Visa application or application for admission?

September is just three months away, so by now you should have gotten admission and already prepared to submit visa application.

Please I need advice.

I want to move to Ireland for masters with the goal of getting PR after my studies. I discovered that my current profession(Quantity Surveying) and intended course of study (Construction project management) are in the critical skill occupation list, which would increase my chances of getting PR, hence my reason for choosing the country. Please I need clarification on the following

1) The possibility of getting a job as a student. Are there jobs to help offset bills as a student?

2) The possibility of getting a job during/after studies as either a Quantity Surveyor/ Construction Manager/ Project manager (Construction)

3) I want to apply to South East Technological University (Waterford) by next week latest. Is the school recommendable? what is their admission rate, and timeline for processing admission? ( I would like to reach out to anybody studying there)

4) The timeline for Visa approval. My program starts this September.

Thanks in anticipation of your kind response(s).
Go for it. With your Nigerian job experience you can get a job after your programme in that field. Don’t let anything limit you. You just have to be strategic and apply to as many job opportunities as possible, before the end of your programme.

All the best.

You get, I'm still in Nigeria but I'm pissed off already, why are they soft on asylum seekers and tough on legal migrants huh huh huh
It's sickening 😔
It’s normal to feel so if you have been watching or reading too many feeds about Ireland immigration, most especially if you’re outside Ireland. But I encourage you to get your genuine visa that can guarantee you settlement in the future, and come. It isn’t like how we read or watch it outside Ireland.

Regards.

Government of Ireland instead of tackling the housing issue they are allowing asylum seekers and still give them the little houses available
I agree with you that the government needs to tackle housing issue. But if you follow news recently there is 50% drop in asylum application, an increase in deportation order and refusal of asylum applications. So it’s fair to say the government is doing something about illegal immigration. Still, there is tightening of immigration to Ireland, maybe not just like the UK.

The governments of UK and Ireland are getting it wrong, they are tightening legal immigration routes but they let their boarders open for illegal immigrants to come in everyday from France grin grin grin

Instead of them to allow us that have chosen the legal routes, they're busy romancing and taking care of illegal immigrants, no wahala shaa.
Hi,

I know the UK released a white paper to tackle immigration yesterday, but I didn’t read any thing about the government of Ireland releasing a note to tackle “legal migration”. I’m sorry, but please can you point me to it?

Thanks

Is your husband applying from Ireland? If he is, he needs to use a lot of the job ad sites and continue to send applications, while hoping for success.

If he’s outside Ireland and applying for finance roles, that will be very difficult, honestly. Because they would have to prove they can’t find anyone in EU before recruiting a non-EU citizen. Specialized IT professionals and medical doctors have more advantage. But he should continue to apply.

Has anyone been able to change visa category after application and documents have been submitted? Someone just asked me if it’s possible by sending an email to Abuja embassy stating the mistake and correction, because while completing the application form that there was an oversight and they couldn’t see that category on the dropdown menu.

Thanks for the information. Is there any other location one can get a cheaper accommodation. Also, any suggestion on the platform to use for hunting for accommodation
You can get cheaper accommodation outside Dublin. But if you’re single you can get a bed room in a shared apartment. To search for apartment you can check www.daft.ie.

Send me a PM I can share with you link to Dublin house search WhatsApp group. It’s Nigeria WhatsApp to advertise and search for house share.

Have you gotten your visa yet?

I think dbs is in D2, please for someone applying for dbs, Dublin Business School, is it advisable to look for accommodation in south of Dublin considering distance.
DBS is around the city centre, you can get any bus in Dublin to city centre, and take a walk to DBS. But most people prefer to live around south Dublin, although rent can be expensive.

If you’re coming new and don’t have option, you can get somewhere even in north Dublin to at least settle in. Honestly getting an apartment can be difficult.

I saw in different places, but I just want to get someone to share with before we can now choose one and go ahead with the agent.
Getting someone to share shouldn’t be an issue. Housing a Dublin is indeed tough and expensive. Also you need look at where in Dublin you would like to live- south or north Dublin. Most people prefer the south Dublin, although some areas in south Dublin are very expensive.

