Yesterday, two young men were apprehended by men of the Edo State Police Command and were accused of cyber crime and were taken into custody. While the police officers were unable to nail that accusation on them, they fabricated another offence of cultism just to instill great fear in them. The young boys were forced to cough out the sum of N100, 000 which was initially pegged at N200, 000 for both of them following sordid tales of how innocent citizens have been framed up by some law enforcement agents for the purpose of extortion, According to Osazee Edigin, the police officers allegedly took the boys to an ATM to withdraw the said amount. Unfortunately for the policemen, news got to Edo Civil Society Organisations and the Coordinator General, Comrade Omobude Agho and other comrades took it upon themselves in investigating the matter and doing justice to same. Just to cut a long story short, the Officer in Charge of the Unit at the State Police Command quickly responded and retrieved the money from the police officers that carried out the shameful act. Report has it that this is not the first time members of EDOCSO have recovered paid bail fees. More shocking details have emerged as regards the story of Prince Kelechi Ineke, the son of Abaomege king who died in a tragic manner while in police custody in Abaomege, Onicha L.G.A of Ebonyi state after being arrested for fighting with a police officer's son. Earlier this month, Prince Kelechi Ineke, the son of HRH Eze Gabriel Ineke a.k.a Echemugo 1 of Abaomege was reportedly arrested for fighting with Ufem Umet Ekwe, son of inspector Umet Ekwe serving in the community. It was also reported that Kelechi was arrested, detained, tortured, denied bail and starved to death by the police. The mystery surrounding his death is yet to be unraveled as a rope was found round his neck like someone who committed suicide in the police cell... According to Daily Crimes Nigeria, a youth from the community who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the police inspector and the DCO were able to carry out this heinous act because the king is very old, sick and bedridden for a long time now and has not been around in the community. "The king has been very sick for a long time, he is even in the hospital right now, you know he is very old." a community member said. According to reports, the police DCO, Eze Brendan Ikechukwu from Nsukka area of Enugu state is said to have been in contest with the late Kelechi over a girl (name withheld) from Abaomege. So when the prince was arrested, he reportedly took advantage of that to deal with his rival, the late Kelechi According to late Kelechi's friend, "This man has been disturbing us in this community, he has been going after Kelechi's girl friend and Kelechi had on several occasions pleaded with him to stay away from his girlfriend. When Kelechi was arrested he hijacked the case just to get his pound of flesh. He refused to grant him bail even to give him food. Like play like play it was four days." When one of the community youths was approached with the question, 'Why didn't the youths protest at the police station during the four days in custody before the untimely death of the prince'. He said; "we didn't see this as a case or a problem. Even Prince Nnamdi did not inform Abaomege youths because we didn't see this as case enough to inform the youths." However, Ebonyi State commissioner of police, Mr Titus Lamorde in the company of Onicha LGA Chairman , Eng. Ogbonnaya Igboke and SSA to Ebonyi state governor on security, Mr Ken Ugbala had yesterday 2nd April visited Abaomege for fact finding. Meanwhile, all the police officers involved including the inspector's son have been arrested and taken to Abakaliki, the state capital in cuffs by the commissioner of police. A team of 12 no-nonsense U.S. soldiers, led by Capt. Stephen Gouthro, trained Nigerian infantry for seven weeks in Jaji, Kaduna Nigeria. One of the American soldiers, Capt. Aaron Harris briefly revealed what they go through in Jaji. He said; "We walk over to this big pump and get our own water to flush our toilets since water happens intermittently,"It's not always a fixed system or anything like that." Harris is ordinarily a forward support company commander for the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York. But in Kaduna state, Harris uses his logistics background to support a team of 12 U.S. Army Soldiers fulfilling a six-week advise and assist mission in a remote military compound three hours north of Abuja, Nigeria's capital. "We have bed space, plenty of places to sleep," Harris said. "The food's great; we hired a local, a spouse of one of the Nigerian army soldiers. She cooks for us, provides us water. We have water, hot meals, beds, and mosquito nets. What more can you ask for?" Sgt. First Class Saul Rodriguez, is the most experienced of the 12 U.S. Army Soldiers in the remote military compound manufactured to produce the country's intrepid infantry recruits. "My job is to train you as much as I can. Your job is to fight the bad guys out of your country," Rodriguez shouted to a group of Soldiers demonstrating their best cover and concealment efforts behind's Jaji's bushes and trees. "Yes. We are hard on them. We have to be. Their life depends on it," Staff Sgt. Kevin Martin of the 10th Mountain Division explained after lecturing the 26th on the significance of maintaining noise discipline. "They might need these skills one day. They face a very real and lethal threat. We aren't going to slow down, we are going to pack as much training in as possible." A small support team traveled to Jaji about four weeks into the mission, flying down from U.S. Army Africa's headquarters in Italy. The travelers asked Captain Gouthro if the team had any requests. Historically speaking, soldiers ask for candy, SIM cards or extra soap. Not this team. Gouthro's priority remained the mission. He asked for a sizeable knife for a graduation gift to give the Nigerian company's commander and some smokeless tobacco for one of his NCOs.
