rosebowl01: No actually, the nation cannot progress for the simple reasons; people with low intelligence like yourself. People whose fear and inability to stand up for themselves beclouds their actions and judgments. Go back and read what the ‘Ruga’ program entails. This time slowly at your level of comprehension. After that, come back and have a decent conversion. Quite unfortunate that i engage myself with you but with your expressions, i can easily decode where you are from. You are actually from the part where ego is famous, norm and pride, its even a culture. Rest assured the reason you are always treated as 'Marginals' when it comes to national issues. rosebowl01: You seem like such a kindhearted albeit very naive guy. Care to explain how these supposedly primitive bush babies came out of the bushes, then killed all Hausa kings and took over their kingdoms. Same fate befell all other minorities areas, Ilorin, Adamawa... except Kanuri etc? Can't you tell that they have a grand plan that is even more advanced and long-term than yours? Yes, they operate a caste system in their society, whereby some of them are extremely poor and roaming around the bushes with cows, while others control nations around west and central Africa. But you have to understand that their relationship (the poor vs the privileged Fulani) is symbiotic and (you are and will never be a part of it) - the poor adopt a friendly and non-threatening posture> then occupy a small portion of the local's land>with population growth, they demand for more space using any means, including religious coercion and/or violence (Dan Fodio, Alimi etc) >eventually they lunch a full scale attack at the order of the privileged among them > then the inevitable takeover... It's not hard to understand that that is their intention for ruga. They've been hoping and waiting for this for such a long time, otherwise, why fight for a small land when you've conquered and are ruling a much bigger land? If your cattle must graze in the tropics, how then does the Fulani cattle survive in Mali and Mauritania, Chad etc? How many times must this event be replayed for you people to understand their ultimate aim, and your fate? Why must you adopt the host/helper/mother Theresa position in any dealings with people that do not even pretend to care or give a damn about your fake niceness, and will kill you if you don't yield to their demands? Why must you be the one that must "bring them out of the bush" when they have the rich among them that are far better off and more powerful than your own people? You dey fear as usual? Not surprising! Quite unfortunate that things are not done the right way in this part of the world but notwithstanding problems ought to be solved. I think its very important to know that you don't solve problem by avoiding it. You are scared of the terror the Fulanis can unleash on you through the herdsmen. You are also scared of them taking your land if you allow them to establish themselves within your community through the proposed Government policy, well, your fear is quite understandable and logical. But for your information, you cant continue to live in the fear of some unknown people in the bush, rather, you confront them and solve the problems once and for all (meanwhile, approach matters a lot). To start with, detect the problem first without speculations nor prejudice. Now, what is the problem here? The problem is that a set of people (Marauders / some Fulani Herdsmen) have been disoriented of 'good living' by some more privileged 'disoriented' set of people (I tag them Privileged Fulanis here) either through religious sentiments or tribal bigotry. The cause is the kind of mindset or the way of life this set of people allow themselves to live which has formed parts and parcel of them over the years. In fact with the aid of continuous brainwashing doctrines and teachings influenced by the latter, based on their selfish agenda (note: both egoistic and financial motive), they eventually turn the crooked principles to culture and even tradition. As a result of this, the people (other Nigerians, most especially directly affected ones) they coexist with in the same entity called Nigeria with the so called 'Disorientation' have so much endured the cause over the years and have eventually reached the climax of it; by indication, it is safe to state that the effect of the problem that exhausted the logical reasoning spent by other Nigerians, has metamorphosed into what i can describe as 'Irrevocable Resolution of Dissolution', the current mindset of the Other Nigerians. Alas, the real problem! The recommended solution/approach should be: 1. Dialogue: The dialogue should happen among and within the concerned which should be or has been happening lately; this must be coordinated actively by the administrative authority (Govt). 2. Approach: After a wide consultation and resolutions among the stakeholders, a policy or system must be put in place so as to oversee effective functionality of the controversial subject matter, the platform at which conflicts take place (cattle rearing) and drastically eliminate the aftermath effect of the conflicts, which range from economic shortfalls to loss of lives and other values. 