First, in it's initial run, most Spainards weren't even aware of it's existence, it was only after Netflix acquired it in 2017 that the popularity soared.

Secondly, Antena no longer owns the right to air the show. Netflix has the exclusive right presently.

It's not popular in Western, Northern and Eastern Europe.

It's not popular in Asia and Oceania.

It's not popular in North, Central America and the Caribbean.

In fact, the only places Money Heist has massive following are North and Central Africa, Mediterranean Europe (Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Italy), Middle East, and South America (excluding Chile and Guyana).

Money Heist is very popular but only in these regions.

In my opinion, the unnecessary critique of Money Heist is unnecessary. It's also shameful that some persons condescendingly describe it as "telenovela" in a bid to shame fans of the show.

First, the series doesn't fit the definition of a telenovela safe it being a Spanish production. A telenovela by definition means:

"Telenovela, Latin American serial drama similar to a soap opera in plot development but having a broader audience and airing during prime time rather than daytime. Telenovelas are characterized by a continuing melodramatic story line and a permanent cast.".

You've unwittingly described Money Heist to a T.

A BBC review called it a telenovela with guns, another BBC review called it 60% telenovela, 40% thriller.

I agree with both reviews.

Also, no one is shaming anyone. Telenovelas are entertaining.

Money Heist is a telenovela so it's natural for it to be a huge deal in telenovela loving latin stratosphere of mediterranean Europe and Latin America.

Also, Turks and Middle Eastern countries are also huge telenovela lovers, therefore, it's not far fetched for Money Heist to become a massive hit in that region.

If we're talking about episodes, I'm pretty sure Breaking Bad "Ozymandias" episode still ranks as the best episode in a drama series ever produced.

But we're not talking about episodes, are we? We're talking about how both shows match up against each other as a whole, and it's 8-0 in favor of Breaking Bad last time I checked.
