I went back today and confronted the officer that what he gave me is fake without BIOMETRICS, he took me to the Assistant Commissioner who explained that the capture and biometric stuff was bringing various issues and the IGP has directed that this be issued and a communication would be sent before end of next week. He gave me his number if I am disturbed to call him.

The attached is what my 10k and 2k at the gate bought.
This is definitely fake. It's amazing that you deliberately decided to become a victim of fake tinted glass permit with all the information & sensitization on this forum regarding the process for tinted glass permit. Part of the reason share experiences is to educate other intending users of such service and equip them with firsthand information so they can be better guided when applying for such services.

For sure, police officers at the various check points will happily prey & feed on you. No two ways about it. By the time you call the number given to you by those who extorted you, the number will be unavailable.

Giving the porous nature of permit issuance and the multiplication of signatures by the police and in order to avoid the proliferation of signatures on the tinted glass permit the NPF high command decided to centralize the process as well as the signature (emphasis mine). The permit is signed by the CP FEDOPS for the IGP & no other officer is allowed to co-sign it.

In your best interest, start a new process of obtaining the tint permit with the right channel already detailed herein & follow through to the end.

Just my thought.

One or more of the tyre pressure monitor sensors is faulty and would need to be replaced before you can reset the indicator on the instrument cluster.

Spot on @OP especially point 1 of the advantages. The dealers are not desperate to sale. They just tell u their price and walk away, no coarsing, preaching or overzealous nature of the Nigerian sellers.

However, they are usually dishonest about the state of the cars. Hence, it''s absolutely imperative to run a vehicle history report (VHR ) prior to making payment for any car.

Paying for Nigeria Custom Duty is a simple process but the NCS in conivance with agents have made it to appear a difficult process in order to extort buyers.

Once buyers can get valuation and walk into any bank and make payment themselves, the myth and difficulties associated with duty payment would have been debunked.

If you want to go the original way, it is free
You at part of a set of people giving Nigeria a bad image. Tint permit is free and should not be paid for. It's usually obtained within 2 -3 working days depending on your state and traffic at your prefered police command.

For some days now I have been going to Awka Area Command for my tinted permit. The officer in charge told us that the processing cost is N5000 with an additional recharge card of N1000 to check the authenticity of the car registration details online.

But the police that stops us on the road said it is free and most people are saying it is free.

Now Awka does a minimum 30 cars every day. In fact the first 30 persons are attended to and the rest will be told to go till the next day. Now people come as a early as 5,6,6:30am to book a space.

So N1000 recharge card by 30 is N30,000.00 plus N5000 cash payment which is N150,000.00. So they make a minimum of N180,000.00 daily.

If they do it from Monday till Friday it means they generate unaccounted N3.6Million monthly. And with the rush this is just possible.

Please for those in Nairaland that are going for the tinted permit or have gone, We will like to know the cost in your area so we can compare and contrast. We will also like to know the exact conditions put in place for the Tinted Permit Administration.

Thanks.
Tinted glass permit is absolutely free. All you need to do is to make the required application at their website and upload your vehicle license and proof of ownership ensuring that your policy no is valid online with FRSC.

Get your print out and proceed to any police command. There are some phone numbers listed on their website for complaints, you can call any of those number to lodge a complain.

Beware, those asking you for money may issue you with fake permit. Approval is also down online.

Don't just sit and complain, be proactive in your approach.

I did mine in Abuja.

You were just an easy prey, he fed on your ignorance. You need no police report to change car colour. If it were the engine you changed, a police report would be needed. Next time, stand your ground & don't easily give in to intimidation.

I am experiencing same situation with my nissan primera 1998 model, changed the water pump but still experiencing coolant drop in level every other weekend. Is this normal cos my passat hardly ever gets a refill in months
Check your radiator cover to ensure it's still good. Also inspect all water hoses. Leakage could be internal or external. If you are unable to locate it, find a competent mechanic to perform pressure test to determine the kind of leakage & the specific location.

Good day guys,
I noticed that the coolant reservoir of my car (honda accord 98) is at MIN level yet it's always full at the radiator. Now, iv checked for leaks the much I can but can't notice any.
My question is- should I just refill the reservoir with a new coolant, or o a total flush, or is there a reason(negative) for the low coolant in the reservoir?
Thanks for your anticipated contributions
Your water pump gasket is probably warped. Carefully inspect that area, you will see the leakage. Sometimes, these leakages are not immediately obvious but with a detailed attention, you are likely to spot them.