There is a housing group for people in Dublin, I can send you the WhatsApp link. If from Nigeria and you’re able to secure an appointment to view an apartment in Dublin, I would say you’re lucky.

Again, getting someone to share a two bedroom en-suite apartment shouldn’t be an issue depending on the area of Dublin and cost.

Let me know if you’ve secured a viewing appointment in Dublin, most especially south Dublin. I would advise you to narrow your search if you want to live in south Dublin to D14,16,18,22,24. Except you have enough money, you can look around D2,4,6,8.

I got critical skill employment but I applied for my visa in London and it was straightforward without stress, so it will be a bit different since you’re applying from Nigeria.

But I know someone who applied for Ireland visa recently in Lagos, you need to coloured photocopy all pages of your passports and all your other documents.

Good day All,

Please I would like to know if anyone here has applied for Ireland work visa from UK recently? How long did it take? From the website it says 15 working days but my application is now going to 20 working days?

Anyone with info, please?

Thanks.
Thanks All.

My passport was returned yesterday with visa stamped. Although I sent my application to London visa office, but I did not include my original UK resident permit in my document, hence the delay. I sent the office an email inquiring application update, and they said I should have included my original resident permit.

So I would advice that you send email to the visa office you applied to get an update about your application if the processing time has elapsed.

Cheers.

Good day Elders,

Please I have a question, I know this may not be the right thread to ask this but I need to know if anyone had experience about this:

I’m on PSW but I got a job offer in Dublin with critical skills work permit which is applied by the employer. Please I need to know if I still need to apply for an entry visa to Ireland from UK since I have a work permit.

Thanks.

Hello guys,

Please I have a question as I couldn’t find a thread for general enquiries.

I live in the UK and I have received a job offer in Ireland, and the employer said they have applied for Critical Skilled work permit. I just want to know if anyone has recently applied for entry visa to Ireland from the UK and how long did it take for the entry visa to be approved? What documents are required and if I would need a copy of the work permit to apply for entry visa since I have employment letter. Also can the entry visa application be fast tracked?

Thanks all.

It will be nice to stop playing the blame game once and take responsibility for your decisions.

Abroad is not a joke.

Do you think it's easy to pay over 800,000 Naira for rent per month?! This is what ai normally ask people looking to Japan and their reply will always be when they get to that bridge they will cross it.

When they finally get to that bridge they will be looking for who to put the blame on. I guess you can blame it on Akon *pun intended*

People are doing more than one job to survive and one wants to use 20 hours of work to pay the balance of tuition fees and living expenses.

Well, what God can't do doesn't exist. Have Faith no mountain is insurmountable.
Thanks for your input. But no where in my post was it stated that “I” was misled by a travel agent. I only said what I observed about most people who came through undergraduate study and didn’t do proper research.

I have completed my University, and now on PSW, my post was an advice to those who intend to study in the Uk.

Thanks.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by boneruns(m): 5:29am On May 31, 2024
Guys, ensure you have 50-70% of your tuition ready to be paid before you leave Nigeria if you’re going for Masters in the Uk. No jokes, it’s not funny now.

While for undergraduate, get the complete one year deposit in full before you leave Nigeria. It’s not exaggeration, it’s not funny at all. Don’t get that hope you will pay your balance while working here.

If I knew what I know now, I might have considered other countries for my postgraduate study. The uncertainty surrounding Uk student-PSW/CoS-ILR isn’t a joke.

Ensure you plan very well. A lot of people were misled by their Agents, they got here and became stuck.

Finally, if you can, consider other countries in Europe.

Good day,

I am planning to start this process. I checked the first page for any guide but I couldn’t find any.

Please is there like a guide to lead me through the process? Also using an attorney would it fast track the process? I have MSc in the UK with 8 years experience in cybersecurity. Although I had evaluated my previous MSc in Nigeria using WES for Canada IRCC- can I still use it for US?

