Car Talk / Re: CEL On My Camry, Error Codes Scanned. Please Advise. by bravolad(m): 8:30am On Jan 06, 2018 |
mayor2013: @Mayor2013, I replaced the cat & 02 sensor on my sienna with toks and used it for over 3 years before selling & codes never came back. Replaced my Camry cat last year with toks & it's still going strong. Finally, I replaced my RX330 02 sensor last year & it's been great. Primarily, the quality of our fuel impact these items. I think that 90% of those using 2008 and above vehicles will have their CEL on. |

mayor2013: Personally, I use the recommended engine oil & spark plugs for my cars. So what could have damaged my cat & 02 sensor? |
Car Talk / Re: CEL On My Camry, Error Codes Scanned. Please Advise. by bravolad(m): 7:42am On Jan 05, 2018 |
SerPounce: Replacing the cat will take care of the P0420. Usually, a good Toks should solve the problem. Remember if you don't change the cat, u may have an engine failure in the long run. As for the 02 sensor, get a Toks with guarantee & you have the problem solved. I have used Toks 02 sensor in the last 6 years in different cars & never have the CEL back. The fuel imported in this country is terribly poor & low quality. |

Car Talk / Re: Don't Bother Getting A Total Card To Escape The Fuel Queues by bravolad(m): 9:24pm On Dec 24, 2017 |
Piyke: Amazingly, the pump was at 00 before he started serving me. While I was haggling over the price, those behind me were hounding me over time wasting. I paid in annoyance & drove off. My wife has also has a similar experience & swore never to buy from them again. Several other people have also complained to my hearing about them. I think it's some kind of metre adjustment. It's consistent with most of their stations. 1 Like |

GAZZUZZ: My dear, it was the same questions I asked the pump attendant & the surprising thing is that the tank capacity is 75 litres. I was extremely angry & disappointed but as I said, I have no choice under the current scarcity. But for the scarcity, I don't buy fuel from Total. 1 Like |

Piyke: Wow! That's a poor customer service then. Perhaps, they truly are not what they preach. But priority should be given to these customers. It also goes to show the terribly poor customer service inherent in our system. Personally, I don't buy fuel at Total because they are fraudulent. The only station I have spent 11,200 to fill up Toyota camry tank. 2 Likes |

Car Talk / Re: Wrong Engine Oil Spec Epidemic. by bravolad(m): 5:08am On Dec 24, 2017 |
pannyman: This is particularly true of most Nigerian car owners; some are ignorant of the right spec of oil to use due in part to their inability to read car manuals for reason I truly can't comprehend while some are fully aware but feel that it's an expensive venture to use the right engine oil. Such owners are equally unaware of the nagetive effect of such oil in the engines. I have personally seen owners of Range Rover, Kia Optima, Crosstour, Venza, Highlander & benz use this engine oil. The use of wrong oil weight & spec has become a common practice in Nigeria & this is because the regulating agencies of government has failed in their statutory duties. Hence, the result is a proliferation of substandard & fake products (oil). Surprisingly, even dealership workshops use the dreaded 20w-50 as a one cap fits all approach. And this is after they must have charged the customer for a synthetic engine oil. 2 Likes |

Piyke: Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. I do also guess you got such a response from the miscreants who also pose as their staff just to make to collect money from motorists who are not in line in other to let them in. Though the do this in collaboration with the Total staff. I don't think Total staff will talk to you like that. Personally, I don't have the Total card but I have seen them several times asking customers with their cards to queue up through the exit gate at least in Abuja. Fortunately, I have bought fuel from this station a couple of time in the last 2 days even with the very long stretch of queues without much hastle & that's if you know how to go about it, even though their meter is not accurate, but again, there's scarcity and who cares...? You may need to report to the station manager to see if they can offer some kind of compensation to you. 1 Like |

obitee69: Bruh, there's absolutely no need for this insult. You could make your points without it. More so, @Chukel was extremely correct in his observations. You posted your car for sale with a different moniker & you were discovered. It's also suspicious. It's your car & choice to sell at anytime, however, I remember when you wanted to buy the Infiniti & a lot of people warned you but that's a discussion for another day. Your reason to sell could be anything but your use of different moniker & subsequent deleting of the thread the moment you were discovered was suspicious. This single action also puts a question mark on your integrity. Finally, it shows a lot of maturity to argue your points rather than attack & insult people. Cheers. 6 Likes |