Hmmn... True talk
Just can't bring myself to sell a car I got not up to 4 weeks
I don't think you realise the implication of keeping that for a long time. That Altima engine is prone to all manner of faults. In 2012, I Wanted to buy one but after an extensive online research, I ditched that plan. It feels great to drive but sooner or later you either dump it in a mechanic's workshop or it creates a very big hole in your pocket.

It's unimaginable to contemplate selling a car of less than 4 weeks old but sometimes, it's better to count your loss and move on than have a big hole in your pocket except you've got a deep pocket.

Prior to buying any car next time, do a good research, consult those who use the same car & most of all, there are specific online fora for each model of cars from where you could get objective reviews of first hand experience.
Car TalkRe: Are The Sins Of MDX Many? by bravolad(m): 10:01am On Aug 06, 2016
sooperrescue:
There are many cars that will not tolerate regular unleaded fuel, Acura is one of them. The first issue is the gear box and it's the major issue with the mdx. The difference between the Acura and the Honda pilot is the fuel. Same engine but different fuel requirements. The Acura requires premium fuel only. The Lexus350 is a new entrant to our auto market but what we hear from the owners of rx 300 and 330 is not encouraging, black smoke, poor fuel economy and other little issues that the owners can't tell. I once changed the gear box of an Acura mdx 2011 that was bought in cotonou. They added abro atf to top it on their way to Lagos. My advice, be mindful of the oils specified for the car, get good octane booster and enjoy the gadgets and comforts from the mdx.
This information is wrong. I have an RX330 & have used it for almost 2 years, there has not been an issue with it. I have traveled to the eastern part with it twice & Lagos once from Abuja. Perhaps, those who neglect periodic maintenance have problems with their. Fuel economy is relatively decent considering the quality of the fuel imported in Nigeria. If you had said that the 3MZ - FE engine used in the RX330 is prone to sludge; I will agree with your post. However, the sludge builds up when you use the wrong engine oil or use the recommended oil but skip OCI. The same engine is used in 2004/2005 Toyota Sienna which I used for 5 years before selling it in May this year.
AutosRe: The Man Gazzuz by bravolad(m): 10:34am On Aug 05, 2016
omoidunnu:
I don't know why everyone is hailing this Gazuzz guy... what he does is really quite simple. Any mechanic can do it. He goes out to check a car and badmouths it to the intending buyer. Afterall, he would have been paid for the inspection already and has nothing to lose. He had badmouthed two cars I had for sale, I still sold these cars and the users are still thankful to me till tmr. What hurts the most is that he exaggerates the extent of an issue on a car... the only car he approves as good are the ones he sells. As it is, if I pay him to check out the avensis he has for sale, I am sure he will badmouth it. Besides who buys a 1999 avensis converted from manual to auto or who believes a 1999 avensis still has factory ac.

My two cents...
When he's paid for a Prepaid Purchase Inspection, the clients holds him responsible for any issues arising thereafter. There's generally a consensus that if you pay someone for an inspection prior to buying a vehicle, you are making efforts to mitigate the risk of a severe issues with the particular vehicle.

That said, I think he does his job objectively & passionately with the dictates of the requirements of the job. For example, if he chooses to compromise his stance based on perhaps, the seller agreeing to offset whatever the buyer has paid him for inspection. Then, he recommends the vehicle to the buyer in consideration of the agreement with the seller...the buyer will use every available means to castigate him & request a refund - that would grossly damage his reputation.

You need to also agree that most car dealers in Nigeria are unscrupulous, cunning & deceitful, advertising salvage & total loss vehicles as clean tittle, buy and drive etc. Put yourself in the shoes of a competent mechanic who's paid for a PPI. Your guess is as good as mine.

I have also use Mike (lokomike) in Abuja and he gave an honest assessment of a car, would you also suggest he's biased because he did the assignment he's paid for.

I personally inspected a used 2012 Camry in Lagos prior to inviting him to inspect. But I expressed some reservation & told him the symptoms I noticed in the car. Immediately, Gazzuzz told me that the car air conditioner compressor has been altered (converted to manual) which the seller didn't object, and even though Gazzuzz has not seen the car; would You still talk about badmouthing the seller?.

If a car belongs to him, he can assure you (buyer) of the true state of the car & takes responsibility when something goes wrong and not arising from the buyer's carelessness. This is generally how it should work. I personally will be wary about buying a car from any car dealer in Nigeria, hence, the need for a professional assessment. The competence & honesty displayed to this extent is not peculiar to Gazzuzz but all competent technicians and mechanics who worth their onions.

Finally, if you are an honest car dealer, people will appreciate you & pour all manner of accolades to you. Honesty begets integrity, which results to satisfaction.