3. Obstacles: The challenges faced in the process of resolution are: Lack of Trust due to historical scar, Un-forgiveness and most importantly, Improper Implementation and channeling. Conclusively, from all indications, any reasonable person will know that the so called Privileged Fulanis are not ready to relinquish their evil agenda, so, it will be so stupid of any (right thinking) person to assume that they will resolve the conflicts easily when they know that they gain more in the squabble. It is also stupid to think that they will bring back those guys in the bush voluntarily; baba, it wont happen, except you just want to forget those poor guys there. Just imagine a 8 year kid in your head or better still, go and check one out if you have around you there; now place him in the wilderness both day and night following and guiding only cows, what do you think will be the mentality of such kids. Note the bad things they do; they (age range of 8 and above) smoke indian hemp (freely), they move and attack with weapons, they have the notion that everyone hates them and dont want to see them, they feel detached and isolated, they battle for their lives everyday in the midst of dangerous wild animals, they dont care for anybody because nobody cares for them, lots to mention bro, you need to research on them. That being mentioned, it is high time the Other Nigerians see the reason to make demand of the kind of solution they want and stop protesting against the odds. Let us think of the most ideal and effective solution to this problem instead of allowing the few ones that are benefiting from the unfortunate incidence (politically, economically or otherwise) to continue taking advantage of our illogical doggedness based on preconceived opinions. Last shot, this is supposed to be directed to the 'Power that Be' of the day, whatever approach, policy or system engaged, sincerity and implementation should be in the first order. |

That is insult upon injury - to say the least! And by the way, any genuine RUGA should have windows for all tribes, if state funds are to be applied. I want to believe that cow or cattje rearing has been an open business to every interested person and I don't think it has been limited or restricted to a particular tribe or region. Its only that it is easily associated with and popular among a people, the Fulani's. And I don't think it is in-scripted in any part of this newly proposed policy, RUGA that it's only the herdsman in the bush or Fulani people will be entitled to the benefits therein. If that is clear , then we can go further to state that, if we have the conviction that an approach or policy is credible to sort economic issue of a citizenry and as well born peace within same society, I am of the opinion that such policy is worthy of giving a try. PrecisionFx: Herdsman, government should not use state funds to provide land, water n structures for a private business for a tribe in nigeria.
If any Herdsman wants a ranch, they should meet the villages n discuss with them and then most importantly pay for land or rent land like every other Nigerians I now understand you are so engrossed amd keen of the business aspect of it than the survival of even the subjects involved, human lives. Things you need to know in that regards as follow: Number 1, you need to stop seeing the legal Nigerian Fulani's as foreigners. Number 2, govt has the right to create an enabling environment for any business to thrive in the land. 3, govt can promote group or individual business of it's citizen 4, govt has right to partner with groups or individuals to achieve a business goal and promote the national economy through same. So, now tell me the one that RUGA has trampled among all these... |

shineeye1: Your good points are noteworthy. Nevertheless you insensitively ignored or undermined the reasons behind the widespread repugnance of RUGA. It is common widespread knowledge that the uncultured normads have interacted very poorly and badly with their host communities wherever they go. Their pompous incivility has escalated conflicts wherever they go. They trespass and violate and plunder properties of accommodating indigenes with reckless impunity as they go. For all these, you expect them to be welcomed? You must be sick to think so. If these herdsmen had a track record of peaceful coexistence with their host communities, the RUGA concept on a national scale would not have been so obnoxious. Are you going to hurt a child and same time grudge him for crying out? It takes insanity for anyone to do so! Under the present circumstance of widespread disaffection between herders and host communities therefore, the RUGA idea , laudable as it is, should , sensibly, be restricted initially to the core northern Nigeria. As hostilities fade off, there would naturally be expansion of scope. Odisweet: their past record indicates that they forcefully enter people's farmland, destroy the farm produce, rape and kill the owners. sometimes they just enter houses to massacre owners and flee back into the bushes. how do you expect anyone to accommodate people with such brutal view of others' lives? Good that we realise that there is psychological problem with those guys already. It is only an animal will kill at will, rape at will and destroy at will. No right thinking person will do that, that I believe we all agree here. I concur with the reasoning that says we can start from the north or anywhere the policy is welcomed, then with time be extended to other parts. Quite unfortunate that slot can not be mentioned here but my simple definition for RUGA should be a coordinated ranching system established by the government, the term 'coordinated' should be capable of sacking every other fear associated if it is really genuine. |

Yes i will eat cow today in the afternoon, I usually cook rice with it and my people will make profits from it as well, same way u Fulani people will also buy other goods we import, eat it today and sell it and make profits. It's no big deal.
Fulani can do legitimate business inside my father's house, I welcome that, but they have to rent my land for it just like i rent land in the north to do business, FG won't use state funds to provide my land for Fulani Herdsmen, that is an abomination.
