Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his wife, Bolanle, were present at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Gbagada, Lagos, for a special church service to mark Nigeria’s 58th independence anniversary on Sunday, October 7.

The vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was also in attendance. .

Members of the diplomatic corps, corporate chief executives, the military, top civil servants and other distinguished Nigerians from all walks of life also attended the service.

A mass choir ministered to the huge congregation of about 40,000 people. The church service also highlighted a rare assembly of Nigerians born on October 1, 1960.

PDP Convention: ‘Bidding’ opens as Saraki doles out $1,000 per delegate

Senate President Bukola Saraki has reportedly started paying money to delegates at the Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention, marking perhaps the first move in an expected flurry of payouts which aspirants are keen on raining on delegates to win support for the presidential nomination.

Mr Saraki paid out $1,000 per delegate at about noon on Saturday, hours before voting opens in the convention, PREMIUM TIMES learnt from delegates, including those who received the largesse.

“We have received our first goodwill from the Senate President Bukola Saraki,” a delegate from Nasarawa State told PREMIUM TIMES. “It is our first dollars here, but we know more would still come from other aspirants, they have been calling us since yesterday.”

A spokesperson for the Saraki campaign did not immediately return calls for comments. But two sources in his campaign who were amongst those who coordinated the payout stashed in campaign paraphernalia have corroborated the claim to PREMIUM TIMES.

The top lawmaker is perhaps the first to pay out cash to influence the choice of delegates. At least 4,000 delegates are expected to vote for 12 aspirants when the exercise commences at this stadium in a few hours’ time.

It is still early in the day, as politician insiders tell PREMIUM TIMES that the payout would rise as voting kick off.


“Do not be surprised if they hike the rate to $4,000, this is not your average convention,” a source attached with the campaign of one of the top-four contenders told PREMIUM TIMES

A serving corp member in Rivers state, Success Ochulor, is lucky to be alive after being involved in a ghastly motor accident on her way to Aba, Abia state. She revealed that even the driver broke the window and fled for his life, leaving her to her fate as the vehicle caught fire and burnt parts of her body including her buttocks.

Read her story as she shared on Facebook earlier today. 

Let me bore you a bit with my long post. Sit down and read what no man did except God. I'm a serving Corper in Rivers State. After my vouching on 3rd about 3:30pm, I was supposed to go back to Oproama, the Island where I serve but there was heavy downpour and all of that, the boat captain refused to cruise. I had so many things to do that same day, needed to Aba to get a report and since this captain guy was wasting time, I decided to board to Aba.

Getting to Eleme, the crowd waiting to board to Aba was so much. Now, because I was on my complete Corper's uniform, a private car decided to give me a lift up until oyigbo. It was so easy getting a bus  to Aba. The crowd wasn't much this time but the persons available rushed to the bus and someone got me a seat in the front row because I couldn't rush to get into the bus. Maybe he did that for me, because he saw me on my uniform. I was sitting exactly after the drivers seat.

Our trip started and it was just few minutes to 7pm. I was so happy that I got a bus finally without so much hassle. Just before we approached NEPA before flyover in Abia state. Our driver seems not to see the sienna coming towards him and in the quest to dodge the sienna car, he didn't see the gallop before him and boom....... Our driver hit the Mack heavy duty vehicle packed somewhere. A-ha!. It went right inside the Mack and our bus was stuck inside and I was just beside, in front of the vehicle. I couldn't move my legs as I was struggling with my legs. Fire started right under my buttocks and Goooooooooooooooooodddddddd, I was screaming  � and shouting and shouting.

The fire  was still burning up on me.. I was shouting, I couldn't move my legs. I saw myself dying in a stuck bus. I heard people breaking the windows from behind, people breaking the doors of the vehicle. A-ha, God, the pains,the fire, I saw death right before my eyes. But in a twinkle of an eye, as the driver broke through the window and escape through the window and my legs still stuck, I didn't know how, but somehow, I can't explain up till this moment, my eyes moved and I escaped through the window and the fire was still burning me up, I was running and people around shouted that I was fall into the water there. The water with all these blue green algae, Dear God!

The fire stopped. And the real pain started. I removed my khaki trouser on the road because it was so hot. I realised I couldn't move. My buttocks down to my legs has been burnt. I tried to walk a bit, I couldn't. Ahaa. My tears has been dried and I don't have anymore tears to shed.

I asked people around to help me to look for my ID card, ATM, money, Phones inside the black purse I had they told me the bus has been razed down and everything has been burnt. I couldn't cry at least, I'm alive right?. A woman gave me her wrapper to tie as my clothes were burnt.