I just need a guide to start the process or is it advisable to use an attorney?

As for publication, is it mandatory? If so, can I use my MSc dissertation?

Thank you.

Please what’s actually the cause of delay in approval of some PSW visas? I applied since 29 December but no response yet, whereas some who applied early January received?

Although it’s still with the 8 weeks period, but I’m just concerned. I thought it’s on first-come, first-served basis.

Thanks.

Don't be depressed o. Applications are free and your eyes should be on what you want with the belief that you only need one YES, only One.

I think while in the UK, one should try to get some internship experience which can be added to the cv. I believe it qualifies as "UK experience"

Thing is, those guys came from Naija with experience already. Guy at Lloyds worked freelance DevOps roles, last role was at Andela and he did a bit of Azure Identity when we worked together so he got a DevSec ops role here. None of them were asked for security clearance

Rejections are part of the game. You'll get used to it and also learn from it. Several others applied for the NHS role too but didn't even smell interview, you can build on that

The first interview I got was at Starling, IAM Analyst. Got rejected cos I wasn't too prepared but I used the knowledge gained during the 2nd interview... So it gets better once you patch up the areas you aren't so good at

Better dey come. You'll still come and do giveaway here grin

Ma fo wink
Thanks bro for the encouragement.

A topic was opened for debate for everyone owing to new rules and you just had to let this snide remark jump out. I have noticed this is also common among Nigerians in the UK Twitter (NIUK) community.

If people stop sharing their experiences, it's the same Nigerians like you who will say the Indians don't do this or that. The purpose of sharing on this platform is so people can have more information and know that some things are POSSIBLE and can be done, which is why I always preach upskilling and trying to do better (if circumstances allow it as everyone has different responsibilities).

Is it bad if Nigerians occupy top positions like the Indians?? Is it bad if we try to encourage each other to go for top positions? If you go interview and see 2 Nigerians on the panel at a top multinational, is it bad?? The purpose of sharing things is not to engage in a dick measuring contest, it's a way for people to know that things are not out of our reach if we aim higher and put in the work

Believe what you believe or not, people earn really, really well in this same UK we shout they're stingy with salaries. I lost a £44K offer (not a high salary but not bad per UK standards) last month to someone who was able to start immediately. It was a Security Analyst role at RCA and they were ready to offer sponsorship without thinking twice. Funny enough, the IT Manager was a Nigerian lady.
I just got back from a 2nd stage interview 1 hr ago and its a similar position, offering something similar

Spent about 1 hour on the phone with a friend of mine who got a job at one of the largest insurance companies in the world last week, total package, about £100,000 (Attached). Same guy still has an interview with Manchester United this week.

Another one got an offer with Lloyds Register; both of them aren't even 4 months old in the UK. These are not people I have heard of; they are close friends, so IT CAN BE DONE.

Again, It can be done smiley
I agree with you completely that Nigerians should aim high, and I am sure we have couple of Nigerians in the U.K. manning big positions and earning real high. I have an acquaintance who worked in same industry in Nigeria, working in one of the American software development firms in the U.K. and he earns over 60k, so I can relate very well with you.

But permit me to ask, are these friends of yours in cybersecurity? If so, were security clearance required for these positions they got, since they have been in the U.K. few months and SC requires 5 years of living in the U.K.

Sometimes I get depressed about the professional job search stuff. Rejections left, right and centre when they hear one is with a student visa. I recently attended an interview for a Band 6 cybersecurity role in NHS, got a call from the HR that I scored high in the ranking, but they have to consider an insider within NHS who applied for same role, but they can keep me on hold and let me know when something comes up, if I will be interested. I begin say Wetin send this guy apply for this particular role.

I just believe something will come up soon hopefully.

So just to ask the experienced professionals here, can one include in an CV unrelated work experience gained the U.K. while as a student to cover for employment gap? I’m asking because of U.K. experience stuff. I work in retail sector and I can somehow relate what I do to cybersecurity during interviews, but I just do not know if it fits into a CV.

Thanks.