Fulani should acquire land just like every other tribe in nigeria. I appreciate the fact that u understand my points very well but addressing me as a herdsman is a point of concern to me. Anyway, thank God you realise that all Nigerians own nigeria and that is also supposed to be affirmes without boundaries in as much there is no trespass. Now two options; 1, govt should establish a well coordinated ranching system or 2, they should create an enabling environment or serene atmosphere for the herdsman to do their legitimate business. But sad, that your people detest any of the given and valid options. The reason we are still having this issues. |

Almajiris lifestyle is 100% better than theirs. Should we leave them to this sad fate or we do something in our own capacity? If we do, Mother Nature will bless us and if we ignore, we will continue to live with the terror that follows the abandonment. The riches are taking advantage of their unfortunate innocence, govt is trying to fix the problem in their own low capacity, myopic victims (Nigerians) are wailing. Is it not better to bring those kids out of the Bush and tell them that kids don't follow animals in the bush for a living in America? RUGA, either favorable to any region or not, if it can bring those kids out of Bush and offer them a good life, there would be no herdsmen in the bush those wicked people will share guns to, for killing. Education › Re: Chidozie Ojobor, A first Class graduate of UNN, makes waves At the global scene by Boyooosa(m): 8:09am On Jul 20, 2019 |
VisibleDreamz: Growing up in Nigeria, one of Chidozie Ojobor’s most visceral memories was the death of his older sister, Ginika, who died of typhoid fever in 1999.
“Her death caused me to want to understand what typhoid meant, the organism that caused the disease, how it was disseminated and so on,” says Ojobor, who would go on to study microbiology at the University of Nigeria.
His curiosity about infectious diseases became a passion, and his master’s education led to the study of phage therapy – using viruses to treat bacteria.
In particular, he uses “tailocins” – built from parts of viruses – to defeat the bugs.
“Thinking that my sister may have been infected by a resistant strain that wouldn't bow to antibiotics that were administered to her got me more interested in phage therapy,” says Ojobor, a PhD candidate in the lab of Alan Davidson, a professor of molecular genetics in the Faculty of Medicine.
Ojobor set out to understand the molecular processes of disease, with an interest in diagnosis and how diseases metabolize in the body.
His drive to combat infectious disease and, subsequently, superbugs, got the attention of MPOWER Financing, a Washington, D.C.-based company that offers loans to international students. Ojobor was named one of four winners of their Global Citizen scholarship this past spring.
He is the first Canadian university student to win the scholarship. He was picked by MPOWER staff out of 1,121 eligible applications – which they cite as a record number of applicants.
The $5,000 scholarships were awarded on the strength of applicants' essay submissions. Ojobor’s submission identified the need to address the threat of superbugs.
“Antibiotic-resistant bacteria, if left unchecked, would cause 10 million deaths yearly, worldwide, by 2050 [according to a CDC report]. So, there is great need to search for alternatives to the conventional antibiotics,” he wrote. “In the last 3 years of my PhD in Canada, I have identified novel bacteria-killing entities, called tailocins, which I have successfully used to kill resistant bacteria, in the laboratory. Interestingly, in any case that the bacteria then develop resistance, I can genetically engineer the tailocins to overpower the resistant superbugs.”
With tailocins, Ojobor has been able to kill antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the lab. Ojobor’s hope is that he can genetically engineer them to overpower superbugs as cases arise – with treatments in the form of pills and other therapies.
“That, for me, is a high point of the research – that we are able to keep up with that [antibiotic] resistance,” says Ojobor, who joined Davidson’s lab in 2015. “The potential for the research is great and is, for me, really interesting.”
Davidson is full of praise for Ojobor, who he says is "a higly appreciated member of our group.
“Chidozie is a very motivated student with a strong drive to make a difference with his research. He is making important discoveries,” says Davidson, whose lab focuses on antibiotic-resistant bacteria and phage therapies. “He also is a wonderfully warm and engaging person.”
Ojobor is thankful to be named a scholarship winner. He is also grateful for his professor, who has been “super supportive” since he arrived at U of T.
“I think about him as that person who is pivotal to my success,” says Ojobor. “He’s led me in the right direction. We’ve had a great relationship.”
As Ojobor’s education nears its end next year, he is thinking about what to do next with his research. He is leaning towards a public health focus, applying his work to developing countries like Nigeria. He is also considering starting a company “to see how we can take what we are already doing now in the lab and take it to the next level.”
Ojobor is happy to be funnelling his passion into something about which his sister would be proud.
“I feel great and encouraged that I am contributing to this field and, one day, [will] prevent many young and promising Ginikas from dying from resistantfrom dying from resistant bacteria.”
SOURCE: https://www.utoronto.ca/news/u-t-phd-student-wins-global-scholarship-combating-antibiotic-resistant-superbugs Sad that NAFDAC will not consider his achievements before using years to register his products.
