn and leaving the baby to die at Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri, Borno capital. It was reported that the refugee woman after giving birth, decided to throw away throw away the baby after putting him in a sack and abandoning him.

An alarm was raised by other refugees at the IDP camp who confronted the woman and forced her to retrieve the baby but it was already late. The baby had already died before being rescued.

The woman was humiliated and disgraced at the IDP camp as she was paraded with the corpse of the dead baby before being handed over to the authorities.

An explosion has just occurred following an accident between a fuel tanker and a trailer at Maje along Minna-Suleja road in Niger state.The number of casualties are yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report. Emergency officials are currently on ground to put out the flames. Motorists and commuters have been advised to delay their movements or use alternative routes due to the accident.

The accident is coming less than a day after nine people were killed and over 50 vehicles destroyed when a fuel-laden tanker exploded on the Otedola Bridge along the highway in Lagos state.

The tanker which was loaded with PMS, had a brake failure while trying to overtake a vehicle before crashing and exploding in the process.

A depressed man has decided to end his life by taking rat/insect poison in Bauchi state in an apparent suicide. According to reports, the man who had been troubled, took the poison and started to vomit white substance from his mouth few minutes later.

The man gave up the ghost before he was rushed to the hospital by his neighbors after noticing what he had done.

His corpse was later evacuated from the area and taken to an undisclosed place considering the manner he died.

Just few days ago, a man identified as Cruz Henry allegedly killed himself after he was found hanging from a ceiling in his residence in Lagos.

Following the brutal attacks on the 11 communities of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State and a protest that followed, the Special Military Task Force, code-named Operation Safe Haven, has arrested 17 suspects.

The spokesperson for the OPSH , Umar Adams, who disclosed this at a press conference in Jos, on Wednesday, said three of the suspects were arrested in connection with the attacks, while 14 others were nabbed for allegedly blocking federal highways to protest the killings by herdsmen in the state .

He stated that the three suspects (two are Fulanis while the other is from Berom tribe), who had not confessed to the crime, were apprehended at Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

He said 14 of the suspects were arrested while allegedly causing “civil unrest” by stopping passersby on the highways.

More than 100 persons were killed and about 50 houses torched during the attacks by herdsmen on Xland, Gindin Akwati, Ruku, Nghar, Kura Falls and Kakuruk all in Gashish District.

A man identified as Victor Ukuta got more than he bargained after calling soldiers to assault his neigbour after a heated quarrel in Sapele area of Delta state. It was gathered that Victor quarreled with his neighbour identified as Prince who accused him of stealing N145,000 from his house after allegedly gaining access through the ceiling.

The matter was taken to the police station where the case was settled.

After that, Victor was said to have used a rod to hit his neighbour while they were finally settling the case in their area in the presence of a chairman. Victor reportedly ran into his house and locked himself in after attacking his neighbour over fear of being beaten by Prince's boys.

According to reports, Victor was said to have called soldiers to come to his rescue and accused his neighbour of trying to attack him in his house.

When the soldiers arrived, people in the area who knew what went down including the chairman - were angry as they queried why the attacker called soldiers for his victim.

Based on that, the chairman told the soldiers to molest Victor who called them and teach him a lesson for his act of disrespect.

Victor was beaten and made to sit down on a muddy water on the road as he was given a public humiliation.

A fire tragedy in Shika area of Kaduna state has left at least three dead and others injured. According to reports, three victims were killed instantly after the fire broke out in a residential building. A mother of five and her husband were badly injured as they were rushed to the hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Two other children were said to have been caught in the fire outbreak as they were also badly burnt in the process.

Report has it that plans are underway for the the mother to undergo plastic surgery due to the level of burns she sustained.

The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 12 suspected kidnappers that have been terrorising four local government areas in the state. The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Babangida Dutsinma, made the disclosure to journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday.

He said three of the suspected kidnappers were arrested on Friday, while others were apprehended during the weekend as a result of the swift intervention of the officers of the command.

Dutsinma said the suspected kidnappers had written letters to six well-to-do men in Gidan Walo village in Tureta Local Government Area of the state demanding N12 million payment.

He explained that the kidnappers also threatened to kidnap the head of the respective families if they failed to remit the money.

According to him, the frightened families had already gathered and given N2 million to the kidnappers before the command got the information.

“The NSCDC acted promptly in collaboration with local vigilante members and arrested the suspects through intelligence.

“In fact, all the suspects have confessed to the crime along with other crimes perpetrated in various communities in Isa, Sabon-birni, Tureta, Raba Local Government Areas and neighbouring towns in Zamfara Dtate,” he said.

He disclosed that seven locally made guns, charms and other weapons were recovered from the hoodlums.