Car Talk / Re: Please What Is The Difference In LE,XLE,HYBRID,LIMITED,SPORT E.t C by bravolad(m): 5:22am On Dec 22, 2017 |
elshanAutos: Epic response. As some one earlier, they are trim levels. The first is CE which means Base Edition usually with fabric seats and no alloy wheels. LE = Luxury Edition which may come with leather seat, navigation & other features of the the luxury edition. It can also come with alloy wheels etc. XLE = Extra Luxury Edition; this usually come with most factory features of a particular manufacturer. It may be leather of fabric seats with additional option's for buyers to choose from. Limited Edition; It is also Extra Luxury Edition. This comes standard with Leader seat plus all other features as standard in a particular model with the exception of navigation screen which is optional. Hybrid; It differs from the rest. A hybrid car is powered by more than one source of power such as inverters & electricity and also has an internal combustion engine with electric motors powered by batteries. It's a new technology in automobile manufacturering to save fuel, reduce emission and recharge itself without being plug into electricity. 2 Likes |

thebigkendo: This is absolutely wrong. This oil quality degrades at a sustained high speed thereby offering less lubrication to the engine and cause a huge amount of sludge deposit. The long time effect is a grudually weakened engine. 1 Like |
Car Talk / Re: Why The Drastic Drop In Price Of Honda Accord 2008-2010 by bravolad(m): 8:16am On Dec 19, 2017 |
segzyndpep: The onus of decision is with the buyer, which is often considered with regard to his/her budget. Most buyers also set out with a particular car in mind without recourse to the prevail price at the time knowing very well that the particular model is well outside their reach. Hence, they would opt for the cheap option and ignorant of the level of abuse car has been subjected to. Within few weeks of purchase, all manner of mechanic & electrical problems would begin to surface. Of course, next is to rush it off to another unsuspecting buyer who also likes to buy cheap. It's important to note a few things before buying a car: 1. What is the prevail price of the car from the destination country? 2. Consider the prevailing local price of a used one 3. How much is the duty payable for such a car in Nigeria? With these considerations, do you think after 3 years or so of usage with proper maintenance, an owner will give away his/her car for just peanut? There's always a reason for the cheap or low prices you see around. Most times, the real problems with the cars are concealed even from experienced mechanics. There are very few occasions when a car owner may need money urgently & would gladly give out his/her car at a ridiculously lower price from the market value but these situations are rare to come by. If you maintain your car properly, I bet you won't just sell it at just any price irrespective of the years of usage. 3 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: Pls I Need Advice On Gs350 2006-08 by bravolad(m): 9:19pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
mikkyd: It's a tight call though but ES350 won't be a bad option but you are likely to face the same faith as the gs350. Any particular reason you don't want the camry and/or Accord? Both are good and are close substitute and would serve you better without breaking the banks. I can understand the desire to stand out of the pack but you need to consider the peculiarity of our society in terms of parts avalaibility, technical know how and your finances. Again, Infiniti M35 would be another good option, however, fuel consumption and spare parts are at the opposing side of your choice. Given the fragility of Nissan engines and gear box, I would honestly advise against it. You can also look at Kia optima, in which case u have technical support & parts can be sourced locally. Perhaps you could expand a bit more on what you are looking at in a car so that other members of the forum can offer some hands as well. |
Car Talk / Re: Pls I Need Advice On Gs350 2006-08 by bravolad(m): 7:10pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
Well, I think what @Readonee35l means is that the engine fitted to the GS350 is similar to the one in Camry, which also implies that if the @op can maintain a Camry then, he can keep the GS350 long term as well. Perhaps, his choice of words "almost same" invoked the anger in @Mayor2013 & hoping that settles the dust. Definitely, as I pointed out earlier, the fuel consumption will be higher than what obtains in the Camry. I think the major problem @op will have with the car is misfire arising from the poor quality of fuel here. That said, he can also compliment the fuel with octane booster each time he refuels, which is an additional cost. Spare parts will be scarce & will equally come at a premium cost as spare part dealers will deliberately inflate prices. Competent technicians or garages will constantly fleece you as the car luxury. |
Car Talk / Re: Between Camry Spider And Honda Evil Spirit by bravolad(m): 1:21pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
obitee69: You must be mistaken to think Toyota OEM parts are cheap. 2010/2011 toyota Camry front briscoe brake pad is 30k. Genuine Toyota spare parts are expensive. @op the two cars are direct competitors. From user experience and online reviews, there's so much of a gap in terms of usage. The Camry has a better & rugged engine that can tolerate some level of abuse. The Accord has a better dash fascia with a superior and admirable quality material. The seat in the Honda accord slacks and sags making sitting very uncomfortable especially for a long trip. As the saying goes "different strokes for different folks"; you may not go bad with either of the cars. However, with the deplorable state of roads all over the place, the Camry seems better suited to our roads than the fragile Accord. The cost of spare parts will be essentially the same if you are buying genuine OEM as with fuel consumption in comparison to the same number of cylinders. Besides, the Camry has a better tolerant treshold for body, engine & electricals especially when visiting a roady. While still contemplating on which to buy, it would be wise to test drive both cars & make an informed decision. Just so you know, obtain a vin report of anyone you choose to purchase. 12 Likes |