A good Samaritan moved me to a hospital with his car to the hospital to the center city. My friends came around and today I'm alive. I can talk, I can blink, I can laugh. I can say anything I want to say.

I didn't die. The fire didn't consume me. My Bible told me that "even though I walk through the shadow of death, I fear no evil ". Even though, I'm hospitalised with so much pains, my body swollen up, 16 -hour drip, about 14 injections  �, been lying face down for over 48hours and still counting, can't turn sideways, can't stand, . Yet, I didn't die. I can't die. No. I can't die sorrowfully. I have a covenant with God that no harm shall come near me.

This God is too Good. If you see anyone, tell him or her that only Jesus can do this. And He did it for Success Ochulor.

The first question that pumped out of Mama Nkechi's mouth was, "where you follow?" Another question followed in quick succession from another neighbour, "who you see for outside"? Then another question, "you no know wetin dey happen for outside"? At this point I was surprised and didn't know which to answer first. Then my gut told me all wasn't OK. I asked them, 'wetin dey happen'? They didn't answer. At this point I left them at the tunnel to continue their meeting while I dashed to my apartment.

While inside, I was restless and deep in thought as to what could have happened that would warrant such an assemblage of my neighbours at that unholy hour. Being a phone addict, I reached out to my phone and quickly forgot the scenes that has played outside.

The next day being Sunday, I woke up a bit early and rushed down to my barber's shop to have my beard shaven since I couldn't move out previous night after the suspense my neighbours threw up. I met the shop locked which is the usual thing as he doesn't opened on Sunday morning. I rushed to his house, which is a stone thrown from his shop to call him. He obliged me and followed me to the shop.

While he was doing what I went there for, I told him why I couldn't come the previous day as has been the custom, which was Saturday to have my beard shaven, it was at this point he told me someone was shot in my locality that same Saturday. He tried all he could to describe the guy and his house. The description had little or no impact because the more he was trying to describe him and his place, the more I was confused. After a nice shave, I paid him and hurried down to the church even though I got to the church a little behind schedule.

Faster forward to Tuesday, 2nd October, I went to do some repair work at my place of residence, when I was almost done, one of my neighbours pleaded with me to help with hers. After I had promised to help her, she opened her mouth and told me what really transpired on the Saturday. She told me how some ferocious looking dudes storm the house, while some surrounded the house, others headed straight to my room, in search of the occupant of the apartment.

The guy who packed out of my present apartment before I parked in is a notorious cultist, who is well known for his heinous acts in that neighbourhood. On that faithful Saturday that they were engaged in their usual battle for supremacy, the rival cult group came to my apartment to look for him, oblivious of the fact that he has packed out some months back. They stayed for some time and waited for the occupant to come back from wherever he went to. This was the time I was in my shop doing things that ordinarily were not useful to me, but God used those things to keep me back in other not to fall for the claws of death.
My saving grace on that fateful day was that I was not in the house. They probably would have shot me dead before realizing it's a case of mistaken identity.

God spared my life from death.

May his name be glorified forever and ever...

I am very happy with the way Gov Amosun has been dealt with by the APC NWC. After spending 8 years in the saddle as governor, he imposed himself as the senatorial candidate for Ogun central . He imposed the other two senatorial candidates. He single handedly chose all the House of representatives and state house of assembly candidates. Is he the only person in the party, that is greediness of the highest order. Kudos to the combination of VP Osinbajo and Asiwaju Tinubu. Amosun will now know that Oga na master. He has no choice than to remain in the party and work for the success of the party's candidate. Amosun is an ingrate, it was Dapo Abiodun his friend that took him to Asiwaju Tinubu in Bourdillion in 2010
before he became the party's governorship candidate and went on to win the election with the support of this same Dapo Abiodun.

B2b from your comment i can sense you are from Delta or you have a relative there..Well the thing is this;Great Ogburu has the wealth and popularity to oust Okowa and beside PDP don't have the federal mercenaries on their side anymore to do the normal magic..Though i am from Anioma ,but i am more of Ogburu than Okowa .

Sharing photos of the lovely couple by a Facebook user identified as Akulo Sam’s Ochens, he wrote: “Age is just a number. 19yrs old boy got married to a 39yrs old lady. love is beautiful. Cong’s.”

The groom dressed in the popular white Arabian attire and the bride rocking a peach coloured lacey wedding dress for their wedding.
