I remember an eve of gubernatorial election in oyo when tinubu payed his trump card on makinde after trying all other means to stop him, including sending thugs to threaten him and bribing alaafin molete's followers to stop him instead, the 25m naira he gave them set them apart. A 35-year-old man, Mr. Kingsley Igwe from Nise in Awka South local government area of Anambra State has reportedly stabbed his wife to death with kitchen knife.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred at about 4am today.

According to him, the suspect allegedly ran amok and descended on his wife, adding that there was also the suspicion that he acted under the influence of drugs.

He said: “At about 4am on Thursday, police operatives attached to 3-3 Police Station arrested one Kingsley Igwe, 35, of Nise in Awka South LGA, but resident at Dueze Street, Otigba in 3-3 Area of Anambra State.

“The suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, Oyinye Obi, 31, with a kitchen knife and inflicted multiple injuries all over her body.

“The police detectives visited the scene and rushed the victim to Apex Hospital for medical attention, but was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

”The victim’s corpse had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy, while the knife used in perpetrating the act was recovered and registered as exhibit.”

Haruna said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Monday Kuryas had directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka, for a discreet investigation.

Retirees in Anambra State have threatened to embark on hunger strike over unpaid gratuities.

The state chairman of the pensioners, Anthony Ugozor, disclosed this to our correspondent in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Sunday.

While stating that the state government was owing pensioners in the state four years arrears of gratuities, Ugozor said the retirees would hold a meeting early next year to take a decision on the matter.

He said, “We don’t know what to do on this again. You know you are longer in active service, so government is treating our matter with levity because it knows we can no longer embark on industrial dispute.

“We may consider hunger strike after our meeting. The only problem we may have about hunger strike is whether it will not be detrimental to our health at our age. But members will decide that in our meeting.

“I got my December pension before Christmas. We thank Governor Willie Obiano for that; he pays pension regularly, but pension is not all that the pensioners need. We are dying in piecemeal, the governor should pay us our gratuities.”

He said since 2017, the state government had not paid any retiree in the state gratuity.

No fewer than four houses have been reportedly destroyed in Nawfia community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State following crisis allegedly instigated by certain influential members of the community.

People of the community have called on the state governor, Willie Obiano and commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang to investigate the crisis to ensure appropriate punishment were metted on the pepetrators.

A member of the community, Chibuzor Onwujekwe, whose house was invaded, alleged that the destruction was carried out by some youths in the village who were being sponsored.

He said, “The invaders planned to kill me, but I was lucky to be away that fateful day. They destroyed my house totally and looted everything in it.

“Since then, I have been moving from one hotel to the other. I am not the only one affected, there are other indigenes, whose houses were also destroyed.”

Counsel to the community, Barr Mike Ikegbunam, in a ‘Save Our Soul Message’, petitioned Governor Willie Obiano; Police commissioner and others to intervene in the crisis.

In the petition made available to our correspondent, Ikegbunam listed Chibuzor Onwujekwe, Ogochukwu Okonkwo, Dinobi Chukwuebuka and Chief Gabriel Okonkwo as some of those whose houses were destroyed in the crisis.

He alleged that the President General community, Mr Nathan Enemuo was among those behind the crisis.

He said, “The problem started on October 18, 2020 when armed bandits mobilized and led by the duo (Nathan Enemuo and BIE Nwofor) stormed Chief Gabriel Okonkwo’s house with assorted weapons, and right in the presence of everyone, they beat him mercilessly with a view to killing him.

“They beat him until he fainted, and believing him to be dead, they now swooped upon his house and destroyed every valuable in it. In view of this ugly incident, we are calling on you (Governor Obiano) to as a matter of urgency investigate Nawfia Town Union led by Nathan Enemuo and his cohorts.

“We demand for the suspension of the illegal group referred to as taskforce, being used by the town union to rain terror on the people.

Reacting, President General of the community, Mr Nathan Enemuo denied intimidating the people with any village militia.

Enemuo who declined further comment on the matter, claiming to have been advised by his lawyer not to speak, however admitted having a running battle with Chief Okonkwo, who he said was bent on tarnishing his image.

Eight members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from Ebonyi State have been arrested for burning public structures in Koka junction area of Asaba, Delta State capital during the #EndSARS protest in October.

Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters in Asaba on Thursday, the Police Commissioner, Hafiz Inuwa, said the suspects who resided in Koka disguised themselves as #EndSARS protesters before setting the structures ablaze.

The commissioner named the suspects as 18-year-old Igwe Tobechukwu, 20-year-old Chidera Chukwu, 20-year-old Chukuebuka Aweke, 22-year-old Emmanuel Arigon, 20-year-old Chidoke Nwankwo, 20-year-old Obima Ebuka, 20-year-old Nwafor Joshua and 20-year-old Esther Chukwu, the only female.

Properties burnt by the IPOB members, the police boss said, include the high court buildings along Ibusa road, the recreation park and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and other public facilities.

According to him, a tricycle belonging to one of the suspects which was used in conveying used tyres and petrol to the scene, a Nokia mobile phone taken from a victim have long been recovered, adding that efforts were being made to arrest other gangsters still at large.

In a similar vein, one Lucky Felix of Mile 5 in Asaba who confessed his involvement in the burning of Akwofor police post, the high court complex, and other atrocities during the #EndSARS protests.

The commissioner of police said Felix was arrested while a gun and two cartridges stolen from the high court store with the court exhibit registration number still on them were recovered.

The commissioner disclosed that three suspects including one Lucky Ebhonun Godstime who sold his four-year-old son to one Ebere Frank alias Chairlady at Agbor last year for the sum of N300,000 has also been arrested.

The buyer was said to have re-sold the child to one Stella Ifeoma Adiegwu in Onitsha, Anambra State for N750,000.

The boy, Daniel now 5 years old has been recovered and taken to an orphanage for care and custody.

He added that one Joseph Afia of Mereje Community was arrested with a sack containing suspected dry human skull and bones at Egborode in Okpe council area of the state.

On interrogation, Inuwa explained that the suspect confessed that he exhumed the human parts from a cemetery.

During the period of review since June 2020, Inuwa said kidnapped cases were 12, armed robbery 27, cultists 25, while arson and child stealing recorded are 8 and 9 respectively.

Seven AK47 rifles were recovered from criminals during the period.