Prior inspection, the seller told me his last price was 1.1M. After inspection, he called me to say he's ready to do 650K shocked

Why?

The auto wizard Gazzuzz!

Come see list of faults and repairs to be done. Seller thought I was sending just anyhow mechanic who wouldn't be able to tell a lemon from a lime. His trap caught him. Ify jumped and pass.
The price is worth paying for. I used him recently & he proved very reliable & trust worthy.

As a matter of fact, the money you pay for inspection is peanut compared to the harrowing experience you will subject yourself without expertise inspection.

One good thing about his opinion is; it's unbiased & objective.

And you say you be cardoctor. I pity your clients...
Being a cardoctor does not stop him from expressing his views about the build quality of a car. He just gave an honest assessment based perhaps, on the number of issues or problems of the MDX in comparison to RX350 & the other models the OP has been advised to buy.

I think people should learn to give their opinion rather than pick holes where there's none.

For peace of mind, the RX350 has a better build quality and the tendency to abandon a vehicle in the mechanic workshop is actually none existent because of spare parts availability & technical know how. The MDX may have more state-of-the-art gadgets but when the start failing, it's usually a harrowing experience. It's also nowhere near the RX350 in terms of resale value.

Again, it's up to you to decide. Do a bit more reading at car complaints.com & Edmunds.com and make a decision. In making your decision, just remember to consider the peculiarity of use in Nigeria.

Car TalkRe: Before You Buy That Used Car, Look Before You Leap. by bravolad(m): 10:23pm On Jul 24, 2016
Smileberry:
Thank God almighty for a section like this. My previous car was a Toyota Camry 2008 Xle 4 plugs. I fell in love with it the moment i saw it on line in July this year. Everybody say its a good car. The car was being sold in kaduna and i live in abuja. I took an office colleague of mine who seemed to know more about cars to kaduna to inspect and buy the car. Everything seemed okay. Paintwork was like new, leather interior was clean and still looked new, tyres were new, a/c chilling and engine was sweet. I did not hesitate to pay for the car after a little haggling. The sellers in kaduna seemed very honest and told me that that was the best car of its type that i will ever find. i obliged and made a full payment after diving a short distance. (There was fuel scarcity then in kaduna so they refused driving too far from their car selling place).

We got the car registered the following day and drove the car back to abuja with my colleague at the wheel. He told me the car was a good buy and i was happy.

My happiness started slowly coming to an abrupt end when driving home from work one day, i noticed that the sound of the exhaust was slowly growing louder.

The following morning, It struggled to start but after a few kicks it started with the noise from the exhaust now sounding like it had come off. I was so scared it will damage the engine and i immedeiately drove the car to my fathers mechanic. On reaching his workshop, he went underneath the car and saw that the exhaust has broken off where it was welded before. I was curious as why such a new tokunbo car would have a recently welded silenser. I left the car with him because i was already running late for work. He then called me about an hour and half later and told me that the catalyst has been removed from the car exhaust and welded back. I couldnt understand what he was talking about but to replace it eventually cost me N80k. When i called the seller and told him about the issue, he claimed he was not aware of it. I sent him a text that im going to sue him and get the police involved. Since then he has not been answering my calls.

To cut the long story short, i have spent over 300k on this car.
1. New ac compressor with condenser
2. catalysts and silencer
3. Wheel bearings
4. electrician

They also discovered that the car was involved in an accident and was repaired and painted. no wonder the car was looking new. Ac packed up dash board was creaking.
It was a 2007 model and they sold it to me as 2008. Also when i did a check it turned out that the car was LE not Xle and the leather seats were sown here and not factory fitted. Finally there was this irritating rattling noise from the back that nobody was able to detect and repair. I decided to get rid of it at a big loss for what i bought it for. I almost lost my mind because of this incident.

@ cardoctor;
Thanks for this thread.
Im thinking of buying another Camry. maybe a newer model like 2013 and i dont want to make the same mistake again. i Will definitely get in touch with since you do a PPI on any car i find.
Sorry about your loss. It's very disheartening that we have insincere car dealers who engage in all manner of deceit in the name of being smart in business. This is also aided by our weak legal system that does not deal decisively at such offenders even when the evidence is overwhelming & beyond reasonable doubt.

Your best bet in getting a clean car is to import directly from the USA or going the Cotonou route. If the later is your decision, you will need to make out time to get what you want. Go with a trusted person, run a vin report prior to paying for any car.

It may be difficult to get what you want in Lagos & more so, those dealers can't be trusted. They do all manner of shady deals just to make huge profit.

These things thrieves because we give credence to them by respecting people who have money rather than integrity, not minding how the money came about. Very unfortunate, I must say.