chucksbadt: I don't understand why you seek online advise because it seems you have made up your mind not to renew it. But just to remind you that the men in uniform will ONLY take your 1k or the lower denominations you have where your documents including the DL are intact. In case you are not aware, if you mistakenly knock someone down or get involved in an accident & someone dies as a result, it's manslaughter. Remember it's a proposition before you bring in some religious sentiments. In addition, your car could be impounded if you are caught driving with an expired DL and additional sanctions meted out to you for the offence. It's almost always to your advantage to renew your DL as this gives you some level of courage when driving. Good luck with your choice. 1 Like |

Readonee35L: It's not thirsty as you said but u know fuel consumption is defined relative to the owner's perception. But for a buyer to be concerned about its fuel consumption is an indication he expects a fuel consumption proportional to perhaps, a corolla. More so, the Camry V6 has a slightly better mpg. So I bet he will struggle with it. Remember it requires a premium fuel for optimum performance. |
Car Talk / Re: I Need Review From Experienced User In Naija On Honda CRV 2003 - 2005 Model by bravolad(m): 11:53am On Dec 16, 2017 |
calculation: I think the Honda CRV is reliable & with the right maintenance culture, you will have less issues to deal with. Ensure you don’t buy an abused CUV, hence engage a competent mechanic to carry out a PPI for you & get a vin report for peace of mind. You vehicle is as good as you keep it. Concerning the k-leg issue you talked about, it’s actually a faulty rear shocks & sometimes faulty hubs that cause that. It’s not part of the design of any of the vehicles mentioned. Rather a careless and poor maintenance habit of the owners. Usually, a bent shock Leaves a vehicle with such a shape. While attempting to purchase a car, will you honestly buy one with that shape in place? These things stem from poor maintenance habit of owners & incompetent mechanics who assume that the car is designed that way. Why is it that these cars are used in their pristine conditions in Europe, America & Asia but as soon as they get into Nigeria they loose these qualities? Some people don’t even wash their cars let alone buying the right spare parts for their cars & they are quick to blame manufacturers for the woes they put the cars. @OP, buy the vehicle but pay close attention to its needs & it will serve you. 5 Likes |

mikkyd: Fuel economy should be the least of your worries when buying a car with 3.5l engine. You should be concerned about the availability of spare parts and they won't come cheap. However, it's a great car with good performance but you will struggle with the poor quality of our fuel. 3 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: How Many Years Driving Experience Do I Need To Drive From Abuja To Ibadan by bravolad(m): 9:36am On Dec 09, 2017 |
The poster above me has succinctly put out some of the considerations. However, I will add that people have different threshold of of endurance & reaction. Long haul drive requires a lot of patience. This is also when your adrenaline will need to be on the lowest. Do not overtake when u can't see the road ahead of you. Don't panic, maintain a moderate speed of 100km/h. Resist any urge to go above this speed. What's required is a good and firm control of the steering wheel, road awareness & not necessarily years of driving. Have a passenger in the front seat probably someone who has driven to such a distance. Ensure your car is in top shape for a trip. Get a enough sleep on the penultimate night of your travel. Leave early but not very early, 5.30am is a good time. Eat light to stay focused. Avoid alcohol by all means. Finally, it's not a big deal driving such a distance, the only difference is that it's your first time. Over time, it becomes normal & part of you. 4 Likes |

Nweze1986: Wow! Wonders will never end... So paying civil servants their earned monthly salary & bonuses has become an achievement for which a Governor is now appraised? This reasoning weird & annoying. Is he paying it with his personal money? The Paris Club Fund was specifically set aside by FG for this purpose. What's the need for celebration? It's a loan to be repaid. No wonder Nigeria is left in the doldrums of underdevelopment...when you have below mediocres as leaders & followers, this is what you get. I'm appalled this is making a headline. |
